      "Helping the country"? They are helping no one but themselves. Mass immigration since the Howard govt has resulted in a greater share of GDP going to capital, at the expense of labour.

    • @leewangxow
      @leewangxow 10 месяцев назад +5

      If overseas-trained nurses could work in Australia, then you'd have solved your shortage issue ages back! Nope, overseas-trained nurses and doctors
      however, qualified or trained in some of the best medical colleges aren't permitted to ply their profession here (unless they are from Canada or the US or the UK I think); it's because your system doesn't allow it; and of course
      for obvious reasons which is pretty much respected (else you'd never know what you'd get for such a sensitive sector); that's why you have qualified nurses from South Asia, spending their life's savings to undertake their
      nursing courses all over again here in Australia in a bid for permanent residency and to of course become part of the
      workforce. It's a huge sacrifice.
      In any case, letting in such a number (upwards of 600K) in just a year is preposterous! I am a doctoral student here; way past your so-called "productive or economic threshold" age,
      and I hold no interest in continuing here after my studies; I just want to give my kids a nice experience here - enjoying Australia, getting to experience
      Western schooling for at least 3-4 years, get me that PhD - a lifelong aspiration; and then it's back home; but with all these fallouts (the rising cost of living and the rentals), it's making our experience here a tad unsavory.
      But it will be interesting to see how things pan out as not everyone seems to be aware that international students (at least the ones who attend proper unis here) pay in a year what an average Australian
      would ever spend in their entire educational life; they and largely their spouses form an integral part of the workforce here, with huge tax contribution, a substantial part of which amongst others
      go into funding Aussie retirees! International students who do their postgraduate degrees in universities here including myself often wonder where are the actual Aussie students? Are they not
      into studying, or are they busy robbing stores, car-jacking, invading homes, playing fisticuffs at school, and engaging in hide-n-seek with the rather funny justice system here??

Its preposterous, especially since the Indian rupee is significantly of lesser value compared to AUD. I work 7 days a week and still is struggling to pay rent, bills, fees and survive. So before jumping into a conclusion like that, it is the high fees imposed on us by the Aussie unis that force us to indulge in labour, which unfortunately makes it harder for Aussies. The situation sucks for both us and Aussies. But it is what it is. Good day.
