- The federal government has announced major changes to migration - mostly centred on tightening up visa conditions for international students and temporary migrant workers. It's the next stage of an overhaul designed to put the emphasis back on permanent migration within a smaller overall program.
It comes as support for migration - and the government - is under pressure as a result of national housing shortages. Emphasising the point, the government also announced a tripling of fees for foreign investors wanting to buy property in Australia.
Laura Tingle spoke to Home Affairs Minister Clare O'Neil about the migration review.

Lofy goals, will have to see how that pans out.
Who dares wins
This Govt have created a system to get many buggers through big businesses while throwing out cream of talents.
Thats why, big project costs are doubling & tripling for last 2 years.
She gets so much hate but what she is saying is true they’re just picking up off what was left off the previous party
It doesn't mean labor can do the same or even increase immigration like they have. They should do the right thing and stop blaming others.
Pass the buck, never accept responsibility. These are the tenents of true leadership.
Our politicians and ruling classes on all sides of politics are also landlords and real estate investors so apart from lip service nothing serious will be done to address housing affordibility.
Bring it to close to a halt and grow what we got, not bring destruction
so WHO ARE THESE GHOST COLLEGES?
ABc’s is Labor PR machine. Soft interview. Shame on you Laura.
What? in Australia you only have ABC & the Guardian as bipartisan the other 80% is so far up the Liberals & Nationals butt that they know what they going to say before they do.
Isn't the ABC the pr machine of whichever party is in power federally?
OK, armchair journalist. What questions were not asked?
