The school systemwas created back when the industrail industry was booming and needed more workers. Thats why kids sit in single file lines (mimicking working in a single file factory line) have scheduled lunches and breaks and receive grades the way they do. I have a lot of respect for my old high school's principal. He was only an AP when I was there. He actually graduated from that school himself about a decade before I did. Then he went off to college and got teaching jobs wherever he could. He always wanted to come back to his old high school, though, and now he runs the place, and he does a fine job of it.
