As I watched your video I cringed to think about the comment section. So many keyboard fabricators foaming their opinions about how you did this wrong or change that or you are killing baby seals with the smoke or it's not safe, blah blah wine blah. I'm surprised by moderate level of intelligence here though. You built this. From scratch. In your own shop, With your own hands, using your own brain. It's wonderful and it's something that 99.9% of the trolls on RUclips could NEVER accomplish. Very well done sir.
+dozer1642 But couldn't it run 95% less smoke if the engine was simply tuned properly? The only time they do that is when they are spraying in way too much fuel to burn completely. Maybe he needs it to have enough power I guess. He should put on a bigger turbo.
+sirgallium my best guess (from a 4:54 minute clip) as to why the engine smokes the way it does is merely because its operating under heavy load all of the time. Fabricating something like this isn't a science. It's art. The fact that the engine chosen makes the darn thing go down the street at a moderate pace is a stunning success. It smokes a hell of a lot less than the ten dodge trucks with the 8" stacks that the high school kids in my town cranked up the pumps on just to be obnoxious. It's one man and his unique creation. God bless him.
+dozer1642 The black smoke may look cool, but is a sign of incomplete combustion... so the engine doesn't run properly, at least not in this video. Seems like it's still a work in progress though.
+sirgallium ...Or smaller turbos? Maybe it's too low engine rpm so they don't spool up to their intended rpm. (I have no idea if this model of turbo is considered "small", "medium" or "large"... He also has two of them, perhaps going down to one would do the trick? (Just brainstorming a little.)
I always do!!! I love the looks and style! but by time you get to a bike show you'll have to stop for some Cancer treatments, constant diesel exhaust exposure is so bad there's parts of Europe where they control which days u can drive into certain cities (since all cars are diesel in some places) and the cancer rate is increasing.
he deffinitly needs a better pump for the hydrostatic drive so he can get more speed and takeoff. and he needs to fix the excessive smoking habit of the engine. but other then that, its one absolutely awesome bike, i love it.
First, awesome job! Really outside the box thinking. Second, I own a pre-emissions diesel truck with a tuner so I'm no stranger to rolling coal but it usually clears up once the turbo spools. I'm not an expert on diesels & turbos but I think you might have it over-turbo'd. If you cut it back to a single, or found 2 really tiny turbos, you might clean it up a bit. Roll all the coal you want at the stop light but at running speed, you should be clear(ish). Hell, old tractors didn't smoke that much under load and they did a lot more work than your asking this engine to do. Don't take me wrong, not bashing it or complaining about environment, blah blah blah. Only offering up a suggestion.
I can't imagine how great you smell after riding this awesome beast. That being said. It's very impressive. You should be proud of the engineering & ingenuity you put into making this bike.
this is a bad ass bike, the engineering behind building this bike is amazing, it's amazing how many people are worried about how much smoke comes out of it, like because of this bike the earth is going to die, first off I doubt you ride this every day, if you do the lil bit of smoke is a hell of a lot less than one big rig crossing the country let alone just going across town, they can't think of any legitimate thing to complain about with the bike so they bitch about the smoke which is something that can be fixed, still a bad ass bike
Smoke is not cool and going to get you ticketed eventually. Same with pick ups they think the smoke is cool but it it looks stupid. I drove a tractor trailer for 40 years and you guys that love smoke just look like a bunch of wannabes
Interesting setup with "clutch" and "brake", I like it! BTW since it is single speed have you thought about adding a 2nd speed by dropping to one wheel drive by cutting flow to front wheel while allowing it to recirculate so that all the flow would go to the rear doubling the speed? The smoke is WAY excessive, it looks like it interfers with driving...
+Choppertown yep a solid tune to get the smoke down an then it will be pretty cool. my only concern is the air ride system. if air pressure is lost while above 20 mph, isn't the frame going to drop and said rider is going to go flying with possible injury or death? air ride bikes don't lay on the ground because of this.
+Choppertown What about some kind of a safety catch, I'm thinking a dog, like used on hoists, that would kick out, if you lost air. Like what would happen if a truck using air brakes lost it's air, the brakes would apply. Then the only issue is how do you keep the bike from falling over when you stop. For the smoke issue. Run straight biodiesel made from recycled cooking oil, and then the issue would become walking around smelling like a french fry. lol. But what about two pipes side by side out to the back, cover them with heat shield and make them look like the rear bombers guns. Cool bike though.
+mibars yeah love it really steam punk look, but wouldnt it be better if he makes the exhaust longer to the back side? that way the smoke wont bother the rider himself
Gotcha, but still ... what's a couple more pounds so you can at least breathe? Pretty cool how you got all that working together but I would want to enjoy the ride without having the need for a gas mask, lol.
+Gara Von Hoiwkenzoiber awww dude cmon that's one of the coolest parts! xD gives it sort of a steam punky rat rod type of feel for sure. id wear a mask and some aviation goggles so when you take them off they leave outlines from the soot xD hahaha. definitely 007 smoke screen mode! lmao
smh..... he did that on purpose...... its a twin turbo diesel its supposed to amoke that's exactly why he did it x) its supposed to be nasty.... what do you want it to be like a prius? xD im sure he did it to grab attention its not a daily driver so no harm no fowl.
Insane amount of thinking and creativity in this build. Truly amazing to look at. Only thing I dislike is that the exhaust is wrapping around his legs. Ride that thing anywhere and you'll pull up covered in exhaust gases and smelling like diesel.
That thing is Mad Max insane! Keep tweaking it, tune the smoke out or at least pipe it behind the rider. How the hell does the steering work? Watched the video a few times but can't see it.... Way cool!
+Kaleb DeGroot well then, mind warming bruh. if I'm stuck in the traffic right behind this bike I'd rather drive a fkin civic than riding my future motorbike

From a Gearhead point of view, I see art, its not meant to go fast or look good from every point of view, if you don't like it dont comment, the guy who made it likes it, what else matters.
The amount of smoke on this is ridiculous. enought that I can see you have an exhaust leak at the turbo. Does it even develop boost with that little displacement and twin turbos?
Ok… There are so many all of a sudden turbo experts and ripping on this for blowing smoke balls. I am pretty sure he is completely aware of whats going on. This is an insanely well built, thought out. And Extremely badass execution . . .. Bravo
+ChiefJustice Middleton The clean air act will have you red tagged in some states. That means that you cant drive it as its mass pollution. Even diesels in some citys now have smog and have to meat EPA rules. Just waiting for your next ticket.. .. any time now ..
+Lankster Price You do know those rules are for manufacturing and new vehicles right? Or you gonna say that all pre 1975 vehicles are illegal to register and drive?
The engineering that went into the planning and building of this machine is pretty amazing. Looks like quality to me. I'm thinking that left leg would start to get hot on a long trip, might consider extending that baby and adding a heat shield. But I got to love this thing, it really is bad ass.
depends on where you live but nation wide (USA) for 2014, 38.8% coal, 27.4% natural gas, 19.5% nuclear and 13.2% renewable (wind, solar, water, wood, biomass, geothermal)
China called, couldn't understand much of what they were saying. Something about knowing nothing about choking, as I could gather through the coughing. Diesel powers your world, it allows you to complain about these things. Semis haul freight all over the world, they do it because they can generate the power, as gasoline can't. Trains can move 12,000 tons of freight, namely the coal that is used to power your home, and everything in it. Container ships carrying goods from around the world can haul more than twice that of the trains. Diesel propels them across the miles of ocean. So, you want to hate on diesel? You better take a close look at the world you're sitting in. Your computer's hardware, your lights, electricity, clothing, toys, the very chair you sit on... So much of what you have now, is thanks in some part to diesel.
+Nuggat But this doesn't't look like it has a catalytic converter. The smoke it shots out is just completely black and it looks like a hazard to everyone! This guy has incomplete combustion occurring in his engine so he's shooting out carbon, hence the blackness and Carbon Monoxide! I fucking hope he's got a catalytic converter in there!
DIESELS ROLL COAL, DUMBASS. IF IT DIDNT POUR BLACK SMOKE WHEN HES GETTING ON THE GAS, SOMETHING WOULD BE WRONG. . these friggin kids and their "diesel exhaust fluid". ooooooooooo......
Actually those diesel cars or trucks can carry a lot of passengers or goods, so they play a useful role, you can't be so close to not see the difference. But here is just a biker who likes to ride in the same time polluting the nice area with his invention. Don't get ppl wrong, maybe I'm not an expert, the bike looks cool, sounds cool but the smoke is just a terrible con. Inventor made a lot of work but apprently the bike isn't completed. Period.
that's gotta be an unpleasant ride with all that diesel smoke chiefing you out all the way up to your helmet ehhh I'll ride it 4 miles before I can't take the smoke lol other than that a sick ass bike
Beautiful piece of engineering the creator of this fantastic machine has amazing skill and knowledge as well as imagination...big respect...thanks for sharing...we only evolve with minds like these!!
the driver must smell like exhaust , I'm hoping he extends the pipes further behind him, maybe he will create something interesting with the exhaust system
Both black and white smoke mean unburnt fuel. Black smoke means an imbalance of air to fuel but the most common issue is too much fuel (unburnt). Yes I can give it to you that it can be too much air not enough fuel but in most cases its not especially how it was running. The black smoke is full of particulates that are basically large diesel particles that normally would be burned as fuel. White smoke means it as well is not being burnt properly with low engine compression, water in the fuel, fuel pump timing being off a whole slew of things both ways. I was just trying to let you know something but now you're being a keyboard warrior so this is all I'm gonna say you can say whatever you want after this these are the facts search it up anywhere. Also unbeknownst to you since your statement is showing you know nothing about me I also have been around all types of vehicles all my life.
Well to me it's a great work and I admire tenacity of people to create such unusual inventions, but also it's a retarded way to show everyone else, that you don't care about other people. Such a nice area and covered by terrible smoke, just for the individual pleasure.
Coming from a committed environmentalist...that black smoke cloud is just fucking AWESOME.
might wanna extend them ol' exhaust pipes back a little. You're getting a solid 45 carcinogens per gallon.

if a diesel engine works well, does not pull the light gray smoke.
The fuel does not burn well.
sorry for my english haha
build a better one then.
why don't you build a better one bro
volkswagen diesel engine !?
Must be a clean air Vehicle, which is prefered...
I thought I dreamt about this can’t believe it’s real! Looks a proper death trap!
Why is is smoking so bad?...Fuel works better when its being burnt.
exactly!
black smoke is burned fuel. It's over fueling it be white if unburned fuel
You're thinking about a gas engine. This ones Diesel.
+Lone Wolf I've only been around trucks for over 31 years. If you ever seen and smelled unburned diesel fuel you'd know it.
Such a nice area and covered by terrible smoke, just for the individual pleasure.
quit your bitchin and grow some balls. it's just smoke my god!
Agreed.
Do you guys drive gas internal combustion engines?
I wonder for how much can I buy this miracle!! Piece !! Of !! Engineering!!! I'm in love!
Awesome. Looks fearsome. Smoke just makes it look angrier.
I'm not sure why but you may want to let those exhaust pipes go a little bit further back
More smoke than power just do something about it
bike looks amazing! But don't u really give a fuck about polution in the u.s.? i think u should...
Vision and creativity meet the street to form rolling art....nice!
awesome hydraulic drive system! clutch, brakes, park, good job Merica style
