They were stress testing days prior and backstage with success. It developed micro cracks by the time it was brought on stage. The team also built the CT proto in 90 days, so it was a rush job.
Think the original test steel ball they used was huge like size of a tennis ball it probably weighed ~1.2kg. Since then they changed the type of glass as well - good to see the production version is able to take such a high impact without breaking.

You could see in the vertical drop test them cranking down on the horizontal test glass to verify it was seated correctly before the ball drop.
What scientific reason stopped him? They tried it with a lighter base ball . And were afraid 😱 for some reason they cannot explain (superstition. My their the world is a complex place.

No, what happened was they were hitting it with a sledge hammer both before the show and during the show…that weakened the braces for the window leading to it not being able to absorb the force as efficiently and cracking
