  • HR 3247 Bill to Ban Rifle Rated Body Armor Introduced Again
Just like it sounds. They're trying to ban body armor for civilian use once again. Something that is inherently defensive in nature. Here we go!
Body armor is a defensive tool that anyone should be allowed to have access to. Especially those who aren't capable of owning other measures of self defense. And yet, some of our politicians believe that us mere civilians do not need body armor because of the obvious threat we pose I guess? You tell me.
Here is a link to the bill. This is the 3rd time it has been introduced: www.congress.gov/bill/118th-c...
🛡 Premier Body Armor makes innovative body armor products including backpack inserts and gray man concealable armor options. Do you think HR 3427 has a chance? Why do they keep trying to ban something only defensive in nature?

I like the Premier Everyday Armor, but it's still pretty warm. Couple Ts, set of inserts. And another backpack insert. So far the Ts do a good job of keeping the inserts where they might do some good.

Most any legislation always has a chance of passing. I don't think this one is likely to for the reason that it's not something that looks like a priority that the right people are willing to spend political capital on. Bills like these are usually introduced so some politician can hold a press conference and say they are "doing something" about crime or gun violence.
Now, with that said, all that can change in a hurry if there is some mass shooting incident where the gunman uses armor and appears to have prolonged the rampage even a little bit with it. I think that's what got New Yorks's ban passed after years as a perennial bill that got nowhere.
If it's important to you, take the time to write your congress people. Give some intelligent reasons why it shouldn't be banned and don't include crazy rants about how it's time to rise up and water the tree of liberty or anything like that.
The surest way to get a body armor ban passed is to give them the political cover to be able to paint civilian body armor ownership as an extremist or domestic terror thing.

I don't remember that. Chinese proliferation of acceptable-performance rifle-rated armor, yes. Domestic considerations? Oh, no doubt they _thought_ about it, but I'd be interested in hearing more about where they came out and said it openly and on-the-record.
Also. Sig USA has already released a .277 Fury bolt-action rifle and at least plans to make the .277 Fury versions of the MCX Spear available to civilians. As long as the DoD doesn't kill the M7 program, other manufacturers will inevitably start releasing products in that caliber.
As far as its ammo, a high-pressure hybrid-case bonded softpoint load is already on the open civilian market. Granted, that ammo is also _very_ expensive for the time being, but considering the currently limited adoption by the civilian market so far and the fact that Lake City hasn't come close to tooling up for true mass production, that's not a surprise.

Another super informative video. As a former Military and Civilian Law Enforcement personnel, I have never seen an article of body armor, vest or helmet used as a weapon. (Wore it daily as an employee.). It is exactly what it is meant to be, a defense logical wearable article of clothing to aid in preventing an injury. I was highly trained to recognize a threat wearing such equipment. Practiced two shots Centered mass, one to the face (head). Criminals in most states are barred from owning such with severe penalties. (Oregon.)
Next they will do something more invasive of personal defense. (Criminals are known to lock doors. Must remove locks or have locks with universal keys which law enforcement or military can use.). Just saying!

Keep using it. It doesn't have an expiration date. It has a warranty date of five years. It's a way to limit liability for the manufacturer, nothing more. If you take reasonable care of armor, and especially if you are only wearing it minimal amounts of time, as preppers do, it will serve you as well in 20 years as the day you took it out of the box.

Kevlar has an expiration date, few use it anymore. Modern Ceramic, Polyethylene, and steel armor does not actually go bad in the 5-10 years they list. As long as you don't let polyethylene get too hot for extended periods it will work just fine after decades. The steel is near indestructible. And the Ceramic is shock sensitive so don't throw it around, but it will all still do it's job probably longer than you'll be able to run around in it.

I think it would depend on what you plan to use it for. I've worn both the majority my adult life. I'd say soft armor has the most versatility when the threat is unknown. You also have more mobility and agility. I'd say weigh out what you plan to mostly use it for. Personally, I do have both. I have them for specific roles though.

Both. Get some soft armor that’s concealable and a good set of level 4 plates and carrier for if/when the shit kicks off.

Both, actually. Get both. I prefer the soft kind for daily wear if I have to go to town. I only wear the hard plates in town on Election Day.

Why decide. Get both. For most civilians in most situations, soft concealable IIIA is a good start.

Is @MagicPrepper actually wearing body armor in this video? Is that a plate carrier he is wearing even? Are the mags even loaded? From appearance of his movements he seems like he have very little weight on his chest. I am not trying to call him out but just trying to be able to identify what I am seeing.

Hey bud your not a seal or delta stop setting your kit up like your some kind of operator... you need to be able to carry 7-10 magazines on your kit and from what I can see you can only carry 3-6 with zero pouches on your strong side.... because of these youtube fads people think they just need a slick plate carrier with the ability to only carry 3 fucking mags when that shit will 100% get you killed in a real situation due to lack of ammunition to fight and flee or to fight to win and wont be able to suppress the enemy at all with your 90-120 rounds...

Your video is misleading and confusing. You told us that they want to ban any body armor exceeding level 3 body armor. And that level 3 body armor will stop all rifle cartridges up to 308 Winchester. So what are they trying to ban? Level 4 body armor or level 3 body armor. It sounds like you were trying to tell us that pistol rated armor was not included in this ban. Well the armor ratings for soft body armor that will stop pistol and shotgun rounds are level 2A and 3A body armor. Oh and by the way, level 3 body amor will stop your common M193 and M855 rounds. The steel body armor plates I own will stop 223/5.56 M193 SS109 and M855. It will also stop 308 Winchester. The only rifle bullets that will reliably go through level 3 body armor is 308/30-06 Armor Piercing projectiles traveling at over 2690 FPS or the big magnums with bullets traveling faster than 3000 FPS. I have tested my steel plates and they work very well at stopping multiple hits from the common battle rifle or assault rifle cartridges.
