Probably the best rendering of the Nativity on film; William Wyler has a stunning eye for visuals, and his compositions are impeccable and colorfully rendered. I love the calf running toward its mother at 4:14. That's either the luckiest shot Wyler ever got or the most entranced bit of planning he ever dared.
What a wonderful legend. I know some people abuse it but think of the millions of beautiful family moments this inspired. I can still see my daughter, now a grown and accomplished woman, looking at the tree on Christmas Eve with a sense of wonder she will never know again. I'd give anything to experience those moments again.
This movie was my favorite when it came out.. I was in high school Andersons would organize religious holiday trips to the theater. I’m almost 80 now and this brilliant film holds up

We all watch, and enjoy this beautiful film, over, and over again. It touches our hearts, and souls. Then, the word "The End", comes across the screen; unfortunately, not only does it signify the ending of the film....

That YHWH should love us so much that He would send His own Son to be THE Lamb, THE perfect Sacrifice to die for our sins leaves me speechless with awe. I love this movie more than I can say. Do you know why Jesus waited till He was 30 to begin His ministry? He waited because of His mother. It is easier for a woman to lose her son when he’s a grown man who lived a very good life, than to lose a twelve year old boy who had his future ahead of him. She knew her son was special - remember the wedding feast? She told the servants to do whatever her son told them to do and did not seem surprised when Jesus turned water into wine. But I don’t think she knew what her son was truly here for. By waiting till he was thirty Jesus left her with many happy memories: “Joseph, Jesus, James lunch is ready.” “Don’t worry sir, your table will be done on time, I’ll get Jesus to help me.” “Jesus, you never forget to bring me a bucket of water from the well.” Mary, sighing with exasperated amusement: “Esther, Rachel, Rebecca do the three of you really have a reason to come here everyday, or do you just want to look at my son?” By waiting till He was thirty Jesus gave His mother many years of happy memories, even as He gave us a way to pray directly to ABBA Father and took away the sin that kept us from God.

This story was written by a Civil War General who wasn't real religious. He wrote a great story! A fantastic job! The book was turned into an Epic movie. God always works thru the people that aren't always the head of a religion. More common people. Moses, Noah, Peter and Paul.
Irony of course being the director was reportedly not very religious, but that being said, perhaps it shows the very powerful nature of this story whether you are Christian or not.
Ben Hur is very much the movie equivalent to Richard Wagner’s Ring Cycle. It’s bold, grandiose, and almost without peer. On one hand, some of the main characters are absolute dolts who make you want to run headfirst against a wall. On the other hand.. THAT MUSIC.

The showing of Our Lord's Nativity by "Ben Hur" makes it better than its contemporary film "Herod the Great", which didn't show the Nativity and showed King Herod as learning about Our Lord's Birth from one of the shepherds rather than from the Three Kings.
