My Mother took me to see this over fifty years ago. I remember crying in her arms at the end scene. Frances, how I miss you.
God bless you
Yes l was looked this süper film in years 1960 ...65... brawwooo you and 10 comment mouse s fim
Ben-Hur, Lawrence of Arabia, Sparticus, The Longest Day, The Ten Commandments, The Wild Bunch are my favorite movies...and im 30 and have seen these masterpieces...they kicked ass then and still kick ass now...
After all these years and countless times I’ve rewatched this movie, I still get chills during the opening
I saw it when it was new... That's right...in 1959.
Way before there was any word of mouth about it.
Btw, Haya H passed away about a year ago. RIP everyone who starred in and produced this master piece.
Q@@yvonneplant9434
@yvonneplant9434 Wow! You saw it in 1959? How old are you, if you don't mind me asking?
Miklos Rosza truly created a masterpiece when he wrote this beautiful Soundtrack for Ben Hur. It is personally the best soundtrack ever!
One one of the greatest movie and soundtracks ever!!! you get emotional with the birth of christ and then you hear the trumpets...thats when you know your watching a epic movie...
Word! I'd say definitely in the top 10 of ALL time. Personally, its in my top 3 favorites!
I read, a few years ago, that to make this movie just like it was in 1959 would cost a studio approximately 500 million dollars. The sets were monumental. The statues in the arena consumed over 1 million pounds of plaster alone. They had artisans making things to the smallest detail. Never again in our lifetimes will this happen. It was true artistry. The score, by Miklos Rozsa still makes me break out in goose bumps. I still have the original boxed soundtrack my dad bought me at the movie theatre the night he took the whole family to see it. The were selling them in lobby of the movie house. A treasured piece of history.
This was a make or break for MGM...and boy, did it pay off!
@@evertonporter7887 No film that treated the figure of Jesus Christ as this one did could fail. Not only was the soundtrack and plot superb, but this, to my knowledge, was the only film that, because no human being is worthy to play the part of Christ, out of respect for His Divinity, never directly showed His face or allowed us to hear His audible voice. All the other Christian films, IMO, cheapened the role of Jesus somewhat.
I heard that war and peace (Russian version) was coslier
I loved the architecture of the arena, and those statues. Heard Cinecitta studios, on whose back lot Ben-Hur was filmed, destroyed them because they didn't want any other studio to use them. Too bad. There's another statue that sits outside the studio, but it's different from the arena statues. They added to the intensity of the arena, were very majestic and imposing. I think Ben Hur got an Oscar for Set Design, which was well deserved. I remember when they sold "The Story of the Making of Ben-Hur." in theater lobbies-think I saw it at The Winter Garden in NYC. Most first-run epics were shown there. I have a miniature copy that was included with the 4-disc collector's version.
Best movie ever! Reminds me of my childhood with my grandparents in New Zealand they would play this movie on channel 1 every Christmas or New year for how many years lol early hours of the morning, my nana would wake me n my sister up just to watch it together n eat snacks. I miss those days so much. Rest in peace nana Emma, I love you and Ben Hur forevermore.
Brilliant score by Dr Miklos Rozsa. Deserved the Oscar® it was awarded.
I love that Ram's horn being blown at the beginning. One colorful note.
It sets the tone perfectly, sheer genius!
Ben-hur is the best move of Hollywood. But still it is Number one movie. Even technology fully developed these days these people never made again even same effect also
Only in Hollywood they actually tried to make it an again as I had returned from China. I knew it couldn’t be done. Alas, I went to see it. Honestly, it was pathetic, a thousand times worse than any movie I’ve ever seen. It disappeared forever. Hollywood is a pale shade of itself today! It has become a political tool and I quit watching any television or movies. This movie is a testament to the Christ, to the power of greatness of creative writing, music and acting of the past. We have it to remind us of a magnificent story of the past. ❤ This movie along with the original book moved me to tears.
Sixty years later.and just my opinion, still the "Best Picture " ever made.
I watched this movie when I was kid on TV, every year on holy week and then I downloaded because they don´t show it anymore. I NEVER felt a kind of emotion like when I watched this movie , I swear it, if I watch it on the cinema I would cry like a kid
THE BEST MOVIE EVER
One of the greatest musical themes of all times 💖
I have seen this all time great classic for more than a 100 times and I still do not get tired and disenchanted from watching it at any time of my convenience
Without a doubt - the two greatest movies ever - Ben Hur and The Ten Commandments. Thanks for up loading.
Best film score ever, hands down. I get chills every time! Yeah, Miklos did "King of Kings" too, but this has it edged out by a bit. Both are phenomenal.
Miklos Rozsa some of the best classical composers of the twentieth century. It is without doubt the best religious film composer who ever lived !!!!!
bravo for Miklos!!
The Creation of Adam. Michelangelo.
The movie is incredible, 11 Oscars. A Milestone in History of movies.
The music is absolute unbelievable.
I was 12 when I saw this movie back in 1959 and I know how you feel. I bought the record and played it constantly. I love the Friendship Theme with Messala too, but I think the Love Theme is the most beautiful. Also like the music when Jesus gives him water in the desert.
Charlton Heston, Jack Hawkins, Stephen Boyd, and Hugh Griffith. That is some serious acting talent.
My parents taken me to watch this film 65 years before, after my self employed at dubai in my young age this copy of movie I purchased from there.. Even now I have..
This is absolutely the best film opening ever filmed for the big screen!
Right from my childhood days, from as far back when I was just 5 years old, I had heard from my father how monumental and enthralling this film was and of course the chariot race....and then when I was 14 years old in 1986, I saw it for the 1st time on the big screen in one of the grand re-runs of this film....and right from the opening credits, the rousing score and the birth of Jesus I was hooked....and it's been a never ending love affair with this film ever since....I have lost count how many times I have watched this film....and now it's been almost a decade since my father passed away, but his memories and my love affair with this film are never ending....the music, the grandeur and Jesus....never fail to bring me to tears......
The movie, the soundtrack, Rózsa -- I love them all. See the movie in my head everytime I hear the soundtrack. Thank you, ostmusicmix.
first time i saw this movie i was amazed. then i went to my room and cried. the music that accompanies a film usually does that to me
Best movie of all time !
I was only 9 years old when this great masterpiece was being filmed, but it has always made me feel that people millennials ago were basically the same kind of people that we are today. Ben Hur is a film with great emotional feeling in it, just as we also would have likely had, if we had stood in the place of this fictitious hero of old.
General Lew Wallace himself would have loved this movie--and the music.
You're absolutely right.
I still remember seeing this at the old Denham Theater, downtown Denver, in 1959. I was 12 y/o, & so moved by this Masterpiece. Today, as a lifetime lover of cinema, it is my all-time #3 film. -----------MJL, 75 y/o
This is my parents' favorite old Hollywood spectacle film.
Not only in the US, but whole world, the achievements of the creators should be celebrated though the times change.
Legends and reruns of this pic seem to never die out...the score and plot always is practical in one's conscience. ..
beautiful music very enjoyable to listen to
THE CAST FOR "BEN-HUR"I WAS MOST IMPRESSED INDEED!!!!!!!!!!!!ALL THE BEST SPEAKING ROLES WERE FOR THE BEST ACTOR'S & ACTRESSES OF THAT TIME!!!MORTALIZED BY THEM!!!THE CO- STAR'S NEXT IN LINE WITH SMALL PART'S!!!ON THE WHOLE THE FILM WAS A GIGANTIC MOUNTAIN!!!!!!GREAT MOVIE THEN AND NOW!!!!FROM(U.K.).

Music of the Hungarian composer Miklos Rozsa - a real master. Poles and Hungarian friends and allies for all times. Thank you, brothers, for all your help in difficult times. Greetings from Poland!
One of the top 5 films EVER!!!!!!!!!! One of the greatest sountracks EVER
Could not agree with you more. 49 years after seeing it for the 1st time, this music still stirs me like no other.
In 1959, MGM literally bet the farm on "Ben-Hur"; if the movie had failed, the studio would have as well. They shot it at Cinecitta in Rome, brought William Wyler and Charlton Heston in from "The Big Country" to lead it, and the master of 'sword and sandals' soundtracks, Miklos Rosza, to do the music. It worked. It works better in a full-sized theatre, with a screen big enough to handle the 65-millimeter presentation and old-fashioned stereo sound. It temporarily saved MGM, which now is only a shell, having to partner with other studios to make movies.
The goosebumps you get when the trumpets start..WHOA !!
YEP!! SUPERB!!
GREAT STUFF!!!
SEEN IT MILLIONS OF TIME INDEED!!!
TIMELESS EPIC OF EPIC'S!!!
THANKS FOR THE POSTING.
the best movie ever
Beautiful and powerful music !
this movie and it's music gloriously proclaims the majesty of our LORD....may you all come to know HIM before HIS soon majestic and glorious return for HIS own !!!....God Bless !!!
A legendary film in every way, story, cast, visuals. The remake was doomed to failure. You can't improve on perfection. A timeless classic that's really a miracle of filmmaking considering they had no digital effects back then. Holds up well.
Some of the finest cinematic music you’ll ever hear. Incredible.
The finest opening score ever made for the finest movie ever made.
A SUPERB!!GREATEST!!!NEATEST!!GRANDEST!!!EPIC!!THE VERY BEST INDEED!!NO MOVIE HAS EVER MATCHED THIS FILM!!!!EVEN THE UP- DATED ONE 2016!!!!!FROM(U.K.).

My favorite movie and music!!! Great!!! Gorgeous!!!BIG!!!
One of the greatest productions ever released !
Thank you for this video ostmusicmix.
Thank you maxitismakedon for sharing it with me.
THIS is what comes to mind when you think of golden age hollywood; epic scale, music that sounds like an entire orchestra playing in front of you and an almost uplifting atmosphere found that just isnt present in film anymore.
true. I was more surprised by all that film, including visual effects and meanings, than in most of nowadays films. In my top 3, probably my top 1
Rozsa wrote the most magnificent music ever for epic movies-I miss him.
The Chariot race is to this day, THE greatest action sequence ever filmed. ---------WolfSky9
NOTHING ! Rings in Easter like these old fantastic productions. …… it brings back a floodgate of memories growing up and now it reminds me that so will my life come to an end and one day will be with the lord..
Incredible and an inspiration for another master of movie songs: John Williams
For to watch this movie with my 89 yr old dad (because he loves this film and we watched this together in the biggest cinema in my hometown when i was ten) i bought a 69" flat 4 K TV screen...a Movie like this needs a screen like this, minimum
Such a powerful, majestic piece...only God Himself could inspire such greatness!
This Easter season, we need this movie more than ever 🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
This movie 🎬 🎞 🎥 is a masterpiece. The soundtrack is absolutely awesome. I said when i was 23 in 1990 that this was the greatest movie of all time, and next month I turn 57, and nothing has made me change my mind.
The definition of EPIC!
Wow..this fanfare is pure epic!!! Pure gold
As a 12 y/o kid, sitting in the Denham Theater, in old Downtown Denver, on 17th & California streets, that summer of '59--------hearing this opening music! it was beyond moving-----it was trily inspiring. Miklos Rozsa !!
I love this film. The music is powerful.
Beautiful !!
H.D. PLEASE!!!!!YEP!!THE VERY BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!GREAT STUFF!!SEEN IT PROBABLY MILLION TIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!AT THE CINEMA/ AND ON MY D.V.D. !!!!!!!THANKS !!FROM(U.K.)
The stereophonic sound in this film is STILL state of the art even compared with todays sound.
Miklos Rozsa, an outstanding writer of classic soundtracks for classis epic films. One can come up with many descriptions of these wonderful soundtrack and one of my descriptions if Definite Stirring Stuff.
I saw this film as a Child it was thrilling and entertained us brilliant technicolour given the world absolutely great moment epitaph
S06022021. Descanse en Paz Gran Actriz Haya Harareet.
S06022021. Vivira inmortal en sus películas.
No film, past or present, touches this masterpiece. The scene at the well on the road to the galleys is breathtaking, pure genius. What do we have today? Barbie🤮
Place and praise Love over fear. Even horses understand this, so why not humans. Charlton Heston was amazing in this film. To me, the first scene in the tent with the Arab sheik was the best scene in the movie. I could taste the grapes, and I could smell my horses before they went of to sleep.
+1111pyramids1111 And did you know he & Stephen Boyd spent 9 months training to ride those chariots, with those gorgeous horses ? Because of their work, 95% of the great chariot race was filmed with them--only a couple scenes had stunt doubles. ----Yakima Canutt spent over 12 months readying the chariot race, & another 5-6 months filming. It is still today, THE greatest action sequence of all-time. -------------------Wolfsky9
Best movie and score of all time. Nuff said
Powerful music !!!
The camera,BGM and the actors 🙏🙏🙏
You can hear parts of the Ben-Hur score (almost) in the movie scores of The Lost Weekend and Spellbound ; as if Rosza is gearing up for the Hur movie. When Don Birham is looking for his liquor I'm saying "he's in that desert again!"
The magnificent Miklos Rozsa, one of the three giants of film music, along with John Barry and Bernard Hermann
@boyinthedrain : Wow! As a Christian, it means a lot to me that you react that way to the movie.
I agree with your comment. I care more about what happens to the characters in Ben Hur than I do in Ten Commandments. I think that the director William Wyler knew how to balance between spectacle and intimacy. I love his other movies like "Roman Holiday" and " The Heiress". Take care!
Uma obra de arte 👏👏👏
Música hermosísima de la Gran Película " BEN HUR " inolvidable.
This is the bar for music title excellence; this Ben-Hur, and also the title sequence from "The Best Years of Our Lives" are hard to beat; in my Indie "Sisters Go Ye Trailer 2" on RUclips, I tried to reach these heights. In my race for President of The United States, I am so Blessed to have this movie to uplift me. Rozsa is outstanding here.
We are so Blessed to have Inspirational music in our lives; The Spirit of The Lord often comes in strong with music. It is the language of love from God to us.
Another one to listen to is the Hymn "Press Forward Saints" on RUclips.
With all the praise that has been justifiably lavished on "Ben-Hur", a word must be said about the INCREDIBLY diverse talent of its director, William Wyler. He directed Bette Davis in the beautiful period film "Jezebel"; the 1939 version of "Wuthering Heights", with Laurence Olivier (Olivier always credited Wyler with teaching him how to act on screen); the classic murder-drama "The Letter", also with Bette Davis; the postwar family drama "The Best Years Of Our Lives"; and the exquisite romance "Roman Holiday", with Audrey Hepburn. THEN, nine years after this gargantuan epic, he directed his first musical, "Funny Girl", which was Barbra Streisand's debut film. WHAT a life's work!
To this date, the last film to win the Best Picture Oscar for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Once the mightiest of all the Hollywood studios, MGM needed the success of "Ben-Hur" to stay alive. Now, the studio rarely makes movies.
It IS the greatest movie of all time.
I'm 63 and saw this movie when it first came out! And the Lord Who made this possible will be back soon, via the Harpazo, to take those who have trusted in Him Home! Charlton Heston was a Christian, incidentally.
His commercials for the Beer Institute turned off a lot of Christians, and his ending was noit a good testimony to his faith and trust in God, but what a film legacy.
Thanks ostmusicmix for posting.....I'm an atheist but I still have always liked the music and story of Ben-Hur.
This is the reason why the phrase "bigger than Ben-Hur" came into being in the 60's." Why movies such as this are to be treasured is because they didn't have CGI. Almost everything had to be real.......every scene, every stunt, everything that appeared in front of the camera lense.............real.
When was the last time you heard trumpets in a sound track? Tells you something wonderful's about to happen-and it did.
