Steve Vai is one of the few men in the world who is considered a GOD of the guitar and it is not for less, the way of playing is inhuman, it is beyond comprehension. The Hydra is not a musical instrument, it is rather a machine that only he is worthy of playing, just like Thor's fucking hammer only he is worth touching, so is Steve Vai's Hydra.
I'm glad you noticed the mini Harp on the Hydra.! Most people don't see it.
To fully understand the genius of Steve Vai you have to react to the 2005 (06?) live orchestral version he did of For The Love Of God. That song is amazing and shows how he can play all kinds of styles one one guitar, it is amazing to watch! Also he went to school for music, all the orchestra parts, he wrote them, he actually writes for all instruments.
Other solo stuff to react to by him include: Tender Surrender, Bad Horsie, Dark Matter, and Knappsack (where he plays w/just one hand whole song cause of shoulder surgery).
You can see him as lead guitar in David Lee Roth songs like Just Like Paradise, or Yankee Rose. You can see him in White Snake songs like Now You're Gone, or Fool For Your Lovin (where he lays a guitar down flat and plays it like a keyboard). I think w/DLR you can see his triple neck guitar too where one head goes to the right so he has to switch hands to play it. He has a great quest spot on Polyphia's Ego Death too. He's amazing, and he had a podcast a few years ago and he is super deep too, very smart and serene guy with about as little ego as anyone could have!
Hydra is a 3 Headed Dragon hence the Name. Steve Vai is Amazing. First time watching you.

You can see him live playing Here I Go Again, cause he toured with the band, but the only album he wrote and played on was Slip of The Toungue, with singles of Now You're Gone, The Deeper The Love, Fool For Your Lovin, and also features the amazing guitar solo on Wings of the Storm.
