I remember seeing Steve play when he was in Zappa's band at a concert in the Uptown Theater, Chicago. Many moons ago. He didn't have that with him tho...lol
Someone should produce a comedy where he goes back, with this, to re-duel Ralph Macchio from Crossroads. And it should have a key scene where he has to walk into the duel with the case for this thing. :-)
An altered extended scene where at the end, when he throws his guitar down, instead of stomping off stage, he goes and grabs the Hydra. Now, that would be funny!
I don't think it's a commercial for that Hydra guitar. But it's definitely a commercial for going to see Steve Vai live! I would definitely pay to see that performance in person.
Been a fan of Steve since the zappa days he is my favorite.....check out Paul Gilbert,Jason becker, buckethead,Gary Moore so much talent out there ...great channal keep up the good work 🤘🤘
The strings at the tail of the guitar serve two purposes - they are used as a zither when Steve strums them, but when Steve plays the 12-string (particularly in the fretless area), they also act like the sympathetic strings on a sitar, vibrating freely from the resonant notes being plucked!
It’s a CAT5 I believe going into his splitter box by his feet, which then controls the different outputs including piezo, and I think it powers it too.
@@vvoof2601 I never said anything about the switches, yes I know the guitar controls everything, the box is the signal splitter / control box for the guitar, also gives the guitar it’s power. There’s at least 4 different outputs coming from the guitar that has to be routed correctly.
I'm pretty certain that the Hydra is a one-off. Those other strings are harp strings. I think you were trying to think of the Auto-harp. What is even more amazing about this, is the fact that he's doing all of this in real time. I'm convinced that he's from Krypton.
I'm guessing, but I'm pretty sure there are at least 4 separate line-outs for each instrument. I noticed one or two were separated and panned left to right in the mix. Don't get me started on the power supply or the midi sampler.
This is a real guitar made by Ibanez.. The strings Steve strums behind is actually Harp strings. Steve will be playing this guitar when does this song on tour. There is videos of Steve explaining the guitar
This is a one-off guitar, and presumably this is the only song written for it (or at least performed with it), and who else would even be able to play this song? They'd need the skills *and* access to the thing to practice/perform with it. I'm really amazed at the amount of work that went into this guitar.
Steve played a Triple Neck Guitar on the song, "I Know You're Here" (God). Here's the Links to All Videos, including his New "Hydra"! ruclips.net/user/results?search_query=steve+vai+triple+neck+guitar
Ibanez performed the coup of coups when they signed Vai as their artist. I'm sure they were more than happy to make this guitar for him, no questions asked.
I think this would be one-of-one like a few of the stuff hed done together with Ibanez, I believe he even have a guitar with his own blood on the paint or something.
It was Vai, but actually less flashy then normal and well contained. The harp flick replaces the hair flip all to the good. First thing I thought when I saw it was that Zappa would have loved it. Then I wanted to see the belt harness he hooks that monster on.
When a virtuoso gets bored during the pandemic, he creates that Hydra thing. Probably took him about ten minutes to master an instrument that didnt exist the day before
I think Steve Vai is extremely talented, but his stuff is hit or miss with me. I usually either really, really like it or I don't. This is not my favorite tune from him, but it isn't bad and is growing on me each time I hear it. Definitely, something I'll put on my playlist and listen to. I'm just waiting for someone to top Cheap Trick's Rick Nielson and his 5-necked Hamer beast, LOL. That Hydra comes close, though. I sure as heck couldn't compose music for it let alone play it. Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when he was working with Ibanez to develop the Hydra. But my biggest question is what is holding that sucker up as I don't see a shoulder strap? Is it hooked on a belt around his waist or is there some video magic going on? If you want to check out another talented guitarist who plays on a multi-necked guitar/bass setup, I'd recommend checking out a Luca Stricagnoli video with him doing a finger-style mash-up of three Iron Maiden songs.
I remember Vai from his Zappa days. Saw him live with Zappa. He was great and it was an awesome show. When he went solo, I had hoped that his time with Zappa would have helped him to compose at that level, but he's not really a composer, he's a guitarist. So while his lead melodies are often quite beautiful, the backing arrangements are usually not much more than backing tracks. He has gotten better in his old age, and his experimental guitar work as well as his influence on the music world in general, is worthy of respect, but I agree that his actual songs are hit or miss.
If Steve and Ibanez wanted, they could sell a small run and probably bank on it. It would be very expensive. Have it be a premium where you buy it and you get a setup lesson by Steve, himself! You'd definitely need someone to show you how to do it. On second thought, they probably don't want to deal with tech support on that thing and will never do it. lol I don't blame them. The call center would be flooded by each owner, as complex as those likely are.
Still one of my all time favorite Vai songs: "For the Love of God" live 1996. The talent the powerful raw emotion of this track always blows my mind. ruclips.net/video/mDZuNM3HmU4/видео.html
Kinda lazy, there's plenty of space between the 7 string neck and the bass neck to fit a mandolin or a banjo into the mix. Steve just isn't putting any effort into it anymore.
Very Impressive. However, I like his older stuff. 😂 Maybe react to "Tina S" who's played some magnificent covers: including: _For The Love Of God - Steve Vai - Cover by Tina S_ ruclips.net/video/nJi8iSpzq9I/видео.html Her _Ludwig van Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata ( 3rd Movement ) Tina S Cover_ ruclips.net/video/o6rBK0BqL2w/видео.html is awesome. 👏 All of her covers are superb. She stopped uploading a few years ago. AFAICT she was getting horribly trolled, and she went to university. Her trolls have been spreading horrific stories, including she died in a car crash! 😞 So, I sympathise with her departure from YT. A recent, more cheerful and hopeful story is she's started a recording studio business. I hope she finds a way to be happy making music for the world to enjoy, without the stress of dealing with the, likely, mentally ill. Best Wishes. ☮️
He is amazing. Exhibiting his talent. Over the top? Yep. But sometimes one needs to show it off even if it’s for themselves. Yet another guitarist that can’t carry Clapton’s guitar case? Haha. That will never be out of my mind.😂
I'm a fan of Early Steve Vai Music, Bad Horsie and For the Love of God mainly, but this "Guitar" makes no sense when the Computer can do all the Loops. Steve is So Desperate for Attention, he is like the outcast kid in High School trying to impress the Hot Girl by doing all kind of Unpopular Cringey things. "Nobody" cares about Technical Music, Where are Classical Music vs Rap Musicians? One is Barely paying the Bills, the other Ones are Multi millionaire.
nobody really gives a s*** about your dopey opinion. and what's getting computer looped moron, the drums? I can't stand when idiots have nothing good to say. keep your fucking opinion to yourself when all you can talk is nonsense.
This is the best thing I've heard from Steve since Passion and Warfare.
You "need" to throw in Tender Surrender between P&W and this. If I get where you're coming from that is ;-).
I remember seeing Steve play when he was in Zappa's band at a concert in the Uptown Theater, Chicago. Many moons ago. He didn't have that with him tho...lol
Dude is ridiculous lol...I always thought that this had a big-time Rush flavor to it.
Someone should produce a comedy where he goes back, with this, to re-duel Ralph Macchio from Crossroads. And it should have a key scene where he has to walk into the duel with the case for this thing. :-)
Brilliant idea!
@@ChasingAnthems Did you notice that the center guitar is his 7 string design?
Or David Lee Roth being one of Silver's senseis on Cobra Kai and Steve Vai coming back, wanting a rematch.
Would love to see the expression on Ralph’s face when Steve takes it out of the case 🤣
An altered extended scene where at the end, when he throws his guitar down, instead of stomping off stage, he goes and grabs the Hydra. Now, that would be funny!
When the song doesn’t disappoint it makes the Hydra even that more amazing. Great playing and powerful dynamics.
It would be so cool to see other guitarists tackle this beast of a guitar with their styles
It's a one of a kind work of art! Priceless already!
You can say he's a master of his craft.
I don't think it's a commercial for that Hydra guitar. But it's definitely a commercial for going to see Steve Vai live! I would definitely pay to see that performance in person.
Yeah, it was something Steve had been thinking about and talked to Ibanez and after I think he said like 3-5 years of designing, thay made it for him.
Tender Surrender has to be one of the most emotional guitar instrumentals ever recorded. Would love a breakdown if you’ve not heard it before
His band members screaming “He took are Jobs” 😂
Been a fan of Steve since the zappa days he is my favorite.....check out Paul Gilbert,Jason becker, buckethead,Gary Moore so much talent out there ...great channal keep up the good work 🤘🤘
Don’t forget Shawn Lane (most inhuman guitar player ever), Tony MacAlpine, Yngwie Malmsteen
Probably Satriani too cause he was the one who taught Vai.

It’s a CAT5 I believe going into his splitter box by his feet, which then controls the different outputs including piezo, and I think it powers it too.
@Jerseyboy that’s what the box is doing, it’s taking all the signals from the hydra and splitting them up and sending them where they need to go.
@@ibanezleftyclub Dude, it literally confirms what Jerseyboy says on the official video showing off the guitar. Check it out! It's all the guitar!
@@vvoof2601 I never said anything about the switches, yes I know the guitar controls everything, the box is the signal splitter / control box for the guitar, also gives the guitar it’s power. There’s at least 4 different outputs coming from the guitar that has to be routed correctly.
The first time I heard Allan Holdsworth I thought I'd heard it all. Now I've seen it.
The instrument you were trying to remember was the Autoharp .. :-) I'm 54 and surprised I remembered what it was called .
Or a Dulcimer!
I played one in middle school 1973-4 or so.
Steve plays the impossible. Such a unique musician.
You’re not getting this at Keith urban show
I'm pretty certain that the Hydra is a one-off. Those other strings are harp strings. I think you were trying to think of the Auto-harp.

yeah supermans lost brother from a diff mother lol one giths villians and the other plays and master all gutiars pretty cool
I would Like to see Greg Howe play this...Vai you da man
Check out Steve's interview with Rick Beato
I'm guessing, but I'm pretty sure there are at least 4 separate line-outs for each instrument. I noticed one or two were separated and panned left to right in the mix. Don't get me started on the power supply or the midi sampler.
You don't have to question, ask or ponder any longer: Steve Vai is the greatest guitarist of all time .
I think the short one at the end over the cutout is a type of Sitar.
This is a real guitar made by Ibanez.. The strings Steve strums behind is actually Harp strings. Steve will be playing this guitar when does this song on tour. There is videos of Steve explaining the guitar

Yes, but I need to review a better video than the one I did.
Steve Vai said it was made by Ibanez for him. I have a few Ibanez Jems signed by him! :O)
Ibanez performed the coup of coups when they signed Vai as their artist. I'm sure they were more than happy to make this guitar for him, no questions asked.
Would love to see him duel Satriani. Call it (VS.).
Steve’s Hydra guitar is not a production model for sale. Only exclusive to Steve.
I think this would be one-of-one like a few of the stuff hed done together with Ibanez, I believe he even have a guitar with his own blood on the paint or something.
It's only one of one....for the only one that not only could come up with the thing...but only one that could play it.....Steve

I don’t think you can purchase this guitar so then Vai can say… “you can’t play this”!!!
in an interview steve said ibanez made it for him, it was his idea
No doubt this man is genius!!
harpsicord? I'm trying to think of what that is at the bottom of his guitar
When a virtuoso gets bored during the pandemic, he creates that Hydra thing. Probably took him about ten minutes to master an instrument that didnt exist the day before
Guitar GOD #1
The fourth one is an autoharp.

If aliens came to earth and demanded one entertainer that would most likely appeal to them, Steve Vai is it.

Vai.
He uses a waiste strap to hold it up.
Whats a country artist in modern era?
That 4th instrument is a Harp.
Fakking best song ever, next level. Wow
Vai = G O A T in English!
previous coment i think its strapped to him via huge belt?
Can you imagine what that thing cost to produce? My guess would be about £25,000 ($32,500+).
Basically a musical genius who decided to play guitar............
Exactly!

Well put. I Couldn’t have said it better.
Teeth of the HYDra.... HYBRID..... ???
HOW IN THE WORLD IS IT STRAPPED to him i see no straps on his shoulders it's fixed and centered no movement
Looks like it's on a belt or harness. It would be too heavy to have on a shoulder strap.
You apparently didn't notice.
A Dulcimer?

Sitar maybe?
