Hey guys, Thanks so much for making this video. I'm very touched by your kind words. If you feel entertained then my job here was done. To answer your question, when I was writing this piece I was also recording it as I went. I recorded it in sections and not all on one pass, but each section was recorded in one performance the way it's seen in the video, but not with the showy movements, and the Hydra was on a stand. The only thing I went back and re-recorded was the harp strings because the pick up for the harp strings picks up the vibrations from all the other necks and makes things a little more messy overall. Yup, it's heavy. It took me perhaps 3 weeks to be able to perform the piece all the way through standing up the way I'm doing it in this video. It will take me a while to be able to play through it relatively perfectly live. That's the goal. Thanks so much for taking the time to make this post. It's always inspiring to me when I see people enjoying my quirky weirdness. I think that's what I'm here for! 🙏
There's an Ibanez video breaking down the Hydra. That's a harp he's hitting on the bottom. All the necks can be independently shut off, pick ups coil tapped and modulated. He has a "climax control", ethernet input, extra lamp plug, tubes, etc.
What I love about Steve Vai is that he's always, ALWAYS exploring, pushing the boundaries, and especially, making it fun and interesting. He is necessary! His contribution help keeping electric guitar alive.
He's soooo animated in all he does whether a guitar is in his hands or not. This is infused in his playing....and rarely does the same thing twice. Steve is the Electric GOAT ...hands down.
I thought this was a gimmick at first, another three necked guitar played separately at certain points within the composition - however this has blown my mind. To incorporate all this musicality and technique on one instrument is insane. Again, Vai had a vision in his mind and executed it to perfection….Astonishing.
Dude's a wizard 😆. Love that the instrument looks like a hydra. Amazing video guys! Congratulations! One my favorite albums of SV is Flex-Able (1984), in that album you can hear Zappa's influence. With this song the vibe is very intoxicating 😎🤘
Hey Alex! Yeah man, serious guitar wizard, and yes that guitar is something else...Happy you liked the video. Yes early SV the Zappa influence definitely comes through! Steve is coming to play in London in June, absolutely cannot wait to see him live! 🤘🏻
Damn !!! This is what i love about mr vai !!! Doesnt even need to shred like crazy to be CRAZY !!!! Totaly awesome !!! Thanks so much for that !!! And by the way i notice mr vai himself comment your video and that makes it a total winner !!! You guy's deserve it so much !!!amazing !! Bravo !! Cheers 🍻🤘🤘
I’ve watched/listened to it for the last couple hours, it seems like there’s something different I pick up every time I hear it. Steve is incredible, can’t wait to catch him live again. Great job on the video guys, keep ‘em coming.
We felt exactly the same. Sometimes after years of playing in can be difficult to find music that really gives you that inspired feeling that you came across when you first made the decision to pick up the guitar, but this song/performance does it! One of the reasons why Steve is one of the best in the world.
Hey guys. I’ve played for many years. I think I’m ….decent. I’ve had other guitarist say, your very good , Scott. I said, thank but……if I watch and listen to Steve or SRV….I feel like I have played for 6 months. My goodness. Incredible.
For those kinds of things, Steve Vai 🎸 is a Guitar God, he is beyond the stratosphere in terms of his level. the way he makes love to guitars is unique and special.
A guitar god, constantly growing, practicing, exploring and humble to boot! Steve Vai is just so very, very cooooool. Really fun reaction you got my sub and thanks.
I kinda wish I'd heard the song before the vid, cause the song blows you away, and then if you saw Steve was playing everything, you'd be blown away again on a whole'nother level.
I've watched the Official Video more than 100 times , I've probably watched 20 different reaction videos , some of the reaction videos were so good I had to watch several times , a MASTERPIECE that will be used as a musical reference video ! 😉
It's great to see you guys keeping metal alive, and your honest and excited videos. Steve Vai is one of the greats for sure, I've followed his career since the 80's. I'm big on finding talented guitarist. You may be interested in checking out Yo Onityan, some say he's the fastest guitarist in Japan, I don't know for sure, but I do know he's a great guitarist. Here is his song "Path to Victory" ruclips.net/video/ukp3SKq9np4/видео.html
Thanks for your kind words Ed! Glad you feel our content is honest and pure, that's what we strive for! And yes we are also here to keep metal alive 🤘🏻 Thanks for your recommendation to check out Yo Onityan as well, we'll definitely check him out!
Legal o "react" de vcs. Embalado no Video do Steve Vai, vcs poderiam fazer um react do Marcinho Eiras, também um guitarrista impressionante. Não lembro se vcs já fizeram, se não, fica a sugestão. Sucesso!
Awesome video! Did you guys see the "reveal" video for the Hydra back in January? This answers a few of your questions about what's going on with the guitar. ruclips.net/video/1ehGGTS83m0/видео.html
Hello PETE & VINNIE, would you mind to do reaction for the video of ALIP_BA_TA, you will get much viewer, trust me. Awaiting your opinion for his perform. Thank you

Steve, vc é único cara .. show.
Big shout out to the late Allan Holdsworth and his Synth Axe. This song gave me those vibes!
Thanks To you Mr vai !! Still giving so much after all these years !! True passion end's the warfare !!! 🙏
Love your work, Steve. And all you did with Mr. Zappa.
Vai and Zappa, what a team. Steve you've done it again. Bitchin
Vai is into his 60's now and is STILL one of the greatest rock guitarists in the world.
Exactly, always keeping things fresh!
Fine wine, fine wine..

Steve is the Electric GOAT ...hands down.
Those are the 13 harp stings that he strums at the back. He has a presentation video of hydra on his official channel.
Thanks Erkan! Yes watched that now, so cool!
Steve never ceases to amaze me. It's always so cool to see your guys' reaction! 🤘
Hey Valeria! Hope you're doing well 😁 Yes Steve is one of the best, he never ceases to amaze us as well. Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video! 🤘🏻

His creativity seems to know no bounds, I wonder how much stuff we will never hear or see.
Exactly Steve probably has tons of unreleased material waiting to be heard!
The song sounds like how the guitar looks, unbelievable

HAHA, I'd Love to see Steve and MAB "Duke it Out"!!!

So many layers right?! Lots of cool details hidden in the mix that take at least a few listens to pick up!
When he flips the switch it sounds like when on a modeling amp you turn your dial from different amp types .🤯
I am sure you know by now there is a live version of him playing. So yeah, he does it in one take
Awesome reaction fellas!
First time viewer here.
Steve Vai is the GOAT!!
It's the kind of performance that takes me back, and makes me feel like I was when I first started playing guitar... In awe.

This song never gets old i love this, I watch this a lot
He can do this whole song live

How many times did I watch it? Had it on loop for at least an hour. Was waiting for him to show off the Hydra.
Quite the debut for the guitar!
For those kinds of things, Steve Vai 🎸 is a Guitar God, he is beyond the stratosphere in terms of his level. the way he makes love to guitars is unique and special.
It’s a fact, but this is the most professional reaction of the guys to Hydra on all of RUclips.
Steve Vai released a video on his channel it lists all of the Hydra Guitar's parts.
Yes we've watched that now, thank you 😁
@@PeteVinniePlay Cool, thoughts?
Steve Vai is a legend
Adorei a reação de vocês...Steve é um fenômeno.
He is just on a level of his own. Nice video lads, I reacted the same 😁

And the harp strings in the back
It's both accessible and mysterious. And it's so damned rewatchable. This performance is the equal of any virtuoso, in my super-humble opinion.

Great video, thanks for sharing!
You're welcome!
Brilliant track and performance.
wow.... Gorgeous....Genius of the guitar...
Hey Asli! Hope you're doing well. Agreed, serious genius!
Truly amazing guy in every sense
Great reaction and you have a new subscriber. God bless…mightily.
The hydra has everything, except a whammy bar! hahahaha thats so funny
If you look up close you can see that there is a floyd rose in the middle and yes there is a whammy bar!!!!🤘😉
Exactly hahaha
@@Zack-hn2ui Just the floyd rose bridge, no bar
I had to take the whammy bar off because it gets in the way when I'm navigating the Hydra. That was a sad day, ha. s
"Music needs him." Yep, well said.
He did some guitar work in the Halo games, hence their memorable sounds.
Really?! Didn't know that! Very cool fact
kick ass, brothers!!

Um salve do Canal Seleção em Foco!
Mind blowing! I make the same face the guy on the right makes at the same time when Steve hits that low 7th string in the main riff.
Hahhaha I couldn't help that face when the low 7th string came in, heavy stuff 🤘🏻
Great reaction guys. Whole is fantastic. Each song different from the other
Whole album I meant
its a harp..how cool
So cool!
Yeah i herd that 🤔❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Makes us common folk wanna go practice more huh?
If you've seen the movie Crossroads, you will remember Steve(Jack Butler), sold his soul to the devil. Maybe there's some bleed over. hahahaha
Vai is not human 👻😄
you know Satriani and Petrucci called his ass up when they saw that monstrosity.
