So happy to find this video when I was looking for something for my daughter-in-law who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She's undergoing chemo now then will have a mastectomy. We are praying for her & I know she'll appreciate this comfort pillow. I purchased the pattern from you & will probably look at the seat belt pillow for her too. Thank you!
Bought both the Surgery Recovery Pillow and the Large Surgical Seatbelt Pillow as I am undergoing a mastectomy in about a week. Already created two Large Surgical Seatbelt Pillows: one for myself and the other I donated to my colleague, who's a cancer patient like me. I am planning on making a few and donate them to the hospital, for other women in need. Thank you for these patterns!!!
Making one today. At the armpit, cutting v shapes/notches instead of straight lines removes the bulk. Think candy corn with the narrow end at the seam. Thanks for the pattern and turorial!
Thank you for this. Both my Mother and my best friend are getting Mastectomies. One from breast cancer, the other electively. I tweaked the pattern a little to make it look like a giant duck is hugging you, 'cause my friend loves ducks. My mom is getting a Christmas themed one, since she's getting surgery done right before the Holidays.
Thank you! My daughter is having surgery soon and she asked if I could make something like this. Went to YT and found this and ordered the pattern. All very clear. Love that you are doing patterns and instructions to help with medical issues.
I just finished making this for my preventative mastectomy and DIEP flap reconstruction in 2 weeks. It was a really fun and easy project. I plan on making more to donate one I'm recovered enough to sew again.
Hello I've just bought the pattern for my son who's 4 years old and having his open heart surgery in a couple of months. Would the size be OK? Or how would I go about making it smaller? I remember his last open heart he always panicked when he knew he was about to cough or sneeze his face was heartbreaking. I just came across this and I think its amazing 👏 and would be beneficial for him too x
@Aloha Sewing Company thank you so much 🥰 I'm new to sewing so still have a lot to learn. But I'm definitely going to donate a bunch to the cardiac ward when things settle down with him. 🥰
If I make a pillow and then make a cover, could I use the exact same for the cover or do I need to add room, like use a smaller seam allowance? I don't want it to be baggy.
@danniellebarnes4874 I actually made a cover for mine. It got a little tricky with the zipper 😆 but it works! The pillow was for my mom so she wasn't picky. I adjusted my seam allonce but it's kind of baggy so you might get away with just using the same pattern. Snaps might be another way of closing the bottom on a cover. Good luck!!
@@ashleyriley7661 Thank you so much! I was thinking of using a pillow fabric that is a bit 'slippery' and using the same measurements for the pillow. Would need a really long zipper, so I will give snaps a try. And again, thank you so much for your response!!!
Aloha! Thanks for the lovely pattern and tutorial! I'm so happy to have them to make a pillow for my sister! Question about the pocket - It looks like you have two pieces of fabric, with the wrong sides together, that you're sewing together, so that even the inside of the pocket does not show the wrong side of the fabric - is that correct? Mahalo!
First I'd like to thank you for sharing your pattern and instructional video. Now here is my question...Will this pattern size work for my boyfriend who is having open heart surgery? He's 5'9" and has somewhat of a round belly. Should I make the pattern larger or it is fine the way it is? Thanks ahead of time for your help. Ps...I need to start making this pillow ASAP! his surgery is just in 2 weeks (April 4, 2023)
You’re so welcome! This is going to be her biggest helper post-surgery. I would definitely recommend adding the optional pocket and including an ice pack! You can get them for $2-3. 💕

You can do it either way with this project! :)
I’m going to try to make for ex lap surgery. Thank you for walking me through this.

Following the downloaded Etsy template and tutorial it turned out very well. Thank you so much.
Very nice. I am going to make this for myself for my upcoming surgery. Thank you!

Prayers for surgeons steady hands and quick recovery! It is a WONDERFUL and incredibly helpful gift to sew & donate.
That's so pretty😊
Tks for sharing this project with us 😃
I love your fabric! Thanks for the tutorial! I'm having a double mastectomy next month & need to make one before then.
Thank you! I got it in Oahu when we visited my husbands family. Prayers for steady surgeons hands and a speedy recovery for you!

I pray his surgery and recovery goes smooth and quick for him! Print the pattern at 75% for a smaller size. ❤️

I would be interested in knowing this as well. Did you give it a try? My concern is: How would you clean this pillow?
