  • Super late to the game but I think it'd be nice to have this comparison in place now that infants are here.
    Little disclaimer, I've gone over toddler and such 3 times by now in my channel so I didn't want to repeat my toddler comparison and didn't focus on them too much this time around. This is more seeing the big differences between toddlers and infants (focusing more on infants cause they're the new ones) instead of going detail by detail with both, cause that would've taken forever to finish with so many expansions to think about. I almost gave up the idea of making this video but I hope this works
    Anyways, the stage that I didn't know was missing. What are your thoughts on them? Seeing the game is free I'd be surprised if there's any simmer who hasn't tried them by now.
    My opinion?
    Sims 4 toddlers always felt like real toddlers, they're supposed to be from around 1.5 to 3 years old, right? So by that time most kids can walk and eat and whatnot. So I think they regretted sticking so much to that description cause lots of people hated babies (still do) and so we have a good for nothing stage and very independent stage so I guess they felt like there was something missing and couldn't edit the existing babies so now we have the in-between. It's pretty interesting and it makes me think they'll just ditch life stages for Sims 5 and just make them age progressively without differentiating them like they've been doing forever.
    As far as rankings go? Idk, they're all so different! Except for Sims 2 and 3, I pick 2 above 3 any day!
    Anyways, off to work on tree houses and a few shorts I think, see you then!

    If Supernatural is installed and you have a werewolf, vampire or witch for a toddler. That toddler can sometimes manifest their powers, such as biting a teddy bear if they're a vampire, howling if they are a werewolf and making toys disappear and reappear if they are a witch.

      In Sims 4, werewolf toddlers can be taught to howl and then they can howl on command (and if they didn't remove it, werewolf newborns will howl while crying). They'll also roughly play with their toys by putting smaller toys in their mouth and holding them by their teeth and shaking them lol
      Another fun one for werewolves I learned recently is that toddlers see rampaging werewolves as "fluffy puppies" and it sets off a playful mood for them. They can "hug fluffy puppy" too and it'll help the werewolf calm down :D Kids have a similar interaction except it's "hug cool werewolf" or something like that lol
      Vampire infants also hiss and there's a special moodlet for Sims they use the "chomp" interaction on :)

I'd put 2 and 3 toddlers at maybe between 6 - 18 months. Meanwhile Sims 4 infants are about 2 months - 10 or 11 months I believe and toddlers are more like 12 months - a few years old. Which is more in line with where those age groups are in real life.

The childhood development seems genuinely done really well especially in these packs wich kinda surprises me.

    Infants definitely brought a lot for a fulfilling life stage. Baby/Newborn's don't do too much in being a very limited lifestage across all games. Infants kinda fulfills that spot in wanting more from them. They're very much different from toddlers.
    Ppl can say what they want in that this should have been here at the beginning and etc, but it is what it is and you can't change it and it is a great addition that makes for more fulfilling family play.

    i feel like if the sims 4 wasn't so rushed and released maybe worked on a bit more, adding toddlers or infants at launch, it won't get so much hate by others.

    You didn't mention the toddler books in Sims 3! They contribute to skills when they get older and if your toddler sim has been read at least one, they can read all the others themselves if you put it on the floor in front of them and click on it. Use to do that with ALL my toddlers. Max their skills as much as possible before they aged up. Wish Sims 4 toddler books actually did literally ANYTHING.

    Thanks again for another great video❣One interaction that you seemingly missed (I think even with the earlier comparison videos), was the Sims 2 toddler interactions of begging sims on lot for attention; it is one of my favorites, because it allows toddlers to build relationships unique to other life stages, as well as the other mainline Sim installments.
    My critiques toward (my opinion) favored rating: While, this is meant as no fault to the Sims Community (which is awesome, in my opinion), Sims 4's barebones base game, hides most of its predecessors developmental stages behind paywalls, only patching in bread crumbs to the base, unlike Sims 2 & 3 (which the core values were never hidden behind paywalls; i.e. personality traits, transitional stages, etc.). I do not know if it is just me, but I think Sims 4 infants are just a glorified early toddler stage (that one has to buy multiple packs, to even begin to compare to what was patched into the base games of 2 & 3), that EA decided to cash in on later, what do you think? Is it just me, or do infants in Sims 4 appear older than infants?
    Sadly, I could not vote for Sims 4 infants, because, again, it is merely the early toddler stage, which still is mostly hidden behind a paywall. And I am with you Sims 2 & 3 are definitely the exceptions, "I pick 2 above 3 any day." My overall order still stands: 2-3-1-4 (and 4 just keeps falling further and further behind). I will continue to play Sims 1, 2, 3, Medieval, Castaways, along with most of the older spinoffs, while Sims 4 continues to just sit there with my complete lack of attention, due to boredom (I think Sims 4 might have actually killed the series), meanwhile I eagerly await Life by You and Paralives to eradicate my yearning for hoping for an above subpar Sims 5.

    • @TheRedPlumbob
      @TheRedPlumbob  Год назад +8

      Ah! Asking for things is such a basic interaction I do forget it's what the talking skill is for, sorry. As for infants, I feel like they're here for all the people saying babies are too limited and toddlers are too independent and launching them right before an expansion, which is focused on family, was a very EA move. I hope they change their ways, but it seems competition is exactly what they need.

    • @__MPires__
      @__MPires__ Год назад +1

      I agree with you! Most of these updates and many DLCs are amazing ideas, but the main problem persists, which is the boredom that the game itself is.
      I tried to play Sims 4, I just can't get excited when playing it. I can't put my fingers on why I feel they way.
      I guess the whole thing emotions system just doesn't cut it for me. Sims 2 and Sims 3 have way more personality and there's no emotions system integrated.
      And I won't even get started on the lack of open world.
      Hoping Sims 5 will bring that magic back.

    • @TheMya1988
      @TheMya1988 Год назад +1

      @@__MPires__ "Boredom" is the key word description for me also with Sims 4. Whereas with all its predecessors (including Sims 1), that was never the case. Furthermore, there is far more emotions (especially lingering consequences), in Sims 2 and Sims 3, even in Sims 1 that it just begs the question how inept the Sims 4 emotion system is. With the way the emotion system is designed, instead of getting mixed emotional states, they override one another. But even if they were to try to fix it, I just think every sim would be bipolar (even that would be far more interesting than a hierarchal emotion system).

    Well, infants in Sims 4 are basically toddlers with some pre-toddler features, but it's sad that for most of those you need Growing Together. Don't get me wrong, Growing Together is great EP, probably the best for Sims 4 and I definitely recommend it. But I feel that some features from them, like better growing interactions for infants, milestones, quirks, carriers, or changing tables should be in base game. Without Growing Tohether, infants are like toddlers in previous games, especially in Sims 3, where toddlers were already trimmed down significantly from Sims 2.
    Still infants in Sims 4 are much closer to toddlers than Sims 4 toddlers. Those are more like preschoolers with some toddlers features. But calling them toddlers, when they don't even toddle... well, that's not the brightest idea Maxis ever had.
    My winner is still Sims 2 toddlers. They are the most realistic and most fun take on toddlers/infants Sims ever took. Sims 4 infants with Growing together are, however, close secong. Without Groeing Together, however, they would be far beyond Sims 3 and 4 toddlers, because they are just THAT boring. But, of course, that's just my opinion.

    Hear me out …. (No hate towards ANY opinion) I am not a sims newbie I have been playing this game since Sims 1.
    It’s not that I disagree with the whole 40$ for this and thaaat, it should be in the base game statements towards a lot of packs.
    Indeed some things are basics and I also think it should be just there. But as a game design student, A Sims lover and just as a human with an opinion I want to defend them a little.
    As a game design student I can tell you you can say “It should be just in the base game” On ALMOST” every pack in Sims 4….3,2 and 1. These packs exist not only for money but also for keeping the game alive and relevant for a long time. Pricing depends on a lot of stuff. Paying 40 dollars once in a few months is obviously your own choice (I am by no means saying everyone have the money whilst they do deserve and maybe want to enjoy the pack) but listen it’s just like I wanna play a game and I can’t buy it on steam so I can’t go and blame the Developers for making it cost money. I can promise you as game designers we don’t always just think of robbing you of money (PS. People need salaries lol) …I swear. Some of the prices of packs are definitely questionable 😅 and some should be free (in my opinion these would be seasons, parenthood, high school years and growing together)
    As just me I’d like to say that SOME people are very very hateful on anything EA does with sims today and always say that it’s a a sh***y game and look at sims 2 and 3 and on and on. Listen ofc sims 4 may be lacking but 1. They had some issues if I am not wrong with the game at launch 2. Sims 4 can also be better than other parts sometimes and 3. If you really hate EVERY pack they release like some seem to - go play sims 2 rlly no offense.
    I will go back and say that yes I agree with most opinions - Sims 4 does disappoint in a lot of places (For me timeline/storyline of sims 4which doesn’t exist almost, hit me the hardest) , Yes EA’s choices are stupid sometimes, Yes I also go down on them sometimes myself - But overall I think some people are just finding it fun to hate on EA and Sims 4 in every aspect and by the end of the day I am opening my Sims 4 again and pretty much having fun. I bet some of you do too….)
    Love y’all and please remember I didn’t mean to offend anyone with my opinion 😮😁

      I think Sims 4 pisses me off the most because it often feels like they're testing the waters of what players will pay for, like remember the ballpit that was just an image? They would've left that the way it was if it wasn't for people complaining.
      That and many other things like ghosts, pools, toddlers, and terraintools being missing for so long make me think the people in charge of the game don't care about their game at all. If they really loved the franchise, how could they do this to it?? Taking very basic stuff out of the launch really ruined Sims 4 as an early player.
      The Sims is one of the best-selling games on PC, Sims 2 is still beloved, Sims 3 pushed the limits, Sims 4? It has a lot of the most underwhlming packs in the series, and Sims 3 had Katy Perry sweet treats, so I don't say this lightly 😂

    The toddlers in TS3 are so cute! My two sims have a daughter named Elizabeth. She is a toddler at the moment, and I have already had one of the parents teach her how to talk and potty train her. The only thing I really have to teach her is how to walk, so she can move past the crawling and bobble around on her own two feet. Her mom is unemployed at the moment so she can tend to all of her baby girl's needs, which comes in handy because sometimes the toddler will fall while they're walking and they'll start crying. I make sure to take care of whatever it is that they are crying about (hungry, dirty diaper, etc.) to avoid a nasty run-in with the social worker.

      On the other hand, toddlers in Sims 4 mostly behave and look like preschoolers. And when you think about it, it seems to be a thing with all lifestages in Sims 4. Teens look and behave almost like adults, kids also look (though rarely behave) older then they did in previous Sims games. So yeah, I see a pattern here.

Also, in Sims 3 toddlers who had been taught how to talk could talk to other toddlers and build relationships while playing at the blocks table and the dollhouse; haven't played with a toddler in Sims 2, but it wouldn't surprise me if they could do it there too. And you missed out on the play peek-a-boo interaction between children and toddlers in Sims 3, which is adorable (and again, builds relationships)!
