Currently watching this at 2:36am because my insomnia is absolutely killing me and giving me the worst anxiety. This was the first video that came up when I opened youtube. I watched the whole thing in it's entirety and realized mt anxiety had gone away and I was super sleepy. (It's not boring, it's extremely calming). I felt so much better and saved me hours of exhaustion
Glad the video is back Robin. It’s such a lovely square but I need to understand the logic of the pattern as this is how my brain works. Great work and thank you 🧶Maria🧶
I was lucky enough to be taught to crochet by you in person about 8 years ago! I still love to follow along with your tutorials. I can't wait to try this one. Thank you so much.
I enjoyed watching this so much, when something new concerning crochet is shown I get such a happy feeling even if I never do it. Crazy I know. Thanks for sharing it ♥️
Ever heard of a horror manga called "Uzumaki" by Junji Ito? Spirals can be freaky and terrifying if you look at too much. The spiral granny squares reminds me of that book.
I thought I was losing my mind. Went to rewatch the last few rounds because I dozed off and couldn't find the video in my history! Thanks for the time stamps. 😄
Robin, I usually don’t leave comments but I have to give you your flowers for this one! Thank you so much for the clear instructions making it beginner friendly!! ❤ Please if you can make and teach us how to do a sun and moon granny square!!
Oh wow I've just made one of these squares and oh my it's absolutely gorgeous. Thank you so much Robin for your wonderful clear instructions. At first I thought it might be a bit confusing but it honestly wasn't at all. Please give this a go yarny peeps you will not be disappointed with the results and anyone can do it with Robin's wonderful tutorial. Thank you again you are a great teacher, I'm off to do more squares and I can't wait to make a blanket with them ❤
Are you thinking what I’m thinking?! One giant continuous spiral rather than multiple smaller squares joined? I was scrolling thru the comments to see if anyone had suggested this idea yet or not and then I found you! I would be excited to see how that would work up!
Thank you for this tutorial. Not only for your CAL but I’ve wanted to do this for another project and every tutorial I’ve found wasn’t clear or was very confusing 🤪. This is VERY CLEAR and not confusing in the slightest. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…..YOU ARE THE BESTEST!!!
I'm buying the yarn for your blanket going to have to make it . . Had a go of the spiral for first time with four colours it worked thank you . For your video. Now to try with two colours . I lost the white loop at one point despite leaving it long , hiccuuup lol. But sussed it by attaching numbered stitch markers to the loops problem solved also helps keep track of colour order . Love it .
HI THERE! This video is really good and well explained! It brings good vibes. I have nailed now the spiral square !!! I also would like to ask you, if possible, : if I wanted to do a bigger spiral, how would the increases be? Thank you so much!
Love this. Can the spiral keep going to make a blanket that is 1 large piece rather than individual small squares? If so, what adjustments would be needed?
I found after round 2 stitch markers after first stitch helps keep your place for next colour so you work the correct amount of stitches. Thank you Robin love this! ❤
Fantastic! Your videos are so good....everything is well explained and demonstrated...you are my go to when I'm looking to try something old or new! Thank you!
I have been waiting for this square! I thought the colors for the various blocks were a bit too bold and forward for my style. Then, my new kitty was climbing onto my yarn bins and toppled one over. Out plopped a skein of teal and a skein of orange. The contrast was definitely striking and not altogether unappealing. lol So, I wanted to give them a try together in this square. Now, what to do for the others as I do believe this qualifies as participation in the CAL. Thank you so much for all of your time and attention to your tutorials. Even as a long time crocheter (50+ years), I often pick up some new tips and better ways of doing some things. Thank you so much, Robin! 🖤🖤
It is absolutely the whole idea behind the CAL so you more than qualify! I wanted people to be able to pick the elements they wanted, use whatever yarn they want, whatever colours - plus teal and orange sounds AMAZING 😍
Oh. Read the info. I see i need to make 4 colour first. Will do this then try black and white as advised. Especially need to get it as left handed makes it harder and have no idea how to swap over even though you provide a link. Didnt work for me but i lack the tech savvy.
You are the best teacher .. its so soothing and enjoyable at the same time .. in fact very much easy to do .. can you please tell how to make the bigger spiral granny square Thanks 😊💕
I've missed your emails. I was at an empass as to what to crochet next so I went to your FB page. lol Going to try this spiral as I was doing another one and it wasn't working. Your patterns always, always work for me, not to mention they are super cool. Thank you!!! Sheila Donnelly ps ...I think I've made like 4 of your log cabin ones. lol
Using the chunky yarn and the 6mm hook made my squares approximately 6 and a half inches in size. If your squares come out with slightly differing sizes, DON’T PANIC! Once they are joined you will not notice.😃
Thank you so much for the step by step tutorial. I am a veteran crocheter and never until your video was able to do a correct spiral. Now with practice I can make an entire piece with many squares. Although, what is the technique to keep the spiral going and not square it off? Is there a tutorial for that?
Non crochet related question but what is the temperature where you are? I ask because I see you are wearing a sweater and I’m in South Texas and our heat index was at 117F today.
Such a cool square!! For two fewer tails to weave in, I’m wondering if you could choose one of your 4 colors that are already attached to work those border rounds? You’d need to start in the middle of a side though, so the seam might be more obvious. Something I’m more aware of now after your awesome seamless granny tutorial the other day!
This is a fun square. Much easier than I thought. Question. If you wanted to make it bigger do you stitch an additional stitch and then make two stitches. Example. Increase 3 single stitches then 2 single stitches to increase. Next row 4 single stitches then 2 single crochet in one stitch to increase that row. So each row increases by adding one single stitch then 2 stitches in one stitch. I hope you understand what I just wrote. I really like the pattern. Thanks for the lesson.
To clarify, I want to hexagon with the same color and have to color end on a corner and I just can’t figure it out (very new to crochet)… I plan to make 2 color stripe & spiral blanket & 3 color triangle and spiral blanket out of hexagons
That might have been on the other video - I had a problem with the original video being corrupted at the end so I had to delete it and reupload with a fresh copy of the video! So don't worry, your comment was personally removed, it was the entire video - apologies for that! 🙈
For a 2 coloured version, the method is exactly the same but you will need 2 balls of each colour (so 2 white, 2 black for instance) then you would start with the white, then attach the black, then attach the second white ball, then attach the second black ball - you might want to use a stitch marker for the start of the round so you don't get lost 😀
You have the BEST tutorials! I have watched a couple of different videos on this type of granny square, and yours is the best. I have it saved for when I'm ready to make this! Thanks 😊💕
Wow I was able to finish it but not as even as yours but there was a spiral. Your teaching was phenomenal plus little hints made it possible for me. Great job! Truly loved it! Thanks!😊
Using the chunky yarn and the 6mm hook made my squares approximately 6 and a half inches in size. If your squares come out with slightly differing sizes, DON’T PANIC! Once they are joined you will not notice.😃
I'm a little bit advanced beginner, have only made a couple of plain granny squares and one circle to square so far and I've just made this one!!! Same colours actually because I like the combo and had them on hand. It came out great at first attempt, you're such a great teacher!!! Thank you so much, these are really fun!

I used it for my blanket, you can see a photo here: www.hookedbyrobin.com/blog/festival-pic-n-mix-blanket-crochet-along but you could use it for anything you fancy! A cushion, a cardigan, a placemat etc. There is so many things you can make with granny squares.😃

Oh, a whole blanket with just this square would make a great optical illusion.
Ooohhh yes!😅
Glad the video is back Robin. It’s such a lovely square but I need to understand the logic of the pattern as this is how my brain works. Great work and thank you 🧶Maria🧶
it can be a tricky one to get your head around to start with for sure! xx

Blimey where has time gone??! I'm so glad you've kept up the crocheting!!
I enjoyed watching this so much, when something new concerning crochet is shown I get such a happy feeling even if I never do it. Crazy I know. Thanks for sharing it ♥️
Not crazy at all! 😀🧶
Really clever that you showed this using four different colours! Makes it much easier to see how the square and spiral are constructed. Thanks!
You’re so welcome, I’m pleased the colours helped!😃🧶
I have this saved for later 😊. THX Robin 🤗. The black n white remind me of "The Twilight Zone" 😂... 🤪😎😬
😅

The left handed view youtube is fantastic. This will really make this square so easy for a lefthander. Amazing👏👏👏appreciate you sharing it❤️❤️❤️

Robin could you show how to do the spiral stitch to make a baby blanket 😃
Are you thinking what I’m thinking?! One giant continuous spiral rather than multiple smaller squares joined? I was scrolling thru the comments to see if anyone had suggested this idea yet or not and then I found you! I would be excited to see how that would work up!

Heck yessssssss I love this and you are one of the easiest crochetuber that my brain can follow along
SAME!!!!!!
I agree.
🥰🥰🥰
Robin, this is SO SO clever! Can you just imagine doing this in a Ruby red sparkle, and a golden yellow, for a 'Journey to OZ' afghan!?
Richard
That would be so amazing Richard!😍
I am SO HAPPY to see this video!!! I can’t wait to try this!!! THANK YOU!!!

All I want to say is that this broke my brain not in a bad way but it's hard for me to work with more than 1 ball of yarn
It definitely gets easier with practice.🤗
HI THERE! This video is really good and well explained! It brings good vibes. I have nailed now the spiral square !!! I also would like to ask you, if possible, : if I wanted to do a bigger spiral, how would the increases be? Thank you so much!
Dear Robin, thanks for this super video, so well explained. What would you recommend in case I want to continue the borders and make a bigger square?
I love this design. I can get lost very easily so I’ll probably use a stitch marker on the pink row so I don’t make a mistake
Use whatever it makes it easier for you Bella, great idea!😃
I did it I made the 4 color one. Now I’m attempting the black and white. It’s very difficult to work with black yarn.
Wow! I always wonder how do you get inspired with such a thing and how do you come up with resolutions ! Very smart ❤
Would you be able to do this tutorial again with 2 colors? The 4 colors was just so hard to follow when I am trying to make a 2 color spiral. 😅
Love this. Can the spiral keep going to make a blanket that is 1 large piece rather than individual small squares? If so, what adjustments would be needed?
Hi robin thank you for this tutorial! It’s lovely. How would one make this square smaller?
Oh Robin I have so many wips! I think I will try this granny to make a bag. You are an amazing teacher! Thanks for this….❤❤❤
Oh me too, always a pile of crochet wips!🫣😂
I wished you would show how to do the black and white spril.
It's exactly the same method - you start with white, then attach black, then attach a second ball of white, then attach a second ball of black :)
I found after round 2 stitch markers after first stitch helps keep your place for next colour so you work the correct amount of stitches. Thank you Robin love this! ❤
You’re so welcome Claire!😃
Yay! Something to drive me crazy for awhile. Great instructions I have it saved. Ty!
😅It gets easier the more you do!

You are the best teacher .. its so soothing and enjoyable at the same time .. in fact very much easy to do .. can you please tell how to make the bigger spiral granny square
Thanks 😊💕
I've not made one bigger I'm afraid!
@@HookedbyRobin ok .. I’ll try that .. just want to know should I increase and do in the same manner or is there some change in increasing part
Thanks for fixing the video! The spiral granny squares are amazing!🌀👵🟧👏👏👏☺️
No problem! Apologies for the mess up in the first place 🙈
Love these! You are a fabulous teacher! Many thanks!
Aw thank you so much! 😃🧶
Robin I did it so proud of me two colors and a stitch marker thanks so much ❤❤❤
Well done Sylvia, that’s fantastic!😃🙌

Brilliant tutorial...we love it. Thank you !
Love this one!!! Thanks 😊. I saved this video for the future.
Thank you Laura!😃
Hi Robin, TY for this spiral tutorial. Was wondering how to go about it. Easy to follow and understand.
You are very welcome! 🥰🧶

I am afraid I don’t have a tutorial for that.🤗
Yikes this one looks tough!
Once you’ve done a few, it gets easier Catherine!😃
Can you use a chain of four and then do the other stitches. Can we see it in just two colors and then three?
❤❤❤❤
❤️
Non crochet related question but what is the temperature where you are? I ask because I see you are wearing a sweater and I’m in South Texas and our heat index was at 117F today.
Hi Melissa, that is hot!🤯 It is about 12 degrees Celsius here today!x
Thank you for the clear instructions. A great video ❤😊

I haven't personally tried taking them larger but in theory, I don't see why not - you'd find out pretty quickly if it wasn't working 😀
@@HookedbyRobin, after I learned this I will give a larger one a try and let you know.
Is it possible for you to do a video on how to hexagon a circle/spiral? I cant seam to find any

I did it but Holy Hannah….this was a tough one.
They get easier after a couple I promise! 🙈
You have explained this so well thank you. Will give it a try.
Thank you Debra!😃🧶

Looks like my comment has been removed?? I went to look at your reply as I had a notification and it said it couldn't be found xxx
That might have been on the other video - I had a problem with the original video being corrupted at the end so I had to delete it and reupload with a fresh copy of the video! So don't worry, your comment was personally removed, it was the entire video - apologies for that! 🙈
My deepest apologies, I didnt realise you had tech issues, thank you so much for letting me know, i was going to get all conspiracy about it lol xxx
@joelayton4054 LOL! No need to apologise! It's the exact same video (just this one actually works) so there's no reason you would have known 😀
Love the 4 colors, but can you show how to complete the square with only 2 colors?
For a 2 coloured version, the method is exactly the same but you will need 2 balls of each colour (so 2 white, 2 black for instance) then you would start with the white, then attach the black, then attach the second white ball, then attach the second black ball - you might want to use a stitch marker for the start of the round so you don't get lost 😀

Yup!😃
