- You can get your concrete tile roof painted (this is called a Roof Restoration in Sydney)- but don't let this roofer/painter who did this roof any where near your place! It will leak more than before...
If you are in Sydney and want your roof leak fixed properly go to our website: theroofingprofessionalswestsi...
We have a new channel at the Roofing Portal which gets a new video uploaded every week. Go there to get the latest Roofing related insights ..... @roofingportal

First off the roof is at a crazy pitch, the sarking is torn under the tiles. When cleaning a roof you can't clean under every tile over lap without causing water to flood the house. Depending on the quote you had the ridge caps should have been repointed but it depends if you where quoted on that. Same as the broken battens should have been fixed if that's what was quoted. As for not enough overlap it depends on how the roof was constructed with the batten spacing. I find most people want cheap cheap jobs and don't listen to what they are quoted
I agree with u mate I knows this is an old post lol .. but most quotes I got they all tried to convince me no rebedding required just repoint and pant for 2k
The cement tiles are NOT there to keep water out, its job is to protect the
the asphalt layer underneath. If the asphalt is leaking trying to silicon the tiles
is at most temporary bandaid but likely a futile endeavour. FIX the roof.
Hahahaha asphalt :') i love it reminds me of flashtak 😂
Not sure where you live Tony P, but that's not relevant Down Under. Our typical tile roof construction is roof trusses (timber, rarely steel, although some use steel frames and trusses) then sarking which is a blue / silver reflective "paper" film, then battens, then the concrete (not cement) tiles. Asphalt is used for roads. Totally agree the roof needs a proper fix and this job wasn't it!
arfter all the comments not one person has said the roof is the wrong picth for these tiles
*the other commenters on here are correct, this is a low pitch roof so painting it wont do anything, it will still leak because in heavy rains the water will pool and leak through*
Cant expect the painter to clean out under the tiles, nor is it his to re-bed and point the ridges. A roofer's job would be to bed and point the ridges. If you wanted a roof clean including under the tiles you had best specify it. It's not easy and is completely different from painting. As for the silicon, who specified that? Do you blame the painter for the loose batten?
Look, while you are up there why not fix it up the way you would expect it to be done?
@ 3;52 he points out the silicone has come away from the tile, (which should not be there, obviously) but he has removed the tile directly under the problem which would of created the crack in the silicone in the first place. the job is a bad one though for anyones standard.
I swear to god I had 9 roofers check out my roof . Some wanna rebed some just wanted to repoint and convince me it’s diff material now not lioe the old days I can just repoint by not one not one bothers to lift up the tiles and Check timber or plastic sheets under roof .. I had a leak they should at least lift a few twos and check
roof painting should not be done to fix a leaking roof
its like putting a bandaid on a broken leg and try to walk on it
i have painted many roofs in my time as a contractor and i would never paint a roof if the reason for the client wanting a repaint was leaks in the roof
paint is to coat the surface of the roof and make it look nice it does offer some protection to concrete roof tiles and tin roofs but Paint dont fix leeks
who the fuck tiles a 10 degree pitched roof
piss heads in the 70s, thats who
This roof has been destroyed, im a roof tiler and that is probably the worst roof ive seen
were you able to get fair trading involved? if so, what was their response?
I do agree it's a bad job, but you probably went with the cheapest quote and screwed him down for cash, right? Unrealistic expectations for what you paid for. Lesson learnt?
not true... 3 houses here in my street were done by 2 Cambodian guys and their roofs look a million bucks.they charged A$1600-2100.....I was quoted 4600 then was offered 3500 cash after a couple of days.... I agreed and when I checked in the morning.....oh the horror...shouldve gone with the asian dudes.
It's called travelers, gypsies, d2d's whatever you want to call it, they are everywhere. Everyone knows this ...
That re pointing is dam atrocious
I will never hire this company, real bad job they have done
There is nothing wrong with painting conc tiles if done properly. This job is rough and not done by a professional. The tile over laps are fine ,and obviously it's impossible to paint the whole tile. Painting Concrete tiles is not a scam ,sealing a roof is important, a no brainer.
you fool it is not the paint. its the pitch of the roof is the problem
From a future customer's perspective: Roof tiles aren't concrete tiles. They are cement tiles.
Silicone's function is to spot seal little fissures and cracks. Silicone everywhere!? No.....no... it seems the contractors couldn't find the source of the leak, so they were sealing the all roof with silicone!?
Silicone is a dodgy work.
cement is an ingredient of concrete, and no contractor would leave a roof like that, it was most likely a bad roof restorer who isn't competent, or was never actually trained. you can tell also by the poor quality finish of the pointing, its meant to be smooth at 3-5mm, not just slapped on there.
No, roof tiles are concrete not cement! Concrete doesn't have to steel re-enforcing in it. Cement is the grey powder used in concrete (cement = glue).
Agree all the silicone work is dodgy.

I agree, is a mixture of cement (powder) + additives +sand and water. Concrete it is!
so are you saying the whole roof restoration painting industry should be stopped? Come on mate the industry isnt claiming to make it water tight it is purely an aesthetic trade you dingbat
