This is so interesting Sue! I started my new career at 40 and it was very hard I have to say! Now it seems to be working, but I haven't thought of what my legacy would be. Hopefully, my kids would think I am a fighter who never quits regardless of how hard it gets.

Good question, isitebuild. Yes, men are starting businesses later in life too, but not in the same numbers as women, for a few reasons. The average age of widowhood in the US and Canada is 56 - scary stat! With widowhood and the increasing numbers of divorces, more women are entering their later years alone. The financial hits women take over the years - time out child-rearing and pay inequity, results in women entering their later years, less financially comfortable than men. Even today, doing the same job, women earn 87c for every $1.00, men earn, which adds up to a significant financial disadvantage over 40 -50 years. In old age, women are twice as likely to live in poverty than men. Add to this, women significantly outlive men - by the age of 100, women outnumber men 5 to 1. These stats are consistent for US, Canada, UK and Australia. Women are realizing they are living longer, but know they have talents and skills to generate added income into their later years, hence the increasing numbers of women starting businesses later in life.
What will your Legacy to be? I am working to help empower people, especially women, to stand up, be visible and heard by telling their story and offering their wisdom, talent and gifts to The World. Underlying this is my dream of having people realize we live on this jewel of a planet and we need to connect globally and take action to take care of her. We won't do this until we all stand up, are seen and heard and take action. 😀😀
I think it's important that people...women especially...realize that they should plan to make an impact on their lives and the world they live in...if they did so, they would (I think) begin to live more of a meaningful life. My legacy? To impact the lives of those who want my brand of "digital comfort food" through Joe's Dairy Bar and Grill...that we make people feel happy, a sense of fun and play, and make over-the-top memories by enjoying over-the-top food and experiences. :)
