You are right about one thing - there are few reviews of this lens. I just bought one and recall someone else commenting on the focus ring being close to the camera body. I have to report though that I have mine on a CV adapter on a Sony a7R III. The adapter adds a little more room and the focus ring is easy to find on my camera. I can see this as an issue on Leica bodies but with my adapted Sony alpha body there really isn't much to complain about.
Hey Darryl! I've been shooting this lens since a couple of years now and I think it is one of the best 35mm lenses out there. It is sharp and can produce some lovely bokeh. The only thing I vang stand about it is the focusing Ring which is too narrow. Instead of cloning their old design that should have made it a little more comfy to grab and maybe add a tab. The included hood isn't that nice looking but VL is selling a different one that looks lovely and has a cut out but it ain't cheap though. Looking forward to your review! 👏
One note regarding the 50mm f/1.2 hood that you said was huge. That hood would be the LH-10. There is a hood called the LH-8 which is also for that lens. Why there are 2 is I believe the LH-10 is also for the Sony mount of this lens.
Ooh, that looks good... I am looking out for a 35 right now. Looking forward to see the images you create with it. Also, I tested out an M10P last year when I bought a film MP, that shutter sound is very quiet (although, I still feel that the Fuji X-H1 is still a little quieter).
That is an oversized box for such small lens. I am interested in this lens and the 35/f2. Please, test this one you have adapted on a ff mirrorless (close focus adapter and MFD). Check for FC as well and the maximum aperture for across the frame sharpness. Great! I love voigtlander lenses 🥰 Thank you!!
Which shop in Auckland did you get it from? Also would you think the lack of a focusing tab or bump on this lens will slow you down in shooting? Because I found those tabs or bumps are super handy for an indication
Have you try the voigtlander 35mm f1.2 nokton version III? Is it like the 40mm f1.2 nokton? I love the rendering of the 40mm on my Sony but now I move to Leica and I‘m not comfortable to shoot with 40mm on the M10
I have had that lens, isn’t sharp at all, I mean, the 40 1.4 mc is sharper!... (for my test), this one and the 40 mm 1.2 in the other hand are super sharp.
Hi Ruud, got a few projects I need to shoot this week and finish a One Film One Subject video and then I will work on the Summaron video. I have fallen in love with that lens.
I would have gone for the new ultron f2 instead. The handling is better, it's a lot smaller, flare resistant and the IQ is superior. Both are about the same price. It's the best alternative to a 35mm summicron.
Really! I'm considering downgrading my summicron pre-a and my biggest concern about the same range of lens is the sizes (zm35f2, vm35f1.7), so the small VM 35f2 caught my eyes...
I‘m looking forward to the review. I would have liked to have seen some quick sample images because I’m thinking about getting it for my M8 and M5. I got the 7Artisans 35mm f2 right know which I love but I can’t put it on my M5 because of the light meter. I also have the Voigtländer Nokkton Classic which is super nice but not resulut enough for me.
Hi Alex, yes the echo is not good. You wanted to hear it without the special software I use 😭. I shoot my videos in my gallery and its a beautiful old building with polished concrete floor. Its has some great history but was not designed as a RUclips studio :) Got some new sound panels coming soon, they should help :)
@@DarrylCarey Thanks for the answer. Out of context...sort of, if you have the chance to get your hands on Kodak Retina reflex (or rangefinder IIIS) with the amazing Schneider 50mm f1.9 I think you will be very pleased, its a very well built system for the price (around 50-100 $) and with amazing lenses. Its a cheap Leica (film) alternative imo.
Hi, how will this lens perform, image quality wise, on the lumix G9 with an adapter? Will the image be too soft with the 2x crop factor? I would like to use such a lense on the G9 as well as on the S1 in the future. Thanks.
Three and half years later, still waiting for the full review...

This is my main lens and I love it. The image quality which I get from this is really unique and super sharp. A really good choice.
Been doing a few tests with the lens and very happy with the image quality and the size is nice on the Leica M
Darryl Carey I agree. Really good for the money.
Is it good for black and white vintage photography or you suggest Voigtländer 35mm 1.4 for that?
Still waiting for the video for the lens review
waiting for the full review of this lens.
Did you ever do a full review? So far everyone just does unboxing or first impressions of this lens.

You should duel Darryl with the XPan vs the S1 in 13:5 Aspect Ratio mode :)
Nice lens! Any particular reason you went for this one over the 35mm Nokton 1.4? Would be interesting to hear.

No long term video review of this lens yet? I've been looking forward to it! :)

I was checking on your channel for the more in Deep review and I couldn’t find it, you did it?

Never used a 40mm on a Leica, I should see if i can get hold of one to review.
I dreamt of a 16mm VM lens today.
0.95? .... Would be awesome if they made a 28mm f1.2 VM 😱
I'm surprised the hood isn't vented so you can see through it in the viewfinder.
Same here, plus I do not think I would use it if it was vented. If I was to get a Fuji X100, which model is best T or F?
Darryl Carey The F for sure. It’s very good.
Any reason why you didn't get the 35mm Nokton f/1.2 instead?
Its a big lens, bigger than the 50mm f/1.2 and its not sharp as 1.2, plus I wanted something more compact

Love your videos but the audio is echoing, put some drapes, pillows or something soft on the walls.

Great!! camera~
Is it smooth to focus?
Very Smooth, feels like a Leica

It should be fine on the G9 because the crop is of the sharp middle area.
seems like review never came
And where is the full review??
