    Terriffic on digital, unbelievable on film! Adjusted the focus with the supplied tools and went shooting with my M's. Astounding! I hate to say this but this is the best 35 I've owned (in terms of performance exclusively); it's still a gargantuan atachment to any camera compared to the Summicron 35 (f/2) or the Color-Skopar 35 (f/2.5) that are not only extraordinary performers but also tiny.
    PS, I forgot the *_beautiful_* Ultron 35/2.0 which is even better.

    • @jorgemtrevino
      @jorgemtrevino 2 года назад

      @@reyrey5250 It's truly excellent; from 2.8 down I can't see any vignetting. Distortion is also nil. If you get specular lights in the frame it will flare, and much. It will depend on the picture if this works or not. It's certainly not a Summilux but for the price it's a steal! Compared to my old Summicron IV it's much (by orders of magnitude) sharper. The 'cron is bound to be more forgiving and give you a more pleasant image but if you like surgical sharpness this is it. Mechanically, it's unbeatable.

    Benj; your reviews on these budget lens’ are much appreciated.
    I’m entering the Leica world finally and treating myself to an M10R. (Talked myself up to the R)
    However; Leica glass is not on the immediate horizon, and I’m ok with that after watching your TT 50mm-1.4 review.
    But I’ve always GAS’d for a Lux FLE 1.4 and this TT 35 sure checks that box hard. So maybe it’s the 50mm’s companion.
    Would you go for anything different if it’s a guys hold over lens? (I know the 7A 35 1.4 is sharper, but it looks so cheap and maybe the smaller Voit Nokton would be best, etc)
    Anyways, I get the green light from my wife and now I’ll all in a panic.
    I guess my question is what’s your “2-3 third party M mount lens kit?
    Please keep covering these cool affordable lens’.

    Hi Benj, I have had this lens for a while now and have reviewed it. I can confirm that the lens hood is useless and is only for show. You can use a screw in vented hood which does help, although with this lens it will then expose the outer screw thread. Wish they would create a vented (or re-designed) square hood that would screw onto the original fitting. Love the videos man!

    • @benjhaisch
      @benjhaisch  3 года назад +2

      For sure! It’s better than not having one at all, but it almost feels like a way to hide the added length of the lens and add style ;) It would be nice if they included a thread cap or something in case you wanted to remove the hood. Thanks for watching, Nathan. I’ve watched some of your videos with these lenses as well. Good stuff!

    • @nathan_woodgate

      @@benjhaisch Cheers Benj, yeah a thread cap would have been nice, they have added the notch to align the square hood so you cant even adapt a third party one either. Hope all is good and the pandemic hasn't effected your business too much?

    Video @ 4:46 "A very, very shallow lens hood" - To help as much as possible, I used a rubber lens 'cone' in order to remove the front name ring (Caution, this name ring HOLDS the entire front lens group in), then I reversed the ring and spray painted super flat black paint into it and the inside hood. Reattached the name ring (no more busy writing is seen because it's been reversed) and with the hood attached, I've insured ABSOLUTLY no reflections into the optical path; just pure black & glass...

    • @jorgemtrevino
      @jorgemtrevino 2 года назад

      Sure there is. I don't have access to the 3D printer file right now (out of town) but you can print a template to carve the 6 bit pattern with a dremel and then you just use a sharpie for the blacks and leave the wihite spots blank or use some typewriter corrector or white nail polish. It should appear as a Summicron 35/1.4 ASPH to the camera. Otherwise, you can choose it manually from the menu. I've got an M10 too.

    Enjoyed your review. I have a conundrum though. I have the Voightlander 35mm f2.5 Color Skopar, a nice tiny little lens. The focus works great on both my M6 and M240. I also bought the 7artisan 35mm F2. The calibration is spot on using the procedure that came with the lens. When the 7artisans is on the M240 everything works fine (I think - infinity is at infinity on the lens barrel).
    When I put the 7artisans on the M6 it does not focus to infinity. It stops a little short with the lens focus ring all the way to infinity. The photos seem sharp enough The M6 was very recently serviced by YYEcamera. So it should be good. I am tempted to calibrate the 7artisans so that infinity works properly on both cameras. None of my other lenses exhibit this behavior.

    • @benjhaisch
      @benjhaisch  3 года назад +2

      they're actually very unique lenses from each other. the 7Artisans has a more vintage/swirly look but is sharper in the center. The TTArtisan has a more modern rendering and f/1.4 is ok, f/2 is good enough, and f/2.8+ is great.

      @@benjhaisch thanks, I'm going to get a Leica M (most probably a used 240) after 40+ years of hobby photography - partly because of these new 'low budget' lenses seem to offer such a lot. Fast 28, 50 and 75 from 7Artisans and their two 35mm offerings seem great then TTartisan offering the 21mm and another 35mm and 50mm. Looks like I can get a bag full of decent options without breaking the bank. My thought is the 7Artisans 35mm might be the one because of the rendering. Cheers! 👍🏻
