I noticed that! This was terrible but I also felt for their two dogs. You could tell they were quite concerned after their mom was killed. I’m glad the dad survived for multiple reasons but also so he could still have his dogs!
I think being mistaken for a woman was the last thing that concerned him given the events. Kind of a weird thing to feel bad about, considering the horrors he went through. That had to rank as an utter non-event.
I'd seen a video on this last month. It showed that as Carly sat in the kitchen texting, her mother slowly dying yelled out "help me" and Carly yelled out "NO!" Mom suffered while this callous child plotted her step-dad's murder!
Please do not ever change the music in your videos! The music that you typically play after the big reveal in the story is just classic That Chapter!! Its always the same tune, but it has a vibe to it that just works perfect with your story telling/events within the case. Thank you and keep on keepin on!
She absolutely knew what she was doing. Hiding the gun behind her back, telling her friend to hide out back, hising the camera, using the moms phone, etc...
The friend should have been changed with something. She knew someone was going to be shot and she didn't try to get help or call police. Even though she was safely out of the house and could have easily done so.
@kina18 Depends, we have no idea what kind of person that other 14yo was. I mean, they're 14, just got a call from a friend to come help them with something and is faced with the scene of a gruesome murder, and the murderer holding a gun and saying "stepdads next". Fight, flight, freeze and fawn would be real in that moment.
@@kina18 I disagree, the child had just seen a dead body, they were probably in shock, and we dont know what Carly said. She could have said she'd kill the friend next if they said anything.
I know. She looked like she came right out of a horror movie. They really overdid it. She has a young looking face, regular suits would probably have made her look younger and more innocent than the creepy little girl outfits.
I realise this is a minor detail given what she did, but if somebody really carried out nipple piercings and tattoos on a thirteen-year-old girl they need a visit from the police.
Right? How do your parents not know you have weed in your room, you get tattoos and nipple piercings. I never want to blame the victim, because no one is expecting that nor deserves it. But I never get why so many people pretty much give up on setting any limits or standard for their kids.
@@Leila3i5 How do your parents not know?? Because most teenagers will rebel and experiment to varying degrees and all the things you mentioned can easily be hidden from parents. You're pretty naive if you think the average teenager can't hide a weed vape or a nipple piercing or even a tattoo on a part of their body that their parents don't see.
Omg that step dad’s scream was heartbreaking “Carly stop.” The pain in his voice and almost like he’s not fully convinced she’s doing it to harm him at the same time.
he simply didn't know the extent of her depravity and thought she was just scared from a break in... his reaction is fucking heartbreaking after finding his wife
It's so much over acting is why people think it's set up, and they made googly eyes and kissy faces at each other if you watched the trial. It's pretty messed up, she thought she would be out of jail in a few years and see him again, that's why impressionable girls will do anything for love. Wait a few more years and she'll realize she's not ever getting out, then she'll tell it all.
@@bradleyturner7347 What part of getting grazed on the shoulder by a bullet makes it suddenly getting almost shot in the chest? It wasn't even on video. I swear people have limited comprehension, dude opened the door for the cops then flopped on the floor like a fish crying for no reason.
The question that has always stuck with me is Wytf didn’t the friend get the hell outta there and warn someone when Carly told her what she planned to do to her stepfather
@chriskrausesmovie do u really think I don't know how tf to spell little? That's so lame you feel the need to go do a spell check on people's comments lmao!!! How much they pay you?

Living in Scandinavia, hearing about cases like these where a teenager gets life in prison without parole just baffles me. I'm absolutely not excusing her actions, her mother did not deserve to die, however she clearly needed help and spending the rest of her life in prison won't help her. It's insane that courtrooms can send 15 years olds to prison for life.
@@nibordiabla7493😂😂😂😂 omg I work as a WC reporter and omg when I get those calls I literally do not say ma’am or sir until I’m 100% sure what gender they are. It’s embarrassing lol.
She was probably also 14, just saw her friend's bloody dead mother and she's with creepy Carly who has a gun and have just killed her mother. I was angry at this friend at first but I can't imagine what that poor girl must have seen
Some people were trying to tell people that the step dad was in on it which is gross. I know it's happened before but the step dad like single handedly turned over ALL of the evidence. He did the cops job.
@Der_Kleine_Mann like Mike said it's because he still loved her, LIKE A DAUGHTER, after it all. But she's 14. Just because she deserved life in prison and he testified against her doesn't mean that he stopped being her dad (in my family step dads are Dad's too, sometimes even the best dad). You can love someone and know they did wrong at the same time.
I don't believe he had anything to do with it. He helped raise that child and lost his wife. He tried to be supportive he's grieving the best he knows how
Exactly! I was so upset when I saw some people instantly try to blame him just because he’s a step FATHER. All based on the fact that he mouthed “I love you” to her in court. If that had been a step mother doing that nobody would have batted an eye but how dare a man show any love for the child he had been raising. The man seemed so genuine. The stigmas are very strong in this sense.
Yeah, of course, that well-known old cliche of 'persuade my 14-year-old daughter to kill my wife for me'. because it's a well known ruse and it's worked so often in the past. Aye, right.
Life imprisonment may seem harsh but she shot her own mother in the face not once, not twice, but three times. She wanted to make sure she was dead. All because she didn't want to be caught for having a pen. That's evil, man. She killed her mother to avoid an uncomfortable conversation and then tried to kill her step dad. Miss me with "oh but she's just a kid." She's 15. 14 at the time. More than old enough to know murder is wrong.
She's 14. On heavy medication she most likely shouldn't have been taking.. I'm so tired of how quick people condemn children. It's heartbreaking and I would bet my paycheck she will regret this and live with that pain. As a mother.. she should have been a bit more aware of her child's issues. No child should EVER be charged as an adult.
@sumrose7972 Are you actually suggesting that, generally, regret is punishment enough for murder? Because it seems like you are? This is disgustingly offence to victims and their families. You should be ashamed of yourself.
These are the same people that if a 20 year old man wants to marry a 16 will call him a p word cause she's just an innocent child. But also a 16 can be arrested for life 4 1 count of unaliving someone. Perfect consistency
Anti depressants, teenage girl, abuse of weed, cdc and alcohol. Bad mix all together. She was already in a dark place. All that added stuff just brought it out. I think justice is served. If she had any type of remorse, she would have taken the plead deal.
@SpaceCookiezz246 even though cannabis does not enduse aggression. My point is she was already on other crap. Cannabis never killed someone but let a crazy pchyco smoke the wrong trend and things can go left.
I dunno why, but this episode just seems so much more tragic than most I've seen on this channel. Every element of this story was so extreme! The way she just instantly decided to murder her entire family over something as minor as vapes and completely ruin the rest of her life, all at just 14 years old, completely blows my mind 🤯😥
No one wants to discuss the fact she had switched meds. There are to many cases of people going into psychotic episodes.. if this doesn't just scream that, then I don't know what does. She will grow up, her brain will most likely heal and she will regret what has happened. This is not a bad child.. it is a very upsetting situation and it's heartbreaking.
I wish there had been a sentence with possibility of parole in case help plus the passage of time made her safe for release. A lot of teens are messed up and have dark thoughts, and thank God that most don't act on them. But there's a huge difference between the mind of a 14 yr old and that of a 54 yr old. Zero possibility of parole seems excessive when it might not be needed and would just cost the state money.
@@sumrose7972 I was wondering too if that the switching of meds played a roll in her actions. I know the jury must have considered that exact thing as well and still concluded her to be guilty. A very sad and tragic case for all involved.
Poor babies. They didn't know what to do. I know they wanted to help but everything going on confused the poor dogs. Both those dogs are probably going to be permanently traumatized 😢
I also hope she's getting the mental health care she needs. But I think she needs to be kept out of society regardless of whatever therapy she receives.
I agree. She is better suited for a monitored environment, where she can work and even get a degree. She didn't seem antagonistic at all while in the court, so, with work, the penitentiary system may at least turn her into a model prisoner. It may not be an ideal lifestyle, but it's probably working to her best interest. I don't think she'd manage to adjust back to a civilian life, with her teenage mind still trapped in an adult body.
I don't believe in life sentences for children. Their brains are still developing, and I do believe that there's a chance at rehabilitation. I think turning down the plea deal was a very bad decision on her and the defense team's part.
@minka1781 no, it wasn't. She'd been talking about it and hyping her self up for it. She just waited for something to trigger her (mom searching room) and did what she wanted.
Out of everything that has happened so far in this video, it’s the dispatcher calling poor ol’ Heath “Ma’am”, after taking hot lead to the shoulder, that made me pause to comment. Mortal sin 😂

It has been already documented how people are turning into cold blooded killers under these psychotropic drugs, and once they are off them, they remember what they did, like they were watching a horror movie. People can't fathom that humans are chemical machines and how much power drugs have over us. But imagine what would happen to those who would have a proof against these big pharma execs. @limeadel303 how do you feel about the friend BW? She could have called 911 when she was in the backyard, warned the step father before he went inside. But she did nothing then ran away at the end. I don't really buy being a scared kid either, at 15 you know better.
@ I wasn’t rlly talking about that person. Although we should keep in mind they were just told by her friend she shot her mother with a gun so they definitely could’ve felt threatened, not saying that completely excuses it that’s up for you to decide.. but regardless it traumatized them 100%
@limeadel303 oh yeah, she's traumatized for sure. I wasn't trying to be antagonistic if that's how I came off, it's just the whole time the story was going on while she was waiting in the backyard I kept asking myself "is she gonna do ANYTHING?"
How do you know that? How do y’all wish this negativity on people? Maybe they know they did all they can and are over it. Y’all just love saying the word “trauma”.
@ 💀 usually when u reach out to help to a friends mom only for that friend to promptly kill them and text you… you’d be a bit traumatized, regardless of the view point. it’s sympathy
Dear God, Mike! This one really got me. Watching her in her house, killing her own mother…and those poor doggies! Horrific. Heath was so emotional, and I believe some part of him still loved Carly. I hope he finds some peace in his heart. I agree with you that Carly needs help. My God, 14! As a mother myself, it’s hard to believe a child is evil to the core, but I really don’t know what to think about her. Scary. And sad. Thank you for another amazing story!❤
@@Acr6gAttt-mq2hr Actually, children are not made that way. They choose that way through emotional changes in the brain beginning in their early teens. The triggers do come from the family: Unlocked guns, drug use, lack of close interaction with parent and child talks. The triggers also come from: Peer pressure, and the peer's own personal troubles. Furthermore, society also triggers youth through lifestyle actions, displaying their actions through the media to gain popularity, crime, drugs, stealing dreams of having their whole life made into "The Rich and Famous." So no, they are not made that way, assuming you speak only about bad parents. They absorb their surroundings and act impulsively. I call it the "Teen Moments of Terror." This is just my opinion and not to upset you.
I came from a far more underprivileged life. I was very angry, very confused, lost and hurt as a teen. Had no medication to help me until I was THIRTY. I had access to firearms. BUT - I never tried to kill my abusers who were ACTUALLY abusing and harming me. All I could do was survive. 45 years later, my life is vastly improved. Medication, HARD work in therapy, and loving, dedicated people around me (who would help me bury a body if I asked 😂), all have helped. I'm not fully well, but I ain't offed anyone. ❤
Yep, poor her, she had a mother and step-father who cared enough to try to keep her on the right path and took her to therapy when they thought she might need it. There are literally millions of kids who have had to deal with far, far tougher upbringings....she is just immature and evil, but something in people just don't want to believe that.
I relate. I didn't have access to firearms but honestly sometimes I'm surprised I'm even still here. I would never have considered hurting someone else.
True, but it just speaks for the amount of stres he endured.... Unimaginable....your wife texts you to come home and what awaits him, her dead body and a stepdaughter shooting at him...He definitely didnt see that coming out of the track. Poor man
I'm sure he tried but it seems like in her mind even now it wasn't that big a deal so no long sentence for her or someone (attorney or someone else) may have led her to believe since she was 14 she'd get off lightly.
It's the left that thinks all the things like "I'm a white girl I'll be fine" and she pressed her luck, being so sure about what she's fed by MSM. Unfortunately for her, she....is a they......so no sympathy for them 😂😂😂😂 only women.
This mentality is what I love about Mike too, and it's nice to see other people like that in the comments section as well. It's always nice to leave a heartbreaking video with a reminder of how many great loving people there are in the world, obtained from the comments section. 🙂
I don't agree with giving adult sentences to children regardless of the crime. At 14, there is no way you could fully comprehend the gravity and permanency of your actions. A child that can do this, particularly with a history of mental health issues and substance abuse, is not really in their right mind. It's just that she turned it outwards when so many kids like this turn it onto themselves.
Thank you for not playing the sound of it. I watched a video about this right after it happened where they had no warning on it and played it in full and it is incredibly upsetting.
She was stone faced till accountability came knocking and she realized she wasn't gonna walk away. Glad the Jury wasn't hustled by the mental health excuse.
Mental health is no fake excuse, there have been studies on teen killers and many were found to be on psych drugs. These are very powerful drugs and can 100% affect behavior.
That's typical here in Mississippi....we don't fall in to that BS when it's used as it was here. We can see through the BS most of the time. She did have mental health issues BUT she killed her mama in cold blood CONCIOUSLY....NOTHING to do with the mental health issues The song 'Try that in a small town' has the truest lyrics probably ever written
@920WASHBURN not cold but cold hard facts...too many killers walk away because of the fake insanity plea. It's too easy to tell if someone is truly insane or just faking it to get out of consequences
@Mrs.Garcia_88 no I get it, but that's a 14 year old girl. No empathy? 14 year olds don't go around killing their parents. There seems to be something wrong with the girl and I feel just as bad for her as I do the parents
Agree. I know people with depression, anxiety and I've got a friend who has bipolar disorder. They have never hurt anyone. There was a therapist recently who said that many of the people today who show up claiming to have certain mental illnesses at his office are often self-diagnosed via the internet. I've seen a lot of it on Reddit, people claiming to have mental illnesses because they've been told by others online or self-diagnosed themselves. Those who do have a legitimate illness, the majority are not dangerous and rarely hurt people. It is strange that many who self-diagnose seem to be far more dangerous than those with an actual illness, as though they've radicalized themselves into believing it because of social media.
I'll agree with you to a point but my personal belief is that SSRI's are causing most of these trends in kids. Most if not all of kids doing horrible things were taking them, and as a guy who was given them for depression in my high school years they can make you dissociate from your emotions and make you feel numb about very serious things, my mom had been diagnosed with cancer and my best friend at the time died in a house fire and it didn't affect me while I was on them and the realization of what was going on only happened after I stopped taking them and even to this day I don't feel my emotions the same way. All I'm saying is everyone's chemistry is different and we don't really know how the brain exactly works with each person let alone how a chemical is going to have an effect on a person especially kids, in my opinion kids who are going through issues don't need pills they need people to talk to who can help them understand there emotions and learn how to control them instead of being given a pill that make them numb.
This comment is ignorant from any perspective. Call it evil, call it mental health, the consequences to the victim and the perpetrator are the same regardless.
The step dads behaviour during the trial isn't that weird of me. I've heard of cases before where a child murders their family except 1 parent survives, and that parent continues to try and keep a connection with them. To these people, I believe that in spite of what they did, it's their only family left now, and they serve as their only connection to them. It's sad, but it's probably also a way for them to cope with such a tragedy.
As a father and step-father I don't know how I would react in this situation but I don't think it would be strange if I still loved and cared for my kids\step-kids. As a parent you want the best for your kids and even after they do something like this that just doesn't end. My guess is the man feels like he failed as a step-father.
I agree! Once you take a child into your heart its hard to stop loving them even if they do something terrible. If my son tried to kill me id still worry about his safety and comfort in jail
It's not even his daughter tho , just by marriage which makes it even weirder. I don't think he had anything to do with the murder but that's not even his flesh and blood that murdered his wife and tried to kill him
@@VaunShiz I'm a step father to two boys and a father to two boys and I don't treat them any different. In fact my olderest step-son and I have a closer relationship than I have with my oldest son. I too went to school where my mom taught. However she made it clear to the rest of the faculty that attempting to talk to her about my behavior while she was on school grounds wasn't going to happen. Didn't matter what kind of trouble I got into, if they wanted to talk to her about me they had to do it off the clock.
I was on a cocktail of different medications for attention span etc in high school and they made me feel crazy but i never wanted to hurt anyone like that
Yeah I’ve been on a whole mix of different mental health medications throughout the years and never been violent either but it is a fact that in certain people these medications can cause suicidal and violent behaviours. No idea if that’s the case here tho.

I did a short period on anti depressants and it actually made me a lot worse, everyone reacts different to meds so I could see it making some people kill
I know this doesn’t have much to do with the case, but in the beginning of the video mike mentioned that the victims brother died of spinal muscular atrophy as an infant. SMA is a genetic disease that has been a death sentence for children for as long as we can remember. However, there is good news. It is now treatable when diagnosed early. I know about it because my son was diagnosed with it at birth. Most states now test for it automatically when a baby is born, but that wasn’t the case for my state until 2018, just in time for my son’s birth. I thank god every day that we were able to get treatment and he is living a normal life. Please, if you are not aware of SMA or live in a state or country that doesn’t test for it on newborns, do your research and tell friends and family about it. Countless children have been lost to it in history and it is now treatable.

I have anxiety and depression and have had since youth. Hundreds of thousands of people in the US have those problems and they never pick up a gun and kill someone
I cheered when the prosecutor said what she said at 23:30 I am so over people using depression and/or anxiety to explain violence. They are both negatively correlated. That requires people be correctly diagnosed with whatever actual illnesses or personality disorders they have, and that often will not happen in these kind of people.
I bet she thought about the deal they offered her that she refused. Scary how you can live with someone and not be aware of their evil plan to kill you. It’s even more tragic that it was her own daughter. She was only upset that she was caught and found guilty.
well it’s tragic that she is so young but many of us came from very difficult situations and would never ever dream of murdering anyone let alone our dysfunctional parents
There are literally millions of kids in far worse situations than she was, poor her, she had a mother and step-father who cared about her enough to try to keep her on the right path and took her to therapy when they thought she may need it, boohoo.
I empathize on some level, because I also had a really hard time growing up, especially at 14. My mom did a lot of the same things: snooping, invading privacy, screaming instead of communicating, putting me down when she was angry, etc. Plus, keeping loaded firearms in easy reach of your kid like that is like, *_objectively_* bad parenting. But like you said, I never dreamed of doing what she did. I wanted to do it to myself, not to my mother.
But she didn't come from a really bad life, she had a loving home, loving family, excellent grades, a bright mind and a future. This wasn't the Manson family raising her, it's Beaver Cleaver, she's evil and I hope she rots in hell
@@WobblesandBean”snooping” at her daughter when she had reason to believe she was taking drugs is objectively the right thing to do. She was 14, not an adult. She doesn’t have a right to party and do drugs. Some people really turn on their parents over the most petty sht.
@@SocialExperiment232 Confronting the teenager is the right thing to do, snooping is not. Raising a kid requires trust and honesty, not deceipt - I'd argue the latter is objectively bad parenting that will drive your kids to leave you to die alone in your old age. Best case scenario, you're teaching your child to be devious, and anecdotal as it might be the highest achieving and most balanced people I grew up with were the ones whose parents treated them on the level, not as subservients. Letting them understand that you know what they're doing, and telling them explicitly that you will be searching the part of your home that they have the audacity to call theirs, and doing it all in front of them - giving them the opportunity to come clean right until the last - is the right thing to do. Let me be clear: Only one person carries the blame here and that's Carly, but had mum insisted that Carly be present for the search of her room then the opportunity to think up a way out would not have even been on the table. Ask yourself this: What do you think should happen to someone you deem a traitor to your nation, your family, to you? A normal teenager, with their lack of experience and absolutely batshit brain chemistry, will often view these things as treachery and this is what happens when that illogic is taken to the most extreme.
The dogs! Omg! Watching the video and seeing their reactions (especially the white one) broke me. They must’ve been so scared and confused. I feel for the mom, the dad, the dogs… and if I’m being honest, a little for Carly too.
Same on all your points. This was such a horrible case. I'm sure her mother did the best she could for her, like most of the parents that end up in the same situation. Sad all the way around.

It's so tragic these stories around young adults, they can't see how this is just a moment, they forget that it's just the beginning and they have their whole lives ahead of them. And now it's just a wrap now you going to live your life in prison. 😢
@@nhmooytis7058There seems to be more and more American psychos emerging. When I watched the Laken Riley trial a lot of commenters wanted to make it political, which offended her family. While I agree we do need to protect our homeland, we need to figure out why the US has always had the most monsters in history. They come from all backgrounds so it’s baffling to say the least. I used to think it was because of an abusive upbringing and poverty, but then you have cases like this one and Joel Guy Jr, Taylor Schabusiness, Chandler Halderson, Chris Watts and Wade Wilson that make you wonder if some people are just born evil. There’s one thing they all have in common and that’s selfishness, narcissism and entitlement to the core. The scariest thing to me is that oftentimes there is no indication of what a person is going to do. Even when there’s no premeditation, a person can just snap. This is supposed to be the greatest country, but it’s a lie. Our country is ill and we need to focus on why that is, healing and prevention.
There is a reason that children are not allowed to sign a damn phone contract. It's one of the things that baffles me most about the US: A young person cannot buy a beer until they are 21, but you join the army, get married and have a gun so much younger. I am baffled by the how many children get tried as adults in the US as well, it's really difficult to assess a person's ability to consider all the elements for one choice. Proof of this is if you ask a lot of people what they would do with a lottery win and they list of all the things they will buy, but not a single consideration of the taxes, insurance and upkeep of those items.
My god, if you own a firearm your child should not know where or be able to access that weapon. You can say “oh they’d never do anything” but too many times kids and teens going through something end up doing horrible things just because they have easy access to their parents firearms. And how tf did she buy a burner phone?!? Just such an avoidable tragedy.
I have to disagree with you, knowing where the firearm that my father had had saved my life when I was around seven and again when I was fourteen😅 special circumstances for special people I guess
I think the burner phone isn't the biggest issue but instead her being able to get a hold of so many weed vapes is. It is not illegal to sell burner phones to minors so they would be easy to obtain but it is illegal to sell them drugs
That poor BW... once she's able to recognize what she participated in, she'll be traumatized for the rest of her life. Poor Carley. She's completely aware of what she did. Her child mind is no match for her adult mind, loaded with detail and revelation of what she truly did. She has no idea. It's not insanity. It's just young, dumb, selfish and invincible.
Yes,she needs help. However psychopaths can rarely be rehabilitated. And she does not need or deserve a second chance or freedom. When people show you who they are, believe them. When did she cry at the trial? When she realized she was being held accountable for her heinous crimes. Poor me.
If she got tattoos and nipple rings at the age of 14, I'd be seeking charges against the tattoo parlor and the person(s) who did it. What they did was a crime and added to the girl's problem. She thought she could do what ever she wants and get away with it. They should be charged with child sexual abuse and sent to prison.
This is a crazy ass story. I didn’t see any of that coming and I’ve never heard of this story. I’m speechless. A 357 magnum will like tear an arm off. She shot her mom in the head THREE TIMES? I can’t imagine what that looks like. And she was so calm..

I know from personal experience how switching meds can truly mess with your mind... literally thinking things you'd never think if those substances didn't touch your brain ... it's so important that we have doctors who are truly dedicated to monitoring those of us who require medications for mental health ... with all that said, it's clear she still knew what she was doing, but it's very likely those new meds made it okay in her mind to go through with it.
14 year old kids shouldn't be on those kind of meds, period. Her brain is not even fully developed yet. Should be criminal charge for doctors handing it out like candy. I never had the time to pay attention to this case when it happened. Thank you, Mike, for telling this tragic story so well. Appreciate you! May Ashley Rest in Peace.
The second he said her parents put her on happy pills I can tell you that was a huge part of the problem! Commonly referred to as SSRI's , every single school shooting that has occurred in the United States the shooters were all on SSRI's for all kinds of issues from depression ADHD etc. people stop giving pills to your children find alternative ways to help them!
Giving your kid a smartphone and smartTV in their bedroom is a sure way to speed up depression/anxiety/social personality issues. I feel lucky that when i grew up all we had was music and books and playing outside to improve our mood.
Who would have ever thought giving a 4-year-old a cell phone and access to social media would be a bad idea? Remember, the original lie the phone makers told us all: "It's for safety" Talk about irony.
Something was VERY wrong with Carly, and there were multiple warning signs: A family history of mental illness: Several serious traumatic childhood events: Substance abuse (which can have extremely damaging effects on adolescent minds): Drastic behaviour. personality and mood changes: A recent switch in medication. I get that the mother was afraid of her ex, but keeping a loaded 357 Magnum outside of a safe... in a household where all of the above is happening to a young teenager? I'm not saying it's deserving of such a terrible fate, but that doesn't mean it wasn't negligent. Tragically so. The kid will not get "help" in prison; that's not what jail is for. If she had been deemed not criminally responsible due to insanity, yes, she would probably get the help she needs. But she's going to be in jail for the rest of her life; that is punishment, not treatment (mental health services are terrible in prisons). This whole thing is one tragedy folding onto another, onto another. What a sad story.
You really think you nailed it huh? You're more pissed about the gun than you are the kid ,,,obviously if there was a mental defect it didn't override the self preservation that is always present in those insane even temporarily,,they got 1rst degree because it was premeditated even if just right before the crime ,,and definitely after with the attempted murder of the step father ,,,so ho ahead pick a mental disorder ,,hell you would have been better off to argue nature versus nuture but nuture doesn't look like was an issue in this one that just leaves Nature and that means she's right where she belongs !!
Is this your first time here??? 😂 This place is nothing but horrible people doing horrible things presented by a lovely gentleman named Mike. Matricide isn't anything new for the channel.
Think of it as the side effects of brain altering chemicals on an impressionable mind and it's a bit easier to understand. Then couple that with a firearm and this is what happens. Such tragedy.
We're finally starting to see irresponsible parents being held accountable criminally when they provide firearms or access to firearms to minors who then go in murder people. I do not know if that will encourage people to do what they should already be doing which is locking their weapons up in a gun safe, when the weapon is not actually on your person or with you where you're at. While I am in favor of common sense gun control, I also believe it is your second amendment right to own and even carry a firearm. The problem is if a community tries to make it illegal or crime to leave your weapons where a minor can access them, the gun lobby will oppose it. Not because it's a bad law but because it consider giving any inch a slippery slope. Which we all know by now is absurd. How many thousands of mass shootings have we had no one's gonna take your guns. Can't even regulate bump stocks After somebody use that to turn his semi autos into essentially full auto. How does society tolerate our representatives millions from the gun lobby and then squash even the most basic common sense gun control

Thank God, there were cameras in the house because the husband would have been suspect number one. No one would have ever believed a teenage girl would have shot her mother in the face. Trying to charge the husband for tampering with evidence tells me they wanted an excuse to arrest this man because they believe he had something to do with it. Stay safe and buy cameras for your home
They wanted to charge this man because they thought he might try to cover-up for his step-daughter and from seeing his actions at trial they were right, he would have. The 'ole burglar did it.

Just finished watching, and I had approached with trepidation. I really like Mike and That Chapter but I have stopped watching a few RUclipsrs whose coverage of her case rankled me. Mike, man, thanks for treating the kid compassionately. No one else I've watched ever said she needed help. You did. Love ya, Bud.
Everyone knows she needs help but her anxiety and depression did not lend itself to making her more violent, murderous, psychopathic and evil, if it did there would be a hell of a lot more people dead out here. Compassion is one thing but blindly sticking your head in the sand to what/who she actually is is just ridiculous as well.
Ive heard of 16 and 17 year olds being charged as adults. Which has always made me wonder- if they can do that, why bother having a distinction between being charged as a child or an adult in the first place? But she was 13. What possible justification can you have to charge a thirteen year old as an adult?! If a thirteen year old can be tried as an adult, why do 16 and 17 year olds EVER get tried as children? The lack of consistency is utterly infuriating.
This is a case of first-degree murder. It's a very serious crime and if this wasn't heavily punished imagine with how much really disturbed teenagers could get away with. I'd guess the distinction between child or adult is mainly for some misdemeanour charges where they can afford to let a teenager ''off the hook'.
@@kingoana At what age does that change I wonder? I get the logic behind it but, if a 9 or 7 year old were to do that, would they still be tried as an adult? Checking out the wiki list of the youngest murders, the punishment they receive is all over the place.

I'd seen a video on this last month. It showed that as Carly sat in the kitchen texting, her mother slowly dying yelled out "help me" and Carly yelled out "NO!" Mom suffered while this callous child plotted her step-dad's murder!
Even creepier than that, she actually sang it. She sang it like "NooooOOOOO, NnoooOOOoooOOOoooOOO"

Aye, right.
I like that you are going back to old school way of filming. Black screen in the back, the intro. Perfect.
It’s not harsh at all, she should of got the D penalty
Hope she has a horrible time in jail. Can't imagine what her Mother went thru.
@sumrose7972
Are you actually suggesting that, generally, regret is punishment enough for murder?
THC and CBD dont cause somebody to act this way. Alcohol and mental health issues do.
Sociopathy and psychopathy constitute as mental health disorders, either or is responsible for this girl commiting such heinous crimes
I agree, just creepy and Out of the Blue
Mom should have stayed out of her room. Dumb woman

I wonder if mixing her meds with weed wasn't the reason why she changed and became murderer.

Dear God, Mike! This one really got me. Watching her in her house, killing her own mother…and those poor doggies! Horrific. Heath was so emotional, and I believe some part of him still loved Carly. I hope he finds some peace in his heart. I agree with you that Carly needs help. My God, 14! There are 100% children out there that are evil to the core
Children aren't born that way, they're made that way. Also seems she and the stepdad were in a relationship
@@Acr6gAttt-mq2hr 100% unsubstantiated misinformation. Please show us the evidence to support your absurd accusations.
Furthermore, society also triggers youth through lifestyle actions, displaying their actions through the media to gain popularity, crime, drugs, stealing dreams of having their whole life made into "The Rich and Famous."
So no, they are not made that way, assuming you speak only about bad parents. They absorb their surroundings and act impulsively. I call it the "Teen Moments of Terror."
This is just my opinion and not to upset you.
@@Acr6gAttt-mq2hrwhat makes you say that…?

I'm sure he tried but it seems like in her mind even now it wasn't that big a deal so no long sentence for her or someone (attorney or someone else) may have led her to believe since she was 14 she'd get off lightly.
She thought she'd get away with it because of the stepdads support.

Mental health is no fake excuse, there have been studies on teen killers and many were found to be on psych drugs. These are very powerful drugs and can 100% affect behavior.
Damn thats cold😅
That's typical here in Mississippi....we don't fall in to that BS when it's used as it was here. We can see through the BS most of the time. She did have mental health issues BUT she killed her mama in cold blood CONCIOUSLY....NOTHING to do with the mental health issues
The song 'Try that in a small town' has the truest lyrics probably ever written
@920WASHBURN not cold but cold hard facts...too many killers walk away because of the fake insanity plea. It's too easy to tell if someone is truly insane or just faking it to get out of consequences
@Mrs.Garcia_88 no I get it, but that's a 14 year old girl. No empathy? 14 year olds don't go around killing their parents. There seems to be something wrong with the girl and I feel just as bad for her as I do the parents
This modern trend to blame evil doing on "mental health issues" is as pathetic as it's infuriating.
There's no such thing as evil, it's a religious concept and has no place in a secular society that does not operate based on dogma and superstition.
Clearly something isn't right in a 14yo mind to do something like this. Call it insanity, drug influence or bad upbringing, but something isn't right.

I agree

Saw this case a couple months ago and I’m glad you covered it. Carly is evil, the murder and the text to her stepdad showed just how much.
Evil? She clearly has a mental illness and needs help.
@@andyhayward1261I had a bad reaction to a medication and ended up hurting myself. Never homicidal thoughts though. Just a general numbness that made you cut to feel anything. Lol. Oddly enough I told my psych about cutting myself with this new medication and her suggestion was "have you tried cutting it in half".. like nah, bitch, I tried throwing it out and it worked great.
Everybody's brain is different.

I'm glad your son is okay. ❤

But if you’re even 1% more likely to be violent on SSRIs that would lead to thousands more violent incidents.
Some might though
Yes they do?? Stop this nonsense this is America shootings happen every 15 minutes 😂

Sometimes people make a one time error of judgment and can be rehabilitated but sometimes a person is a psychopath or sociopath and can’t.

Giving your kid a smartphone and smartTV in their bedroom is a sure way to speed up depression/anxiety/social personality issues.
I feel lucky that when i grew up all we had was music and books and playing outside to improve our mood.
Same here.
And pharmaceuticals
It was antidepressant-induced activation, IMO.
Well put. I completely agree with everything you said.
Agreed
@@lukeg3108 I think so as well.
How can she do this to her own mother?! 😡
Is this your first time here??? 😂 This place is nothing but horrible people doing horrible things presented by a lovely gentleman named Mike. Matricide isn't anything new for the channel.
Big pharma drugs.
Think of it as the side effects of brain altering chemicals on an impressionable mind and it's a bit easier to understand. Then couple that with a firearm and this is what happens. Such tragedy.
@@ninjar43a 15 year old smoking weed doesn’t drive them to murder. This is a result of mental illness.
Psychopath.
Life sentence at 15 IS WILD. I cant believe...what a wasted life
Come on! Don't leave guns where children can access them! 😡
These are the same people that go through the drive thru and complain when their order is wrong AND keep doing it.

I used to watch your videos and wonder why you didn't have over a million subscribers yet. I'm so happy to see you at over 2 million now! You deserve it, Mike! Hands down my favorite creator!
I don’t feel sorry for 14 year old Carly, but I feel sorry for 30, 40, 50 year old Carly. Her 14 year old self destroyed the rest of her life. That sucks.
@ he immediately told the 911 dispatcher that his daughter tried to shoot him. He supported his daughter, but I don’t believe he was going to pull a Susan Smith. 🤷🏻♀️
Why would he turn in a camera they didn't know about showing her crimes if he wanted to cover for her? Trying using your brain.
@ you need Jesus, young lady, and you need to learn to be polite and kind.
You’re a wimp
@@_Y.Not_ Sudden medicatoin changes absolutely can cause psychosis especially in the first few days, which is exactly what happened here.
I just can't believe she was tried as an adult. If the crime in question was the stepdad having sex with her, she would be considered a child.
Depends on the seriousness of the crime, obviously. She was 14, do you seriously think a 14 year old doesn't know its wrong to shoot your mother in the face 3x??
@@AliceTokkionce they hit puberty they shouldn't be considered just kids anymore. They are aware of right and wrong and the laws may differ here and there, but teenagers pretty much know what killing someone is.
@@AliceTokki It typically depends on the state, severity of the crime, criminal history, and other factors... Most states would not have a 7 or 9 year old be charged as an adult. Most states aren't going to start charging as an adult until 14 or 15, except in the case of the most serious crimes or crimes that make national news.
Call me weird but that footage of the step dad and her smiling at each other in court gave me a chill. Something ain’t right…
Very American story - medicated kid, poorly treated mental illness, an unlocked gun… life in prison for 14 year old.
Yep
Just when I’m after something to watch, That Chapter comes along. Thanks Mike!
Thanks Lara! See you Friday with the next one!

Crying with no tears is normal when you have depression. The statement doesnt do anything but confirm that she had a mental illness. Though regardless of that what she did is horrible and she doesnt get sympathy from me

27:16 In my opinion that is just inappropriate. A 14yr olds brain isn’t even fully developed. To sentence a ‘child’ to life in prison is deplorable. How can a missing 14 yr old be a ‘child’ yet a 14 yr old that commits a crime be an ‘adult.’ We are the only country that does it.
