In the 2007 national championship game between the Florida Gators and Ohio State he made the statement that Florida shouldn’t even be in the game and that Ohio was going to put up 300 yards passing on Florida. Florida beat Ohio 41 to 14 for the national title and Ohio only put up about 80 yards passing. Did my heart some good.
Actually that year almost EVERY analyst thought Florida shouldn't have been in the game.....wasnt just Herbie. If I remember right all of the analysts predicted OSU to win by 13+.
I was at that game and being from West Virginia it’s amazing how cocky and arrogant the Clemson fans were and how quiet and dumbfounded they were the entire game and the coolest part was meeting a couple blokes from Australia that were diehard mountaineer fans hell they even had tattoos of our mascot and said we’d be surprised how popular our football team was over there very cool and the Aussie guys were amazing cool people

when i was in college (2000 - 2004), my roommate and i used to bet on some games with a bookie on campus. one of our criteria was: "what did herbstreit pick? let's do the opposite." we did pretty well.
I don't usually waste my money on T-shirts. But when I do I buy WV destroyed opponent T-shirts. I remember this game vividly because right after the 3rd quarter all of the "majority" of Clemson "fans" began moving towards the exits, to beat the traffic of course. It was pure, unadulterated destruction and well worth it.

I’m from Southern Ohio and Ohio University, Ohio State, and West Virginia are my 3 favorite college teams, in that order. I also like Marshall from Huntington because my Uncle graduated from Marshall.

As a lifelong Clemson fan this game was hard to watch. But this game helped Clemson make some major changes that helped turn the program in the right direction. I wouldn’t change anything in the seasons after this.

He’s just not any good. Dana was finding junior college players and turning them into NFL draft picks. How many players has Brown got to the NFL? I’m hoping Brown can turn things around and have his first really solid season as head coach this year, but we have a very tough schedule. I want Brown to succeed, but it’s year 5, it’s now or never. We’re way past the point where we can blame Brown’s failures on Dana Holgerson, which is ridiculous in the first place.

Since this game WVU and clemson have gone in drastically different directions. As a clemson fan, I hated when it happened but now, i can thank WVU for coach Brent Venables and the incredible run we went on 🤝🏻 also, it was a touchdown not a fumble 👌🏼
Look at the Americas Vote though....of those that voted almost 75% predicted Clemson as well and if you factor in those that didn't vote that year it probably would have been closer to 85% for Clemson to win so it wasn't just Herbie. Oh and they all thought Clemson would handily beat WVU. WVU just happened to have their best game that year against Clemson and Clemson their worse. Clemson that year beat #11 Florida State than #11 Virginia Tech the next week, and Virginia Tech again when they were ranked #5 in the ACC Championship West Virginia beat absolutely nobody that year and got blown out by LSU.

I thought it was cute when the Mountaineers tried to turn 3d and 10 into 3d and 5 simply by lining up in the wrong spot against Penn State. Also cute was keeping your coaches on the field while the play clock was running, forcing a Penn State time out. Smashing our defenseless punt returner and horse collaring on every tackle was also adorable. Great program.

You must've been born after the 2000's.. West Virginia also beat Georgia in the 2006 Sugar bowl, and beat Oklahoma in the 2008 fiesta bowl a few years earlier, so no this wasn't "West Virginia's everything"
