I decided to mix things up this week with a shorter look at a specific group within the Militarum. Next week looking to get a full breakdown of some Heavy Astartes gear that I've not returned to for a while also. Please do LIKE the video and help me appease ALGO
This was literally me, I have no idea how I even stumbled down this rabbit hole but Luetin got me hooked with lore. I have no interest in the game still but, I can highly recommend the books, I am currently working by through the Horus heresy series and I am now hooked on this universe
Don't let people tell you that you NEED to do anything regarding 40k- reading or painting or playing. Most of the time, its people who are the deepest in that are the most wrong about certain things.
I used to read 40k and collect the figures, but now I just listen to the lore on youtube (mainly Leutin). It has got so expensive to even begin again on the TT game. I remember getting a starting pack for a tenner at my local GW shop (now shutdown), it had about 40 pieces of Space Marines, a edition book and a free novel that was "new at the time" (Ignorant Armies). So if your into reading, I would start there as that got me hooked through the nineties. Although now I cannot really read anymore (eyes). And I can't get into audiobooks. But leutin should definitely get paid to read 40k books, then I could listen to them.
Back from the hospital, 23:10, delivery guy right on time with a fresh hot meal, sitting alone, Luetin provides company again, life's a tad more bearable. Luetin provides.
To answer you guys, I have early onset schizophrenia, but on the bright side, I have people that can and want to take care of me! Thanks for the kind words!!
As much as i enjoy stories about powered armored trans-human Astartes , i always believed that the overarching story of humanity's fighting spirit is better represented by Astra Militarum
The stories of a Kasrkin deploying with Space Marines is some of the most fun stories to read. Space Marines know the Kasrkin are regular humans however those same humans are able to keep up with the Marines as well as the Marines not having to alter their tactics because the Kasrkin are strong enough to deploy Space Marine strategies. Getting Space Marine respect despite not undergoing the space marine operations, is awesome.
My band was all aboard, preparing weapons. So was Inquisitor General Neve and a six-man squad of Cadian Elite Shock, impassive troopers in winter camo armour, prepping matt-white lasrifles and stubbers in the crew-bay. ‘God-throne, they’re tough-ass bastards,’ Nayl muttered to me as I passed him coming out of the bay. ‘Impressed?’ ‘Scared is more like it. Regular Cadian is soldier enough for me. These are elite. The elite of the elite. The Kasrkin.’ ‘The what?’ It wasn’t like an experienced fighter to show deference to other fighting men. ‘The Kasrkin. The Cadian best, and you can imagine what that means. Holy Terra, they’re stone-killers!' Echbar and his Kasrkin charged in past us to engage. In truth, I may say now that they were somehow more terrifying than the daemonhost. For Prophaniti was a supernatural thing, and one expected it to be horrifying. The Kasrkin were just men. It made their actions all the more astonishing. Six white blurs, they fell upon the cultists, lasguns barking at close range. They wasted no shots. One shot, one kill. The next few seconds are burned in my memory. I will never see such heroism again, I am sure. Captain Echbar and two of his Kasrkin troopers assaulted Prophaniti from the rear. Their lasguns wouldn’t fire because Bequin and I were in their range-field. Echbar body-tackled the daemonhost, smashing it away from us. Prophaniti hurled him aside, and then incinerated the second Kasrkin mid-leap with its eyes. The third jammed his Cadian bayonet up to the hilt in Prophaniti’s breastbone. Fire exploded back from the wound, down the trooper’s arm and engulfed him. He fell back screaming as Echbar came in again, a ragged hole in his cheek and throat. His knife, clenched double-handed, split Prophaniti open down the back bone. The warp-energies that boiled out blew Echbar apart. Screaming, Prophaniti writhed away through the air. I knew it wasn’t dead. I knew it couldn’t really die. But the Cadian elite had given me an opening by sacrificing their lives. They had fallen in the service of the God-Emperor, which is what every Cadian is born to do.” Eisenhorn - Malleus (Dan Abnett)
I was about to comment about the very same incident, but you have this covered already. I read Eisenhorn a long time ago and this is the one scene where the Kaskrin sacrificed themselves has always stayed in my mind. Also this scene reminds me of a line Tenacious D song. “Be you angels?” And we said, “Nay, we are but men!”
It's cheesy and an equivalent to the orks "Waaaagh". But "Cadia stands" still makes me smile, the sheer spite and defiance could probably make Peter Turbo smile.
It's saturday. Hangover passed. Cleaned my hab, vox system, etcetera. just general militarum duties. Currently, in warp transit and luetin, provides. The god-emperor truly protects.
Fun fact: The Kasrkin name being derived from the local dialects word for fortress bears striking resemblance to the real life Spanish alcázar. They are castles (beautiful ones at that) built by the Islamic caliphates which ruled Spain until the Reconquista. The word for these castles in Arabic would be al-Qasr (Very similar to Kasr), from which the later Spanish word alcázar would be derived. No clue if this was an inspiration for the name but I thought it was a fun coincidence at least :)
Technically Kasr Kin means the kins of the Kasr from arabic Kasr meaning fortress. The fortresses of these soldiers are named Kasr. So, from arabic and english, it means the people from the fortresses.
"His buttons, forged of molten elves. His postcards, hammered out of Orc noserings. His laundry detergent, the powdered bones of left handed Tau children."
Hearing Luetin cover things from Winter Assault & Dark Crusade was really cool to see. Hearing names like Farseer Taldear, Lukas Alexander and especially Gorgutz brought a smile to my face 😅
I don't want to fall to sleep when I listen to you, your grey knights part 2 was a shining example of your incredible talent, second only to your early Emperor of Mankind videos. I'm a fan that luetin, the bringer of stories from across the cosmos that keeps you at the edge of your seat. Listening to him is a ritual, a ceremony, and never boring or sleep worthy because how could you miss out, how ?
Just wanna give thanks , to single handedly sparking my interest into war hammer . It’s been a few years now, but you’ve made me watch so much lore, buy so many games. So thank you for introducing and feeding newcomers like myself .
Luetin, thank you so much. Sleep squad and other memes aside, I respect your work so much. Regardless of how relaxing your voice is because of your naturally low variance and pitch and such, I really love how much research and intellectual honesty you give in each and every video it's absolutely astonishing. I've always been more of the feeling who prefers a good story over heavy research, but you combine both excellent research with a good story so thank you so much with marrying these two difficult things. You are a great RUclipsr and writer. So thank you so much.
I first heard reference to Kasrkin in Darktide? One of the Veteran characters says something about givin' em the ol' Kasrkin double-tap or something? 😆 Finally makes sense what he's referencing now 🙏 So much 40k lore to discover lol.
Love deep dives like this, I've stepped back from you tube in recent days, but I always check this channel. Keep up the good work lore master. Also I love dawn of war winter assault
Omg Im just about to start priming my first kasrkin squad. What a great timing luetin. I hope you release more astra militarum content in the future. Im going to love this one probably, thanks for your work. Love the new scale on the astra militarum models, and I love the way the kasrkin look the most. Painting my first squad but it wont be the last one I get
New to the Warhammer community and I must say I am loving every video you post. Currently trying to watch 'em all and catch up! Thank you for the great content!
Just got back from the hospital where I had a double brain transplant after falling and hitting my head while rescuing a bus load of children trapped at the top of Olympus Mons. Also just broke up with my supermodel gf. Sitting here convalescing being cooled by palm frond waving other supermodels while eating Dodo egg omelette and Leutin uploads. Thanks man I really needed it. 🙏.
Never thought I'd see the Dawn of War games being highlighted in a video talking about the Kasrkin of all topics. But damn if it didn't feel appropriate.
Since I'm listening to this while I am playing Space Marines 2, I can't help but think about how cool it would be if in one of the upcoming operations, the task is to go out and make contact with a Kasrkin unit that has ceased communication past the allotted time of vox silence, so you go out to find them, you succeed, and you assist in completing their mission, and then finally evac them, and yourself. That sounds like it could be an amazing operation if they decided to do something like that, especially if it was set on that jungle world. Of course this is entirely me just nerding out, so those that read this comment, do what you will with this
Unrelated side note can't remember which video it was but Every time you shout out the sleep squad in a vid I get so happy. Another great one loremaster
Ah, yes, Some minutes after one of my mates mentions Winter Assault durning the DOW play, Luetin drops the video, in which he speaks of Lorn V campaign. Coincidence, or perils of the warp?)
I've always had a certain attachment to the Kasrkin. Back in 2004, when I first got introduced to the game, my friend had a few sets of Kasrkin, but he had been buying several armies, and what Guard he had he decided not to add to, so he painted these black, and they became Inquisitorial Stormtroopers, for his Grey Knights, and Sisters of Battle, and I really liked them. Cadians have always been my favorite Guard regiment, and since 3rd/4th Ed Guard didn't have custom Senior Officer models, these were "elite" Cadians, and I was happy. Then someone remembered that Guard don't have elite, and other regiments, even as many disappeared, didn't have this equivalent, and they disappeared. Eventually, we got Mil Temp, to replace them, but be available to any regiment, and Veterans, orherwise, and now they're back!...but Cadia is gone. I accept that "the Cadian way" can be taught on other worlds, so while the purple eyes might fade, we'll always have the Cadians, but without Cadia to protect, I don't know if the Kasrkin will continue to exist, or if the Tempestus will just replace them, again? It's too bad, because I still love them, but the "second" Krieg unit is horses, and few to no one fields Rough Riders, to say nothing of actual Death Riders, and current Catachan don't even have a second, elite unit...or special weapons variety, so I do wonder, even with new models recently requisitioned, what the future holds for the defenders of a world that no longer exists?
I've been playing this guys in Kill Team for about a year, never knew too much about them besides the cadia stuff due to their narrative play. Cool to see them all fleshed out
Guard stories are the best! I've read most the heresy novels and dark Imperium etc but Gaunts' Ghosts has been up there just because of the baseline humans dealing with insane battles, and it's just super fun to see 40k through a normal human as apposed to an astartes, whome never appreciate where they are or how crazy the situation is.
This is my second time catching a Luetin video on release day. So exciting! I’ll find myself watching a “new” one only to see it’s 6 years old. So being here on the actual day is awesome.
I remember I wrote an edgy fanfic about these guys for my college class once when the professor said, "write a short story about anything." Damn that was like over a decade ago.
A topic for a video idea - who or what has the emporer been through the ages of man? For instance, we know there are hints that he was Alexander the Great, he was certainly an Argonaut, possibly Gilgamesh etc. I think exploring the emporers actions through history and how that relates to our reality is exciting. I like the idea of tying in real world legends and myths into the 40k universe and, in fact, find it an endearing part of the franchise. It is something I wish more lore tubers would dive into.
I wonder if GW or game stores see a noticeable uptick in model sales after videos like this come out. It really fills your head with awesome scenarios to use these soldiers for on the tabletop. Thank you Leutin09 for explaining just how indomitable the Kasrkin are! Now if you'll excuse me, I have to...erm...order some stuff.... =)
What’s also interesting is what makes them differ from Tempestus scions. Whilst scions fight with cold detachment and skilled drill for coordination. Kasrkin fight a lot more loosely encouraged to take initiative and build themeselves around flexibility
A digression, but your point about imperial propaganda at the 28:10 mark made me realize that Sly Marbo is most likely either a total fabrication or perhaps a team of elite Catachans who take on the name of Sly Marbo to fit said fabrication... or maybe he's one of those "retired" Custodes (I forget what they're called) pretending to be a particularly tall and badass Catachan, although that seems far less likely. If there is a "canon" answer to who Sly Marbo is, I am simply unaware of it.

No, it's the Guard, son 👴🏼
Astra Millawhat? You're in the Guard, son!
It's such a boomer thing to say, but yeah - it's still the Guard to us old folks :D
@@fleetwheelmac6978it’s still the Guard. The only reason for the fancy name is because GW couldn’t trademark “Imperial Guard”.

you keep referencing this alleged "destruction of cadia", yet i have it on good authority that caida stands.
As a person in a wheelchair, I can tell you cadia stands
I think, that reference might be theoretical concept.
I did not expect Dawn of War Winter Assault breakdown, definitely welcome though.
Literally was listening to that and I was like.... wait a second... this is dawn of war 😅
Just before this dropped, I came across a great joke. Guardsman: "Did you just throw sand at me?". Chaos Marine: "What? Don't you recognize Cadia?"
Rolling for emotional damage 😂
Not only did i sleep to this. I also listened to every word. This channel has largely forged my fandom.

Great video love the Kasarkin they are my favorite specialist guard element.
Yes, finally a mention for my favorite ork of all time. Gorgutz ead unter.
Every time he calls it Astra Militarum I am ready to shed a single tear of grief and clutch my 4th edition codex thinking about what once was!
Yey a new video from the lore master this is a great day!
Please do a video about the Dark King. Not because it's complicated, but because it's fascinating.
Dawn of War lore in a Luetin video. By the Emperor. Thank you.
Love the Guard and am always excited to see more about them!
Yeaaah!!! My boys get some love, finally
Love the imperial guard. Maybe an imperial guard organization video in the future? Great job!
Kasrkin my Beloved.
What’s also interesting is what makes them differ from Tempestus scions.
Whilst scions fight with cold detachment and skilled drill for coordination. Kasrkin fight a lot more loosely encouraged to take initiative and build themeselves around flexibility
Kasrkin would be space marines in many other sci fi settings.
The moment I realized Luetin was telling the story of the Winter Assault campaign ❤
“Kasrkin Squad, ready for war." "They will learn to fear me." "Strike true and strike with precision!" These guys were awesome in Dawn of War!
