Instead of using a map marker after clearing a sunken crypt in the swamp, melee attack the iron torches at the entrance to extinguish them and mark it as cleared. This can indicate to anyone else on your seed that the crypt has been cleared already.
Make a trip through the whole swamp with the key and unlock all of them while marking each on the map, then put the key back in central storage. Build a portal on top of the crypt if you need convenience and security. Inside, mark hallways you’ve already mined by discarding items you don’t want. Pile heavy stuff by the doorway so you can move more iron quickly in one run - and obviously buy the belt and headlamp before any of this. If you can get bits of new materials from harder biomes, strategize to do so early so you can skip tedious upgrades on weaker weapons and go straight to the efficient ones, which will save massive time on your current boss prep and reduce frustration from death risk. If you don’t mind the excitement, stick a bed and portal near the Plains then get full on meat and stamina mead and run naked through Fuling villages to steal their crops so you can make padded armor with iron and skip silver altogether, and hunt Lox to make a warm cape so you don’t need wolves in the Mountain... where you’ll want to shoot lots and lots and lots and lots of Drakes to make arrows to sneak-shoot the Fulings once you’ve maxed out the best bow in the game.
One thing I've realized is that raising the ground breaks the pathfinding of monsters. If the only way over your raised wall is a bridge, the enemies just will not be able to compute a path into your base. I figured that out trying to replicate an elevated gatehouse design.
Tip: Instead of naming your unconnected "home" portal, just leave the name blank, then when you're out exploring and put down a portal to quickly go home it will automatically connect because every new portal is also created without a name. I have another named portal in my base, and I name the permanent portals around my map, but when exploring I always leave my portal without a name for quicker access.
Especially useful when you're in one of those "OH SH*T! OH SH*T!" situations and don't want to remember the portal tag or typo it or something 😅 Also, if you want to leave the new portal there, just change the name tag and walk through the portal instantly (within 1-2seconds), it takes a little while for the new tag to register. So you can go to your home base and when you arrive there, the portal at the other end has the new tag.
O dang, I should have thought of that. So you can do that even if there’s no other terminal for the new name, and just add one from home to get back? That would save *_so_* much trouble.
Great for when you are going to die and you just throw a portal down while running loop back and jump through... none of this dying while labeling the portal Maclunkey
Deathsquito with bow.... man that was my first attempts. Today I just raise the shield and as soon as it absorbs the hit, I counter with whatever weapon I'm holding. Much more efficient
Once you get a good bow and get some skill with range/trajectory, you can use wood arrows to scour the area long before they even notice you. If they’ve already noticed you, you can just whip out a fast-moving swingable weapon and time it to take them out before they sting. Always stay on the lookout and keep your volume turned up in the Plains.
The huge trees in the swamp offer shelter because you can actually go inside through an opening in the bottom. A lot of them have a crack you can sometimes squeeze through
I know it might not be anything inventive, but when it comes to setting up temporary portals in the wild, I always try to look for already existing structures and build on/in them to save time rather than build the protection myself. Small huts and stone towers (like ones in the Black Forest) usually only need to have door added to be fairly secure. In the Swamp, I got to putting portals and workbenches on top of the sunken crypts for the crypt exploration (on the literal top, they have three 'levels' on the roof) - it seems nothing can get to them, even Surtlings seemed unable to damage the portal with their range attacks and my most recent portal was next to their spawner. Maybe I was just lucky, but my portals and workbenches left alone like this were never damaged, and I tend to leave them unattended for a while before I get rid of them and move on. Most of them stay there at least a couple of days.
Looting your grave: If you get the selection screen, there is a button "take all". But be aware, it will only take the slots that are free in your inventory. So make sure your most important slots are empty before doing this. It's pretty annoying if you just get stones, wood, greydwarf eyes and resin, while your weapons and armor remains in the grave.
you can also take only the most important items out so the grave doesn't despawn and you have something like a chest in that place tried that and after couple ingame days I'm still able to get my stuff out of it
ALWAYS have a portal at your home base that has a blank name. If you need to make an emergency teleport, get your workbench down, then the portal. It'll automatically connect home and get you out of harm's way.
I tried that for a while, and it turns out it’s easier to use “0” (zero), since you’ll want to place a specially marked one in certain locations but changing it requires you to step away to reset if it’s already connected, and failure to reset can confuse the signals.
@@davidk7529 Here's the trick.... Keep an unnamed portal at home for exploring - when you've found a proper place for your next portal, drop it unnamed and go home. Once home, decide what your portal's name / location is going to be. If you have a portal hub set that up and name it appropriately. Then re-equip / rest / eat / sleep then go through the Unnamed portal and rename the exploration portal. Once it connects leave it be and continue on. This way you can always set and "Emergency Bugout" portal at any time to save your bacon.

I've sunk almost 100 hours in this game within the first week of getting it and just accidentally learned that you can throw the spear using the middle mouse button. Sidenote: Makes the spear even cooler
I use portals as a "swipe card" door... you need to be holding the special item (I.e. ore) to gain access otherwise you get warped away... You can put a drop on the other side of the exit portal so they can't just walk back through the portal 😀
Campfire now needs a crafting bench (which needs a roof and wall) since folk used them as weapons. Ditto raising ground. Grave markers persist now. Use wooden poles to measure up the width/depth of moats.
If you put your cursor when crafting at the very edge of the "craft" button, the "stop crafting" hitbox is actually smaller then the craft hitbox, so you can just spawn click to craft multiple items while afk without canceling the crafting.
Probably would've been useful to mention the deathsquito "attack pattern". It took my way too long trying to shoot them while they were just in their "circling" phase. Once they begin their attack, they're coming straight at you. That's when you shoot.
You can cram those crops in as tight as the game will let you and they will still grow. The plants take turns growing and alternate between healthy and needs room. You just have to wait a little longer for them to grow but the density of the crops makes up for the time it takes.
a tip when mining i use, is to full the slots in the inventory, spliting whaterver i have, so when i mine it will only pick up the mineral, not the stone or wood or enemy drops
To expand on one tip, when building a bridge (or whatever) you are using a 2m pole to snap the next floor piece to but did you know that if you just place another floor piece on top and over hanging the last one (about 1/3 - 1/2 overhanging, doesn't need to be exact or neat as it's temporary) and you'll be able to easily snap the next piece into place ie. under the overhanging piece. The just remove your temp piece and repeat as required.
@@Kysen also don't even name ur escape portal back at home. Saves the time of having to name and connect. Out in the field just pop it down and jump in
The mouth of troll caves make excellent portal spots. If you just died and need some quick stamina to make a short dash, go inside for half a second while sneaking, snag a yellow shroom, eat it, and blast off to where you need to go.
I always found a better solution to the mosquito was to have a 2 handed pole arm. You just use the secondary attack and you sweep a clean 360 around you and it'll kill the little bugger. It also has plenty of range so it's not even hard to time.
Ugh... Wish I had known about cancelling a craft long ago. How many times have I meant to be Upgrading and accidentally Crafted a 5th set of Troll armor. Good tip for me.

When building bridges, you can start with a 1m wood beam, it'll snap right in place. After that it's super easy to place that 2m beam and go from there. I also like using 4m core wood beams so I don't have to alternate between beams and floor tiles every time. And it looks kinda nice, but can be changed once the structure is sound.
one more tip: when you go on a mining trip, lets say with your boat, set up a camp with portal and stuff, take more than one pichaxe with you. on my last iron trip i got my big boat full with iron before i had to portal back and repair stuff.
If you have trouble with your honey falling within your grab radius you can bury your beehives so long as the very top is sticking out of the ground you can still extract honey, the bees will be happy and produce honey that is very easy to grab. I like to use this area for farming as well since you can cultivate the ground around the top of your beehives.
It also keeps the NPC's away as the bees will attack Dwarfs and Dwarflings, so putting them near the edges or corners keeps them from attacking your crops. Not sure about higher level stuff, doubt a Troll would be bothered ...
Deathskeetos tactic 2: Shield and any weapon with it, hold block aiming at it waiting for it to hit, once it does, one swipe and its dead. Haven't wasted a single arrow on them after I realized it can't hit thru the block, doesn't even need to time it.
Depends on your shield. For the first few encounters, I did manage to block it, but also got staggered. So it always flew out of reach before I could strike. I had to parry them to have that opportunity. Can't remember which shield it was though. Holding up your shield helps you to keep your orientation towards the attacker even if you're going backwards though.
Word of advice always keep a portal with no name in your home base, because when traveling as soon as you get to a new island you can place a portal quickly and be able to get back there incase you die
"Honey, I threw the eggs down a mountain, don't get mad!" Ok, everyone is offering tips, so I have one! When you collect your grave, leave something in there so it doesn't destruct. Just a rock or whatever. Now the grave is permanent landscape storage that mobs cannot damage. If you died there, presumably it's a dangerous enough area to put some supplies! I also have a cool idea I haven't tested yet, and that's to make a new character named "supplies," and whenever I need safe storage in a dangerous place, just switch to that character, enable PvP, and have a fellow Viking kill me. Voila, an indestructible storage container with the glittering letters "SUPPLIES" floating above it :)
Safer way to fight deathsquitoes: block with a shield than slap with melee I just skipped the iron axe entirely. Why bother? Question: does the campfire on wood trick work for other things as well? Like, for example, could I place a windmill on my roof using this?
Oh my god thank you for the drawbridge trick I’ve been needing one and I’ve just been building four blocks to finish the bridge and when I come back over I would have to break those four pieces I don’t get why there’s not one to begin with but thank you so much
The plains are serious buzzness. If you're low level... don't be near the plains. Period. And if a deathsquito does spot you, *don't mess around with a bow.* Bows are powerful, but slower than honey in Finland and requiring great accuracy to hit a fast-moving target. Deathsquitos hit like a tank, but they max out at 30Hp for a two-star. Block with a sensibly strong shield (or parry if you're feeling cocky), then smack them with just about anything for your own OHK. Reserve the bow for times when you know you can't tank the first hit. DON'T PANIC. A fully upgraded weapon or tool is *not* better than the first level of the next material. They're similar, but basic B outclasses top end A by a small margin every time. Bogus tip. When building earthen walls and moats, bear in mind that Valheim handles terrain deformations in a weird way; each bit of deformation counts as an 'instance', or a unique world object. Too much deformation, and your game will start to lose frame rate (usually around 10,000 instances, viewable by hitting F2).
It doesn't matter how close you plant stuff together, once a plant is ready to be harvested it will no longer stop others from growing nearby. It just takes longer for the whole field to finish, but I rarely get to the carrot field the second it's ready anyway. Also, when planting you can just hold down left click, harvesting hold down e.
That is NO LONGER TRUE. In 2024 two plants planted too close, one dies! The best tip is press "C" to walk and plant away, positions them perfectly, don't get too close to the next row. Like may things it's a practice thing ... 😁
About portals and stuff now in the new year, if in you are not in the vicinity of said stuff the mobs wont attack it. Its my 119th day in game and my black forest portal and workbench from day 50ish is still there without any protection.
I was going to make this point. You don't need the "place a beam or floor piece and half place then delete" nonsense. Just point at a corner and use "E" to snap the next piece.
Just make a tree camp for that portal.. or what i like to do, is elevate the terrain and put the portal there. you can climb it by spamming the jump button, but mobs cant
As essentially a newbie coming back to the game for the update, these were all very helpful. Guess I need to carry a lot of stone around with me now when I go into the Black Forest (at least until my bow skills improve more).
What about building a Zoo? So it would be similar to your inmate Karen (Greyling) but you catch other creatures in the game too, and put them on display. Best on a continent with all the biomes of course so you can lead them to their cell(s). :)
A great video as usual. Thanks for the tips!! As a new player struggling with HP and food in general I would really like to see a complete food guide from you!! Thanks in advance!!
The walls at only 2m, if step, is enough to stop the progress on any not flying mob, trolls included. However trolls do aoe dmg, which the wall does not stop, the club trolls do dmg up to 6 meters away, so don't build closer than 6 meters to the wall. The height of the wall only matters when it comes to ranged mobs, as it affects their trajectory, that ends up with a bit of geometry needed on your part based on the height of your buildings, distance from wall, to calculate a safe height.
placing a 1/4 floor tile gap then breaking it works rather than doors over a moat, you can run across the gap, bring a cart across it and even wolves will follow you over the gap, but not mobs will cross the gap even trolls
i place 2m floors outside the 2nd story of my buildings and put beehives on them, 1 per 2m floor block and leave the block closest the building empty, my bees are happy
The campfire trick...the second one. I have never had the campfire clip through like that. Grounds gotta be level like you said no space between floor and ground will result in the campfire looking like it was placed on the wood floor....food for thought
Hey! Nice video! About the bridge made of doors to pass over a ditch. Better better to use simple planks with a gap between them. Then you won't have to go through and open all the doors untill it's closed again.

while planting crops...if you select "c" to walk and then just keep clicking your mouse button to plant your crop and they get planted at a perfect interval
I killed a lot boars, deer and necks just so I can overcooked their meat into coal. To me a while to realize that I can alternate between building/demolishing the smelter and kiln to make the bronze age come faster. Then, I decided to re-explore all the Burial Chambers and I actually missed a lot of surtling cores in my early expeditions. Now I have a smelter, a kiln and 4 portals.
Obviously this guide is a little outdated so a few things they changed from then to now: -The death marker on the map now stays and records the day and location where you died. -The hoe levels the ground to your feet so the best way to make a flat area is to click once and flatten a small patch then place floor pieces and flatten the surrounding ground. That way the floor should always be blue and the ground will always be at the same level. If you place a floor and can’t level it down, you mine it. If you can’t get it to raise up to the level, you raise it with the hoe.
dude any trench around a castel is a moat, water is nice, not necessary a "ditch" is the difference between a dirt road and a mud puddle so water is necessary for it to be a "ditch"
It should be mentioned that RESTED Buff is "only" +50% HP regen and +100% stam regen. RESTING buff is +200% HP regen and +300% stam regen!!! (Also, apparently, +50% XP gain) So putting up a camp fire in a couple of strategic places in the crypts really, really does make a difference. I usually take stone for 2-3fires and wood for 5-6
It is my understanding that to get the bonus dmg you need to be in stealth when you shoot the mob. Are you saying all we need is for them not to be aware?

If you have trouble with your honey falling within your grab radius you can bury your beehives so long as the very top is sticking out of the ground you can still extract honey, the bees will be happy and produce honey that is very easy to grab. I like to use this area for farming as well since you can cultivate the ground around the top of your beehives.
Awesome tip, thank you! How far apart do you place your beehives if you also farm in the same space?
@@Kitaelia about 2m beam distance
I have 9 in a tick tack toe formation
@@Advo42069 Thanks, I'm excited to try it! :D
It also keeps the NPC's away as the bees will attack Dwarfs and Dwarflings, so putting them near the edges or corners keeps them from attacking your crops. Not sure about higher level stuff, doubt a Troll would be bothered ...
I made a trap pit out of a deer rug in one of my playthrough and caught like 2 of my friends can recommend!
Deathskeetos tactic 2: Shield and any weapon with it, hold block aiming at it waiting for it to hit, once it does, one swipe and its dead. Haven't wasted a single arrow on them after I realized it can't hit thru the block, doesn't even need to time it.
Thanks for the awesome tip! Very useful to know 🙂
I killed with a mace.
Corpse run chapter is not applicable anymore around 21:07. You do not lose markers on the map anymore in valheim.
you can right click them on the map and they vanish after you get your stuff,, like a marker
Unless it stops doing so. I'm on the Ashlands update 7-6-24 and my corpse markers don't work anymore, so it can be buggy.
"Honey, I threw the eggs down a mountain, don't get mad!"
Ok, everyone is offering tips, so I have one!
Wow! tyvm for the tree spacing, I was going like 8 meters apart, that is going to help soooooo much. ty again Kysen.
You're very welcome 🙂
4:33 rotating the piles helps in stacking them on top of each other, as the center point is not right in the middle
Thanks! Great tip 🙂
Safer way to fight deathsquitoes: block with a shield than slap with melee
I just skipped the iron axe entirely.
Thanks so much for your videos..sharing them w my friends as we are all starting out
It doesn't matter how close you plant stuff together, once a plant is ready to be harvested it will no longer stop others from growing nearby.
Thanks for the updated info and for subscribing :)
Have you talked about the snapping options? The different bottom4/Top4/auto snapping by pressing ‘’E’’ that makes building thousand times easier?
I was going to make this point. You don't need the "place a beam or floor piece and half place then delete" nonsense. Just point at a corner and use "E" to snap the next piece.
Love the swamp tree rested buff trick! Nice find!
Thanks :) Glad you enjoyed the tips :)
Thnx for the series 👍 favorite channel for my valheim needs
Thanks so much :) glad you're liking the tips!
THE LAND BRIDGE IN THE WATER ! I’ve been trying to figure out how to make a bridge for sooo long!!!
you can build ladders around trees taller than bone mass and use your bow to kill him it does take needle arrows or a ton of fire arrows
when talking about the corpse run around 22 minutes in, how long did it take you to vuild that base
Iron Poles are better than Iron Gates for stability. I belive the poles allow you to go 2 blocks higher.
OMFG THE SURTLING CORE FARM!
The campfire trick...the second one. I have never had the campfire clip through like that. Grounds gotta be level like you said no space between floor and ground will result in the campfire looking like it was placed on the wood floor....food for thought
I COULD put vegetation on low. But then it's not as pretty
I liked the name you gave to the scarecrow, lol.
Hey! Nice video!
About the bridge made of doors to pass over a ditch. Better better to use simple planks with a gap between them. Then you won't have to go through and open all the doors untill it's closed again.
The floating sign text looks really cool. Great tip
Does the stone wall trick not work anymore?
I came here to ask the same thing. I can't get it to work like it does in this video
Incredibly helpful, thank you!
To everyone in the comment complaining about his brand deal with raid, just skip it!, there is nothing wrong in accepting a brand deal like this, its not a scam, its a popular mobile game and he has to pay his bill, also brand deal last 30 days usually, so just skip it. this is some great content with good tips on the game, if you can't watch it because of a single advert or something you don't like, you won't go far in life
0:47 or then just time your sword slash correctly
while planting crops...if you select "c" to walk and then just keep clicking your mouse button to plant your crop and they get planted at a perfect interval
Why would having the boat fully repaired matter for keeping the materials when you are damaging the boat to destroy it to recoup your materials?
Lol
Now why the heck did I never think to just build as I whenever I am adventuring?! Now I feel like an idiot lol.
The Tree / Roof / Workbench tip was super useful, thanks!
someone probably already mentioned it, but just in case. You can place a horizontal iron beam in a wood floor to built a campfire on it
I came for the tips and tricks and stayed for the dad jokes XD
good stuff, especially the dad jokes 😀
What's the giant twisted cage looking thing @16:57?
Nicely put together. I sure love this game.
Glad you enjoy it! I love Valheim too :D
Also. ALT and left click quick moves or quick drops items. SHIFT click will let you half items or set a certain number
Obviously this guide is a little outdated so a few things they changed from then to now:
-The death marker on the map now stays and records the day and location where you died.
1:35 sick burn
nothing new, but a nice compilation of useful tips and tricks.
also, dont build within 4 meters of an earthwall, as trollclubs clip through it.
Thank you for the troll tip :)
The chest stacking trick also works for log piles.
6:31 how do you make something like that bit twisty thing?
dude any trench around a castel is a moat, water is nice, not necessary
a "ditch" is the difference between a dirt road and a mud puddle
so water is necessary for it to be a "ditch"
Country boy. City Slickers don't know this.
It should be mentioned that RESTED Buff is "only" +50% HP regen and +100% stam regen.
RESTING buff is +200% HP regen and +300% stam regen!!! (Also, apparently, +50% XP gain)
So putting up a camp fire in a couple of strategic places in the crypts really, really does make a difference. I usually take stone for 2-3fires and wood for 5-6
It is my understanding that to get the bonus dmg you need to be in stealth when you shoot the mob. Are you saying all we need is for them not to be aware?
Cheers Kysen! Great to see some new tips, you have helped make my journey on this game much more enjoyable.
Glad you like them! And glad the tips helped :)
@@freedmfe8934 well I'm glad I am subbed to this 'trashtuber' otherwise I wouldn't have picked up some new tips. Kysen often says he isn't interested in stealing any credit but tries to spread the word so as many people can learn and enjoy new things.
It's impossible to credit everyone and it's not being done with Ill intent if a credit is missed.
Many tips on this one video. Thanks dude!
You're very welcome 🙂
At 7:53, there's something that says "Well, Hello..." or something to your character in game, wth was that!? Lots of great tips all in one place!
It’s the merchant
Yeah that's Haldor the Merchant haha. That's my tutorial world where I use cheats and I spawned him in so that's what he looks like :D
@@Kysen I thought maybe it was Odin or something, cause I'd like to create a mod like with Greek gods impregnating everyone, but in game with my female player character, and then I'd be able to play as a demigod of some type, a direct descendant from Odin himself...
I don't understand why, but the ground wall just doesn't work for me :(
Thanks for another excellent Valheim guide
Glad you enjoyed it :)
You didn’t even rest under that tree 1:44 you already had that rested from before?
When changing portal names I change it to "off" first, let it turn off, then change to name to where I am going. When it turns on go through.
Well you can build a Wind Mill 18:40 ... or you can just build an actual Windmill and make flour :3
Maybe if you didnt rock troll armour all the time, you’d realize mosquitoes are quite meh.
Ty for these tips but we we need More of the hardcore series
I'm working on it 🙂
I don’t know where this bonemass is difficult is coming from just make poison resistance and when your heath or stanima get low just make it chase you around the big skull it spawns near
didnt they patch breaking the boat for the materials back?
I still use this trick :)
