this is song is definitely on my top 3 new order songs. It's amazing how a band evolves in a so short period of time, going away from the dark landscapes to a colorful "love" territory.
But it also “cuts your life like a broken knife” and the lyric switches from “it belongs to every one of us” to “it belongs to everyone but us”
@@neoisis9373 you nailed it...that’s the (not so) subtle genius of the lyrics. Love is the cause of the highs and lows in our lives. The old phrase “it’s better to love and lost rather than not love at all” was said by someone who never had a deep love ripped away.
What a tune. The perfect example of how to let an intro to a song set the mood. Fantastic
I was 17 when this came out and thought it their last great single.
Left them until Crystal then fell in love again. Since then I’ve bought their entire back catalogue.
For me Movement and Power, Corruption and Lies remain my favourite albums. Probably for nostalgic reasons.
A New Order hymn. A breath before Low Life, one the most inspired album of the 80s.

Those delays , echoes, on the drums in the beginings sounds like Aphex Twin, but from 1984.
Kraftwerk will always be the Father of electronic music but New Order was that kid that was curious in tweaking around the knobs. They pushed the boundaries They changed Electronic music by being curious. Barney, Hooky, Gillian, & Steve the REAL NEW ORDER.

I still love waiting to hear how he sings every song in the early 1980's.
Things got a bit too predictable after that.

Anyway,if anyone views this comment the Ukrainian Home concert is a joy but find the New Order" Heaven"concert recording of Decades if you want to hear the passion of this band.

Never been too crazy about this song but it's really impressive how close they got this performance to the studio version. Normally their live performances around this period were a joke (Still endearing and certainly entertaining though)
I love the creative chaos they created back then. Remember the 1984 Hamburg gig when Gillian stood helpless in front of the damned sequencer....
Kind of understood why they went to background dat-tapes during Republic, but they've lost a lot of their charm as a live band doing this.
Forgive me, yes I am a New Order fan, but this performance isn't very good, is it? Yes I can see the year and everything, but still e.g. the timing is all over the place except drum machine...

This has always been N.O. live. The timing, the vocals always been off, but this is what makes N.O., N.O.

Joy Division is incredibly overrated.
The synths sounded awful and it sounded like a 2 year old was banging on a keyboard.
You do something better than this. Yeah. Thought so.
