No, IMHO ... . His voice is just wrong for this song. It's too high in pitch, too "cheerful". Ian made the song perfect: Sad, depressed. I miss that in here.
I'm 57 now, and thinking back, this is the first song I ever heard where a synth wash gave me goosebumps. It was so far ahead of its time. It influenced me and led me to synthesizers as a musician. I've never looked back.
After a few too many on my own I'm always crying 😢 thinking of everything and all those that aren't here no longer, dam this one hits me so dam hard everytime.
I have to say that Bernard Sumner (sic) does an excellent job of 'covering' that tune. Yes, Stephen Morris 🥁 can still keep the beats for an old dude. I came across this while looking for something else, and I was skeptical. Excellent version!
Tragic.. it definitely has a place in time. Never to be done again. What a impact this amazing artist had on the world of music.. it's ssd that we couldn't hear more of his amazing talent! I think New Order did do justice in their tribute to him. I'm also a huge New Order fan.. so I might be a little bias I admit! Still awesome though..
Wonderful song and like all of the Joy Division and New Order songs Hooky's bass was such a central part. I wish you'd patch things up guys, life's too short and you were so perfect and all essential parts. Love to you all.
@@StevenSheridan23 there's about 50 different interviews. Both parties are happier without each other. If you read any of the band members books they talk about how Barney and Hooky always fought. The rest of New Order prefers Barney and stuck with him, likely because of Hooky's alcoholism and general dismissiveness of Gillian, and are making some great music without him these days. Hooky went off to go tour with his son, and has been successful with that. It'll be a miracle if Hooky and the rest of the band ever talk to each other ever again.
@@raph6931 I've read the biographies apart from Stephen Morris's 2nd one (which is in my self to read). It's a shame really, Bernie can be a bit of a dick at times also and completely ruined Republic. There's s great record there, it's just mixed terribly... With the bass turned right down. The tensions in the band gave to really great music, when it was balanced. I thought the last album was awful really. It seemed that the bassist was purposely doing the opposite of what you would expect from Hooky 😂. When his bass was a major part of New Order's sound, it was very noticeable. I wish they'd just sit down and talk it all out, now they're not on drugs or drink. Just for them as people really, rather than this sour note.
We all miss Ian, but you a little more. I saw the tribute concert at fib 2010 or 2011, sorry for my memory, and I was just as moved as that day. Thank you
My favorite Joy Division Song, redone by the surviving members , almost a decade later.. you can hear in his voice how it chokes him up, singing lyrics by the late singer
I am telling since many years to my wife and close people, that I would love to be buried with this song. Definitely it is in my personal "songs of my life". Much better Ian´s version, but anyway, what a wonderful and heartbreaking song.
If you then experience something like that live, especially with the pictures on the big screen, you won't forget the goosebumps and emotions!
A haunting song but class

I’m seeing him live in Denver in September
At 65 this song live still reduces me to tears
Yes. When the keyboards kick in and the music soars I get goosebumps. Every time.
@@Sherdelune It's the first drum beat for me every time, then when the bass kicks in that's it
@@avictorbell2835 Stephen Morris is a beast on drums. So goood.

Great treatment of a great song. The way time passes so quickly, 1980 doesn't feel that long ago.
The magic touch of Stephen Morris 🥁

We always called it the "Acid trip " song cause of that sound... like the chills.. oh I can't talk about that here :) it was college...
Gave me chills when Ian appeared on the screen 🙌🙌

Joy Division Atmosphere meets David Bowie Cat People
oh, with a bit of "cat people" by david bowie and giorgio moroder.
I prefer Hooky's voice and bass but it's still my favorite song overall
Would it kill the bass player to use more chorus on his bass? Also, there are a lot of 6 string basses out there.

Bernard sounds absolutely horrible, is that auto-tune?
Bernard cant sing it
He put the brilliant synth in it & New Order are a different band because Ian wouldn’t have sang True Faith as good as Barney
