*IMPORTANT!!!!! SOME OF MY RESPONSES TO EMAILS AND COMMENTS ON THIS & SIMILAR VIDS:
Been feeling slightly alarmed (and worryingly responsible) at the amount of responses from folks stating they may just pick up and move across the world based on a 15 min YT video.... Here's an email response I just sent to a guy who said he's considering quitting his job and moving here (despite never even been here before....)
==============
-Honestly, you may think you could live on $800 month/$1000 month etc here but at that budget life would be very basic (plus wouldn't include insurance, visa costs, emergencies, etc etc etc). Personally keep to approx $1500 budget and find that 'just' covers having a modestly enjoyable lifestyle here (one's milage may vary of course).
Both health insurance and long term visas can be costly especially depending on age. Under 50 health insurance approx $100 month and over 50 insurance gets increasingly expensive, factor $300 month-up. Visas: Elite visa $17K USD for 5 years, 60K USD for 20 years. Retirement visa you must show either 65k THB/$1900 USD monthly income, or 800kTHB/$23,000 USD in a Thai Bank account. Many under 50's do get other visas such as education visa to learn Thai Language or Muay Thai etc but this is a short term solution and they're cracking down on abusers.
Thus, BEFORE you say 'take this job and %#$@! it' and jump on a plane to move to Thailand... would recommend at a minimum coming for a visit FIRST. YT'rs like me can make it look all wonderful but of course daily life is much different than a 15 min YT highlight vid. So, please, BEFORE making any commitments (or burning bridges) come have a look first. Then, if you still feel the same and are financially sound, do a longer test (say 6 months) to see if daily life here really meets expectations, suits your lifestyle and your budget.
Good luck

Love your realistic honesty
Brilliant advice and spot-on.
Life isn’t all that it seems to be on a screen. Have been to Thailand before and it was great, not perfect but very good, considering this or Philippines as a possible destination. But it’s all part of a 5-year plan. Currently on year 2 of that plan.
Keep up the great content pal and keep on enjoying that good life✌️
come to cali, you can live simply on budget 5 to 6k usd per month, j/k, :)
we all fantasize about escapism, don't we?
I will leave America one day lol
i SOOOOO agree. I traveled back and forth to Thailand from San Diego (I actually had a "real job" at one time, 5555) for ~7 years. The last few "vacations" were each over a month. Additionally, I tried out Singapore, Malayasia, Philippines, Vietnam. That said, I also tell people, as long as you have a solution for getting "back home" (e.g. ~$2000 USD for plane ticket) and a way to live back there (obvisouly don't burn any bridges in life is a wise policy) It can be a great way to truly experience another culture... i.e. being forced to a.k.a. Immersion. Everyone has their process but personally, I like to become as much of an 'expert' in topics so that i feel comforable making a choice... ALWAYS love your vids and perspective my Canadian friend! Live the Dream. ciao.
I ate in that restaurant and somehow lost my cash. I said to the owner hold my phone while I go to the ATM. He was incredulous and said no, keep your phone and just come back. Legend. Yes I tipped him.
Thanks for sharing LK Bart1! Similar deal for me, was in Market Village in Hua Hin and bought some shorts. I only had a 1000 note and she had no change so she said 'Nevermind, you take and pay me next time'. So I did take the shorts (then got change and paid her;) STL
Do they take american credit and debit cards?
What is with all the Russians in Thailand especially jomtien. Have they all mutiny the war ??
@@garytaylor5937 yes. I was just there a few weeks ago and was really surprised to see the plane is crawling with Russians. Jomtien especially. Hua Hin wasn't as much.
@@snave59 yes they do.
Dude, your narration is so chill. You sound like you're loving life, so I'm a bit envious. I originally wanted to see a little of it as I was video surfing, and ended up watching the whole thing. Well done!
Anybody that checks the beer prices at the fitness center pool is my kinda guy.

Agreed

Come join us at the Beach in Hua Hin for the coldest beer and the best tour guides in town !
I like it when Vloggers take us around and show us the area instead of sitting in a room and telling us about it. Great Video! I would take the cheapest one with a pool-- cause that's just how I am... 😜
right. me too
@@runwader good for you guys nothing wrong with saving money it doesn't come easy I am proud of you
Same. I see it as just a place to sleep out of the rain. I plan on being outside most of the time. Going to the Philippines but these places look nice as well! Just the language thing is a deal breaker.
Agree.$129 a month.Very good price.Much cheaper than in USA!.
We have been in Hua Hin many times and it is not over-crowded, they have everything. Certainly not the worst place to be for a long stay and way better than Bangkok.
I gained a whole new appreciation for your production values recently after viewing someone else's jerky and poorly planned video. You're one of my very favorites. I discovered you on a video where you were bopping around the Philippines and meeting people. I remember you came across people celebrating a birthday and were invited to have some food with them. I thought, now that's the kind of people I want to live around.
Thanks again, Carson from SoCal.
Of all the videos from Ex-pats in Thailand I appreciate this video the most. Showing off your town, the cheap places to rent or own. The food and beverage available. All while just bouncing around town on your scooter. Very nicely done. Very casual, friendly, and relaxed.... like the Thai people and lifestyle ;-)
I'll be across from you in Rayong, which honestly is Hua Hin's eastern twin. Love it there.
Once the high speed train is up and running reducing the travel time to and from Bangkok, I can see the prices rising. Hua Hin would probably be my pick of places to retire. Has not got the burning season like Chiang Mai. Has some night life but isnt as full on as Pattaya. Doesnt have the Smog problem of Bangkok. Cheaper than Phucket.
Are there shops in hua hin nearby the houses?
You nailed it. But would it get a little boring there after awhile?
@@davidmorgan6246Thailand so cheap you can just pick up and go to another city..
this guy is a true professional. great work!
I've been living here for 2 years, it's a beautiful city. The beach is beautiful and very long, safe, clean, with complete facilities. Since I moved from Bangkok to Hua Hin 2 years ago after working from home. I recommend if you are visiting, renting a car for 25$-30$ per day is very worthwhile. It is only 2 hours away from Bangkok. Of course, if you rent a car from Bangkok, you can easily drive to Hua Hin and Pattaya. I want to say that buying a condo here is really worth it. I bought it for $25000 2 years ago. and now the price has gone up 25%. It a good choice 😍😍🍻🍻👍👍✔✔
2 hours from Bangkok?
how many bedrooms for $25,000usd?
Hi, If you could help me out a bit. What Condo Dev. is it you bought, unit size, and the maintenance costs? Also is the title in a Thai's name, or your own? Lastly, can you rent the out if/when you're away for awhile? Thanks
@@ianwallace16 For your car 👍👍
@@steverosenberg745 Of course, most of them have a fitness center, swimming pool, wifi, and private parking. You have to come and see, but for me, size doesn't matter. 21 square meters for singles or 40 square meters for families. That cool 😁😁👍👍
The more I know about hua hin, the more I’m liking this place
If there was a super like for this video I would give it. Love that you have prices in AUD and other currencies because prices in USD suck for 96% of the world population that aren't from the US
I was there two days ago. I depressed being back in the US. Virtually every aspect of life there is better in my opinion. I will be returning permanently.
New subscribers,I’m also from Vancouver Canada. So,hello from Canada 🇨🇦 lol 😆 I’m heading there soon. 😊
Thanks for subbing!
I would live in Seamira House (5 year old hotel near soi 94, ask for a room facing the pool), they have monthly rates < 11k, it's next to the new train tracks (not active) and the Baan Khun Por market (very nice place for a meal with live music). Other choices for condos with rooftop pool are The room (5.5k-8.5k depending on the floor) and Parin Residence (8-10k), they're also next to soi 94. I stayed in La Casita 2 months ago, it was also fine, the pool was great. For restaurants, I'd advise Ken's kitchen (best curry ever), Shiva (great Indian restaurant with a nice garden), Ogen (middle eastern) and Flavours (nice burgers).
the 5.5k is it that, may I ask?
And the base is great , with rooftop pool
Thanks bro- very helpful info
Love how the Thai people are so friendly. I will be glad when i can move there.
Agreed! Khrup :)
Don't kid yourself ,, ALL countries have good and bad people
I would love to move too but unfortunately I'll lose part or all age pension since greedy and corrupted Australian government don't have a social security agreement with Thailand.
@@billadmond9450 nor does the UK.
@@billadmond9450u say u lose your pension if you move to Thailand but you have rights as well or you could get family members to transfer your pension money into thai bank for you from Scott new Zealand
Those horses are healthy and well cared for. That alone is impressive and very positive.
I come back to Thailand in November for 3-months as a “suck it and see’ trip, trying various places to live before retiring fully there in June 2024. Hua Hin is most certainly now on the radar after watching this vlog. I had always been determined to live in Bangkok but Hua Hin looks amazing, and such great VFM.
I like the last condo you looked at. Love how it has a separate kitchen area. Nice location too. We are travelling to Hua Hin and beyond (south) in Aug for the first time. Looking for areas to rent when we retire in about 5 years time. Can’t wait to check it out.
Thanks for this vlog sir. I was in Hua Hin in 2018 for a few week.. I’m saving hard to return and hopefully live there nearing my retirement. I’ve never felt so chilled as being there while abroad. Lovely place, lovely people ❤
Thanks for your fantastic tour! I would choose the last one... I loved the color scheme and the decorations, plus the furniture looked comfy. The greatest part of the video, for ma, was hearing the locals give you a friendly hout-out when you said hello while passing them. Try that in the States and people would simply look at you as if you're a weirdo. Loved it!
Actually, people in the Midwest are quite friendly. In fact, when Hollywood sends crews here to shoot films, they always talk about how friendly and helpful everyone is.
thank you for doing a great favour for us by showing all the condos and prices, its actually save a lot of our time
A+ !!! Your videos are soooo good and you are a very cool relaxed guy. Love your filming and maps and infos. Thank you so much!!! Cheers from Germany
I really find your new video approach and the way you are organizing your content for searching of reasonable lodgings in Hua Hin.... This seems to be the kind of place you can enjoy living and relax... For living simple but have many options is a good thing... Keep up presenting the detail like this.... Cheers
Really nice vid. Thanks for taking us around with you, next time I know to visit Hua Hin😊
I would take the last one, just a walk to the beach
You're killing me. Haha, heading to Koh Lanta this month but now I'm rethinking. I saw some of those townhomes were pet-friendly which is a huge selling point for me. Great video!
My husband and I are hoping to move to Thailand in the next coming 2 years. We've been doing a lot of research and came across your Channel absolutely love your videos on Thailand. Always looking forward to the next one!
Hi SideTripLife, I am going on a week long vacation to Samui, I wanted to thank you for all you Samui videos over the past few years. They were a true inspiration for this. I remember you stayed at Hacienda, in Fisherman's Village and I booked that same place.
Excellent video. I always enjoy your laid back presentation and this tour of Hua Hin.
Thanks!
Love watching these it's like getting a personal sight seeing tour ❤
Love this video STL!! Love all the details you have provided…all very helpful & useful for my husband and I 😊 Thanks for sharing this vlog 🙏🏼
Glad it was helpful!
i liked the last condo, but any of them would work! That last beach bar looked neat too. Ive not seen too much content from Hua Hin, so i am looking forward to your videos!
At 19:53 minutes, I saw my sister's condo called Kiang Fah Condo. The atmosphere inside the condo is very good. There is a swimming pool, a gym, a garden and a library on the top floor. 😊
Baan Kiang Fah is a lovely Condo :)
🙂 Loving this video 🙂Very very good idea showing what you found. Quick small walk thru, and looking what is in the surrounding areas. Very nice 🙂
I love your videos the most. So much more informative. Thanks for taking your time out of your day to share your travels with the world. I really love the look of Hua Hin more then Bangkok and Pattaya.
Thanks! Also for taking time out of your day to watch and comment :) STL
Great vid. Thanks for putting long term and short term prices on here!
I'm leaving California as soon as I can. You can't rent a cardboard box near the beach for that price here. Not old enough for the retirement visa so my plan is to bounce around SE Asia to check out Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines etc. Great stuff can't wait to see your choice.
I would choose that last apartment where the Russians were. Quiet area and right down the road from the beach.
I'm also in California. The only thing that stops me from being in Thailand full-time is my kids. Yeah, they are grown but I can't imagine being away from them all the time. Definitely will stay for a few months a year though.
Thanks Loucous happy new year and I love these videos. Cheers from the u.k
for me, the big factor would be whatever my budget happens to be/ the $350/ month one at the end was nice/ but the others were fine too/ and it is often good to leave extra room in your budget for building up for a "whatever" regardless of other issues.
You can’t go wrong
Thanks STL
Your views are back right up 👌 - your opinions on Thailand in Thailand are highly rated 👍👋🙏😃
Thanks for sharing! I love this kind of real estate videos with both short time and long time rent with the price in Thai Bath are included. For a short time, I would choose the next last one for 4000 Bath. And for longer stay I would choose the last one for 10 000 Bath a month. The last one was also the most apealing in my eyes.
Not Bath.
@@anthonylutz118 No Bath, but great $$$hower......lol
I’m mildly shocked at the quality of these places for the price. Best value condos I’ve seen in Thailand so far…thank you!
Thanks again for another informative video. The lodging availability is amazing, great prices!
Great video, love your format. Thank you.
Thank You for yet another great Video 👍❤️
Not paying Vancouver prices ($1,500), LOL. My daughter goes to UBC, has a basement apartment in someone’s house, pays $2,500 and that was VERY hard to find. Love your videos. I watch many but think yours are the best. Retiring the end of the year, need to find a fixed address abroad and your videos are really helping. It will just be a home base. I will be travelling more often then there so something cheap but livable for short stints is what I’m looking for. Need to add Hua Hin to the list of places to check out.
.........it's the same everywhere mate....rents Are Sky High....& there is not a lot on the market........
That rent should include tuition!! I love my former home of Vancouver but damn... Deffo Hua Hin is worth a look on your retirement search.
I am from Vancouver as well! The rentals are crazy expensive so luckily I own! 😅 My daughter can live at home while attending university but I really feel for those who can't, I can't wait to visit Thailand, and these videos really help! Thank you!
At least Vancouver is a beautiful city Im in the desert Phoenix Arizona paying $1,700 for a 1 bedroom apartment Madness
I just got out of the Canadian basement thing 3 months ago if I ever have to go back somebody shoot me pls.
Another HIGH quality informative video! 😀
Looking forward to more content I’m devouring a lot of your past videos. Love your channel!
Great content, great job! Thank you!
5:02 That Hilton Hotel used to be Melia Hua Hin that my mom used to work as front desk staff back in late 80s to mid 90s.
It used to be a 5-star hotel as Melia and then Hilton took over sometime in late 90s and make it a 4-star hotel.
I loved their multi-tiered swimming pools hope they still keep it.
Good memories of my early childhood there staying in Melia suite like a month for free.
Melia was a great hotel, I stayed there before the change to Hilton. Thanks for sharing your unique memories growing up there :))

Great Video. 10 years ago I stayed at the PP villa. I love Samui but I think Hua Hin is a great compromise as i like to travel outside Thailand and I am now semi retired. Winter Thai, Summer Calgary. I will definitely look into staying there long term then I can golf, visit Vietnam easily, and visit Samui as well. Keep up the good work my fellow Canuck
Cowtown summers, Thailand, Vietnam winters, perfect!

Love the videos .. The beach is my favourite place to move in the sunshine ☀️
Ty! This was fun and informative- I would choose the last one 😊 it seems calm, quiet, and I love to cook too and I like the blue furnishings and natural light 🩵
I’d take the first one - I actually stayed there for a week before COVID. You’ll obviously need transport though.
Takiab is great - but too far out, and very quiet - esp for a whole month.
Nice video by the way - very informative - as was the train-journey chronicle !! Thanks 👍🏼👍🏼
Really like how you present your videos. This one has arrived at the right time for me as plan to travel down from up in the smoke filled north in a couple of weeks.
I really like that you show food and coffee etc while looking at the properties too. And maps with walking times.
I haven’t looked back in the history of your videos yet I was just curious how far back your videos go back date wise I’ll have to go back and check so informative. Thanks for your hard work!!!
Enjoying this series a lot as I love Hua Hin and miss it alot😢 😂 Although we typically stay in a hotel/resort (fav being Centara) one time we had a condo in Baan Chai Talay (5min walk from Cicada mkt) with massive pool and beach front.

I also use to rely on the small fitness gym at Sport Villa back in 2004 rehabbing my knee and take advantage of the nice swimming pool. I was over there Hua Hin and Cha Am between 1993/99 It has changed for better. Good work man, best regards from Catalonia-Spain
Nice video, never looked around Hua Hin before. Thanks.
Really appreciate the boots-on-ground, practical videos. Question: in your various hotel, condo hunts, do you encounter many bugs/roaches in them? My rather specific phobia, but I’m curious. Thanks!
Me too. Bugs and critters is a deal breaker. I know someone going there in February this year staying 20 days so I will get a better idea when they return. It sounds like all the additional expenses mentioned makes it no so cheap. Especially for someone on a fixed income. Also future prices could go way up like for instance Mexico . Mexico has priced most retired people out. Just to enter the country to live requires a high income plus a big savings account people going to Mexico to save money do not have those fund. Looks like Mexico is discouraging people to move there. That is the problem. You can give up everything to move overseas then end up finding unexpected changes. I like Sicily and Portugal. Sicily first because it is on the ocean but they are all too far away from family. For me family is more important than places but good luck to all of you who plan to make the move. Cheers 🥂🍻
Great info...Not been there for years, looks more tempting acting this video, thanks!
Thanks for another great video! I would definitely take the last condo but will watch and see which one you've ended up chosen.
