One thing I NEVER see anyone bring us is how Iacon's buildings come from the floor and ceiling, almost looking like stalactites and stalagmites! Which makes sense for an underground city. Also to defend Megatron's arc, on repeat watches it's pretty clear he has some buried frustrations that have been mounting for his entire life. Gaining the power to actually do something about that caused it all to boil over and instead of taking time to cope with his rage and learn to manage it, he jumped for the quick and easy solution; kill Sentinel.
I had my second watch this week - while it might be due to having already seen the movie - D/Megs arc felt much smoother on second watch. Absolutely agree with you lads that you can see the... potential inside of D-16 throughout
@@GrimSqueaker Yea. The movie is pretty subtile about certain topics. (like about the pretty bad way the cogless bots were treated, they're essentially slaves)
Even when D-16 in the cave found out that his role model was a prime his facial expression changed into anger. Did anyone notice. He has a dark back story regarding the primes.
Y’know, coming out of my first viewing of One I’d have agreed that the Megatron arc was a little rushed- I’ve seen it again (ah, four times in total) and now I don’t think I agree. On subsequent viewings it’s really clear that D-16’s rigid rule following and hero worship are coping mechanisms for being in a situation he hates, and as much as he’s friends with Orion, he’s also pretty obviously fed up with his wise-eyed do-gooder nonsense. The way he blames himself for interfering with Darkwing and getting clobbered, the way he casually (and granted, jokingly) threatens violence on the bot that’s his best friend (three separate times! Not including the time he actually punched him!) the way he snaps at Orion when the truth is revealed and the way he blames him for breaking protocol- yeah, his arc kind of turns on a dime at that point, but after a second viewing and really taking in his story, I can totally buy that moment as his breaking point, and his entire arc really works for me.
I completely agree with this! Subsequent viewings made it really clear how bottled-up D is in the beginning. He was a bottle of soda all shaken up, and him learning the truth is what finally popped off the cap.
Totally. Even the point where he suddenly agreed on joining the expedition to the surface, upon Orion mentioning sentinel, was that his coping mechanism was already crumbling hard at that point, and he realized he was desperate in finding any route back to normalcy and pretend that everything is fine. He was coping hard this whole time. Him breaking knowing the truth about sentinel was actually one of the most believable character moments in the film.
I saw it as something like Joker's one bad day origin. D-16's entire belief system and worldview turned out to be a lie and it completely broke him. Then he met the High Guard and their might makes right philosophy was the only thing that made sense to him anymore, so he grabbed onto that ideal as hard as he could. We know he values strength because that's what he admired about Megatronus Prime. Now he sees an opportunity to rebuild society in the only way that makes sense to him.
IKR. Not to mention we finally see the extrovert, sunshine, outgoing, true optimism demeanour that he had in the G1 series made its grand return after 4 decades. Aside from Unicron Trilogy & Animated to an extent, I find the other versions of Optimus Prime feel too stoic, serious & melancholic, which made me kinda hard to relate to them.
@@xscaralienx9398 It's okay because Michael Bay's name isn't on it. As long as he's not part of it, and he looks like G1 Optimus, he can be as violent as the fans want and they'll love it.
Interesting! I always thought it's just some random name Hasbro came up with since it matches Optimus Prime's initials. Thanks to you, the name Orion Pax has way more meaning now, & perfectly fits him too! 😍😍😍
One (hah) thing you forgot about Thew, which may change your mind a bit back in Starscream's favor, was that the shrieky G1 voice was only used for a single bit. He only had that voice for the moments immediately following getting bashed in the throat but not too long afterward, he was back to his regular voice in the few remaining lines he had. It was just a reference but they didn't dwell on it, so it wasn't actually meant to be an origin to his voice, unless TF Two comes out and retcons that, which may very well happen if they can't afford to get Steve Buscemi back.
I quite often like to replace the word million whenever it appears in Transformers media with the word thousand. A million is hard to picture, but a thousand isn't. A thousand years ago was The Battle of Hastings, I can easily imagine robots fighting a silly ancient space war for that long.
That asterix about "for a transformers movie" is so real. I feel like this is the first TF movie aside from like Bumblebee that I think just kinda works on it's own merits. The plot is understandable. It's characters are likeable. Everything works together to create a stunning film and piece of animation that I really like even seperated from transformers brand
What I really appreciate is that this movie really sold the ideological thoughtline of the Decepticon faction such that you can see why people would sign on to it, and also how it could go toxic over time. It really makes it believable that each side could look at the other and say ‘no, YOU are the bad guys’.
Yeah, the Decepticons in this and IDW remind me of the Bolsheviks and CCP - revolutionaries who overthrew a brutal regime, then replaced it with their own brutal regime.
THIS THIS THIS! If they don't transform during combat, this is just a generic robot movie with a TF skin on it. It's why Rodimus vs Galvatron is so good.
& not to mention, this is also the first time they incorporated the toyetic designs into combat: Like OP snapping off Megatron's turret, only for Megatron to snap it back on like it's nothing. Just like we accidentally snap some parts off while playing, only for us to snap them back on like we never broke them.
I love when the Elite Guard captured them and they gagged only Bumblebee because he wouldn't shut up, "even when he was unconcious?" "ESPECIALLY when he was unconcious!"
Agree that the 'big thing' happening 50 years ago was a good choice. So much of our actual history that we consider important wasn't actually that long ago, but still gets misremembered and misrepresented. Adds some realism and relatability to the silly robot movie.
I don't consider TFOne to be part of the previous series AT ALL. I don't really care what the producer said about it either. He was being vague for the sake of marketing, but the movie itself clearly wasn't made to fit in with any previous film or continuity.
Agreed. Because each new Transformers story project uses many of the same elements in approximately the same arrangement, they feel compatible -- until you notice the specifics that aren't. The marketing is motivated to claim "this is connected to previous similar projects you liked" even if the writer et al. want to tell a story that *isn't* bogged down by connectivity.
I don't want humans to never come back, i just want humans to be INTERESTING, damnit! Like, imagine if there was a noire detective investigating a string of crimes, only to get roped into the Autobot/Decepticon war
I adored Transformers One, but I think that people out there are a bit burnt on Transformers because of the Bay-verse. Those had a clear level of diminishing returns and people are expecting the same with TF One.
Went to watch it yesterday. It was a Thursday afternoon/evening so I was literally the only person in the theater, sitting dead center of the middle row with my Premium Finish SS38 on my lap for company. It was absolutely a special experience to see it like that.
Morpheus : This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill - the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.
My biggest problem with cycles in transformers is that there's like five different lengths of time they can represent. In Animated and Beast Wars a cycle is roughly a minute, in IDW 2005 it's an hour and fifteen minutes, in IDW 2019 it's a day that's shorter than twenty-four hours, and in the Energon comics a cycle is an entire year. They're mentioned in the WFC show (and Cyberverse, if memory serves) but we have no clue how long cycles are in those shows. I really think they should just establish a set-in-stone definition for how long they are, since it really feels like they've been used as the Cybertronian equivalent to years for a while now.
I am similarly irritated by the inconsistency, but the writers tend to more interested in "does this expression feel like a long or short time?" than a strict timeline. Almost any story you look at, space and time are flexible to serve the plot. It takes a long time to traverse the city -- until it's convenient to be fast. There are 30 seconds on the clock -- which somehow fit five minutes of dialogue. The storytelling conceit that the characters are speaking in English, and everything is translated except units of measure because they impart a sense of "alien-ness," is just something a viewer has to roll with.
This is the closest we've probably gotten to "G1 Optimus, AS PORTRAYED in G1" since the original. Maybe RID01* was a close second? Either way, the real original Optimus could crack wise and acted as a role model to his men, rather than just being "the guy who gives orders and feels sad for how things turned out." I liked that Rise of the Beasts included a couple HINTS of that, but it should have leaned more into it. But One did a great job of showing how Optimus was more than just an officer, he was a friend, a big brother, a father. It makes me wish Ironhide had been included in their little gang. *Yes, RID01 tried to play their Optimus like the original. Not just the voice, but also his personality. Even though it's not actually G1.
Seen it 4 times now. Can’t wait to own it on DVD. I really love how deeply accessible it is for all crowds. Reinventions of language and lore. I would love to watch it again
I saw this with a good friend who collects transformers with me, and also went to see it with a friend and she’s never seen a single TF film and we all loved it! Definitely helped show me it’s a good movie on its own as I’m such a deep fan I was worried I was just loving it because it was a good TF film. But it truly is a good film without the franchise attachment
Watched this film last weekend with a theater full of kids, one of the few times of me getting teary eyed at a cinema (at the cave bit), absolutely loved it. Wanted to watch again to help the box office, scared of maybe not liking it as much on second viewing, went to watch it again anyway, still teared up, knowing it’s a certified classic for me
I didn’t have high hopes for this because I wasn’t that big on Toy Story 4 which was the previous Josh Cooley directorial. Now my view on Cooley as a director has completely shifted
I do personally buy D's sudden turn. As someone else who always believed in the rigid rules of society, that those above knew what was best for us and acted honestly, to be confronted with that not actually being the case; it's kind of world shattering. I think a lot of people, especially us younger ones, sort of take it for granted that authority is to be questioned...But there are exceptions, and D I felt was one of them, same as me. I was totally cool with it because I had felt the same.
17:27 THANK. YOU. I've felt that too for quite some time now as a Transformers fan! Like i swear if i had an AU of my own, i would immediately set the lifetime of an average Cybertronian to like 100k years
Honestly, the idea that they're functionally immortal leads to some problems that become hard to write around. You really mean to tell me that the war has been going on since before the dinosaurs existed, Animated Ratchet? Yeah, they're robots, and they can replace their parts as they get damaged and all that, but there's also parts of them that CAN'T be replaced because they're biology and not technology, _Animated Ratchet._ So realistically, even if they live a long time, it shouldn't be this time abyss that IDW loves to dredge up whenever they can.
@@OtakuUnitedStudio just trying to comprehend this whole thing annoys me right now lmfao. We really need some transformers media that directly explains how time works in the Transformers without making it like.. idk.. the whole existence of the universe.
Took my nephew last weekend. Hes the same age as I was back when I saw TTM in the 80s _ he loved, I loved it and its mint to share this passion with him. Great movie. Looked visually stunning.
Optimus in Latin = "Best / Very Good" and is the superlative form of "bonus". Prime in Latin is First. Ultra Magnus is another transformer named in Latin (Beyond Great). Megatron's fall was a bit more extended - you can notice the change in eye color each time he falls a little further. Starts off yellow and from the second act starts falling so that by the time he has an unquenchable thirst for revenge against Sentinel, Optimus getting in his way when he wants to kill Sentinel and stopping him actualizing a decision (Optimus trying to control D16) is enough to push him to let go.
Thanks for the shout out! I LOVED this movie and it hurts to see it's not doing all that well in theaters. Would love for this to be the "fresh start" continuity that Hasbro goes with for the foreseeable future. With sequel movies and even a animated series with seasons filling in the gaps between said sequels.
I kinda loved that The Transformers were beings that have lifespans that were millions of years and makes me anticipate what we’re going to see once Transformers THREE comes to the boxoffice! In my head cannon, I think thing’s will happen on their world that leads to The Autobot and Deceptions traveling off-world, half to Nebulos and half to Earth, with the same passage of time coming into play to make this become endless warfare between two alien factions. I know you’ve said that you couldn’t relate to the bots being millions of years old, but that was one of the things that captivated me as a kid, and still does today! Made me almost wish we were as durable. 😉
Saw it with a friend isn't a big Transformers fan like myself but they really enjoyed the movie. Enjoyed the characters and were able to follow along with the plot without asking me later any lore questions related to the movie that would cause confusion while watching. Also a thing I like that doesn't get talked about much is how they both get their faction names from the same situation Orion and D-16 found themselves in. The Autobots are those who have taken back their autonomy and the Decepticons are those who are no longer going to take being deceived by figures like Sentinel Prime.
I think the reason Megatron's descent into evil didn't strike me as rushed is how thinly veiled his compliance at the beginning of the film is. You can tell he WANTS to believe his suffering serves a greater good, and that his leaders have everyone's interests in mind, but is nevertheless dissatisfied with his powerlessness. If you take away that person's faith and simultaneously GIVE them power, it makes sense he'd rise up and take action.
Excellent review. Definitely owning this one on Bluray. As far as Megatron goes the foreshadowing was there in how exhaustive, and taxing his relationship with Prime was becoming. I've seen the argument the movie would have been better had Megtron saved Prime instead of letting him fall, but to be fair I don't think that would have even been a possibility given how severely he was injured. Prime was already dead before he hit the bottom. That and the line Megatron delivers at that moment was on point. I find it hilarious Thew is probably one of the few people who remembers Hemsworth from Ghostbusters 2016. I literally forgot he was in that.
Really enjoyed this version of Megatron. Dude saw his whole world and its heroes revealed as lies. I bought that rage and I really liked that dude’s voice work. Standout character IMO. Also enjoyed how that tired mute trope with Bumblebee was mocked. Saw this with my wife in a theater with just us. As a “normie”, she enjoyed it. Man, all the kids were there for Wild Robot… that’s the one getting the kid $$$
If there's one thing I want future (mainstream) Transformers media to take away from this, it's that you don't need human characters for the audience to relate to if you humanize the robots. I think this is arguably the most human Cybertronians have ever felt outside of the comics, and they're all the better for it.
I really love that in this movie Orion was all for overthrowing the oppressive government. In previous incarnations he’s always been trying to enact change incredibly passively, and for once seeing a prime that goes “actually we do need to stand up and fight” is so nice
The thing I liked about Bee in this movie is they made him talkative and annoying BUT never had him be too annoying for us as the audience. He only really annoys the other characters and so he got to retain his charm and actually get a lot of laughs. Also helped that they knew when he should talk. So after big dramatic reveals Bee would be quiet and simmer in the scene like the others. And that's just one bit in a whole movie that I can't express enough love for. If things don't go our way, and the box office numbers kill transformers movies WHAT a movie to go out on. What a high point for transformers films. At least we got this one to enjoy for years to come.
You know things were going Pg-13 when megatron said he'll straight up kill sentinel. "kill" is a word thats rarely used outside angry bay prime. I still would have liked to see more of their tech, infastracture, advanced transmorphing alien life. Instead we got floating roads and admittedly amazing recoordinating chaotic train scene.
Yeah no, this was MAGICAL, I had resigned to never leave a movie theater after a Transformers movie feeling truly happy, just adequate, but TFOne was FAR beyond anything I could've expected.
I saw this in IMAX at the Toho Cinema in Shinjuku. The one with Godzilla outside. Then, I went to the Transformers 40th anniversary exhibit the next day.
17:00 lol THANK YOU THEW! I have thought the same thing so often. Everything in TF happened millions of years ago, nothing ever happened like last week or something.
The film is such a surprisingly great thing that it'll be the first Transformers film since 1994 that I'll pick up as a physical release. They nailed it.
When I see it for the first time, I like it, when I see it the second time, I really like it, when see it the third time, I really really like it, and when I see it for the fourth time, I love it
6:50 I think that's actually where seeing it on the small screen later is _helpful;_ those big fight on a big screen are spectacular, but impossible to follow when they cover your whole field of view. Scrunch that down onto a TV, and it's less of a _job._ 7:50 You are correct; they did indeed show us that Cybertron is Primus. 19:00 Let's face it, this "movie universe" has _never_ really had a continuity, has it..? But yeah, brilliant film. Finally saw it on the _official_ release day last week, gonna see it again with my mum tomorrow afternoon...
The fact that Keegan does the voice for both Bumblebee AND Toad, I think he has made his stand in our hearts. I didn't want to accept it at first, but he did those two characters so much justice!
I watched TF one with 2 of my friends! They're both California born and raised. Meanwhile, I moved here from Alaska at 16. So we were like bracing ourselves as the bots reached the surface. And when we finally saw it, my friends were like "ALASKA?!"
Honestly, I loved how Alpha Trion gave D-16 Onyx Prime’s cog. Onyx Prime was the most spiritual of the Primes, being akin to a ranger or a druid, a hunter in touch with nature. While all of the Primes were wise, and willing to share their wisdom, Onyx, as a warrior mystic, was the wisest of them all. Alpha Trion saw the rage of D-16, and while he agreed with the sentiment, he feared what that rage could bring if left unchecked. Thus, D-16 was given Onyx’s cog, as Alpha knew that Onyx is more capable of controlling anger before it could control him, as a warrior druid. However, D-16 never got the time to find the wisdom needed to moderate his emotions, and when the cog of Megatronus Prime was his for the taking, he discarded Onyx’s cog and replaced it with Megatronus’, physically and figuratively rejecting Onyx’s wisdom and substituting it with a tyrant’s heart. It is also important to note that Megatronus remained good, but his cog was sitting in Sentinel’s chest for the last fifty years, so D-16, now Megatron, had done to Sentinel what the false Prime did to Megatronus. And with that, Megatron was so lost in anger he became what he despised. Also, Megatronus’ cog is Dark Energon purple, unlike the other cogs. Even the other Primes have blue cogs. Could it be that sitting in the chest of someone as unworthy as Sentinel has caused it to become corrupted? Or was Sentinel using Dark Energon to make himself more powerful? Also, did Megatronus come in contact with Dark Energon? Was he corrupted and transformed into the Fallen, who served Unicron, until the other Primes were able to bring him back to his senses, the only thing remaining of that corruption being his discoloured cog? Or did Unicron infect him with Dark Energon, only to find out that the noble heart of a Prime is able to turn the power of darkness into a tool for good? Or did Primus allow him to have a purple cog, just as a request of benign vanity?
16:09 was thinking about the use of cycles as a metric of time in sci-fi based off of this. Like in WFC Starscream tells megatron “It will take a few cycles before we can reach you,” which ends up being like a couple of minutes, vs its use in One where I guess it means years? Lol don’t describe what it is, just infer what it means and use it for everything.
You've pretty much summed up my thoughts, so I'll just say: It was really refreshing seeing Optimus not brutally murder someone in a Transformers movie for a change.
@@sideways3458 Haha yeah. But considering the designs of the "Vehicons" I kinda just assume they're drones. That scene was awesome though. Really loved how they utilized transformation in combat like that. Very creative!
@@Kalhiki Yeah, the choreography was amazing. My mind was blown when I saw him shred that mech by merely converting.. not something I'd ever considered possible. Starscream used his jet mode thrusters quite well, and it was cool with how Elita moved so smoothly. Can't wait till blu-ray releases!
A good line from a bad Transformers movie is so much better now that we've seen it in full. Megatron: We were _brothers_ once! Optimus: ...Once... -Transformers: The Last Knight This movie is _that_ line.
Also my personal head canon (that I know isn't going to be true but I will enjoy anyway) is that "Badassatron" is actually Hubcap, not Bumblebee. Hubcaps dreamwave bio states "He is enthusiastic and aggressively friendly in everything he does." He has everyone's friendship but nobodies trust. Badassatron fits Hubcap way more than Bumblebee. And Hubcaps a con artist. What better con than to make his onscreen debut tricking us into thinking he's the franchise mascot? The reason he was down that hole is because it's a metaphor for how he is the forgotten mini car of G1. Even Bumblejumper has had more appearances.
I’m glad we can all agree the unicorn gag from Cyberverse was amazing All seriousness, my only issues with this movie were very nitpicky. Just because it wasn’t 100% IDW But all over I loved it and I would love a sequel
I adore this film. I wasn’t going to see it as the trailer put me off. I was “here we go again more flippin align continuity stuff” But the early chat from Thew and Sixo changed my mind. So glad I did go. My sister absolutely loved it too. We are both in our early 40’s for context. I feel they needed to maybe hold back the release for another year so there was a bigger gap between this and ROTB.
Cool little cameo: I think you see Minimus Ambus near the start?~ I mean, it's a pretty generic design so it might be a coincidence but I genuinely can't think of any other skinny white & green transformers it could realistically be so I choose to believe it's a nice little nod to IDW's MTMTI~ ^_^
im giving ya a thumbs up plus cubed for the RTJ shirt lord thewy thewyton the third. ( he who is keeper of the nostalgia and constructive descriptors of the fiddly converting plastic robots)
Excellent review. I finally saw it and I was well pleased. It had big boots to fill and it filled them adequetly. For reference, I'm not a fan of the Michael Bay films, of which I could only tolerate 2. I got put off by the first trailer I saw and purposely avoided any other. However, I did also get put off by radio ads touting "fun for the whole family" as I knew it needed to be an emotional origin story. I'm glad you had the same nitpicks as me too, as well as the geeking out.
80s kid here, loved transformers as a kid still do today at 46 😂 ANYWAY I thought this movie was very cool 💯 ALL these years It never even occurred to me Orions name becoming Optimus came from his endless "Optimism" 🤯 I knew the Prime part but idk he's so iconic and the name just totally fit and sounded cool I never gave it any thought 😮 that's my dumb comment..thanks 💀
I really do need a second viewing or for the home release to come out now because I was too busy finding my favorite characters in the background than paying attention. lol
Just saw this movie the other day and... Holy. Moly. Loved it more than I should have. Also? Nerdy observation from myself, but anybody notice how the overall design and coloration of Sentinel Prime not only echoed his Animated colors, but also Dezarus/Deathsaurus because of his "wingcape"?
I was finally able to watch this one now that it's released on digital. I think it was great! The story was good, the visuals were great, I, honestly, can't wait to watch it again. As Thew mentioned, I too found Megatron's arc to be a bit quick but reading through some of the other comments, upon a rewatch, it may make more sense.
Love your thoughts on the movie (which I loved), but I just wanted to show my support for The Night Begins To Shine. That episode of Teen Titans Go was absolutely incredible. It was good for the same reasons as TF One too. They took it seriously (even though it was still funny)
The rail system in this movie: Tracks extend infinitely from nowhere, and presumably retract at the rear, but we don't see that. If the train is supported by the tracks, and the tracks by antigravity, why bother with the tracks? It's not like they're extruding temporary stanchions to the buildings on the sides, like Spider-Man or Frozone. (*Not* animating such a thing may simplify scene design: CGI movies often render elements at different depths separately then composite them together.) IIRC, this resembles the insta-tracks used by Team Bullet Train in CR/RID (2001). On Cybertron's surface, the tracks resemble the Laser Lines gimmick from "Sky Commanders" (Kenner/Hanna-Barbera 1987) which similarly served to navigate a mutable landscape.
Im not saying we went out to see it this weekend purely so I could watch the review and make sure nothing's spoilt... but... we watched it. She loved it, I loved it. There were a ton of moments I thought could be done "better" - mostly the *IM MEGATRON NOW* bits, but overall it's probably the best "movie" we've had since the Live Action stuff started... and that's not to shit on *some* of the other movies, but it's just a much better production altogether. I too, can't wait for the blu-ray - if not purely so I can confirm who all the bots in the background were. :P
I don't believe there's any consistency in regards to "cycle". Sometimes, they'll say, "Wait a cycle.", which kind of implies "Wait a second." But other times they refer to it as a solar cycle, which would imply a year. Then there are times where it seems like it means a day.
SPOILER WARNING I think starscream's voice fixed itself after it was broken, when he yelled all hail Megatron it didn't have the filter Also i love his line "The story of a unified Cybertron is a *myth*!"
Revenge of the fallen shows the original primes died on earth and showed they looked like Temu Bionacles. TF:One establishes in black and white that the primes were on cybertron. This alone makes it impossible for it to be a prequel
It was a good movie. I have my personal gripes with celebrity actors take voice roles, but the cast did well for the most part. I also thought it felt fast. Could've used a separation scene or a campfire scene. But overall, the energy is good, and I can't wait to own it and share it with my son when he's older.
Oh yeah, I noticed them say "cycles" too :/ I assume it's meant to be a year, in this case, but that's a little confusing 'cus I'm pretty sure previous shows & movies have used the term 'Solar cycle' to mean year, while 'cycle' on its own means day or maybe hour...? Maybe Sentinel was just using shorthand? but, if it does mean year, I'm quite happy with that~ 50 years actually feels like a reasonable amount of time, on a human scale - It's still in living memory for a few old people but a whole generation or so of people have been born & reached adulthood in that time~ I guarentee previous shows & movies would have said 50,000 years instead, just to make it sound cool & ancient without any concern for how excessive it is~
One thing I NEVER see anyone bring us is how Iacon's buildings come from the floor and ceiling, almost looking like stalactites and stalagmites! Which makes sense for an underground city.

Huh, neat! See, this is why I need to watch it again on a loop for at least a fortnight
I completely agree with this! Subsequent viewings made it really clear how bottled-up D is in the beginning. He was a bottle of soda all shaken up, and him learning the truth is what finally popped off the cap.
The part where he throws the fault on himself for getting punched by Darkwing and makes excuses for why it was deserved really stuck with me.
I love how we’re back to Optimus being “strong enough to be gentle” instead of the warmongering “give me your face!” Optimus.
IKR. Not to mention we finally see the extrovert, sunshine, outgoing, true optimism demeanour that he had in the G1 series made its grand return after 4 decades.
Aside from Unicron Trilogy & Animated to an extent, I find the other versions of Optimus Prime feel too stoic, serious & melancholic, which made me kinda hard to relate to them.
remember all the bots Orion murdered without hesitation after gaining his cog? remember that one he hugged and mid transformed to rip him in half?
@@xscaralienx9398 I guess those are just mindless drones, so Orion's okay with destroying them.
@@xscaralienx9398 It's okay because Michael Bay's name isn't on it. As long as he's not part of it, and he looks like G1 Optimus, he can be as violent as the fans want and they'll love it.
You didn't watch the movies did you? So wrong it's hilarious.
4:35 - Orion translates to 'Hunter' and Pax translates to 'Peace'
Orion Pax translates to *Hunter of Peace*
Interesting! I always thought it's just some random name Hasbro came up with since it matches Optimus Prime's initials.
Thanks to you, the name Orion Pax has way more meaning now, & perfectly fits him too! 😍😍😍
‘Orion’ doesn’t literally mean ‘hunter’, it’s just that there was a hunter in Greek mythology named Orion.
@@Cybermat47 true, though the Greek 'Arion' means warrior.. if I recall correctly. Still, peace hunter, fits quite well
I went into this expecting a Rescue Bots-level story. I was pleased to have gotten a Beast Wars-level story
I would love a TV movie on Nick Jr for the kiddies that was Rescue Bots good honestly. Could be a fun time and a nice little side dish
Beast Wars? Nah. Perhaps Animated though.
Exactly
@@DeathInTheSnow More like TFP. After all Tf One took a ton of lore from the Aligned continuity (TFP takes place in the Aligned continuity)
@@pepita2437TFP also ignored all the aligned lore and ultimately screwed it all up
One (hah) thing you forgot about Thew, which may change your mind a bit back in Starscream's favor, was that the shrieky G1 voice was only used for a single bit.
Really loved how much transforming was incorporated into combat
THIS THIS THIS! If they don't transform during combat, this is just a generic robot movie with a TF skin on it. It's why Rodimus vs Galvatron is so good.
& not to mention, this is also the first time they incorporated the toyetic designs into combat:
Like OP snapping off Megatron's turret, only for Megatron to snap it back on like it's nothing.
I heard that as "i have a semi for Chris Hemsworth"
I mean
I do
A semi for Hemi
Agree that the 'big thing' happening 50 years ago was a good choice. So much of our actual history that we consider important wasn't actually that long ago, but still gets misremembered and misrepresented. Adds some realism and relatability to the silly robot movie.
Yeah, the Vietnam War was still raging in 1974. 50 years later in 2024, and for many of us it’s distant history that isn’t fully understood.
@@phillipthorne8363 you explained it way better than me. Bravo 👏
Legitimately the transformers film I’ve been waiting my whole life for
I don't want humans to never come back, i just want humans to be INTERESTING, damnit! Like, imagine if there was a noire detective investigating a string of crimes, only to get roped into the Autobot/Decepticon war
I want the humans to never come back.
@@kray97 I want them to be better, personally.
Agreed. We've had PLENTY of stories already that showed how the humans either can be interesting or grow to become interesting if given the chance.
The wife and I watched it opening weekend and loved it. I'm a Transformers fan and she couldn't careless. We both enjoyed it.
I'm so bummed it isn't doing well,. This movie blew away my expectations! It built so well that by the end I was totally blown away!!
"It's a Transformers movie that loves Transformers."
Yup.
17:27
THANK.
Can agree that TF One is The movie for TransFormers's 40th Anniversary year.
TF One really needs at least two sequels.
Took my nephew last weekend. Hes the same age as I was back when I saw TTM in the 80s _ he loved, I loved it and its mint to share this passion with him. Great movie. Looked visually stunning.
7:25 The Night Begins to Shine! From Teen Titans Go! Nothing to be ashamed about. That ep was awesome.
So awesome, they made a tv special out of it.
I like when Elita tells Pax “you don’t have the power *or* the touch”
I watch this movie in theatres on the day it premiere September 20th, and as a casual Transformers fan I gonna say “I Need That”.
Loved it when Aleta one refers to them as Go Bots as an insult lol
Glad I'm not the only one who snickered a bit, whenever they got talking about their "cogs".
Loved this movie, btw. Seen it twice!!!
Absolutely loved this movie have already seen it 4 times and plan on going again soon
13:26 For some reason, Skywarp in this movie sounds like he's voiced by Seth Rogen.
Orion Pax translating out to 'hunter of peace' actually does map quite well onto OP's personality, to be fair.
I will say my personal favourite choreography is megs transforming his fusion from his arm to shoot Pax from his back as he was tossed around
i watched it in 4dx.
my body was not ready for 100 minute rollercoaster.
I loved the last scene (during the credits) - Megatron and the High Guard becoming the Decepticons
@19:40 what is this song?
13:35 funny cause Redwing is actually in the film lmao
I like how badassatron would not stop talking
The film is such a surprisingly great thing that it'll be the first Transformers film since 1994 that I'll pick up as a physical release. They nailed it.
When I see it for the first time, I like it, when I see it the second time, I really like it, when see it the third time, I really really like it, and when I see it for the fourth time, I love it
6:50 I think that's actually where seeing it on the small screen later is _helpful;_ those big fight on a big screen are spectacular, but impossible to follow when they cover your whole field of view. Scrunch that down onto a TV, and it's less of a _job._
7:50 You are correct; they did indeed show us that Cybertron is Primus.
He's basically playing a more neurotic Toad.
I watched TF one with 2 of my friends! They're both California born and raised. Meanwhile, I moved here from Alaska at 16. So we were like bracing ourselves as the bots reached the surface. And when we finally saw it, my friends were like "ALASKA?!"
These past three months have felt like a million years. That's how long a million years feels like.
Or did Primus allow him to have a purple cog, just as a request of benign vanity?
this movie is awesome, and like little detail, like megatron eyes became red gradually, as story unfolds
7:25 More like that Neon Synthwave designs you always see with the striated sun/moon in the background and polygonal landscape.
I mean... that guy who got butchered into scrap by Optimus transforming was pretty brutal as heck, if you ask me...
[[I know what you mean though.]]
-Transformers: The Last Knight
This movie is _that_ line.
If you translate Orion Pax into English it's:"Hunter Peace." That makes me chuckle.
I tried figuring out who Darkwing’s buddy was and it turns out he has no official name in the credits…sad
My head cannon says it's Dreadwind
I’m glad we can all agree the unicorn gag from Cyberverse was amazing
All seriousness, my only issues with this movie were very nitpicky. Just because it wasn’t 100% IDW
But all over I loved it and I would love a sequel
I adore this film. I wasn’t going to see it as the trailer put me off. I was “here we go again more flippin align continuity stuff” But the early chat from Thew and Sixo changed my mind. So glad I did go. My sister absolutely loved it too. We are both in our early 40’s for context. I feel they needed to maybe hold back the release for another year so there was a bigger gap between this and ROTB.
Cool little cameo: I think you see Minimus Ambus near the start?~
I mean, it's a pretty generic design so it might be a coincidence but I genuinely can't think of any other skinny white & green transformers it could realistically be so I choose to believe it's a nice little nod to IDW's MTMTI~ ^_^
im giving ya a thumbs up plus cubed for the RTJ shirt lord thewy thewyton the third.
Yes but: it looks cool
Im not saying we went out to see it this weekend purely so I could watch the review and make sure nothing's spoilt... but... we watched it. She loved it, I loved it. There were a ton of moments I thought could be done "better" - mostly the *IM MEGATRON NOW* bits, but overall it's probably the best "movie" we've had since the Live Action stuff started... and that's not to shit on *some* of the other movies, but it's just a much better production altogether. I too, can't wait for the blu-ray - if not purely so I can confirm who all the bots in the background were. :P
People hating the 13 while I was just sitting there giddy that the 13 and primus were on screen 10+ years later. Absolutely nuts.
I thought D16's fall to Megatron was better depicted than Anakin becoming Darth Vader.
Unrelated, could you imagine Optimus Prime and Megatron as Run The Jewels?
I don't believe there's any consistency in regards to "cycle". Sometimes, they'll say, "Wait a cycle.", which kind of implies "Wait a second." But other times they refer to it as a solar cycle, which would imply a year. Then there are times where it seems like it means a day.
Underperforming is something of an understatement. It's looking like it will be lucky if it makes its budget back.
I absolutely loved this film from start to finish! It left me wanting more 😁
Sounds good. I'll certainly get it on dvd when it comes out. I tend not to go to the cinema. I like to relax on the sofa with snacks. 🖖🙂
Cycles was a term used heavily in Transformers Animated, I think Decacycle is equal to a year.
SPOILER WARNING
I think starscream's voice fixed itself after it was broken, when he yelled all hail Megatron it didn't have the filter
Also i love his line "The story of a unified Cybertron is a *myth*!"
Alright gents, its murder and mayhem 101. Be sure to crush your enemies.
Oh yeah, I noticed them say "cycles" too :/
I assume it's meant to be a year, in this case, but that's a little confusing 'cus I'm pretty sure previous shows & movies have used the term 'Solar cycle' to mean year, while 'cycle' on its own means day or maybe hour...?
Maybe Sentinel was just using shorthand?
but, if it does mean year, I'm quite happy with that~
50 years actually feels like a reasonable amount of time, on a human scale - It's still in living memory for a few old people but a whole generation or so of people have been born & reached adulthood in that time~
I guarentee previous shows & movies would have said 50,000 years instead, just to make it sound cool & ancient without any concern for how excessive it is~
Can't wait to see it now ! Before I was nonplussed, you pushed me to plussed!😂
