Hey guys, welcome to LOST BITS! Where I will cover unused, unreleased and unseen things in various games! Back with another Sonic video and, we’re hopping right back into the original Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis ! At the end of last year a “new” prototype was shared publicly by both the Hidden Palace and Cutting Room Floor. This long sought after prototype contains a bunch of really cool changes previously only seen in pre-release screenshots, as well as a bunch of cut content to boot!

Fun fact: The game 10 Super Jogos released in Brazil has Sonic 1's Press Start text issue fixed.

@@satyamSaha It didn't really fix that, all it did was add 2013 SEGA and the Tap Screen to Start to the title screen, and the menu was replaced with the same text string in the Sonic 2 mobile port's 2013 remake.
@@TetraBitGaming sonic 1 is probably my favorite game along with sonic 2 and 3 & knuckles, it is neat that the prototype was found, do you like movies? I am asking for an important reason
I can probably see why they changed Spring Yard Zone’s prototype background to what we have now, it is very distracting to see these beautiful flashy signs.
I agree, it's kinda hard to look at. I think I'd get a headache trying to go through that.

My favorite change is that spikes don't kill you, meaning that the spike bug doesn't exist! :D

Edit: In Green Hill act 1, if you continue standing on the checkered ball near the start, you can get it across the bridge
You can also clip to the end using the ball
The sounds around 19:00, it sounds like they were gonna add some sort of arcade things. There is the pac man background noise, some atari noise, and arcade sounding sounds
Fun Fact: The Sonic 1 Title screen is off centered by 8 pixels to the left in the final version

Theres even an very ealy version of the sonic game where green hill was in the dark
The "by a whopping 6 pixels" jump height thing really got me lol
it's no joke. getting the shield before the lava section in Marble is impossible when you're 6 pixels off.
@@ultralowspekken I was just comin' down to say that. That little difference makes EVERYTHING. IIRC Knuckles can only jump that high, that's why he can climb. He can't jump as high as Sonic or Tails.

I can't believe we actually found this. I'm honestly so happy that we even did. I heard that it's took almost 30 years to find this. Truly Amazing video game history.

It is in the final Japan Version
If you press on the title screen: C C C C C C C (7xC) Up, Down, Left, Right you can hear a ring sound.
Wait to the Demo and hold in the Demo: A B C and D-Pad Down. Sonic died. Hold A B C and D-Pad Down at the SEGA Logo and the Japanese Credit Card and wait.
Keep these buttons pressed until the title screen appears. Then you can let go of it and the "Press Start Button" text will appear.
Only works in the Japanese version!

When I was younger, I had this theory that suggested that Sparkling Zone was actually in the city in the background of Spring Yard Zone. I nicknamed it "Sparkling City."

the special stage control is basically the only improved thing sonic 4 did

One sounds like the spindash/ rolling

my speculation for those brick areas in labyrnith zone is that was planned for open areas without water so Sonic could breathe. they were probably taken out because the devs couldn't figure a way to properly work those sections in with how the water was coded. if i remember right, that's where air bubble locations were ultimately placed

Fun Fact: The unused SEGA logo was later re-used in the mobile ports of Sonic 1, 2, and CD when they were updated to be part of "SEGA Forever"
We really need to find that 1990 Tokyo Toy Show build of the game, it seems to have been FAR different from the base game and could possibly have some groundbreaking secrets.

One more thing about the title screen sonic is actually a More light colored blue compared to the final release

If that was the motivation. I think that the Devs are wrong. I mean sonic 1 isn't REALLY that brutal with the difficulty. But if you game over you go all the way back to the beginning. I think they should've let that in or at least put a limit to it.

I reckon the time-travel looking effect when running through a giant ring was probably an early transition into the Special Stage.
Very happy that this prototype was found and excited to see all the differences between the final game, one of my fav videogames of my childhood

Scrap Brain Zone Act 3 was originally rumored to be a full level instead of going straight into the "Final Zone" boss, as it looks like you were to climb up the whole thing until you got to Robotnik and fought him in the final battle.

I love watching Lost Bits! And I also love Sonic! Learning about the differences in a newly released prototype build just makes me happy to see the love that fans have for this franchise.

In Carnival Night Zone in Sonic 3, those moving platforms can be moved much quicker by pushing up and down on the d-pad
7:30 or, y'know, back to the future.
Fun fact:The Giant green hill ball remains unused in the Mobile port of Sonic 1 and can be spawned in using the debug mode...but theres a BIG difference in the mobile version:The giant ball actually works as intended and isn't that glitchy.
The ball rolls around down slopes and when you stand on it...and it can crush badniks and crush you too! Meaning these was made more dangerous

They should've included Sonic's victory pose atleast for the mobile port.

The prototype background for labyrinth zone would've made the level less stressing

Just so you know the Sega logo at the start of the prototype is what is used for the mobile games, it seems they just took out the animation. This might be fake just so you know 🤷🏾♂️ (but I want to have my hopes up)
its hidden palace, how is it fake? the sega logo here was used in loads of other genesis games BEFORE the ports.

This prototype is 30 years old and was once owned by a gaming magazine. My theory? First an employee takes the cart home because nobody kept track. Then he dies and his cumsprite discovers it in their inheritance.
