Just bought a Kansbol and took it for its maiden voyage in the George Washington National Forest. It did everything I needed it to do. It really does feel good in your hand. The blade was super sharp from the factory and I was super happy with it. I got the orange knife in case I ever dropped it, it would be easier to spot.

Yep, your definitely right about the Kansobol. The Kansobol Mora all the way, hands down for the quality and price. Best bang for your buck. Another great review Sir
Mora 2000 was designed as a hunting knife. The compound grind (thin tip) is there to make it easier to skin game and cut sinews in joints. It was quickly and lovingly adopted by all kinds of outdoor people. The kansbol is basically mora 2000 3.0. The mora 2010/bushcraft forest being the 2.0. The garberg is fashioned after the mora 2000/2010/kansbol, not vice versa.
Anyone looking to purchase their first Mora would do well to watch this review . Thanks Aaron , as always , for this very objective , honest and practical assessment of these outrageously popular bushcraft / survival blades . I actually like the sheaths on my Moras (regular Companion MG & High Q Allround) but would have to agree that the belt clips are a bit awkward and less than ideal . Since I usually carry my Mora inside the pack (always rocking my mid-size SRK instead) , the clip isn't really an issue for me , but instead have added a hi-vis paracord lanyard , girth hitched around and through the belt clip hole , that is highly adjustable for length , so that when in camp it can be used as a dangler , a neck carry , a tree hanger , etc. Perhaps someone might find this carry mod idea useful . It has definitely improved things here ! All the best . Glenn

Will be putting to the test in next couple of weeks on upcoming hike at Linville Gorge. Thanks for your great advice. Will keep you posted on my first experience with the Kansbol
Kansbol was not in my sight radius until after I watched this excellent video...twice. Price to performance on the Kansbol, coupled with my intended use, make it the better choice for me. Thanks for a basic down to Earth presentation.
Great video. I love the Kansbol. As an addition to the line-up I want to suggest the 510. This little knife is very capable and is remarkably strong. This ultra light and compact knife can do almost everything the compagnion can do . It's the perfect e.d.c. or backup blade.
I agree with you. I needed two knives one heavy duty all purpose utility knife and I needed a knife more geared to bush crafting tasks. For bush crafting tasks I chose the Kansbol for a utility knife I chose the Gerber Strongarm. Worked out to be an awesome combination.
A great knife, but prefer the black for ergos and pointier tip. I use the hammer grip for 99% of cutting tasks so i don't really care how it feels in my hand for the occasional other type of grip.

Great video! Your assessment of the Mora Kansbol was spot on. My first Mora was the Eldris, my second is the Mora Garberg carbon, absolutely love both knives. As I was unpacking the Garberg I knew this knife was special. Keep up your great videos.
Had the garberg stainless in like 3 years now, just got the one in carbon almost 1 week ago, took it for some walks and really, I am inlove with it, I can feel the difference in the steel it is amazing 👏
Excellent comparison video! The only downside of the recommended best Mora, is that perhaps should have recommended more of its food prep capability at the expense of knife tip strength. All in all, however, a number of excellent points and a fine analysis. Very important point on construction material differences. Keep up the Great work!
I have the companion heavy duty and so far it seems to be an incredible quality knife for the money. It comes with a dull micro bevel, that I immediately ground down to a 25-degree edge. Now that it is sharp it's a great knife in my opinion.
The Companion is also available in orange and black. Also, the sheath harks back to their original purpose as knives for on site, fishing, etc, so you can attach it to the pocket of a shirt, safety harness, or whatever. Attach it to your torso and you are more likely to realise it has gone missing. That said, I love my Kansbol. The companion stainless serrated is my choice for use and value (but I don’t whittle or dress game). I know serrated blades aren’t cool, and definitely fall short in some areas, but, for utility, it works for me.

I have the heavy duties three of them. For three different packs. Also I have the Kansbol. And I've done a lot of work with all and they're both really great. But like everybody else you have to love the handle on the Kansbol. No matter what you can't go wrong with a mora knife
I’ve had several Mora carving knives, a Kansbol , a 5/11 and I just got a stainless companion with a rubberized handle . I have done some nice finish carving with the carving knife and I like the little 5/11 and I really like the new companion it’s so sharp and does food prep great 1/8” tomato slices and chicken just fine . Of all of them the Kansbol is my least favorite, I can’t seem to sharpen it !

I "recently" did an inventory of my knife collection, which contains several brand names. I hadn't realized it, but so far I've amassed 12 Mora knives! I was amazed, I suppose that I just can't keep away from quality and reasonable prices.
Hi, I got many Moras, but after a short time I sold a lot of them. My favorit knifes are 2, the Mora Kansbol, I got 2 different colours in green and orange and the new model of 2019 the Mora Companion Spark. The Spark fits cool in my hand, got size 10 in gloves, and you got the firesteel in the handle, it´s the big brother of the "light my fire" knive which had corperated with Mora, but they don´t sell this knife any more. All you need for camping or hiking or light bushcraft is the Companion Spark with a very sharp spine in my opinion !!! Good channel, good videos, keep rollin man, like it. Greetings from germany. Rob
Great video. I own some really great knives, but unless I need something specific then the Kansbol is pretty often my go to knife. Knives are quite personal, but I think this is one of the best value knives I’ve used for ages.
I LOVE my Kansbol, its the first Mora ive ever owned. I agree with all the points you made and I even like the "goofy" cuts near the tip of the blade. Next purchase will be a Garberg but im not sure if I want it in stainless or carbon.... tough decision.
I will partially agree. Out of the one shown here, you really can’t go wrong with any, but I would take the Kansbol over the other. If you’re looking for a Mora, though, there are some now great models from the past that should be looked at as well.
I would agree with your decision on this. The Garberg is cool, but as you said, for regular camp tasks, you don't need a huge beast of a blade or full tang. Multi-mount system is cool too.
For sheer value for money and useability it is definitely the best Mora knife. I enjoy using both my Garberg and Kansbol knives. I use the retention strap and the belt loop by securing them with bicycle inner tube into which I push a ferro rod giving me fire starting and tinder for emergency use. I carry each knife on my black and OG 5.11 Rush 72 packs in a P90 double magazine pouch with a folding saw. Great video, please keep informing and entertaining us.
Kansbol is probably the best overall Mora for the average user, but the best for the money is undoubtedly the Robust. $13 for a knife you'll never manage to break without a severe lapse in judgement.
I like my bushcraft black. The handle isn't perfect but it's a great knife for fire prep and removing material. I can't break it, having used my foot on the handle and smashing the blade through huge knots.
I love the vintage laminated steel Mora knives that you can sometimes stumble upon. Current production laminated steel Mora knives are good as well, but I like to think that the vintage ones are just a tad bit better. They are also completely ambidextrous and the laminated steel makes for easy upkeep of that scandi-grind. Personally, I also like the old school 510 (the new 511 is ok, too), especially for the price and the 440 (Scout model, sadly discontinued) as well as the Mora 106, which is hard to beat for a dedicated woodcarving knife.
Hello good, a question. When sharpening the Garberg you do it according to the scandi angle or you do it by the microbevel that comes from the factory. Thank you!!
I have the Mora Garberg I wanted a full tang bushcraft knife and the option I purchased had the leather dangler with the ferrosium rod attachment and sharpener on the same attachment it has served me well for the 2 years I've had it for it was the Stainless Steel blade to boot as I live in Wales one of the wettest places on earth I personally have ever been to ha ha.
Excellent video,my friend in my humble opinion the Mora Garberg is the best value and best for hunting.I'm a big Scandi knife fan eg. Mora,Helle,Eka and I have two Bark River knives a few Buck and Gerber. But when I'm going hunting it's two Garbergs I bring, great knives, stay safe.
I always liked that blade shape of the Kansbol , I first discovered it years ago on my Cold Steel Piece Makers , the 6" version is Awesome and they are only around $28 ....👍🖖
Right now I am down to one Mora. Gave the rest away over time. Which one have I kept? HD Companion in carbon steel...Oh and I use a simple diamond hone to put a 90° spine on all my outdoor knives. Takes about five minutes in a Mora....Edited: Bought more Moras of course!
I personally love the Mora Pro C and the Eldris (with the multi grind). And yes, the C stands for carbon. The Eldris is in 12C27 though, but I like that steel as well.
From the Mora web page...so straight from the horses mouth "Mora Robust This knife is designed and intended for Scandinavian construction workers. Here, our priority is a sharp and durable edge with a good grip, which means that the look of the spine isn’t a high priority feature. You are more than welcome to use any of our knives for your intended needs, but keep in mind that the spine will be “raw” (not grinded) on most craftsmen and construction knives. Therefore, it’s not compatible with a fire starter." Even the Mora company is perplexed about you people using a craft-knife as a bush-craft knife. The Robust is meant to be used by construction workers and is not to be relied on in a life and death situation....Just saying :p
My favorite is Companion. Like you said, Bushcraft handle is awkward for those times you do power/shoulder pull cuts. I think I'd be more sold on Kansbol if it rocked the 14C28N instead of the 12C27N. Can anyone confirm if the Mora 2000 also is 12C27N??? They have a special edition going on
I concur. I especially like it as a hiking and fishing knife - lightweight, versatile in both use and carry, supremely ergonomic, and with the high temperatures, humidity, and salt in my environment, easy to maintain.
Moras are like razor blades. They are mass produced, cheap and nondescript...but they work, and work well. If you lose or break one, it's no big deal and it's not something you're going to hand down to your kids. Like potato chips or peanuts, you can't have just one. Get a bag full of Moras and put them wherever you're likely to be, or go. Great companion.
Aaron I think you are spot on with saying the Kansbol is the best Mora according to all the criteria you mentioned. I personally own several Moras and I do find when I am going out for a day or up to a week it's always the Kansbol that I choose to take with me. It's almost like an updated Mora forest and the combination grind is awesome for camp chores as well as skinning game.
My adult knife collection started with the Bushcraft Black. I haven't used it in awhile. Pulled it out today to prepare wood for a fire. Damn, what a good knife. Does most everything great. I'm thinking about picking up a Kansbol or an Eldris.
👍 Good video. You did a very job defending/explaining your choice on the best value Mora knife, while admitting it was not your favorite Mora knife. I was surprised the Mora Classic 2 and 3 were not in the comparison. I would argue the Mora Classic 2 is the best value and with the new Classic 2(c) with a full length tang (not available when your video was made) I would say it is also my favorite Mora knife. But, personal preferences aside good video.
My GoTo Mora 90% of the time 'had' been the Bushcraft Stainless Survival Orange package. The other 10% was mainly ice-fishing with the 2000 or the collaboration Light-My-Fire. Bushcraft Black tactical in Moly just in the collection. Since obtaining Garberg 14c28N --- it is the #1 carry 90% of time mixing it up w/ the Eldris on occasion. I have the Kansbol... but it mainly hangs out in multi-mount as part of my Mora appreciation collection. If I had to say what is the best MORA (and only 1)... I'd say go Stainless Garberg in Leather Sheath. Multi-mount is only a good selection viable to reliable retention when creatively modified. IF the 'all-arounder best was based on 'value' with multi-mode capability... Companion, Robust , and Craftline HighQ Allround. 'Best' for little detailed task #1 classic & 511.
I own a regular Companion, & my Kansbol arrives today..I also have the Kbar 1211, the SRK San Mai, the glock Knife, the Prodigy Gerber Fine edge, & the Cold steel Outdoorsman Lite in German 4116 with the plastic sheath, the Cold steel Luzon 4 inch blade..
This is a great video (and channel) and really nailed the different Moras. I have several (Companion, Bushcraft Black, Garberg, and Eldris) and find that I really like each of them, all for slightly different reasons. Kansbol is next on my list.
I could not decide which was better. So I bought both the Kansbol and the Garberg. But, if I had to go with only one of the two, I'd pick the Garberg. Mostly because it does better cutting through the breast plate of a deer.
Really like my kansbol. Have been looking at Garberg but can't decide between stainless or carbon. I know the pros and cons of both but hard to make decison
I literally just ordered the bushcraft black on amazon, then canceled my order and went with the Kansbol about halfway through this comparison lol. I would also prefer the full scadi grind of the Garberg but don't really want to spend double just for a better looking blade
Spend the extra 50$ you saved on a kershaw camp 14 or10. I got a kansbol also, but I have other bigger choppers to do other stuff. The garberg is to expensive not to be a true tactical knife at that price point.
The Kansbol also got a better (imo) basic sheath and a perfect, 90 degree spine. Just saying. I still got the 2000 - love it, and for 10 USD or so less than the Kansbol I argue it’s the best value ever. By the way, the special blade design of the 2000/Kansbol is for skinning/flaying. Not that it’s bad for food prep, but it’s with that in mind it was designed. Hence the 2000’s popularity among (Scandinavian) hunters.
great video, thanks. i saw in Mora Sweden that the Morakniv guys apply special heat treatment to their blades. so you can say that the 12C27 is like 1095 after that. really tough and sturdy.
@@1800moonSugar thanks for the info. one more question : the Sandvik 12C27 and 14C28N come in knives from all over the world. they have different HRC coming from different factories. the occurance of chipping is different, too. they all claim it's due to their heat treatment. so what is it ?
I find myself being drawn into the Kansbol camp ... mora and mora (chuckle). A Kansbol for camp kitchen and general purpose, a Companion HD for banging around in the bushes .... and something else, another knife. What could it be? I'm thinkin' a Mora 105--smallish carving blade with birch handle. For fooling around the campfire at night, carving a totem pole, or canoe, or whathaveyou.
I like the video. KNIVES are so personal opinionated. I like the fact that the kansbol not ur favorite but in ur opinion it's the best for the buck. I like ur reviews. Thx
I know this video is a bit dated but I just ordered a Kansbol. Mine is orange and comes with the survival kit. It will be my kayaking knife. My Bark River Crusader I just got is a tad heavy lol.
Just got my kansbol in the burnt orange color . It has quickly become my favorite knife , and personally I love the look of the blade profile , although I do know it’s not going to be as durable as a regular scandi grind
Kansbol is good, but the Classic 2 is better. Ergonomics are good with both, the blade on either can do the same work, and the cost is much less. The thickness of the Classic 2 spine is strong enough for “knife chores” and can easily filed to 90 degree angles. Outside the Classic line I do agree the Garberg and Kansbol have the best ergonomics and of these the Kansbol is best. Fancy steels are nice, but has a Mora Classic 2 ever broken due to poor steel?
The Kansbol is in no way my favorite and I've invented ways to hate it...but at the end of the day it's the only mora that's in my kitchen and my most used kitchen knife and the only one with a fool proof safety sheath in the draw. So for $35 bucks, if you don't like it or feel comfortable w/ it as your outdoor knife (non fish/hunt of course) it still has a life and a purpose!
Honestly, after using a bunch of Moras over a couple years, the heavy duty companion in stainless is the best. The sheath on the Kansbol is bad, no clip and no thumb ramp. Same with the no ramp for the Bushcraft Black. The Robust is a decent package but it's too small.

Rob
I have 3 and I still want one Mora.
Let me know the day you loose the mora companion sheath by any of the ways suggested.
I was gonna say. I can't get these things off a belt to save my life.
Great video. I own some really great knives, but unless I need something specific then the Kansbol is pretty often my go to knife. Knives are quite personal, but I think this is one of the best value knives I’ve used for ages.
The fact the Garberg is full tang makes it a better and complete knife, in my opinion...
Agreed. The Kansbol is fantastic. The Companion Fire Starter is great but the kansbol tip and length nail it.
I LOVE my Kansbol, its the first Mora ive ever owned. I agree with all the points you made and I even like the "goofy" cuts near the tip of the blade. Next purchase will be a Garberg but im not sure if I want it in stainless or carbon.... tough decision.
go for carbon. tougher, but needs to be sharpened more often. gets a wonderful patina after a few years. Edit: spelling mistake
Harrison Lichtenberg absolutely... just on pure Value, the Robust is the winner.
Or the basic...
been using Robust daily for two years now and cant agree more with your comment. although i do like my bushcraft too :D
I believe considering all aspects, Kansbol is the BMW of Moras.
I love mine.
Thanks for very precious review and all those precise comparisons.
Yeah but the garberg is the rolls royce of moras ; )
@@darrenlamb5640 can’t agree more
I like my bushcraft black.
Thank you!!
Will this thinner blade do well for baton whacking to split wood and chop?
Totally agree. All dandy knives. All do the job. All reliable. Kansbol has all the attributes but adds lightness and utility.
I prefer the Pro-C and Pro-S
I really like the one in collaboration with Light My Fire.
Wish you would mention the slots on the back of the sheath is for a button. But as always great video.
I thought you said it was perfect for witchcraft. Had to relisten to hear woodcraft
I just gave my Companion to my nephew and ordered a Kansbol for me. I'm waiting forward to get it.
I personally love the Mora Pro C and the Eldris (with the multi grind). And yes, the C stands for carbon. The Eldris is in 12C27 though, but I like that steel as well.
From the Mora web page...so straight from the horses mouth
"Mora Robust
This knife is designed and intended for Scandinavian construction workers. Here, our priority is a sharp and durable edge with a good grip, which means that the look of the spine isn’t a high priority feature. You are more than welcome to use any of our knives for your intended needs, but keep in mind that the spine will be “raw” (not grinded) on most craftsmen and construction knives. Therefore, it’s not compatible with a fire starter."
Even the Mora company is perplexed about you people using a craft-knife as a bush-craft knife.
The Robust is meant to be used by construction workers and is not to be relied on in a life and death situation....Just saying :p
After seeing the DBK boys hammer one of those things into a tree stump and stand on it, though, I'd trust a Mora Robust in a life and death situation.
Man, why you peeing in everybodys cornflakes
Thanks Aaron for your reviews of Mora knives. Please keep them coming as new models come out, like the new spark model.
How far does the blade’s tang extend into the handle ?
Great video. Garberg all the way. Although I do have HD Companions in all my kits as a backup/camp knife.
In my opinion the Mora Pro has the best handle. Similar to the Kansbol, but better imo. 😁
Great demonstration of the different capabilities. I agree that Kansbol is the best tool for the money.
I use Kasbol and Companion Standard in S. But the Pro S also lands in my bag quite often.
Really like my kansbol. Have been looking at Garberg but can't decide between stainless or carbon. I know the pros and cons of both but hard to make decison
the 2000 has the same blade
and the handle is a classic oval
I love my HD Companion. Upgrading soon though. I'm thinking ESSE 4. Suggestions?
Stick with the Mora and spend the money on another Mora and a Pizza.
I really like my companion, and I've been eyeing the kansbol. The garberg looks really good, but it's a bit pricey for my blood.
I fully agree, the Kansbol is definitively the best Mora knife when comparing price to performance.
Have everyone forgotten the Mora 2000?? It is maybe not as cool looking but in my opinion it is by far the best
@@1800moonSugar thanks for your reply. so please correct me :-)
@@1800moonSugar thanks for the info.
one more question :
the Sandvik 12C27 and 14C28N come in knives from all over the world. they have different HRC coming from different factories. the occurance of chipping is different, too. they all claim it's due to their heat treatment.
so what is it ?
I find myself being drawn into the Kansbol camp ... mora and mora (chuckle). A Kansbol for camp kitchen and general purpose, a Companion HD for banging around in the bushes .... and something else, another knife. What could it be? I'm thinkin' a Mora 105--smallish carving blade with birch handle. For fooling around the campfire at night, carving a totem pole, or canoe, or whathaveyou.
Spot on analysis. I still like the bushcraft black best. mmmm love that hammer grip!
Love to see you do a review the MSK1 like to see what you think of it.
Just got my kansbol in the burnt orange color . It has quickly become my favorite knife , and personally I love the look of the blade profile , although I do know it’s not going to be as durable as a regular scandi grind
Remove the rounded spine does not require a belt sander. I do it with a course AR stone.
17:22 watcher in the woods ;)
Does the molly sheath fit the companion?
