I think so. The Garberg is too thick for slicing jobs. It’ll work but the Kansbol is fantastic for most tasks. A Garberg with a Kansbol backup is ideal but if I could only choose one, it would be the Kansbol. I noticed that your knife, the Snake Eater, is similar to the Kansbol. I could see it being a useful knife.
I’m 48, owned a lot of knives. I only recently bought a Mora. It’s not this one but the companion I think and I can attest, best 15 bucks I ever spent. Besides maybe my opinel. They’ve both become my go to knives any more. The opinel is excellent for food prep or cutting an apple and the mora is just tough.
I have used the Mora 2000 for over ten years on my boat. No complaints ever. This year I have added the Kansbol. We sail the archipelago in southwestern Finland so there are campfires and saunas quite often. Here the Kansbol gets all the stars, the sharp spine for scraping birch bark, sparking the fire steel, the best. Splitting down kindling, food prep and just plain whittling, a joy. Best value on land or sea. Thanks for the great video.
The Mora 2000 is the greatest knife of all time in my opinion. Better handle than the Kansbol. Bought my first Mora 2000 in 1997. Seems a lot of people online doesn’t know the Mora 2000 is issued to Swedish soldiers. Fantastic knife!
Also the drainage holes can be used to attach as a neck knife. The leather sheath for the Garberg can also be purchased separately for use as an upgrade for this awesome knife
I completely agree, James. The combination of versatility, ergonomics, sheath/carry options and design, weight, cutting characteristics, and price, it's unmatched. It's an easy pick when going hiking or camping. Heck, it's an easy pick around the kitchen too.
The kansbol has become my favorite garden/ forage knife If I tuck it in my front pocket to stop the sheath from flipping thisaway, thataway! The stainless rolls a bit on root stocks and ground stems but is easily rolled back with a diamond flat rod sharpener. Best slicer for vegis! My green is stealthy and blends with camo geer!
I bought this knife on a whim one time and have been a huge fan of it ever since. Was probably one of the sharpest out of the box knives ever. I bought a 2nd just in case I lost this one.
Yes. Kansbol is excellent. Very versatile, even more so since there is multi mount available as options if you fancy that. (Does cost extra!) My second favorite is probably Mora Companion, in my opinion a super value of a knife with comfortable rubberized grip and usual mora scandi blade.
A long time user of Morakniv products. Though I had 8 various Moras, last week I ordered a Kansbol. When it arrived and I began to look it over, I clearly see why so many people speak so highly of it. A very impressive design, combined with the worldwide known Morakniv quality. Living in the woods of East Texas, I'm surrounded by pine, oak, and cedar trees. I am now going to be carrying the Kansbol into my woods and make use of its well thought out features. Great video and information about this knife. It was a deciding factor in my buying this knife. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this enlightening video about the Morakniv Kansbol. It inspired me to treasure and respect my knife Kansbol. Blessings to You my friend.
Amen to that. I bought Kansbol unused second hand for €20, very sceptical about the combo grind. I came to love it so much for the reasons you so well articulated. I have many expensive fancy, hand made, even custom knives with much better steels, but Kansbol is my favourite.
I found mora knives few years back and absolutely love em!!! I carry at least one in my long haul box truck and always have a smaller one in my bug out road bag and usually a full sized one too. I gifted one to my neighbor and you thought he done won the lottery!!! Lol. He loves that mora knife a lot and carries it and keeps it near by him and wife at all times he says. I’m so blessed with as my neighbors all these years❤️ love your videos brother!!!! I think I have like 4-5 five of em few at apt and couple with me on the road lol.
Owning it now. It is an excellent Knife. And you are absolutely correct. About the uses of the grind. And take it from someone who is owned well over 100 blades. And destroyed half of them learning how to sharpen. It is an excellent bang for your buck. And there is most definitely something to be said for stainless. God bless.
It's a great knife for the money. Spot on accessment. I mate mine with an Eldris that has the same perks, just in a smaller version. I love the orange color because its easy to spot if you happen to drop it.
Been binging Mora videos lately trying to decide which to get. Your video Sir is so thoughtful and well spoken. Thank you for your concise approach to this Review.
Thanks for the video! I also think that this is a wonderful knife with a universal blade geometry. Here, in Siberia, it is also perfectly suited for many tasks. Sincerely, from Russia.
I use this knife to make Balogna and Goverment Cheese sandwiches. Im sure all yall know how hard it can be to slice 10# Goverment Cheese blocks, but this knife goes right through like butter. The mustard and mayonaise washes right off the easy grip handle. I love this knife and so does everyone in my Trailer Park. The pointy tip makes opening the stubbern pop tops on beer cans too! Buy this knife you wont regret it a bit. Sept it aint made in America.😁😎
Good video on a great knife. I actually have come to really like the sheath. I can wrap it in extra paracord and gear tape for backup, super lightweight, and the drainage holes can be used as blow holes to help give oxygen to fires.
Thanks Junkyard Fox for the great review and the great music. When I was a young man living in Alaska, I would carry a large thick Bowie knife for wood processing and a second very sharp flat grind blade to skin and game process. The best of both worlds. This Kansbol seems to have both these features in one knife. It is a bit small, but the price is right. Thanks again.
I feel like the Kansbol is Mora's attempt to make the perfect outdoor knife, whereas the Garberg is more a gimmick to appeal to the full tang survival market. The multi grind makes it so much more useful for multiple tasks, as well as the thinner blade material
I bought my Mora Kansbol und the Mora Garberg with the Multi-Mount Sheath. That give you some various options for carrying the knife, also with mole or with a secure strap.
you are spot on with your judgement I have one for two years now and it has seen some use its just great. I also own the mora 2000 with almost same blade and the garberg all stainless ones. I have a bunch more knives . however I love the mora knives for their maintenance friendliness. Great video , keep the good work up. greetings from Königswinter , GERMANY.
The kansbol can baton, gut fish and game, process wood, whittle, and do every camp task. My favorite knife. I go to this more often than my OKC RAT knives
I agree 100% I hav had one for yrs & continue to use it. Luv the multi grind. My camping knife does a lot of food prep as well as wood work. At Camp I always hav the kansbol & an expensive custom knife also with a multi grind similar to the Kansbol. Especially at deer Camp someone always wants to borrow a knife. I hand them the Kansbol & they always ask where I got it. It's a grt knife, especially for the price.
Nice rewiew👍 i have skinned moose with my Garberg ang found the blade slightly thick but usable for the job. Used the eldris for loosening the diafragm.. outstanding! normally i use the Eka swingblade but somethimes i forget witch knife i bring around. Skinned a deere with mora 2000 once, that was a joy to work with but got lost over the years. Will order a kansbol now…👍
I have 5 moraknivs. They're so cheap and dependable so I just keep getting them to put in places I'm likely to need a knife. I keep one on my roll bar in case I need to cut out of a seatbelt, one in the boat, one in my gear bag, one by the door, one in the back of the Jeep, and I give them out as xmas gifts quite often too. I have all stainless except for my bushcraft knife is carbon
loved my mora... until I bought the Condor Terrasaur this year...sharper... slightly larger.. full tang! first wild camp of the year I didn't bring me hatchet.. batoned all my fire wood down with the condor..
I love my Kansbol. I carve a lot of spoons and spatulas. The Kansbol can handle different types of wood soft or hard. I also like taking it with me in the woods. Thanks for showing us, take care.
A trick I was shown with the Garberg is shoving a bicycle tube over the handle. It makes it much more secure in the sheath and gives you a much better texture.
I have some inner tube on my Sch 52 and it is much better. It passed a bit of girth, it is comfortable, doesn't slip, and is especially great when using it as a chopper. I dont have inner tube on my Moras though. Their handles are comfortable and my Moras are not used for chopping.
I went to buy a Kansbol about a month ago and they were selling Mora 2000 anniversary additions (exactly the same but black handle and sheath) for £24 delivered. Couldn't resist. I prefer the 2000 handle, I know some find it too thin. I always have a Victorinox Farmer on me for scraping tasks so the rounded 2000 spine isn't an issue. As regards the Kansbol type blade, usually a Jack of all trades means you have to compromise somewhere, not here, it pretty much does everything you need it to. Good stuff!
Love mine. Paired with the Eldris its great. It'll food prep, it'll do kindling, it'll do curls, it'll ferro, it'll do kitchen. Hint...get in the HABIT if taking care of your cutting tools every time you use them, then when you get a carbon steel Garberg etc, you'll do it without thinking. Your knife is great man😁
I agree with all your points. I do love my Kansbol because its a very good all-around knife. It does everything very well. I have batoned wood, carved tent stakes and prepared food with it. I have also struck a Ferrell rod against the spine. I'm sure there are knifes that do some of these tasks better, but this one does them all well enough for me. Good video !
I use the Mora Eldris, 2000 and Kansbol all are worth owning. I have other knives much more expensive to; the only real difference is mostly appearance. Thick full tang knives are not a necessary or a major important value. I never found any knife as easy to sharpen as one with a scandi grind. Proving otherwise is hard to do.👍
Personally if I had just one knife to take and survive on I wish I knew what brand it was but it's a Chinese meat cleaver I picked up at an Asian food store a few years back. High carbon steel, easy to sharpen, holds an unbelievable edge, processes food like a monster, sparks a rod, back side is squared so it scrapes scales/wood like crazy, chopped small trees (about 3" diameter), and have baton with it though the handle kept me worried while doing it (no side effects from it). The only two negatives I can say about it was that it doesn't have a sheathe (made some with plastic) and rat tail tang (it's still durable, though I'd feel much better if it was full tang). I've visited that store a few times over the years and they never restocked this particular model after I bought it otherwise I'd buy a few extras (I have other meat cleavers, but this one seems to be the best among the ones I own and the cheapest at the time).
A Very nice well though out video You haven't convinced me to replace my Dark Timbers or my LT Wrights but I may pick up one to live in my emergency kit.
I’m not saying this is the ultimate knife ever. But it’s great for beginners or to have as a backup knife. How’s great in bug out bags, fishing kits etc
Growing up quite close to Mora in the 60s, I remember the Mora knifes well. Everyone had them, it was like Falu rödfärg. I didn't even know they were made for anything else than workman's knives. Or exported. It was a surprise to see a generalized Morakniv also used for cooking etc, instead of getting a specialized knife for that. I wanted to say -- thanks for a trip back to my childhood. :-)
A practical knife is always better than a show knife. This Mora is an excellent field knife, but my everyday knife is a Victornox DeLuxe Tinker fitted with tulipwood scales. My woodworking toolbag knife is the humble Stanley 10-049 that locks securely and is feather-light when carrying a load of tools.
Hi, Junkyard Fox! Great presentation! And I think you're right in that the Mora Kasbol is a super knife with great versatility. The following is just my opinion, which probably isn't worth much. The one major drawback with the Kansbol is that the blade is only 2.5mm thick stainless steel. Whereas the Mora heavy duty Companion (at roughly half the cost), is 3.2mm thick stainless steel. Of course both models have that nice scandi grind blade (the Kansbol has the partial scandi, which helps to make this knife more versatile than the Companion HD is (hence the added cost). Also, the Kansbol SS does sport a 90 degree spine to facilitate great ferro rod sparks (unlike the Companion HD). However, the added thickness of the Companion HD is much more trustworthy for batoning wood in a pinch, plus it can and perform heavier bushcraft work overall. So even though the Kansbol blade is considerably wider and just slightly longer than the Companion HD is, I'm hard-pressed to justify the Kansbol's dollar-for-dollar value over the HD Companion. One more point: the Kansbol has a drop-point blade shape--not very conducive for an emergency self defense thrust, whereas the HD Companion has a more of a clip-point blade shape--very effective for a self defense thrust. On the other hand, I find that the Kansbol handle feels more comfortable and secure in my hand than all my other Mora's. Cheers!
Mora Kansbol is a great knife. Love too the Mora Forest and Condor Terrasaur (if you prefer Carbon Steel 1095) . This knives are budgets everyone want to cop.
I have Mora backups. You gotta live a Mora. My latest is the Companion Heavy duty in military green. On one of my videos I shave off my beard with a Mora. PS My stainless steel Mora developed a couple of rust spots. They might be from the shaving experiment.
You’ve convinced me to get it” Amazon prime” I just got the Mora companion the other day, like the knife, but the sheath does not lock as tight as I’d like it too. Thanks for the great review
Whats your opinion on BPS knives .Great video i prefer stainless ,especial with the modern steel ,moras steel can produce sparks off the spine but not as great as a carbon ,God bless you and your family 🙏. Lee
I wouldn’t advise a new by get this knife because of the 2 grinds on the blade. Start with a single grind and learn to sharpen it before moving up to 2!👍
It really isn't two different grinds, in fact I can't tell for sure if they put the edge grind on before they thin out the front of the blade or vice versa. It is just thinner at the front, so the edge grind does not extend up as far. It really is still a scandi grind of the same angle, on a thinner blade, so it is narrower. You should not do anything different when sharpening each portion of the blade. Granted, if you are trying to do a "true" scandi, holding the whole main grind flat to a stone, it will be harder to feel when you are on that flat in the narrow portion. But the blade has a "micro-bevel" as some call it, so you have a long way to go to remove that, and it will go a lot quicker in the narrow part. I prefer to profile the "micro-bevel" back a bit, but still retain it and use a slight "lift" off the stone to sharpen, which means absolutely no difference in technique or difficulty across the length of this blade.
Thank you. I’d like to see how it would do having that multi grind, running it down making a fish fillet. I would assume it would be hard to get a good even fillet.
I just got mine today! because of you haha,It just came in the mail today and it's badazz! it's the orange one. it went on sale and I had too get it. I seen your shows and it's been in a bunch of them and you have told me how much you love it.
@@JunkyardFox only thing is I wish I would have waited to find out you were selling them the rest I buy is going threw you guys that's why I did patrion as well. my dad loves your partners music he can't wait to get it. But I'm planning on getting more of this knife as gifts. it's so much fun already, I love it a little more then my eldris right now haha! It's feels tough as nails well made.
The Mora Kansbol is truly an excellent knife and a great value. I've used mine for several years now and it has performed quite well for a wide variety of bushcraft tasks.
Well you convinced me, I can't decide on the color so I'm getting both lol and using your link! I always thought that compund knife grind designe was silly and a gimmick but the way you explained it for skinning and cleaning fish game etc. makes alot of sense as that is one issue I have with a scandi ground blade vs a flat grind like my essee blades. I have and love moras especially the bushcraft black, the mora chisel, the fillet knife and a small carver that I have. They are so lite weight and low cost you can carry an armada of them in your pack! Guess I'll be carrying at least one more!
Nice knife. I really like the dual grind blade. I have just bought the Garberg in stainless and the Companion in stainless as well. But I never knew about the Kansbol. I like stainless steel blades the best, because I am not good with carbon steel. My first Mora in carbon steel rusted up a lot and I don't want to have to oil the blade all the time. Plus, I always have a ferro rod some where on me, so using a rock to catch a spark on a carbon steel blade will hopefully not be an issue (hope I did not hex myself, saying this). I enjoyed this video. Thanks.
Great video. I just ordered one of these knives, and then found your video. What a great informative video this is, I can't wait to watch your other content with my female partner. I've just subscribed. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge with us all!
Hey folks! Don’t forget if you’re ordering a Kansbol to use our link, as it helps us find more adventures: bit.ly/3rTJFOa
Hey Junkyard Fox! Well I’d be better off getting two Mora Kansbol instead of one Mora Garberg?
I think you overlooked one thing it's the blade finish which is beautiful stonewashed !!
At $33 I am in love with it .

yeah those are some grat brands. and the kansbol somehow manages to be a sturdier version of those 2 blades combined.

Yes, the Kansbol is a great blade for the reasons stated. Always love multigrinds. I don't like plastic or rubber handles but it's still great overall

Yes. Kansbol is excellent. Very versatile, even more so since there is multi mount available as options if you fancy that. (Does cost extra!) My second favorite is probably Mora Companion, in my opinion a super value of a knife with comfortable rubberized grip and usual mora scandi blade.

i've been trying to choose my first mora but this has convinced me that i need the kansbol
Having a full tang knife is not a gimmick
I cut a small slot into the spine to grab hot pot handles. I love the blade

This video answered a lot of my questions... I'm glad I watched it before buying the $80+ knives. This will do just fine for a beginner.
Oh yeah I cannot recommend this blade enough
I totally agree! I love it so much.
My Kansbol does every thing I need. I did start making a kydex sheath for it. because I hate how the stock sheath flops around. Love the knife.
Will order a kansbol now…👍
the kansbol is defintely the better slicer and skinner
I Luv my Kansbol as well and it pairs well with the Eldris neck knife!
I have 5 moraknivs. They're so cheap and dependable so I just keep getting them to put in places I'm likely to need a knife. I absolutely luv my Kansbol & I don't think you mentioned the sheath is ambidextrous & can be set up for L or R handed use!
He did
Being a Lefty, I really appreciate the ambidextrous sheath.
Just bought the survival kit set for my upcoming longer bike tour. Dont know that its that popular.
Now im happy with my purchase :)
Thanks a lot. Good reasons for your selection. It's a great knife for the price. No doubt.
A trick I was shown with the Garberg is shoving a bicycle tube over the handle. It makes it much more secure in the sheath and gives you a much better texture.
@M. S. Sorry for the misuse of words, "coercing" would be a better word.
I have inner tube on my SCHF 52 it is much better, even when wet, and help po s my hands when chopping with it.
I have some inner tube on my Sch 52 and it is much better. It passed a bit of girth, it is comfortable, doesn't slip, and is especially great when using it as a chopper. I dont have inner tube on my Moras though. Their handles are comfortable and my Moras are not used for chopping.
Yah agreed with all your points. Kansbol is plug & play with fair price knife 👍
My favorite knife. And if you get the multimount for it, you can get very creative with the way you carry in on your person or on your gear.
yeah i sadly forgot to mention that, also the new survival kit attachment where you can carry a ferro rod on it.
Kansbol is Very good knife!
The Kansbol and the Garberg is always with me in the forest. A perfect combo.
Cheers from Stockholm
Those are great choices. Cheers from Texas!
@@JunkyardFox I love Your videos. Very inspiring
I agree, the Kansbol fills the bill between the Companion and the Garberg. I love my Moras, 23 and.counting.

Hiked 900 miles with this. When every ounce counts it's hard to beat.
Great video. I own a few Mora knives and love them all.
Love my Kansbol. I added the Eldris, tethered to a ferro rod as a dedicated fire starter.
Great review as always, James. I started with a Mora 2000. This was probably 15-20 years ago.

Mora's are amazing. Unbelievable quality. Their blades are as good if not better than some of the blades in the hundred dollar range.
excellent video buddy, you answered all my questions to this mora model before purchasing :) thanks
I agree with all five reasons!
Kansbol rocks the bush life
Personally if I had just one knife to take and survive on I wish I knew what brand it was but it's a Chinese meat cleaver I picked up at an Asian food store a few years back.
Great review! ThanKs ! I agree the blade is awesome!👍
Thank you
You gave reasons that make sense to me.
im glad you enjoyed the vi and it brought back great memories!
Definitely looks like a great budget knife! I have the Mora Garberg Carbon and I love it! Might check this one out for a good back up💪
Don’t be surprised if you find your Garberg backing up the Kansbol. It is that good.
@@kentgreenough75 Dang that's crazy!
I have Mora backups. You gotta live a Mora. My latest is the Companion Heavy duty in military green.
On one of my videos I shave off my beard with a Mora.
PS My stainless steel Mora developed a couple of rust spots. They might be from the shaving experiment.
@@theprophetez1357 Dang I haven't tried shaving with a mora 😅, I'm sure it definitely works though
@@Crafty.Veteran.Survival it worked quicker than a straight razor for me. Check out the short video, it amazed me and might amaze you too.
Best video of the Mora Kansbol I've seen yet! Thanks for the thorough review!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice review, thanks. Will use your link.
Proud of you!
Awesome vid, greetings from Spain. Keep safe!
Thanks! You too!
I love my Kansbol. Your videos and recommendation are mainly responsible for my purchase. Thanks again!
You’ve convinced me to get it” Amazon prime” I just got the Mora companion the other day, like the knife, but the sheath does not lock as tight as I’d like it too. Thanks for the great review
Love the Kansbol i bought a second.
Whats your opinion on BPS knives .Great video i prefer stainless ,especial with the modern steel ,moras steel can produce sparks off the spine but not as great as a carbon ,God bless you and your family 🙏. Lee
I agree with your comments......A knife to use and abuse, sharpen it again, and use it some more.
Completely agree great choice. Not as sexy as a snake eater but it really gets the job done
Cool Video 👍
Thank U for the Info and the Links 👍
Will buy it
100% agree with you, it's a very good knife 🙂
I totally agree with you
I love my Kansbol, great vid bro! Cheers from 🇦🇺
Thank you. I’d like to see how it would do having that multi grind, running it down making a fish fillet. I would assume it would be hard to get a good even fillet.
Another top shelf video from James.
Thank you so much
I just got mine today! because of you haha,It just came in the mail today and it's badazz! it's the orange one. it went on sale and I had too get it. I seen your shows and it's been in a bunch of them and you have told me how much you love it.
Hope you enjoy it! its still a top favorite with me
@@JunkyardFox only thing is I wish I would have waited to find out you were selling them the rest I buy is going threw you guys that's why I did patrion as well. my dad loves your partners music he can't wait to get it.
I’m with you %100 on stainless steel.
Would like your take on the Mora Eldris, keep them vids coming.
Thanks.
Cheers Mate!
For the money its a badass knife!
Great video. I just ordered one of these knives, and then found your video. What a great informative video this is, I can't wait to watch your other content with my female partner. I've just subscribed. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge with us all!
Hope you enjoy it!
I don’t have this one in my collection yet, but I do have the Garberg.
Good video! What a great knife!
Great summary! Could you make a video on sharpening, please? I'm kinda scared of the compound grind ... :)
Great suggestion! ill plan a video soon, its way easier than it looks.
@@JunkyardFox Great! Have fun!
Like the kansbol, but the condor bushglider is just my fav!
I use it as my everyday kitchen knife
