Thank you Matt for making this video! Been having recurring wrist discomfort from playing too much Final Fantasy 14 on PC lol, your site and videos are helping me so much and I'm learning a lot 🙇♀️
Ganglion cysts are BENIGN swelling or accumulation of fluid produce from an adjacent joint capsule or tendon sheath. While it is still unclear as to the true cause of a cyst it is often associated with tissue damage surrounding the joint or tendon tissue creating potential weakness in the tissue allowing for the one-way flow of liquid creating the bulge. The pain associated with it is likely pressure on the nerves near the skin or near the surrounding tissues. Here is what you need to know about treating it - Many (38-58%) disappear without any treatments at all. Doctor's can aspirate (stick a needle to remove it) but they can return as the tissue may potentially still be weakned. Surgery is the gold standard and involves removing the entire complex and then using a splint to prevent it from moving and allowing the appropriate scarring to occur. Cysts often return less often after surgery but can still occur. My recommendation is the following - if it is not limiting you from doing anything and is not extremely painful you can see if it will resolve on its own. If you feel that it is restricting your motion and causing pain then I would seek out an MD to get it aspirated. AFTERWARDS is the most important part. For 1 week I would focus on keeping it splinted and performing range of motion activities to maintain your range of motion. (This is to allow for appropriate scarring and preventing fluid from potentially re-entering the fluid pocket) I would then dedicate the following 4-6 weeks to performing a consistent strengthening and endurance routine to build build up tissue capacity to minimize excess inflammation in the local area which may also cause refilling of the cyst. The bottom line is -> SEE MD first. No need to wear brace for now if it is not bothering you
Exercises start at : 3:30
