At least to me, they did. The other two with Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland respectively felt more like modern Spider-Man. Especially Andrews. While Tom Holland was a mix of both.
Pete chose not to date MJ because of what happened to Aunt May. Goblin figured out who Spider-man was, and then knew how to get to him through his loved ones. Pete couldn't put MJ at risk in case another villain tried the same thing.
@@KC.801 I totally get the emotional motivation behind that decision. All I'm saying is it's a reactionary, not well thought out take to run with - it's not feasible or sustainable (he can't be Spidey 100% of the time with zero ties to society). She supposedly can't be his gf because it might make her a primary target, but that _already_ happened with her just being his friend. And he's still going to remain friends with her?! Also, why doesn't he feel being around Harry or Aunt May would endanger them further? Even if he cuts _everyone_ out of his life, villains could still do what Green Goblin did and threaten the lives of a whole bunch of randoms. Again, I understand the emotional seed of the idea, but it's giving into the trauma of seeing MJ nearly die. Trauma isn't logical, however, and his decision fails to actually make people safer while self-inflicting more emotional damage upon himself. The whole plan's half-cocked.

I just figured out why you guys are my favorite and why you are so much better than other reactors. Firstly both of you are hilarious but secondly, you don’t go on yammering over all of the lines of the movie. A lot of well placed comments or questions throughout but you save the in depth commentary for the end. With a lot of other reactors they are continually talking over the lines and miss important parts which often explain situations later in the film. Great review as always!!! Now go and check out Spider-Man 2 😊
He couldn't risk another bad guy figuring out who he is and going after people he loves, the whole reason for the mask is to protect the people he cares about.
This movie changed movies forever, it created the modern comic book movie craze. X-Men was before this but wasn't such a big hit. The Matrix and Blade were each like half a comic book hit...but this film strung it all together with story and CGI and budget. Fantastic film. I remember seeing this with some buddies. Such a perfect film. And to think Sam Raimi gave us these Spiderman films, the crazy Evil Dead guy..wow. I just want to add that I'm not even into comic book films. I wish they'd go away now. haha
When i was a kid i loved spiderman. I watched Spiderman: The Animated Series religiously and my parents bought me Spider-Man and Venom comics (the first ones being Web of Spiderman #117 and Lethal Protector #1). When this movie came out, it was like a dream come true for me. I was 14 then. To this day im still a hardcore comic fan, with Spiderman, Thor and Daredevil as my favorites.
The people on the bridge saying you mess with one of us you mess with all of us is because 9/11 was less than a year before this movie. In the first montage in his official suit, before J Jonah's first scene you can see the Twin Towers in the reflection of Peter's eyes and briefly in the last scene when he's standing with the American Flag
Part 1 & 2 are great, I know you could argue that Toby was too old to play Spiderman, but Willem Dafoe & Alfred Molina were great villains and J. K. Simmons was epic funny as J. Jonah Jameson.
If you notice right at the end though, when he's walking away from MJ, her face changes and she puts her hand to her mouth. She realizes he is Spider-Man.
BECAUSE THAT IS MACHO MAN☝🏾 RANDY SAVAGE!! ☝🏾☝🏾OOOOOOOOOHHHHH YEEEEEEEAAAAUHHHHHH!! “Bone saw is ready!!” Is a thing me and my wife yell at each other all the time 😂😂😂
The first time Spiderman swings onto scene to fight the Goblin is one of greatest things I've ever seen in theaters. I had an uncontrollable smile. There was nothing else like it at the time. Times have changed, but I look forward to your reaction.
BJ said “It must be your water it just tried to kill me! I am not a fish!” 😂😂😂 I really like this movie. And Mary Jane, and Norman Osborne 🤦🏾♀️ Asia said “He need to stay off that stuff!” 😂😂
There's obviously other Spider-Man movies, but these Raimi ones are the closest to the original comics. Which is my favorite version of Spidey. The 2nd movie is imo still the greatest superhero movie ever made.
I always thought that the reason for Spider-Man’s popularity was that he was just a normal, awkward kid. Even as an adult, he always struggled with balancing the lives of Peter Parker and Spiderman. He had money problems, relationship problems, and family problems just like the rest of us. He was just a normal dude with an incredible gift trying to figure life out.
Peter Parker in the beginning is literally me at that age. The Sam Raimi rendition of Spider-Man is my favorite thus far because - while not a _flawless_ representation of Peter Parker - I feel it's the most authentic of the portrayals to Peter in the comics. And Tobey Maguire _really_ managed to sell the performance.
Fun fact, the man who directed this started out directing horror, and his best friend, Bruce Campbell is in almost all of his films, including this one. He's the wrestling announcer here.
I get a kick out of how Bruce Campbell played a wrestling announcer here, when one of his most memorable roles is Autolycus from Xena: Warrior Princess
The comment section needs to understand that a lot of Asia and BJ followers are in our late 60s so we grew up watching Spider-Man in the 1970s this movie is great
These 1st 3 Spidermans are my favorite super hero movies. With these older super hero movies, you come away inspired to be a better, more courageous person. With the new ones, it basically just feels like a big dopamine rush with lots of colors but no life, and no clear separation between good and evil.
This is not a part of the MCU,btw. These were made by Sony starting in 2002. But, when you do continue the MCU with The Incredible Hulk (2008), eventually you will see this Spider-Man and its awesome. Oh,and you will. LOVE Spider-Man 2( 2004) it's awesome.
Love your channel. Spider-Man was my favorite hero growing up because he was just a teenager. Just for your edification, Marvel heroes usually had problems just like normal people, while DC heroes were more like mythological gods, with exceptions in both companies. I love your reactions, and think it would be a blast sitting down with you to watch a movie. Keep up the good work.
Saw this opening day when I was 12 during an early dismissal day from school, theater was packed, movie was so entertaining, definitely a crowd pleaser
At the end when Asia got confused about why Norman was dead in the bed and she thought he wasnt dead, Spiderman brought him back to his Mansion and put him in the bed . Lol Harry saw him . im shocked yall didnt see him, but when harry tried to grab the gun, he turned back and spiderman was gone . Also yall missed at the end when MJ kissed Peter, she noticed a resemblance to her upside down kiss with Spiderman .
In the DVD commentary of Spider-Man, John Dykstra - head of the VFX team for the film - shared that there were no special effects involved in Peter catching the food, and it was all Tobey Maguire's work - and it only took 156 takes.
I went to a guests only premiere in a early showing before this came out. I read the comics back in the 70s. This really blew me away!! Fantastic movie experience! Thanks for reacting!
The recurring "hostagery" of MJ in this movie gave him PTSD also especially the part where Gobz bombed the shit out of Aunt May's bedroom that's why he was so reluctant to take MJ's love in that moment. PTSD sucks
They filmed much of this movie in my neighborhood... the opening scene with the web... I lived around the corner from that!!! Also saw them filming his first swing (when he hits the wall) and was in the crowd for the festival the Green Goblin crashed! Also.. this is Danny Elfman's second greatest score right after Batman!!!
My daughter's name is Mia, so family refers to this Spiders as Mia's spider-man. Because she was about 3 when this was out on dvd, and she would watch this nonstop! And at the end when the credits would start she would march and dance around the living room to the ending music.
CAUTION: Long post coming.... 😁 I got my first comic book at age seven. It was an early Spider-Man comic, and I was immediately hooked. He has easily been my favorite superhero ever since. I absolutely couldn't wait for this movie to come out in 2002, and I REALLY wanted them to do it right. Happily, they nailed it! Tobey Maguire was great, Willem Dafoe was incredible, and the rest of the cast was wonderful. Special shout-out to J.K. Simmons, who was simply PERFECT as J. Jonah Jameson. I was so geeked out about this movie, I saw it three times on opening day. 😂 Even though I knew it was coming (because of the comics), I got choked up when Uncle Ben died. Such a powerful, well-done scene. They stayed very true to the comics with the story, with only a few slight deviations. I didn't care for the Green Goblin's costume (and a lot of people agreed), but Spider-Man's costume was fantastic, and visually the movie is stunning. It made over $100 million over opening weekend (and this was before theaters were doing showings the night before), the first movie to ever do that. Your reactions were great, and I 100% want to see a video of you two doing the upside-down kiss. 😂 Please keep going with all the Spider-Man movies: Spider-Man 2 is considered one of the best superhero movies ever made, Spider-Man 3 is not great but still has some wonderful moments and action, Amazing Spider-Man (with Andrew Garfield taking over as Peter) is good, ASM 2 is so-so but has one of the most memorable scenes of any Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man Homecoming and Spider-Man Far From Home (with Tom Holland taking over as Peter) are great, and Spider-Man No Way Home is, to me, almost perfect. Love you guys!! Keep up the great reactions!! ❤🕷
One tidbit, Willem Dafoe was originally considered to play the Joker in the 1989 Batman, but the role was given to Jack Nicholson. So Dafoe was eager to play the Green Goblin.
The spider wasn’t CGI. It was really well trained and they knocked it out to paint it red and blue. I’m sure the spider on the hand was some movie magic but the reason it looks like a real spider is because it is. And I like that Norman tested on himself. It shows he was a decent enough guy before the goblin serum.
Fun fact that part in the lunch room where he caught all that stuff in the tray was done for real. Some crew members were off camera dropping the stuff onto the tray.
Reading Spidey comics back in the 60s and then actually seeing him on the big screen, swinging like we always imagined, was magical.
As a young adult i almost cried.
That’s how the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films felt. They felt like a nod to the 60s and 70s Spider-Man comic books.

I was thirteen by that time and thought I had outgrown all that stuff but sometimes I’d sit down and watch it just for his readings!🤭😆And another thing I was just wondering, Do you go by Ronnie or Ronald because strangely enough, the place I used to race home to was at my friend “Ronnie’s” house next door!! And his actual name was Ronald!!😳Kinda freaky huh!!😬🤭🤣We would sit there right in front of the TV and watch Morgan read Spider-Man and then Speed Racer while we ate tuna fish outta the can with crackers!!😋🤣😂 That’s so cool that you would be the one to reach out to me and you have the same name as my childhood friend🥹😌😊 That is so cool 😎 Take care and may your travels be blessed🙏Thank you for making me remember✌️🫶
We had Superman and Batman movies of the eighties, but comics and conventions didn't really catch on and become mainstream until the 2000s and after this Spider-man was a big success. It opened the door for all of the other super hero franchises we have today.
THIS IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SUPERHERO!! This one is great but SPIDER-MAN 2 IS the PINNACLE of his movies in my opinion!! You definitely gotta do the 2nd one!!
Toby will always be my spiderman ! I grew up with him ❤❤❤❤
Same, I used to always watch the Sam Raimi trilogy as a kid
14:56 that's because it IS Macho Man Randy Savage
The wrestler is Macho Man. And the announcer is the LEGENDARY Bruce Campbell. He's in all of the Rami Spiderman movies.
BJ "it reminds me of the older men; the older father figures trying to give you the game when you young, but you just don't listen"
Asia "He looks like Regis"
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I was born the same year when it came out I started watching it when I was 5 time flies.
"Looks like a busted Power Ranger" and the upside down kiss sent me rolling!!! LOLLLLLLLL
Now go and check out Spider-Man 2 😊
Or reactors who make lame "jokes" every 20 sec. under the delusion that they are actually funny rather than annoying & cringe asf.
I never noticed as a kid but I love how the goblin's glider leaves a smoke trail like the Wicked Witch of the West.
Here's a fun fact. The part where Spiderman catches everything on the food tray was done without special effects. It took a lot of takes.
He couldn't risk another bad guy figuring out who he is and going after people he loves, the whole reason for the mask is to protect the people he cares about.
The first movie I ever saw in theatres and some of my oldest childhood memories are this movie. This was my “Star Wars”
"I'm about to call Harry right now." Lmao yeah, Harry gotta know.
I have the poster they recalled after 911. And they pulled the WTC Spider-Man teaser trailer from theaters.
This is my favorite spider man movie when I was growing up, glad y’all reacted to it
Part 1 & 2 are great, I know you could argue that Toby was too old to play Spiderman, but Willem Dafoe & Alfred Molina were great villains and J. K. Simmons was epic funny as J. Jonah Jameson.
Marvel fans, we need to unite and educate Asia, lol 😂😂 We've got this! 💜
Challenge accepted!!!
Marvel fans . . . Assemble!
Hell yeah LOLZ
If you notice right at the end though, when he's walking away from MJ, her face changes and she puts her hand to her mouth. She realizes he is Spider-Man.
BJ going "Pew pew" like he was shooting webs was hilarious 😂😂
Man still remember seeing this when it came out. Was so awesome. Tobey will always be my fav along with this spidey suit.
This movie holds quite the nostalgic place in my heart and makes me think of fond memories of my friends, brother, and father❤
"A busted green power ranger"
Willem Dafoe hated the costume 😅 Admittedly, the classic Green Goblin costume is kinda silly too...
Back at the beginning field trip, someone points out a Spider was missing from the 16 genetically modified spiders, thats the spider that bit him.
As usual you two are as entertaining as the movie
Y’all gotta do the whole trilogy don’t tease us like that 😂 I’m def investing into the Patreon
Uncle Ben "looks like Regis" got me good 🤣🤣
BJ said “It must be your water it just tried to kill me!
Fun fact: Tobey caught that food for real when MJ slipped, but it took 156 takes.
No, the Green Goblin costume didn't age poorly at all, it looked just as bad 20 year ago. Willem Dafoe as Norman/Goblin however, is pure PERFECTION!
Fun fact, I know op knows this too, Bruce Campbell appears in the next 2 movies.
I get a kick out of how Bruce Campbell played a wrestling announcer here, when one of his most memorable roles is Autolycus from Xena: Warrior Princess
Sam Raimis take on Spiderman is the most realistic and interesting one
The comment section needs to understand that a lot of Asia and BJ followers are in our late 60s so we grew up watching Spider-Man in the 1970s this movie is great
2:42 'Must be your water, it just tried to kill me" almost killed me 😭😭😭😭😭
Same!!! Had me cackling at work
@@QatunQ I was eating popcorn 🍿 😭😭😭
"It must be your water. It tried to kill me."
You two are such a cute couple. Lol
Gotta tell ya.. super refreshing.
These 1st 3 Spidermans are my favorite super hero movies. With these older super hero movies, you come away inspired to be a better, more courageous person. With the new ones, it basically just feels like a big dopamine rush with lots of colors but no life, and no clear separation between good and evil.
Gotta watch all Spiderman movies
This is not a part of the MCU,btw. These were made by Sony starting in 2002. But, when you do continue the MCU with The Incredible Hulk (2008), eventually you will see this Spider-Man and its awesome. Oh,and you will. LOVE Spider-Man 2( 2004) it's awesome.
JK Simmons as Jonah Jameson was the best choice.
You guys should do Spiderman 2 & 3 next.
LOL JK made me laugh
"You didn't have to put the date out there" while i was covering my face with my hands in disbelief.
now I need y’all to watch all the Spider-Man’s ever in order of release for a no way home reaction
And then when you are feeling a little blue over that particular bit of fun having run its course, you'll be ready to step Into The Spiderverse ;)
My man showed his age saying “Regis and Kathy lee” 😂 awesome reaction guys 🙌🏼
This is so exciting!!! Spider-man is my favorite superhero. 😄I hope y’all watch the second too (it’s really good) 😊
I laughed so hard when miss Asia called the green goblin a busted power ranger that was a running gag for everyone
The Goblin is *Green with evil*
Define everyone.
he doesn't look like a power ranger
One of my FAVORITE Spider-Mans of all time!!!! TOBEY IS THE GOAT!!!!!!!!!!!
7:00 she basically described Captain America which was spontaneous accurate when summarized
THE GREATEST SPIDERMAN, AND ONE OF THE GREATEST TRILOGIES EVER.
My daughter's name is Mia, so family refers to this
Spiders as Mia's spider-man.
Because she was about 3 when this was out on dvd, and she would watch this nonstop!
And at the end when the credits would start she would march and dance around the living room to the ending music.
CAUTION: Long post coming.... 😁
I got my first comic book at age seven.
He put her in the friend zone to protect her
This is the best Spidey trilogy imo ^^
The spider wasn’t CGI. It was really well trained and they knocked it out to paint it red and blue. I’m sure the spider on the hand was some movie magic but the reason it looks like a real spider is because it is.
And I like that Norman tested on himself. It shows he was a decent enough guy before the goblin serum.
You are killing it with these uploads lately
Fun fact that part in the lunch room where he caught all that stuff in the tray was done for real. Some crew members were off camera dropping the stuff onto the tray.
I absolutely love the 2nd one too
Spiderman 2 is one of the best superhero movies of all time!
It truly is. The train scene alone is epic.
