What's the biggest mistake you've made during a ride? 😵💫
Plenty... but something that will always live with me is going out for a ride when not fully recovered from a virus and having to take a dump in a layby. Only for a family in their car to stop and have a picnic... And they witnessed it
Not knowing there was a community run scheduled on my ride. After hitting closed roads with empty streets I decide to ride through and saw the runners as I cut through corner and went arse up across the road in front of them. First day with the new pants as well haha, think of it everytime I see them in the wash
Not checking the length of the vavle on my space inner tube, sure enough they were too short for my rims only noticed when I got a flat tyre.
Not wearing a helmet
Hitting the front brakes too hard and suddenly on a new bicycle while commuting to work. There was a small ditch in front of me. I went flying over the handlebars. Injuries on the elbows took months to recover.
LOVE the dynamic between Connor and Manon. Amazing duo!
Manon brought the energy for this one!! Always fun times 🤠
I watched Conor's eating video with my GF...her primary comment was that Ollie was a terrible friend 😆
Agreed. My impression was that Ollie came across as sadistic and just laughing at / egging his colleague on, not really supportive. My take was that he was being a troll.
And that's why we love Ollie, he's a right bastard! 😂
😂 @@alexpeartree2019
Terrible... supportive... it's a fine line 😉
Ollie is beautiful
Si & Dan at the coffee machine. "Let's talk about efficiency today"
Conor & Manon at the coffee machine. "Main talking point for today, all the times GCN presenters looked like idiots on youtube." 🤣
😂
Sorry... were you in the room? 🤣
5:50 "I do have quite weak bones." I see an opportunity for a GCN video on cycling, the lack of weight bearing and bone health, and what we as cyclists can do about it.
Nice thinking! We'll see what we can do. Bone density is something that us cyclists have to look after 🙌
@gcn My own journey to bone health led me to the dark side .... triathlon. Perhaps you can spare other cyclists this fate?
Before I took up road cycling as my primary sport, I was a speed skater. The off skate training for that sport will keep your bones nice and strong, and it’s fully compatible with cycling to boot! Look for a book called “Speed on Skates” by Barry Publow.
Brittle femoral head caused by lack of blood supply to it
Manon’s embarrassing moments, are kinda just more evidence of how hardcore a pro rider she was! What a warrior!
I suppose so, though I hope she didn't re-injure her body when she did that "Matt Stephens" on camera.
160 km with a fractured pelvis? 😬
@@alaire1didn't Geraint Thomas complete a TdF with a broken pelvis?
Edit: Yep, 2013.
Badges of honour really 🤣
Bring back Emma Pooley.
Manon riding 160 km with a fractured pelvis; weak bones, iron will.
Seriously. Fractured pelvis? That's insanity to ride on!
Hard fall
Love the chemistry between these two. More of these two please.
What's next for these two?
Caption: when you finish your race and you then get told you still need to go shopping after.
1:50 Beard Meets Food would be proud of you😂😂😂😂😂
Despite the STUPID things you all do. I speak for the rest of us watching that we appreciate the challenges you do for entertainment. Not only you're all very educational, inspirational, and take the pain for us viewers. I've shared a few of the stupidity myself, but you all have done far and beyond. Just don't torture yourselves for it. There's a limit. At least this show hast a limit and they're doable. Thank you! Gotta love the GCN Presenters!
We do it so you don't have to 🤣 What should our next challenge be? let us know! Great to hear you're enjoying our content 🙌
Great to see Manon looking more like herself and so happy. Great show
#captioncompetition: “Dan Lloyd is my favorite GCN presenter and he’s fit again. Thought you should know”
I love Connor. He’s such a good sport.
Thanks Nalissa and big up for tuning in!
We love Conor too 🙌
A few years back after a crash I rode 15Km to home with a broken arm and a couple broken ribs. At first the arm felt ok but the pain got worse as I rode home. Only after I went to the hospital and was x-rayed I found out that the arm and ribs were broken.
I also had a bad crash a few years later, hitting a car that pulled out in front of me. I hit it so hard that the crank arm was bent in under the frame I was doing about 30Kmh. The result was concussion, a broken collarbone and three broken ribs. As a result of the concussion I now have Tinnitus in my left ear for the last 11 years. Sadly Tinnitus cannot be healed. I did get a new (and better) bike with the Insurence money payed to me. Still riding at 72 without a motor.
Wow! Sounds like you've been through it 👀 Great to hear the love for cycling is still there 🙌
When I was a teenager, I insisted on riding my bike to the beach while my family drove. Riding a mountain bike and dressed for the beach, I missed my turn and ended up climbing a damn mountain ⛰️ 😳 it was hot, I was not prepared for a climb and was far from fit enough to finish the climb. I was in tears as I slogged my way up and up, thinking, that turn HAS to be coming soon. At some point, about half way up, I ran out of steam and admitted defeat. 😑 I rode home sad, embarrassed, and bonked. Having said that, I still love riding and will never quit! 👁 ❤️ 🚲
Manon and Connor, you're both absolute beasts! Very inspirational 👏
And in was in that moment Andrew realised ... he loves cycling 👌
Watching Connor eat all that was reminiscent of watching a snake swallow a large rodent. Poor guy looked so bloated!
Hahahah we're not sure what Conor would make of such a comment 🤣
We need the Tanner episode. Also dumbest thing I did on a bike, doing my best impression of Superman after deciding I didn't need a helmet. It could have been so much worse, but I learned my lesson.
First day of RAGBRAI in 2023, 7 miles in on Day 1. I'm bombing it downhill at 35mph when another rider cut across my path and took out my front wheel. I should have gotten stitches on my hip but that would have meant going home. At first it only looked like the paint chipped on my brand new carbon frame so I continued on riding it. On Day 4 it really started creaking and the "chip" had spread to almost all the way around the top tube. I finished the final 3 days on a different bike. The gash on my hip took another month and a half to fully close up and I now have a gnarly scar. But Trek replaced my frame including the custom paint scheme for free so that was cool.
Caption: "I'm sorry you didn't win, honey. What a Pithie!"
It wasn't cycling, but I slipped on a patch of black ice in my driveway some years ago, cracking a couple ribs, and went skiing all day the next day. I don't know if it aggravated my injuries, but it sure didn't help.
ouch
Hard core. The last time I slipped on black ice I just laid there gasping, laughing and hearing ‘take a look to the sky just before you die.’
this is why we love Conor: he's up for everything!
Thank you - that's super kind! Not sure I'm up for another breakfast though, going to be honest hahah
Hahaha he needs to set some limits... or should we keep pushing?
I think the most common mistake everyone makes is when you change pedals and you put your hands in the wrong place. Even the most experienced of us have wrapped our knuckles around the chainrings.
The pain of skinning a knuckle on a chainring, followed by washing off the oil/grease from the open wound... Ouch
We're getting flash backs just reading this 😳
In high school, way back when, I very slowly rolled over a railroad grade crossing shortly after the rain stopped. I went down like a sack of potatoes, still strapped into my clips. I could have swerved and approached straight on, but no.
We've all done the "hands in the air, finish second" thing.
The biggest challenge you guys could do it would be RAAM. I know you tried couple years ago but someone got Covid. But you guys should do a 4 or 8 team..... love your show.
Fall over clipped in🤷🏻♂️
Ride into a tree at 20 mph because I rode my first “road bike”, a 1980s Motobecane Super Mirage, until both brake cables rusted and snapped….i was on a 1 mile loop right across from my house when two young kids on bikes crossed over in front of coming towards me from a blind spot, (the tree right before the one I hit) right to left so fast that I could only veer right….right into a 90 year old oak tree…I woke up in the hospital with my first concussion ….i was saving up for what would eventually be my first proper bike….a 1989 Cannondale Criterium/Campagnolo frame (blue/white)
The tree was fine
Back in the 1980s when tan sidewalls were the thing - I scrubbed them several times with a cleanser to restore their finish. I found out during a double century about the corrosive effects of the cleanser, when my sidewall blew out exposing the fiber and cords inside - now outside.
Caption: ~whispers~ Tadej is going to try and win more stages
Yes! The best looking Lloyd is on today!
I don’t know if it’s my dumbest moment but probably my most expensive blunder was deciding a deer trail running down to a creek was ridable. Just before the trail met the creek it became a sheer cliff and I went face first into the stream. After that my shoulder really hurt and the friend I was riding with was convinced I had a dislocated shoulder so he proceeded to try to put it back in. Turns out I had a broken collarbone and trying to reset my shoulder wasn’t helping at all! 🤕
Caption Competition: “You are not the only one without their knickers.”
Dumbest things … I’ve done the slow motion fall cos can’t unclip before I’ve even moved at the START of a ride…
Most embarrassing was probably riding into the back of a parked car
Absolutely dumbest was the time I ignored riding companion who told me I was going the wrong way - ended up on the Autostrada in Italy, in a tunnel with trucks zipping by at 100kmh
Noticed my left handlebar plug was coming out mid-ride. Pushed it in, turning my bike sharp right. Just avoided crashing and taking out my riding buddy. Dumb.
1) 40+ years of cycling. I fell over sideways at a very busy intersection last year. I didn't clip out in time. The 100 or so people who saw it had a good laugh, I'm sure. Cracked a rib on the handlebars (all healed). 2) Many years ago, when I was in my invincible early 20s, I took fast turn on a chip and seal farm road intersection. As one can imagine, I took home some chip and seal in my leg.
A+ on that Conor Manon energy.
Yeee haaaww!! Thanks for watching!
During a family summer vacation, I decided to ride my bike to the family BBQ. (It can be quite a challenge to get the hours in otherwise, so you have to be creative.) Some family members took my bag of regular clothes with them in their car. Arriving at the party, I noticed that I had forgotten my shoes. So I was (proudly) rocking the cycling shoes that evening. 😅
haha! we really hope this involved some dancing too?!
@@gcn Perfect for tap dancing ;)
Dumbest (or oddest)..... getting a flat on rollers.
Pinot noir wasn’t the only Pinot I enjoyed at the FDJ Christmas party
Rider over a resessed train track OMG dislocated shoulder had to be help up and still go to work to work the wok station with one arm . Our tires don't fit in the tracks lol
Ouch, I feel for ya.
I would love a whole video where GCN people recount their dumbest/most fun memories at GCN.
At a stop bike crash, set off my crash detector. FLAT pedals. I had heavy loaded panniers, and was getting stuff for my new apartment. I had cookie sheets in there, sticking up over the rack. Stopped, swung my leg over.... caught on the cookie sheets. Heavy loads meant balance was wonky, and momentum was not in my favor. Landed smack on my ass, strained my butt muscle, and for a few hours until it settled down, was worried I wouldn't make it riding to my first day at new job. DERP.
Actual painful needing to see doctor?
I got my new bicycle, a snazzy road bike. Series of unfortunate events on new-bike-day led to severe dehydration (even though I'd planned on hydration).... and that led to a nasty UTI three days later. Always hydrate to avoid pissin' blood, folks!
Not the bike's fault. She's great. Still ouch.
Stupid bike things? I wanted to lose a few pounds, so I went for a long ride with no breakfast, no snacks, and one water bottle. The BONK could be heard for miles. Just, what was I thinking?
#CaptionContest: 🎶I kissed a cyclist and I liked it. The taste of that energy gel plastic 🎶
I'm waiting for the virtual cycle companies to add a Tron Light Cycle game, with the light walls appearing behind the cycle. Pedal faster : go faster and get an advantage in playing.
Total Hack or Bodge intro fail by these two "rookies". You guys forgot the arm slashing!!! 🤣
Everyone has there own style 😎
I winced audibly when I heard that Alex dropped Allen keys on his frame 😬😬
Painful right! 👀
@@gcn yup, can’t imagine a scratch on my de Rosa
Manon causually said: I rode another 160 K with a fractrued pelvis... Respect.
That breakfast was bonkers, but I've done a few food challenges including a bike race with time bonus for eating donuts
I took off on a 40 mile ride and about 2.5 miles in realized I forgot to put my helmet on. I continued on but I really had to pay attention in any potentially sketchy situation. Made it home alright and wont happen again. Felt like driving without seat belts.
The guy welcoming us at the beginning sounded like Bandit from Bluey 😂
My embarrassing cycling moment was the time my chamois got caught on my seat whilst I was dismounting. I couldn’t get it free and knew I was going down, so I controlled it. The husband just stood there with mouth agape because he didn’t understand why I was falling. He did check to see if traffic was coming as I was in the middle of the road
Hahahaha that's what partners are for right... standing and laughing 🤣
@@gcn not laughing. Just confused
Just love GCN 🇬🇧, reaching out to you from over the pond 🇺🇸
Thank you!! Sending the vibes back over there too!
Got stuck in tram tracks in Amsterdam…. The tram driver had a sense of humour failure …. I learned some new Dutch words much to onlookers amusement..
caption: *Whispers* "don't look right now, but, Tadej clearly left a red sock in the wash"
Caption competition- *quietly* “Just so you know Mathieu van der Poel is a better kisser.”
except for falling over clipped in, which we have all done, Manon"s offerings were about her just being a bad ass. She has backed off as a GCN staffer and the men around her are fortunate that she has.
#captioncompetition "I know it's quite a Pithie, but I am leaving you for Dan Lloyd. He finally has a new water bottle!"
Holy crap Manion, 160K with a broken pelvis.... you madam, are a savage. I crashed with 8 miles to go on a 65 mile race and I broke my clavicle and could feel the bone starting to boke out at the top, but I was determined to ride across the line. Then the adrenalin wore off and I felt ever bit of that 8 miles but it did not say DNF in the results. Cyclist have a whole other mentality when it comes to injuries than other sports participants do, that is for sure.
Stupid things I've done on a bike in no particular order:
8848m on a 6% gradient (345km)
5000m on a short 12% gradient (93km)
Riding 35km back to the finish of a road race with broken collar bone and some displaced ribs.
Rolling down a rock roll down too slow with dropper UP (that ended up in a broken leg)
After finishing LEJOG, and getting to the end an hour in front of the rest of the group, I waited at the pub and downed a couple of pints. Went down to the sign for the photos when they arrived, then got back on the bike to head back to the pub and immediately fell off unable to unclip in time.
Hahahah all that way and then that happens! Ouch 🤣
I thought Conor left his helmet so his head wouldn't explode from all the food :)
Gosh, Manon totally redefined rule #5.
Only 2 come to mind. I rode on almost bald tyres thinking they were going to be okay and skidded across a junction into a fence when attempting to turn into the junction. And I attempted a century km ride mid-summer and didn’t take any food with me. Bonked at 80km with pretty bad dehydration.
Uh oh! lessons learned here 🤣
Getting lost when I had a winning lead in an amateur road race.
17,000 calories?????? That's more than I eat in 10 days. Words fail.
Silly things: I lost one screw of two in my SPD cleats and I rode anyway. Then at one moment on the tour it happened what I somehow expected but ignored: The other screw which was fastened at the start came loose just a little and when I wanted to unclip at a stop, the cleat just turned in the shoe but stayed clipped in - so I found myself on the ground.
ah yes, the classic cleat rotating scenario! Hopefully you and the bike were not damaged?
@@gcn Thanks. I had bruises on my leg, hip and arm but nothing seriously damaged. Thank god it was a hard packed agricultural path, not tarmac. But the moment you realize you will fall and can do nothing against is unbelievably strange!
Also once went to the Isle of man for race week and broke a bone in my foot slipping off a curb on the way back from the pub... on the 1st night! 🥴
Manon called them G and P on the caption competition…. Surely they are G and T haha
New Pirelli tires provide 16% less rolling resistance. And I'd like a set!
I once carried a 20 inch pizza on the back of my bike for about 20 miles.
Getting lost at the beginning of a weekend double century and adding 8 miles to an already long and extremely hilly ride.
Ugh, Pirelli... I got their Gravel H tires, which were pretty expensive, but are built like $5 tires - they have a bad side to side wobble, and no amount of seating, reseating, massaging makes it go away. They're just built like s***. No more pirelli for me, I'll stick to Contis and Schwalbe.
Caption: "you said you'd be back three hours ago" #captioncompetition
20:22 yeah and you can probably buy ebike conversion kit for the same price as that drill although i do like how it looks.
I was not expecting the intro to come from Fredericton N.B.! good to see I'm not the only NBer to be watching this channel
When I was new to using clipless pedals I pulled up to some temporary traffic lights. I unclipped with no problem at all but somehow as I went to put my foot down I accidentally clipped back in and went down hard on my knee! I felt like a complete muppet!
Oh nasty! It's always those pesky traffic lights 🤣
Caption: ‘Remember to unclip or you’ll fall over when I let go’
Caption competition - "I noticed another Wiggle parcel was delivered today. Are you spending all of our money on 'bike stuff'?"
#Caption: I like whispering too but I just think having a team radio is more efficient!
Stupid and Painful things. Painful: 300km into a 400km audax a fallow deer jumped a hedge and landed on my back. Pitch black, i had no idea of the cause of the crash. Painful due to the 11 ribs, scapula and 4 verts broken. Stupid: Riding the same 400km event 2 years later.
Reminds me of when a friend was ambushed by a badger on a night ride
Squids! Drillbike is The hack!! Great show!

Caption competition: Honey, did you forget to wipe off your lipstick from yesterday.

Stupid things: Don't drive onto a height restricted car park with your bike on the roof rack.
I once almost failed to undo my toe strap and whilst trying to reach down to the right pedal and getting my foot out late, fell the other way!
:-D
Si in the speedo looks like something Valtteri Bottas would do.
#caption contest "Its a pithie you have not made a podium, but at least you are the subject of the GCN caption competitiion"
My favourite "dumb" cycling accident was having my cycle computer sensor slide down my fork and jamming my front wheel, straight over the bars, woke up in the ambulance on the way to the hospital (with the bike in the ambulance), got off relatively lightly only mild concussion and a very minor fracture to the point of my elbow
Not an accident but once had to cycle 15 miles to home on one leg due to blowing out my other knee with a rowing machine
That plate of breakfast has a big gap in the middle, the food is all laid out piled up around the outside,it's not as much as first appears.
#CaptionCompetition She whispers, "I Pithie the fool who tries to outsprint you."
Plenty too …
As I started riding more seriously it happened one morning in the early autumn when nasty cravings tortured men …
It had to be sugared mandarins with cream!
After being in the competition for a while my stomach reminded to vanish in a cornfield.
What a relief 😅!
I confess honestly Inever never ever did such stupid things again.
😂
These 2 need their own show
