Lots of interesting show business lore surrounding this George Harrison tribute performance. Supposedly, Harrison's widow Olivia was not fully on board with Prince being part of the crew, but was persuaded otherwise. In addition, there was never a full rehearsal of this prior to the performance and no one was certain what Prince was going to do. He kept assuring the show's producers that all would be fine. Lastly, Prince tossing his guitar up in the air at the conclusion was an astonishing bit of stagecraft, even to his fellow performers. This has always been one of my favorite songs and Prince's rendition was truly masterful.
Dana D'Agostin OH my, was it banging. I had a super crush on Prince my whole life. Petty, as well. My heart aches for all these superior talented artist we've lost.😔. May they all be at peace. 🙏❤️😇🎶😢 they are flying high with those wings. I lost my youngest daughter and her best friend on February 28th 2018. They both were only 20. It really is one of the greatest solos ever, possibly the best live solo performance. This is one of my top 5 live performance all-around--Prince's solo, Lynne's magical voice, Petty's solid center...so good!
This is such an amazing song no matter which version I listen to but obviously adding Prince makes this version legendary. Prince is the greatest overall musician of all time. Change my mind.
I cried for 2 weeks when Prince left us. That whole year (2016) sucked so bad. We lost a lot of big names in music. 😔 (first time viewer). Excellent choice - I've watched this probably 50 times. ♥
Prince is one of the most underrated ever. Man could jam on guitar, but he never wanted that spotlight. Any revolution song, you hear the solo get quiet.
George Harrison's album "Cloud Nine" saved me when I was a kid. Especially the song "Just For Today", which I still can't listen to today 32 years later. Too much pain. Tom Petty's music has been a life line and been the soundtrack of my troubled life since I saw a video with Alice beeing eaten like a cake by the Mad Hatter when I was 12. I absolutely love the Wilburys with Harrison, Petty, Lynn, Orbison and Dylan. And as a guitarist I naturally loves Clapton, who plays the guitar on the original Beatles version. There's a version here from the tribute concert "Concert for George", with Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Jeff Lynne and Dhani Harrison (who's standing behind Petty). He's so like his father that you could be mistaken to belive that the others traveled back in time to get the young George Harrison. RIP Tom Petty, George Harrison and Prince. You're greatly missed!
U Sir, are a great explanation of who we could all be.. Appreciative 2 have been here 4 a while.. Prince's music is the soundtrack of my life.. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am purple, thru and thru.. I can't say this enough.. I miss U Prince, but I understand that we are all just temporarily here.. I hope, I pray 2 see U on that other side.. He left us with more music than any other musician ever has and probably ever will.. There is enough music in his vault 2 release an album every year for the rest of this century.. "Will anybody remember 2 remember U" ?? Yes
One of my favorite renditions of any song! Legends playing together; not pressed to outshine each other. Everyone operating in their God given gifts and talents. Just a tad bittersweet because two of my faves are no longer around: one I've been giggin to since the Dirty Mind album and the other Free Fallin' and other classics on MTV and beyond. Continue to R.I.Paradise Prince & Tom Petty❤
I deeply cherish all of Tom Petty's work. He was truly one of the greatest songwriters of our time. I am so thankful that I got to see him in concert before he passed away. I cried that day.
This is such an awesome gig. How blessed are the people in the crowd?! To see one of these musicians in concert is amazing but this many on the stage Together is the concert of the decade. The video of the decade. The amount of true talent on that stage is mind-boggling. Not just the Major stars but the backup band. The drummer the pianist, all the other musos who took part. There is more talent on that stage for that one song than there was in the entire following decade. Prince's guitar is so uniquely Prince. His guitar playing hits me deep every time I hear it. I miss him.
Damn, I feel you dog! Music saved my life! When I had no friends I had music. It didn't matter rock, pop, soul, jazz, funk country, classical. It all touched my heart. Prince an Tom Petty, two of the greatest to ever do the damn thing! RIP
Prince was just exceptional as a musician. I mean he has panache and style but you can see how he feels the music and expresses himself through that guitar, just an amazing talent.

This performance by Prince has always been one of my favorites. I hear you when you say that no ego is above any others in this dedication, but in my humble opinion Prince encapsulated and defined the tribute, and it was amazing.
You forgot...RIP George Harrison (you acknowledged Prince and Petty). This was a Travelling Wilbury's (& friends) tribute to George...and the young man behind Petty is Dhani Harrison. George's image lives on in his beautiful boy. One of the most beautiful songs ever written.
I didn't forget I simply went with the title, I am a huge Beatles fan, and regretfully I went with what they wanted us to talk about which was Prince's appearance, Had I created the video, I would have called it an All Star Tribute to George Harrison, I am well versed. I know that this is a George Harrison original, with the original session recorded with Eric Clapton. In correction I mentioned everyone except for his son, which looking back that bothers me. The creator wanted to showcase the amazing guitar solo and that's what I did.
@@DramaSydETV I watch your videos often and I highly respect you. I like your talks before each performance. I am aware of how highly you treasure talents of all genres. I just got a little testy because throughout RUclips the bigger focus was on Prince. I adore Prince and I know he did this for Dhani and George. Peace out and much love to you from Tampa Bay Florida🌴😎🎧
Thank God for the music ! It is the soul of the universe and as long as their music exists so do they. I just found your Elvis reaction and now this one ,I'm hooked and I'll be back for more great music thx...♡
Love your reaction brother. I agree, I'm blessed to be alive to have witnessed greatness (50 yrs. old). I also agree with your sentiment that, even though we lost Prince and Tom, their legacy and music will live on forever. So then I had an epiphany. All music started off as a radio-based art form. The audio supersedes the visual. During the late 70's and 80's music was also recorded and presented in a video/visual medium which added a whole other layer and dimension to it. We got to see how the artist looked, moved, and expressed themselves. Thanks to that era not only can we hear the historical greats; we can see, empathize, and almost touch these legendary musicians as their music continues to inspire. Their legacies are duly preserved in both audio and video mediums. So video didn't kill the radio star. It enhanced and preserved music history.
Steve Winwood is a presence in his own right. He has been rockin since he was 15 years old, when he started in the Spencer Davis Group. He had at least 2 mega hit albums in the '80's, and he has a daughter named Lily who is carrying on the family business!
You ARE EXACTLY RIGHT when you said legions!!! Rest in peace TO ALL the great ones that have left us. In fact, I'm a very big fan of prince and Petty. Moreso than the others. I miss so many of them. This is MY favorite performance with these artist to this song. New sub out of Southeast Virginia. Could you react to Chris Cornell and his daughter doing the Bob Marley sing " Redemption". Which is another favorite of mine. Bob Marley was and still is a fan of mine. Thank you Sir for your reaction. An honest and respectful one.🙏❤️🦊
This performance made me weep when it first aired on tv Prince stole the show it's a tribute to George Harrison George Harrison son is standing next to Tom playing the guitar he asked Prince if he could play his father's part on this song and he stole the show
Finally a reactor who appreciates ALL the talent there not just Prince although this is the song that made me appreciate Prince and his guitar skills 😢
I've been playing this piece for many years to help me through the hard times, certainly now more than once this past year due to Covid. No disrespect to the Pettys, the Winwoods, the Lynne's etc. But Prince really took that piece and excelled it to the next level. I didn't get to mourn Prince when he passed because at that time, I was looking after my 3yr old daughter while she was in hospital, on treatment for cancer. But holy hell, what kept me going was this. And it still keeps inspiring.
It's hard to believe that some of these legends are gone but like you said, we have their music to remember them by. Who would have thought that the band that George Harrison put together after his Beatles career was over, would become a super band. Only Jeff Lynn and Bob Dylan are left from that super band. Gone are Roy Orbisson, Tom Petty and George Harrison. Prince will forever be missed as he was taken from us far too early. Thank you for your great and honest reaction to this great collaboration of stars and their tribute to George.
Your message at the end about music is why I came here. Being stuck in my home due to covid19 I just needed to here some music and your comments at the end were an added bonus! Awesome!
George Harrison should have been featured more as a third writer of the Beatles (I mean more than he was) He had so much to offer. The other three discovered how great george was when the post-Beatles so anticipated came out and George's All Things Must Pass album kicked all asses and stayed on top of Billboard a long time! Tom petty does great justice to this jewel! THX!
Love Prince's smiles at Tom Petty while he's jamming out. One musical genius showing respect to the other.
I'm confident Tom didn't mind playing the straightman to Prince's joker. It's the juxtaposition that makes it all work.

One of the GREATEST Prince moments!! Prince knew he was about to tear shit up!!! He waited his turn and then let loose!! That man was a gift!!
Prince shredded that performance to perfection!💐
Your comments are so beautiful, the music was so incredible and I agree with everything you said. Thank you so so much.
A beloved performance. I look forward to the huge grin on Dhani's face every single time I watch this video - no matter how many times I see it.
Jeff Lynne's vocals are awesome!!! Long live Jeff Lynne's ELO please Tour in 2021-2022. RIP Tom and Prince and we miss you George.
One of the best songs ever and performed with absolute greatness. You also do an amazing job with your reaction videos !!
Steve Winwood was a founding member of both Traffic and Blind Faith. Look them up, you're in for a treat.
Isn’t that the sickest thing ever???!!!! Whole other level.
Awesome!
This is everything. Musicianship. 🔥🔥🔥
THX!
Prince playin that guitar so good he gave himself stank face!
