There’s a live version of him doing this On RUclips somewhere. Just him and an acoustic guitar, perched on a stool, playfully messing with the audience In a singalong. He’s just so cool, with his confidence and swagger.

Nicely done reaction! Glad U chose “ Cream” and not the usual mega hit selections from Prince. What I appreciate most is that you got deep enough into the lyrics to discern the real message of the song, and did some research on the song and it’s true meaning.
Prince was the king of double meanings/entendres in his lyric writing and he was very skilled at it. I always loved his lyrics separately but also in addition to his skills as a composer. He was well aware that the Public’s general perception of him was that he wrote sexual songs only and he knew how to play with that perception in this song. Those of us familiar to a fuller extent with his vast catalog know that he also would also occasionally write about social issues, and even songs like this that were self affirmative and empowering.
Love Prince and always enjoyed this song. He was a musical genius.
The woman singing is Rosie Gaines...she has an amazing powerful voice. React to Diamonds and Pearls, she sings on that track as well. The two female dancers are named Diamond and Pearl.
Prince was a genius and he wanted everyone to know it but kinda on the down low. Hope to see you do more of his catalog. Sadly , one of his best is banned in America due to legal 🐂💩. Last note: U mentioned “progression.” A great example of Prince’s understanding of musical progression was a beautiful song he wrote in the 1990s called “The Holy River”, more of an introspective song than anything else, but musically it’s exquisite in how he builds the sound, musical and emotional energy of the song. It wasn’t a hit but got some airplay and I think it has an official video. “Anna Stesia” is another fantastic example.

What I love about Cream, is that it seems so simple at first "glance", but the details are perfectly placed, making it sound so playful, yet easy listening for the pop listener.

I don't think I've actually seen that extended video before. The other singer is Rosie Gaines she was part of the NPG. She had quite a big solo hit here in the UK with a club mix of her song Closer than Close in 1997. This is one of my favourite Prince songs, I love the Diamonds and Pearls album. Totally in my wheel house, I was 17 when it came out. Fun fact one of the two female dancers is Robia LaMorte Scott who played Jenny Calendar in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The other was Lori Wener, they were nickname Diamond and Pearl!

This is a fabulous song and music video! The production, lyric and vocals all excite and please. Rosie Gaines, is the main backing singer as seen the music video. Gaines, an accomplished artist in her own right has recorded many fabulous albums albums of her own. Unsurprisingly, some of her works do bare the influence of her time as part of NPG.
What prince did what nobody in todays music does is he wrote ,produced , played all instruments , preformed all songs on his albums the only reason he had a band for was for the videos and tour but in the studio prince did it all
The album "Diamonds and Pearls" is (another) masterpiece from Prince!!! All the songs are fantastic... He do a video-album, so every song has a video (not same order, and some live)... Try "Gett Off", "Thunder", "Live 4 Love", "Daddy Pop", "Money Don't Matter 2 Night"... All perfection...
Oh yes, this song by Prince is ACE. Interestingly, a uk comedy sketch show called The Fast Show did a parody of this song,including other Prince songs with the lead singer playing a banjolette ( as sort of Ukelele) , in the style of George Formby.
The backing vocalists is Rosie Gaines, she was a member of the NPG. He changed members every so often. The girls are Lori Werner and Robia LaMorte. He named them Diamond and Pearl for the album. They were the mascots for the album.

New Power Generation is the backing band for Prince. Rosie is the background singer. According to Prince, he wrote this song looking in a mirror. The lyrics; Cream rises to the top, make the rules and break them all (describes Prince). During his musicology tour he told everyone to sing that song looking in a mirror. And those 2 ladies are Diamond and Pearl (The title of the album).

I love Prince! He is a genius and icon of music! I love his naughtier songs just as much as his other stuff! He had a real naughty side. His album Dirty Mind from the early eighties was really great and sexy! Also, songs like "Little Red Corvette", "Head", and 'Darling Nikki" all had sexual overtones! LOL! Prince did the double entendre better than anyone! Rosie Gaines was the female who sang with him here. Great voice!

Dereck Reacts You MUST watch "Girls and Boys". A little anecdote, saw Prince live the first time in 1993 and ended up in the same nightclub afterwards, he was mesmerizing to look at. His entourage did their (magnificent) best to keep the women away, if anyone went back with him that night she was not there. One thing I know there was nothing vulgar or crass about him.
Prince was a production genius and since he had so many tones to his voice, he would over-dub his voice with different inflections.
