- Hi everyone, I am back! We are back! Feels good to be home, as always, but we're both sick now 🤪
I managed to rip out and start the siding just before becoming quite sick, which is my current status.
Like everything, I'm learning this process as I go, which means I'll be making many mistakes along the way. Hopefully I sort most of them out on this first wall, but all walls are different, so who knows. 🤷🏻♀️
So far, I'm loving the look of it. This cedar has created an itch I must scratch, and I have to know what it's gonna look like. Another question or thought I have moving forward is how to finish the siding - I will bring that up maybe next video and see what I receive in the comments in that regard.
Anyway, welcome back to the cliff! Clearly I have a lot more work to do to get this cabin closer to being finished.
Gotta keep plugging away!
Thanks for watching, and see you in the next one! 💥

(Oh, and I never did participate in the 'shorts' video thing while away. Sorry for those who might have been looking forward to that, but the one day I was planning to film while skiing, I never ended up skiing that day!)
The vertical format is definitely the right choice. It’s beautiful!
❤ hello 😊
Creativity and perfection will never agree. Creativity should always win. Keep true to yourself.
Yes but it was just a project that you have just about finished you should be proud of you self
Vertical is the bomb! It looks fantastic to my eyes! And you are very precise which makes the whole project so professional! I admire your skills: my wife is a nurse and am a pharmacist; neither one of us could come close to your artistic talent! Thanks for your videos!
Welcome home. Your pictures are incredible. Thankful that you are home safe. Your siding is terrific. Wishing you and Steve a gentle virus, restful time together and a complete recovery. Peace princess
Good to see you back on the cliff, and the vertical siding is looking awesome. Thank you for sharing. Get well Steve , and you stay well also.
As usual, informative, entertaining, and thoroughly enjoyable! Thank you! Shout out to Steve...hope you're feeling better! Take care...❤❤❤
The production of this film is spectacular!
An excellent combination of content! Well done! Well Done!
Pursuing a vision is an amazing journey!
Welcome home!! I'm glad you're back safe and sound. W.W we look forward to your projects.
good day glad to see no broken bones and your healthy. lemon juice and water helps . happy to see you🙂
Very beautifully done leading drip edges on that classy looking window. I luv it!❤
I've loved watching you struggle over all the myriad decisions that have to be made during this project. Mostly because I just built a cabin in southern Ohio and have gone through so much of the same tortuous decisions! Over so many little and big things.
As far as the vertical siding goes, I build a cabin on Vancouver Island in the mid 70's and did the same live edge board on batten. Love it.
I've loved your project and story telling. That view from the cliff is breathtaking too!
That cabin is a dream cabin away from home . So beautiful and peaceful you are doing a fantastic job .
Hi Michelle, Keep up the good work. The siding is looking awesome!
❤ hello 😊
Hey Michelle,, always makes my day to get to catch one of your new videos before I head to work!! Hope you're doing well and this message finds you smiling!!
Stay golden!

Hi Michelle, Steve , Pups 🐶 🐾and 🐈⬛too 😊 👋🏻 Great to see you made it home safely, hope you feel better soon 🙏🏻 Stay safe and take care my friends 🫶🏻 God Bless 🙏🏻 Appreciate you always! Great job on the siding 👊🏻👍🏻
Welcome Home Michelle, the vertical siding is looking fantastic! You need a Milwaukee battery operated siding nailer, to help you move along.
Hope Steve and yourself are feeling better soon.
What a view! I can imagine having my morning coffee on that porch!
Great job Michelle!
I think the vertical boards look really good! 👍🏻
Ps. Dose up on Vitamins D3, K2, Zinc, Vitamin C and B Complex. Take those year round and That'll fend off any viruses whether man made or otherwise.. 😉💪🏻🏴🇬🇧
Happy to see you both had a good trip. Awesome view hope Johnny okay if that's him and your husband feeling better. Love your work on installing the cedar board's great idea. Be safe Best regards 💗
I came across your channel a few months back when i was researching woodland mills saw mills. I stumbled across your blade sharpening video. Anyways i purchased the 122 mill as the wood i get in the yukon isnt big enough to justify a larger mill.
Your building style is quite similar to mine. Ive always got somewhat of a good plan and a vision but thats about it. Ive always been that way. I start building and kind of plan as i go. It always works out and im always learning as i go. Youve got a great skillset and the fact your always wanting to learn and figure things out is all you really need. And some good tools always helps. At the end of the day be proud of your accomplishments and dont stop building. I look forward to your weekly videos. They calm me down after the fresh week of depressing garbage thats going on around us all.
Lol....the reason I decided to commemt and almost forgot to was the vertical siding is a solid choice. Im glad you decided to go that route as thays how i planned on siding my cabin. I think it looks awesome so far. I wish i had cedar up here but spruce will do for this guy.
Keep milling keep building and keep posting. Thanks for the content.
ALWAYS GREAT TO WATCH YOU, AND YOUR PROGRESS. THANK YOU!
Perseverance is essential...this you have for sure. I agree with the vertical siding very cool.
Glad you are back and moving forward with the cabin
It's looking good glad to see you back safe and back at it. Hope quick recovery for Steve and you don't get it. Seeya on next one 👍🏻👍🏻
Dear Michelle,
So glad you are back on your mountain - you were missed.. You and Steve live such interesting and productive lives. For some time I have been also watching some programs of young ladies in the very North of Vietnam building new lives in that very beautiful, mountainous area where, like your area, there are very few services available and they have to build there own homes and farms in the rugged terrain. Some of the things they face, as they actually live there full time, are getting water and electricity for example and how they raise all sorts of crops and forage for all kinds of wild fruits and vegetables to sell at the local open air markets. It never freezes there but it does get quite cool in the winter so the do not need any heating system. All of them get water either from a mountain stream or trickling spring which they pipe down to a very large plastic tank or one they have constructed of bricks and mortar and due to the continuing running of the sources they always have a very large supply available and this might be a possibility for you at your cabin if there is any sort of spring up above your cabin. Many are installing modern toilets and septic systems as well. At the moment one lady (Google Lt tivi) who has constructed an unbelievable homestead is in the process of rebuilding a very old two story house that she and her father deconstructed and moved to a new location. The traditional construction uses no fasteners as it is all dove-tailed together. I think Steve would be interested in how they do it - even the brand new houses are built that way. The current episode is the fourth for this project and is the first where it appears they have brought in a back hoe to do the heavy lifting of the four frames. The main timbers, which appear to be about 10'X 10", have all been planed and sanded and are of a reddish species of wood. These very industrious people seem to be very loving of all of their animals and children and I have not seen any animosity anywhere. Most have little or no transportation except the main mode around there is small "step-through" motorcycles. Most of the mechanics are women. They all do seem to have cell phone coverage which is so amazing in that mountainous area. Oh, Michelle, I think that you would appreciate the photography - it is really good, but alas, there is not much closed captioning. Ta=Ta.
The cabin will be STUNNING once fully sided!! Trees grow vertically, and the live edge siding will blend into the forest, while still being visually offset from said trees...great job Michelle!! Jp, NW Indiana!
Thanks for the video! I hope you and Steve feel better double quick. 🐾🍸
Thanks once again for a wonderful video Michelle, so glad to hear you and Steve had a wonderful time in Switzerland, I must say the siding looks wonderful. I like it I think you on the right road anyway have a great day and a wonderful week, and I hope you feel better.
I think you're doing absolutely awesome Michelle ❤ Trials and tribulations and making it look just like you want it is all that matters when the finished product looks as pretty as it does already 😊 Thank you for sharing and I hope Steve gets well soon and I hope you don't catch it
"Things that make you go, hmmm." Love your whimsical creative process.❤
It looks great. You were right about the vertical siding.
Great your back. Hope you don’t get to sick and fast recovery for Steve. Looks great to me the siding your doing and I like the fact it’s your way and that’s the way it should be. Glad you had a great adventure and will be following your summer projects
It's great to see you back at the cabin on the cliff. I think it is turning out absolutely beautiful.
Hi Michelle. Glad you stuck with the vertical boards. It looks amazing! Good you made it home safe.
Yaaay! Michelle is back! I hope your trip was graaand! I wasn't sold on the vertical, in the beginning, but I am now, I think it looks great!!
That reverse board and batten looks great! Great choice.
I just can't get over that view.......and the mountains arent bad either....!!!
I love the view from your cabin ! It's absolutely stunning. I would take in a few moments everyday to enjoy it 😊.
Hey Kiddo....glad your back safely.... I really like the vertical RB&B it looks very nice... good job your doing fine.
Michelle, your determination and creativity shine through in every project you tackle. Despite the challenges, you always find a way to push through and create something truly unique. Keep up the fantastic work!
Those trim head screws are awesome, that self drilling tip and small heads really work well. I build birdhouses with them out of cedar pickets. So enjoy watching u build this many house.
Love the look of cedar, some quick tips that might help your next walls; battens should only be fastened on one side to prevent tension/compression from splitting boards or pulling fasteners.
Strapping should be beveled on the top edge to make water run to the outside.
Finishing cedar; if you use a product that creates a film on the surface it will have limited durability flaking/scaling , but any sort of penetrating oil avoids this and can be easily reapplied.
Try to find something with copper naphtholate or other preservatives and UV blocking. it will change the colour slightly but add a lot of protection. Any effective treatment will add colour, it's unavoidable.
❤ hello 😊
Hey sweet lady, I’m glad you’re back safe and sound . Hope y’all get over your virus soon 🙏❤️🇺🇸🇨🇦👍🏼
❤ hello 😊
Welcome back Michele. Looks great. I also like the board over rough cut siding. Did my garage with it. Keep up the good work and stay safe lady!
You have got so far through so many challenges and never truly shown to much frustration. A fantastic job well done
Hi Michelle - The vertical board and batten was absolutely the right choice for the cabin. Looks amazing! Regards, Randy in Arizona, USA
You had it right the first time, no need to change it. Looks really great, yep, sometimes you just getter done. You can only get so many projects out of one lifetime so don't dilly dally. :)
❤ hello 😊
Michelle the vertical siding looks fantastic! Definitely the right choice. Hopefully Steve is feeling better and if you have gotten it you feel better quickly as well❣️
I love that you're doing vertical and in the end it's your cabin who cares what other people's opinions are.
Outstanding exterior siding. Beautiful build 👍👏🏻🚜
Missed you my friend. Looking good on the siding. Hope y'all feel better soon.
Peace and love, Tim
This vertical arrangement of siding is a nice touch. Good job overthinking everything by the way.
glad you're home, safe and sound.. it's really looking great and I just love that siding, it's perfect for that cabin. can't wait for next weeks video..
Well I am no builder, and I know nothing about aesthetics, but in my humble opinion, that vertical siding looks FABULOUS...
You make my Sundays wonderful.
Yup, I love the vertical siding too. Also like your pace and persistence. You’re an inspiration!
The vertical way looks amazing, I really like how you did the corner! Hope your husband feels better and you don't get sick as well. Oh, the view, the view, the view! What a beautiful area. Glad to see Johnny is back. Cheers!
Yes, back at the cabin. I love it give those dogs smooches because they’re so cute❤😂
Welcome home. Give Steve plenty of warm soup.
Wow what an amazing view of the mountains..hope Steve and everyone gets better asap. Peace ✌️ love ❤️ and harmony from maryland
Love that live edge board & batten. You've inspired me to dide my tractor shed with it. Get Steve better. Stay healthy you two!
It is coming along Michelle - the error on top should be easy to fix. The corner should go up to the rafter but you could fill it in instead.
Glad to see you are both back safe and sound, and you both enjoyed your holiday, , That is going to look 👀 amazing, I think the neck of installing live edge boards is the Top and tail them , so narrow at the top then narrow at the bottom on the next one, and it is definitely more time-consuming, as if you’re doing it horizontal you just do your pieces first and then cut your infill to length,
From what I’ve seen over the years the way you’re doing, it does look a lot better , more rustic looking, 👀 😂,
The vertical sidings look really good. Great choice.
I admire you so much!! You have so mutch strength!!keep it up Mitchy. Greetings and BB love from Crete!!love you!!!!
Nice to see you back. Listen to your brain, it is your good advisor :) The siding looks great.
Wow @michygoss7148 this turned out so beautiful 🤩😍🤩
Around 14:00, please imagine the stadium with your happy subscribers cheering for how great your cabin is starting to look. Hope you do not catch that flu after all, or if you do, get better soon!
Vertical siding for the win. You ‘daring to be different’ is why I enjoy watching your videos so much. Keep following your instincts; they are smart 😊
When you create something pretty don’t expect perfection ❤❤❤
Sunday morning wouldn’t be complete without watching mitchygoss, and Itchyboots! The cabin looks amazing! You did a great job!
Must admit, love your choice of music.
It looks great, and it will shed water.... Welcome home!
It looks great so far and you've figure out how to get around the obstacles you've encountered and you'll continue to. Looks like a great vacation. Thanks for the video.
Hey Michelle, I get sick often when the weather is below 50F. My cats are allowed to go out through an open window with a hole in cardboard covering it. I hang a heavy curtain in the door opening to that room to limit drafts. I have to keep my shoulders covered and my feet on a heating pad or I get sniffles and sneezing. My meds (morphine 30mg., hydrocodone 10-325 & nortriptyline 100mg.) make me too hot or too cold as time wears on. I have a voice controlled fan I use to cool off then. I can't go out when the sun is out due to too many radiation treatments (27 in 8 months). I find that chicken soup really does wonders to keep me healthy. I hope both of you get well soon. I feel sick a lot due to taking Xtandi, which ruins my apatite quite often.
❤ hello 😊
@@Truongthikimcuong92 hello
@@smarthome2660 nice to meet you ❤️❤️❤️
You need an oscillating multi tool. Also just add a piece to the front of the sill to extend it out. Looks great!
I actually have one out there! 🤪
Glad You are home safe from the trip. I LOVE that vertical siding. Goes with the Natural Landscape so well. The Trees are vertical and rise in Victory against the steep Slope of the Mountain and so does Your Cabin. Great Job Lady, thanx for Sharing, thanx for feeding Chipper. 😃😃😃
All I know is I'm 73 years old and I am amazed at everything you're able to do you have done a wonderful job can you do terrific work and take on an amazing challenge love your channel love your show wish you well and keep up the good work you're doing great
You never cease to amaze, Michy. I am begining to think you might be amazing. Aren't all flus viral? Speedy revovery to you!
I was really just eluding to Covid without wanting to say Covid. Haha. We both have it now 😷
@@michygoss7148 that really sucks my friend. Much Love
@@MrTimNed it’s ok - I was much sicker when I got it in Japan 🥴. I’m feeling improved already!
@@michygoss7148 Oh, you poor things, speedy recovery to you both!
I like the vertical as well :) One thing I learned when working on cars, mostly paint or body work, always do the passenger side first. That way whenever I walk up to the car I don't have to see the flaws I learned from on the other side. You mainly see the driver side so work everything out on the other side. It's not a bad idea wether it's old cars or cute cabin siding..
I know - but that’s the one side that will make the most difference at the start, and I’m kinda getting impatient with this cabin build! 🤪
Glad to see you both are home safe and sound, hope Steve gets well soon. You made the right decision
welcome home sis
The vertikal sidings you did is really awesome. I'm glad you sticked to that decission. The look of it is very spot on.
Thanks for the video. Great content!! :)
Morning coffee and a wonderful view from your deck, enjoy your day.👍🏝️🇨🇦
Actually looks stunning. Love it.
The vertical siding looks fantastic!
I loved the entrance at the beginning. Lovely slim lady (Said respectfully) arrives at cabin. Tall-ish, slim and classy. And what do we find on her feet? Michy, you're like me in my cowboy boots. We look like a pair of golf clubs if we stand side on!!!!😆😅🤣
❤ hello 😊
Two words and they need repeating..."That View, uhg, That view, that view, THAT VIEW"!!
A RAILING, A RAILING, A RAILING!!
@@jakester455 100%, when Michelle backs up, on that deck, i lose more fingernail
@@barryhoneycutt3894 But you never hear about utubers who fall off of cliffs although I can watch too much of that.
Glad you had a good trip. Your view from your little cabin is beautiful. I hope you get to feeling better. Take care and be safe.
“Taking the way of the siding less traveled!”…looks great! 😎👍
Where have you been beautiful it seems like months since you last did a video I can’t cope without seeing you precious one ❤
Just over a week ago I posted a video!!
@@michygoss7148 I wish you would do one every day 😁❤️❤️
Nice safety glasses
Another great video and wonderful progress on that beautiful cabin! You have done a phenomenal job but then again you always do! Thanks for bringing us in for a glimpse into your life! Hope this finds you and Steve both fully recovered or at least on the road to it! Blessings to both of you for the week ahead!
I am glad that you are back. I love your vertical siding. You just gave me an idea of what I am going to do on my living room wall.
Geez, for safety why don 't you put up a railing around that deck, it only takes one slip-up. Seems kinda obvious no? But you know what is said about common sense.
Correct. I worked construction for nearly 40 years and seen all sorts of things. I’ve seen guys who’ve been working all day on an 8 foot step ladder then grab a 6 foot step ladder 'just for a minute' then climb up it only to walk right over the top, LOL. Or just step back off a staging. Mitchy needs to at least nail up a couple of 2x4's and put up a rope to remind herself the edge is there. I know, I know, but I’ve seen more people hurt from complacency.
Great video as always , good job 🙂🙂
Nail up a safety rail! 🫣 I'm a 67 year old General Contractor and unfortunately have seen some terrible injuries... That's a broken back, at least, fall...
Steve, her husband, agrees with you. If not for your sake, Michelle, do it for the dogs. Love your channel, but cringe every time I see every other job done except the rail.
The railing appears to be a non issue for some inexplicable reason, not like it can be slippery or someone might stumble.
It's good to have you home...Funny. To see you cold when I'm looking at 98° today, in Phoenix...Sure missing the PNW.
Vertical, horizontal, diagonal...do what you want. Looks great.
Take 2 aspirin and drink your fluids....that will be a $20 co- pay...× 2. I'm including Steve.
Wonderful and whimsical all at the same time! Thanks for the enjoyable content!
i love that cabin that be so cool to just relax and spend a few days the views are awesome all years round you get such great scenery
You two have a hell of a life, yes I am jealous!
