    I use Chitubox pro and will definitely try this out. I run my life and channel off an ipad so I’d be delighted to trade a windows based slicer for this one. Early support really helps the developer fix bugs and improve the app. Great vid, thanks!

    It’s disappointing that you complain about the cost (a single coffee per month) when you are sponsored for almost all your videos by Elegoo.
    A single engineer has significant costs for an app. Not to mention it’s how they support themselves and their families.
    $35/year is no different than buying it and having paid upgrades.

    • @rmariboe
      @rmariboe 2 года назад

      I think it's great that Jessy keeps average consumers in mind in spite being supported!
      And these subscription models that don't cover any cost but simply pour in money to the developers wether they keep working on the project or not have got to stop.

    I just recently got my first resin printer a Mars 3 Pro. Compared to some pricing of other tools like Shapr 3d or Chitubox I think that 35 bucks for an entire year is very reasonable. Then again I am currently doing only really basic prints so I am not sure if it is missing something that is necessary for others. The app is easy to use, I think the icons for import/export should be flipped around. Export looks like you are importing and visa versa. It would be nice if they could add support to share from Shapr directly into Pikaslice without needing to save the stl file somewhere else.

      People who tolerate this whole "renting software" stuff are really the worst types. I could understand if they did it like...Lightburn, where you pay for the software, get a years worth of updates, and the software _doesn't stop working after the year is over_ - but you're just perpetuating this by buying into their ecosystem. BMW is starting a new program where you _rent_ the ability to have heated seats. Because of this crap. Because there are always people that are willing to give up and let immoral systems take over.

    The price seems reasonable to me. I hate that everything is moving towards a SaaS/subscription model, but at least this one looks to offer more than some current slicers at nearly 1/5 the cost. Definitely something worth keeping an eye on and with the ability to run some IOS apps on Apple Silicon based Macs, this could be become even more awesome.

    • @UncleJessy

      @@UncleJessy some apps can run on macOS if the developer enables it.
      It could be “ported” to a native experience if it’s written using Apple’s Catalyst framework. Ported is in quotes because technically there is little to do if that’s what they’re using.

    Edit: no undo is the only deal breaker for me so far, but it looks impressive otherwise.
    Also color me impressed, their Jupiter is already on here. The only thing I need now is to figure out how to fix inconsistencies with my 3d print on the iPad itself, because I'm still tethered to my PC and 3D builder to fix the files and make them 3D print ready. So then my typical work load goes:
    • Nomad on iPad Pro, export obj to Google Drive
    • Download from Google Drive on PC
    • Load into 3D Builder on PC and fix the mesh
    • Save out as stl
    • Open STL in slicer
    So to loop back to my iPad would be very inconvenient in this case.

    • @UncleJessy
      @UncleJessy  2 года назад

    • @vidsurfer0725
      @vidsurfer0725 2 года назад +1

      @@UncleJessy basically 3D Builder takes my files and checks them for irregularities and repairs the file. I do this with any 3D file I personally create (I am versed with Zbrush and Nomad). If I buy or get files from anywhere I tend to just go straight to the slicer.
      If I zremsh in Zbrush and reproject the details, the file is usually fine, but any Nomad files tend to always come out needing 3D build repair.

    @ZwilnikSF 2 года назад +3

    $35.99 a year isn't so bad when you consider the prices of the other slicers. The reality of app development nowadays is that subscription is the only model that really covers the long term development needed. It looks like it'll be great once it gets a bit more polish.

I think the one thing that I’d love to see is one thing Jessy mentioned in the video... Magic Keyboard integration. (It’s my favorite accessory for the iPad.) It does work with the trackpad, but it spins the model so fast that it’s not really usable.

    I hope like hell you're calling out this garbage "Software As a Service" behavior @Uncle Jessy - you should be telling your viewers not to tolerate this kind of predatory anti-consumer behavior. $35 a year... can't even just buy a piece of software now, you have to RENT it. Coming from 3D printing being all Open Source, shared knowledge, and free. If you aren't absolutely screaming from the rooftops for people to avoid this crap, you are the problem.

    • @UncleJessy

      I’m all for a 1 time charge but seeing it’s just a single person who is developing/supporting this app I can completely understand why they went the saas route. It’s 1000% easier to support vs managing paid users on version x, then asking to pay to upgrade to version y, and then users complaining for fixes on version X when you are developing version Z (I used to manage a large scale software app and this was an absolutely nightmare).
      Developing on iOS does leave you a little limited with options. Maybe even a fully paid option with a lot more limited features.
      Def things to consider but still pretty dang cool to finally see someone attempt this

    Super excited until I realized it's subscription based. I do not endorse recurring cost on the consumer for something that does not impose a recurring cost on the developer. I would have happily paid a one-time fee of $100 for a functional iOS slicer, but I won't be buying into the subscription model, like I prefer using sub-par but set price 3D modeling tools over subscription based tools like Shapr.

    Rather use ANY free mac/win slicer available.
    let me know when it becomes free, then I will give a go.

    I can't imagine a lot of people have a Mars 2 Pro stored wherever they visit and probably have a PC already for their 3D printing needs so paying an extra subscription for this seems a niche market to cater for. I can see this sell heaps if it were buy and not sub.

    • @mintynuggets
      @mintynuggets 2 года назад +2

      The consistent cash flow allows the dev to keep updating and supporting the app and the niche market that they're targeting is probably more than happy to pay the subscription fee. I tried it out but i think I'll stick to lychee free for now

    • @LordOfJazz
      @LordOfJazz 2 года назад

      @@mintynuggets I bought Clip Studio Pro which is a much insanely more complex program that has hundreds, if not thousands, of features that are updated regularly and is considered on par with Photoshop and I paid once. This whole "after sales updates needs tons of money" argument is all smoke and mirrors. The same happens in the video game industry too. Yes it costs them money to keep supporting but charge what it's worth and I'll buy in. In 5 years time this app will have cost you around $240. Not exactly money well spent if you ask me.

      @@LordOfJazz i mean it's kinda the unfortunate world we all live in. The upcoming recession is gonna cause a major drop in people paying for subscription services so maybe switching to a pay once model is gonna be more beneficial

      @@mintynuggets A recession will kill off a lot of start up companies and especially hobby focused businesses. They aren't targeting bug companies with a $4 sub fee so it will be interesting to see how long this app will be around.

    • @ZwilnikSF
      @ZwilnikSF 2 года назад +2

      The reality for app developers is that they need subscription pricing to be able to keep supporting development of the app beyond the initial release. Users want support and new features years beyond the initial version nowadays and a single up-front payment just doesn't cover that unless it's ridiculously high. Especially if it's a niche market where you won't get more than a few thousand sales if you're lucky.

  • @HiThisIsMine

    I’m sick of subscription based software. I don’t mind paying a reasonable purchase price to own something.. you can even take away support after a year and only offer it if I renew… but $4/month added onto the $2/mo and $15/mo and the other $35/mo and that one other $12/mo etc etc etc… it adds up. I have maybe 20 different subscriptions I have to deal with each month. Aside from the cost, it’s difficult to manage.
    $4/mo
    $40/year
    $240/lifetime max 20 prints per month
    $600/lifetime max 50 prints per month
    Or credits. Charge me per print. $10 bundle gets you 20 credits and you can even make them expire after 6 mo. or year
