The Non-Canon Expert looks at a moment during the early months of the Clone Wars when Yoda questioned the Jedi and Republic decision to rely upon the Clone troopers, explaining how the actions of the Republic Commandos of Theta Squadron resulted in the Jedi Grand Master withholding his complete trust of the Clones.
This is a Legends story for Yoda and the Republic Commandos of Theta Squadron with information that can be found with Issue #22 of the Legends comic "Star Wars: Tales." I hope that you enjoy it!

Great point Daryl! The great aspect about this story for Yoda is that the Clones did exactly what they were supposed to, and that is what gave Yoda pause, fearing it could one day be used against them. It wasn't any type of negative sentiments towards the Jedi or refusal of orders, but just the opposite. I enjoyed that approach. But thank you for watching and for the support as always. It is always great to see your comments!

The Jedi had every reason to be suspicious of the clones given how they magically fell into place at the exact time they were needed the most.
Then in a very short time they were able to win the Jedi's respect and admiration - as if they had been designed to do just that. Again, things fell into place too easily.

I like to think this is why Yoda went out of his way to get clones to humanise themselves. Like in the series when he's telling the clones, "To the force, very different you all look." or something like that. Because he wants them to be more than blindly loyal weapons. Maybe part of his motivation is this tactical, "I'm not very comfortable with being surrounded by soulless killing machines".

That and they were most likely in the Katarn Mark 1 armor, as this happened early in the war, the armor could take blaster and lazer rounds very well, the cannons on droid starfighter would win on a direct hit. The later Mark 3 Katarn armor could stop a light cannon round, and take a direct grenade hit, with a clone jumping directly on top of a grenade. Clone commandos were ridiculously tough, but still flesh and blood.

    • @FormerGovernmentHuman

I think we just don’t see it as the same scale battle as one another.
My perception is immediately upon exiting hyperspace they were set upon by an entire fleet. Just one droid control ship has 139,000 battle droids, 1500 troop carriers, 1500 vulture droids and 6000 tanks. We see one droid control ship AND a capital ship. The capital ship has 1,500,000 droids and so many starfighters it doesn’t even quantify.
So in essence this platoon of clone commandos went against a possible force of more than 1,600,000 droids, completed their objective and atleast one made it back to Coruscant.
So in the right perspective what they accomplished was a miracle with or without any armor deficiencies.

Here's a crazy theory - that "sudden respiratory failure" that killed Oviedo was actually Sidious executing him.
The reason for this theory is because Clone Commandos aren't generally deployed for minor missions, such as this escort mission appeared to be. Even more unlikely is that more than one squad of Commandos would be deployed for such a mission or that they would be escorting the VIP's vessel on separate ships and not aboard the VIP's, where they would have been more effective.
No, they weren't escorting him as a his protectors. He was their captive. Someone wanted Oviedo brought in to be dealt with and to make sure he didn't slip away, Commandos were sent to guard him. And the only other being that had direct command over the Clone Commandos besides their creators and the Jedi Council, was the Chancellor himself.
For whatever reason, Sidious wanted or needed Oviedo removed, most likely because he was leaking important Republic secrets to the Separatists without Sidious' consent or supervision. Information that could allow the Separatist a quick victory, not to mention that Oviedo could easily also sabotage the equipment that his company creates, which adds another dangerous factor to the mix.
Therefore; if your playing both sides against each other and you already planned which side you want to win eventually, having someone you don't control leak important information you don't want the other side to know can easily and completely ruin everything you have planned. It would only make sense that said individual's public image be ruined completely and then be eliminated in as discrete a manner as possible, and it would only make even more sense that you would send your best to make sure this individual doesn't escape your wrath.

Of course actually doing that is a whole different story, considering the logistics, economy and just general time and resources they would need to do all that, and the millions of other things that could go wrong.
Really, just using an entire army of soldiers who's origins aren't fully understood and who may very well be traitors that severely outnumber you and could destroy you if they felt like it wasn't a good idea to begin with, but sadly the Jedi just weren't fully prepared for all out warfare because...well at that point they were pretty confident in their own abilities and strenght, arrogant even. well there was that scene in one of the first episodes that Yoda taught the clones about how different they are from each other, reminded them how different they are. The point is that Yoda is wise, and senses great disturbances with each clone, but they're are good clones. so most of them have betrayed the jedi during Order 66 but not the entire clone army. Rex, Wolfe, Gregg and possibly more still new what kind of orders they were given and still carried some out BUT when Rex recognised that former Jedi master Krell, was giving out orders that even the clones recognised that there were better plans than leading the troopers into battle and sacrificing some lives. So arrested him and another cline who thought "Good soldiers follow orders", the point is not all the clones troopers are as bad as they seem.
