Making a zero cost terrarium in the garden (How to make a terrarium from your backyard)
Currently I am visiting my parents at my hometown and thought of building a terrarium using available materials and plants from the garden.
It worked out ZERO cost for me as everything used was available at home and in the garden and nothing was purchased separately for this project.
Hence the title of the video.
A couple of materials could not be used like activated carbon due to non-availability. Springtails were also not used in this project due to the same reason.
I hope this video inspires you to build your own terrarium with available materials and maybe incurring some minimal cost if not zero cost.
1 lit kitchen container used for the build
Gravel from backyard for drainage layer
Mix of garden soil, leaf litter, sand and coco fiber for substrate
    Plants used:
    Moss
    Native Ferns
    Boston Fern
    Pellionia Repens
    Coleus
    Mazus Pumilus
    Creeping Fig (Ficus Pumila)
Aerial roots of Ficus Microcarpa and bits of dry leaves used for detailing.

Your "overgrown" garden is beautiful! It must be a joy to be there looking for nice things to keep in your terrarium. Especially when you have a good knowledge of the plant and animal species around, so you can go, "Hey! I know that plant!" or "Woah!! Look at that ___".
Your terrarium looks astonishing as well! I love how creative you were with it. For example, you used old Bonsai roots to add details to it.
It's like a perfect little display of that wonderful garden. 😁

Looks great and the price is right! Thinking local really removes some barriers for entry to the hobby, and you don't absolutely have to be in a tropical zone to be successful. I don't have a lot of stem plants in my area that are both appropriate for terrariums and attractive, but I've taken to keeping baggies with me when I'm out and about and have quite the little moss farm going as a result. Just a little bit from here and there and some patience and you can have some ready at hand, acclimated and pest free. I'm starting to experiment with blending the types I've found for color palette and texture for a living wall project, and it is good fun for no cost.

So many textures and colors in this terrarium. I love it. Your mom has a great diversity in her garden. The coleus plants are gorgeous. I am going to buy some coleus seeds now and make a terrarium with just seeds. It will keep me happy this winter. Enjoy your stay at your mom's.

OMYGOD such a GORGEOUS overgrown garden, and I love how your terrarium turned out!!
I have a few of the plants you showed and would love to make one but question... Can I make a mix of potting soil, orchid bark, sphagnum moss and maybe some perlite, like a "chunky mix", would that work in terrariums?

Can we use any plant??? Here in tropical India??? When I don't even know anything about the plants not even their names

Not all plants will work inside a closed terrarium. Feel free to experiment and see which ones work for you. You could also check my videos on compatible plants.
