What is a preamp? What does it do in your rig? Why is it positioned in the middle of the signal chain?I'm really new to guitar effects sir that's why i have a lot of questions 😅

JHS has a video on it, just search “what is a preamp JHS pedals”
in short a preamp is designed to go pre-amplifier. it’s usually designed and voiced differently so you can use it as a substitute for your own amplifier head, but there’s nothing wrong with running it in the front, like a normal overdrive would be (guitar>pedal>amp).
Some pedals advertised as preamps may be better in the front, while some pedals may be even better as preamps (like the metal zone). CSGuitars also has a good video on this.
