Nice Joe Dirt Halloween custom!!!
Sick vid! Everytime I see videos of the point I wonder how often people get their lines tangles combat fishing like that! haha
It happens a lot out there and it has to be way worse since covid. Neighboring people using 1 oz. weights in 6 foot swells a couple years ago.
Definitely a lot of tangles. But everybody was cool and able to resolve the messes quickly.
Depends on the crowd. It's certainly gotten worse in recent years with influx of new anglers. Notwithstanding, I've been elbow to elbow in numerous drum bites where it's like a ballet and a beautiful dance of 8 n bait with well versed folks in the art. It's surf fishing mecca and nowhere quite like it on Earth.
Saw one guy using braid on the point some years ago, fish took off and his line cut off 5-6 others lines. There was almost a brawl. Don't use braid when fishing close to other fisherman. Banned on most if not all piers.
Emerald Isle, NC not as many ppl and the fishing is just as good! Blues, Albicore, Pomps, flounder, Spanish, spots and mullet last week. We'll see what this week brings tomorrow!
Shhhhh
Nope on a rope. The fishing in EI can't hold a candle to the outer banks.
@@reb0706 Right, the fishing in EI can be productive but not as good typically as say Hatteras. Love emerald isle, but it's pretty touristy now.
@@adamklingerman8806 Its not as touristy with a beach driving permit ;) , partly because the permits are so expensive compared to other places but the fishing this year has been INCREDIBLE.
@@reb0706 shhhh let em think it’s better so where else.
First use of the bummy stick in Top Sail last week, loved it
Glad you like it! It’s a great rod!
What part of topsail? Was it big reds?
Althought crowded, everyone seems to be friendly and not getting mad at each other. Good to see that!
It's always like that here in Eastern NC, extremely friendly people down here. I've grown up in Emerald Isle my whole life and when that mullet run is going there is not much that can top it from a fishing stand point.
Great Vid Bro. Sadly, I can’t do the crowded beaches anymore. It’s not for me.
Pier fishing when the tarpin are running but off the beach.....that's what that crowd reminded me of!! A little stressful but its cool to see other places and how they fish. Glad you enjoyed it and hope you do well the rest of the trip....
Looks like you all were at the Point….. always, always exciting…. And always loaded with folks fishing in the fall…… we’ll, spring, summer and fall..🤣🤣🤣
The point is the real deal! Be respectful to the local legends and they’ll help you learn!
It's so good to see you on our famous home coast. When I was young men would be lined up in chest waders catching 50+ pound stripers and equally as large red drum. 15 plus pound chopper blues were everywhere! I hope you catch one of those giant blue fish and a red drum of a lifetime! Your host is a great ambassador for the OBX. STAY BUMMY
The point never disappoints! Glad we were able to get on a few fish!
Wow! That is insanely busy! I’d get too stressed fishing in crowds like that! Glad you enjoyed yourself though Matt. Hope you manage to snag one of those big blues! Peace and love from the UK.
I fish there all the time - zero stress fishing there. Everyone knows what they are doing and we work together.
That was really cool to see. I'm in the foothills of NC, far from the beach. If you want to go trout fishin' in the mountains I know some pretty spots and I'm happy to show you.
It's cool to me how excited you get about the big blue. I've always loved catching them but so many at the OBX talk about them like you with the hardheads on the gulf, as if they are trash. My biggest was 17#'s
Kool man! Glad to see the beach bum on OBX. This is a fisherman’s paradise! “High Tide on Sound Side”
The biggest Bluefish I ever caught, I caught right in that same spot on Thanksgiving Day 1987 when I was 15 years old.
19 Lbs. 12 oz. It was a full on bluefish blitz. Several hundred were caught that day. The greatest part was there was only about 1/4 of the people out there than there were in this video.
Living and working abroad it's been years since fishing the obx. Im Loving this content, thank you.
Great video. Glad you got to come to NC and experience some our OBX fishing. Maybe next time you can hook into some bull reds.
From NC I love taking fishing trips once a month. Either to my dads at kure Beach or my buddies place in sc. Gotta love the NC/SC coast. Another great video.
I remember when I was younger at oregon inlet, we missed the blitz by one day, the beach was so covered in bluefish heads you barely saw any sand, huge gator blues! Have fun bro!
Wow! I can't believe there are so many different fish coming out from the beach!👍👏🎣
Awesome! So glad this video came up on my feed. I just bought a 11 ft dagger from matt. Been fishing hatteras for only a couple years now but cant wait to get back to it. 2 reds under my belt and a few blues from the blitz. Tiny pomps from time to time. Love it.
Love the video!! I have fished some of those areas! :) I have even gone over to Ocracoke.....less crowded. Good luck!
Glad you made it to the point!
Need to try Ocracoke island. Great fishing and my favorite place on the east coast. Great video as always.
Great video glad you posted keep them coming thanks
Old stomping grounds! Back in college we used to run to Buxton on weekends (wasn't too far) and bust giant stripers and drum. Headed back in a few weeks, hope their running. Cool video!
I've been in blitzes on the surf where the blues were chasing the bait on to the beach. It was insane! And by the way, I love my Dagger!
Good beach day definitely dig the different fishing spots
Love your content, Keep up the great videos.....Love OBX
Great video. I’ve always wanted to go there and do some fishing.
Coming up next on "Beach Bum's World of Combat Fishing" we will travel to ...
(Pretty cool series: Seeing how our neighbor's are surf fishing. And to see their tackle, techniques, and game fish! I see a TV Show in the making! Throw in some local seafood cooking and you got a winner!)
Fishing The Point is insane…. It is a fishing experience not many fishermen have been involved in…. Surf fishing at its best…. My PB Blue from down there is 16 lb 8oz…
You were exactly right...that was a CROWDED beach!
Good work dude ! Tough to fish around so many people !
Great fishing, but it's just way to crowded for me. Glad you enjoyed it.
Bracketed your visit there by a week. I was there the week before and the week after. Hatteras inlet blew up with blues early in the month. Just got back from my last trip and no reds that trip but a ton of pomps and flounder just up from the inlet. Splitting my trips next year between Hatteras in early October and hopefully Emerald Isle provided I can find a rental which has been tough the last 2 years even 1 year out.
Another awsome video of hatteras island and the scenary. These videos are awsome and just keep them coming. Love it and that one bluefish was a giant one for sure.
Thanks for watching!
As a kid we caught tons of 12-15# blues and my largest was just under 18#. When they would blitz we sometimes wouldn't even bother fishing for them but run up the beach with a cooler or bucket and pick up 2-4# specks that beach themselves trying to get away from the blues.
Back about 77 or 78 I went down to the OBX's with my brother from Norfolk for the weekend.Got on the beach friday night and started seeing lots of trout.I had 3 coolers with me so we started filleting them til the coolers were full.Drove back to Nags Head and sold them to a seafood market for $.15 per #. Crashed in my truck til sun up on saturday and then drove back down to do some fishing.Started seeing lots of trout on the sand again so filled the coolers again and got ice at Buxton and drove back to Nags Head to sell those fillets. I left my brother down on the point to fish and he caught some reds and a few stripers and I don't think I even fished that wknd, lol.
Man, that is the epitome of combat fishing! Sick af
Man I was waiting for an ass whooping for using braid. 😂😅😅
Cool video !!!!! Do more of those kind of trips.
When I lived in NC I didn't fish the Outer Banks too often, mainly did freshwater. My biggest bluefish was actually in SC from a boat. It was probably 6lb. My days of fishing crowds is hopefully over! I just don't have the patience for it!
Great fishing video you can catch some big blues down there l love fishing there
Ninja Daggers are absolutely the best surf rods out there. They are beasts yet perfect for any situation. I’ve yet to fish OBX this year but using a 12’ dagger w/Akios F-15 and a Ninja tackle provided 13’8” Akios Hell Raiser w/Diawa 7ht millionaire ST (great deal on both from Ninja!) I caught almost a dozen 28”+ bull reds and several keeper pomps at Huntington state park beach and Tybee island in the past couple weeks. The daggers are perfect as I can switch from a spinning reel to a bomber caster on the fly. Thank you Matt and Matt!!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That’s the reason why I bought a kayak go where the people can’t get to
Too many people lol
It is an experience out there but you did not bring the kayak! I have been touring the southeast coasts for a while and that is the 2nd best red drum fishing spot I have found in October! The Pamlico Sound holds many more treasures. The large (Gator) Bluefish are caught on a boat near inlets when the ocean allows in a changing tide (mostly outgoing). Bitesize baits with heavy flouro instead of wire has got my best catches.
Glad your having a Good Time Hear in NC.
love fishing outer banks
My first time at the point was, for lack of better term, more filtered than your typical new guy. My dad had been there several times several years ago and told me all the unwritten rules of the drum line, etc. Having a good idea what to expect for the spring run hoping for a drum blitz, I was still surprised. Tangled with many lines and nobody was yelling at me or each other for it. About everyone had the patience of a saint there, we’ll most people at least. When the drum guys saw a couple dudes out there with braid during the evening… let’s just say they “made friends.” Good video.
Waaow nice place my friend, beautiful beach
BBB, That's how we roll in N.C, Glad you had a good time.
Fun times! Always interesting to see the differences between gulf and east coast-some of those rods were telephone poles compared to what I use. Almost to 100k!
When I left Norfolk for the west coast I sold all my surf rods as I figured I'd not have any use for 14' to 16' long rods on the west coast. The rods I had were not sectioned and had to be transported on my roof rack all the way down to the OBXs. Using 8oz sinkers with 30' of 100# shock leader to take the shock of casting out to beyond the breakers. Lots of good memories fishing. It wasn't as crowded as this video at the point.
OBX kicks ass !!! Caught a bunch there
Gotta love the OBX driving on the beach to go surf fishing little bluefish are called Taylor's large are Hatteras blues at least that is what they are called in the Carteret County part of the OBX.
That scene with all the trucks on the beach is the same as Fraser Island in Queensland Australia when the Tailor ( Blue Fish ) run. We call small Tailor chopper tailor which is common to use as bait for other species.
just got to emerald isle for the 2nd time in a month about a 4-5 hr ride from statesville nc i can see immediatlly why so people loved it out here i couldnt believe it when i looked down the beech and i could see more trucks amd jeeps than people om the beach all with multiple poles in the water
Fun bite. Thanks Matt
Crowded yes but not as bad as the Salmon River in NY during the fall run of salmon. Good to see you fishing different areas and still catching.
I guess after fishing the crowded beaches in NC you realize what a paradise you have down in Alabama !!!
BTW if you can get to Long Island in November...that is where you will find monster bluefish ...at least you could 30 years ago...but suspect the Jack Cravalle is just as good a fight....
Thanks for the videos brother!!!
Another great video!
Awesome Awesome Thanks
When reds show up it elbow to elbow at point love it
The big Blues show up around Thanksgiving there! and We called the small blues taylor blues best for eating..
The point on Cape lookout is crazy with fisherman and high winds but it produces great fishing.
Looked more like fishing on a headboat with all the tangles 😂😂
I am on the east coast, fish long island sound, and nothing but small blues all season. The big ones were off shore in deeper water. Still this is on my bucket list to fish one day
Looked like a great time, my biggest blue fish was 46.6 inches it was huge curled up the sides of the boat.
never have to worry about this type of madness here in australia , you often get whole beaches with hot bites to yourself .
Love the baby blue trash talk
I bet the East Coast fisherman got a lot of entertainment watching the excitable little chap from Alabama. love you man, all my best to you and your lovely family.
It has been rough this way the past few days, specially this past weekend. Nonetheless, the bite is picking up!
Hey man, you’re in my neck of the woods. When I was there about a month ago there were no stripers or big blues around anywhere. The water temps were just too high for good fishing. Glad you did well!
No strippers? Did you hit the right clubs?
@@chris6054 Ha ha ha!
Great video!
A lot of tournaments going on, I was there. Nice this week, thinned out . Good whiting bite for about 4 hours
I was just at Seaview pier in North Topsail nc. We slayed Spanish and Bluefish. There was also A guy that hooked A 29 lb King Mackerel there. I personally caught A 19 inch Blue and 2 17 inch Mackerel and 2 good sized octopus YUM ! Plenty of pin fish and Spade fish in between blow ups.
Bravo 👏
Great to see you enjoying our slice of paradise. Definitely should be on every fisherman’s bucket list. Just wondering how much grief they gave you for slinging braid. As always great content, keep it coming🤙
Most people were throwing braid with their led. If you notice nobody was bottom fishing during this time.
@@BamaBeachBum Ah gotcha, yeah casting for Blues and Spanish but usually braid is a big no-no around the Point; especially around Drum fishermen.
I have never seen that many guys surf fishing crazy
Up in jersey and Long Island we catch 20 pound blues on big poppers in the spring. Gotta check that out. Around Late April and early may
there you go again catching little blues
...good one, keep safe and have a great week...
That’s a cool Yukon xl behind you there
I’d love to know the date you at the point, I was probably there when you were there. Glad you had a good time fishing in our little pond.
Last Tuesday.
Matt come to Ohio in February thru March a Walleye Run in upper Ohio ,
Maumee River Walleye Run !
Talk about Combat Fishing on each side of the Maumee River .
For miles and miles !
Come to CT. That’s a small blue for up here.
Awesome video👍
Almost 100k!
Little fish for a little man…. 😂😂😂 kidding bro. Good video
When in NJ we called the small young blues snappers (the size of the schools are enormous) large blues greaseballs, in NC they call the small to medium size Taylor Blues...I haven't seen a giant blue in NC like I've seen in NY or NJ
In the 80 and 90s parts of Fraser Island in Queensland would be literally shoulder to shoulder fishing for stretches of a half mile when the tailor (bluefish) run in winter.
It's all 4WD access only and it'd still look like Main Street.
Standard geat was 12 foot rods, big spinning reels or 6 inch Alvey sidecasts with 40 pound mono, steel leader and a gang of 3x 4/0 hooks. Usually a whole pilchard or a slab of mullet for bait.
Smaller tailor here are called choppers and bigger ones are greenbacks.
A school will often cover the size of a football field or bigger.
I'll be there this weekend!
Few locals on the point I saw. Must have been some good fish there.
Man your my favorite fisherman
Hey B.B.B. if you want big Blue Fish come to Southern New Jersey.🐟🐟🐟
Awesome video I’m dying to fish OBX!
"I don't want to hear anything about me catching little fish anymore" says the guy that catches little fish...
weekends it gets crazy.. better on weekdays to just camp out and get on early. need a good 4-wheel drive though.
They also call smaller bluefish, Taylor Blues in the OBX
Sub to this guy!! Awesome content as always!
The outer banks is rarely that crowded. I’m usually out there every other weekend in the spring , summer and fall.
Hey Matt Wana get some big ones up here in new england we can catch 10 to 15 pounder blue almost anywhere around here but we're also catch like 20 to 30 pound stripers in the cape cod canal if you want some fighters we've got em here
OBX fishing is awesome but those blue fish werr babies..... You need to experience a chopper or gorilla blue then you really understand where the term yellow-eyed demons comes from, tight lines ,that was a great video
