I waited to comment and rate until I'd tried this for a while. I did this every day for several weeks (take your time folks!!) and today for the first time in my life I got into Padmasana. I couldn't hold it for very long but I DID IT! This video DOES teach useful stretching, this DOES work. Take your time, Take it slow. Honor your body and don't over push.
Can't wait to get down and try this! I remember as a child being able to get into lotus no problem, mainly as a way to show off. 30 years later and my being able to sit cross legged is enough to impress some. I love the idea of sitting on the floor as a way to spur progress; it seems so obvious!
Ah yes how our flexibility changes over the years! It was my teacher in India that would tell us to sit on the floor as we were waiting for our class to begin, he would say to us "sit on the floor to open your hips!". So obvious yet somehow not obvious enough!
Thank you! I looked at so many beginners yoga videos until I found Yours! After I was able to complete my lotus pose (albeit not too comfortably) but progress on the right side! I haven’t stretched hips in YEARS!!! I look forward to stretching with you every!
Thank you! Yes I have students of all levels and from experience I know that 'one size doesn't fit all' and so I try to give as many options as possible :-)
It really helps. Before I can do the pose soso on one side, and not at all with the other leg up. After, I can do it a little bit easier on my "good side", and on the "bad side" it becomes possible, still horrible, but possible! ☺ And the best part is, hip flexibility is so important in many asanas, so this not only helps with padmasana but many others as well.
Thankyou so much for a very good explanation. I tend to get my hips tight very easily if i leave the practice. With this practice i am already feeling a lot better. 🙏

Thank you for the feedback! My main practice is Ashtanga yoga and so the breathing I generally follow is ujjayi breathing (also called breathing with sound).
This is definitely one meditation pose! Here's a little more information: "Best known in the Buddhist and Hindu traditions are the lotus and kneeling positions; other options include sitting on a chair, with the spine upright."
@@ThisYogaLife-ak i have always meditated with back support but i am getting tired of sitting down hahahahaha , i like sukhasana but i dont know why my neck hurts after it , i am gonna try in a chair
(sorry for late reply) interesting question! It really depends on your hip flexibility! However, the more we sit on the floor in any position, the more we help you open up the hips. Hope that helps!
Hi Aleksia! Hope you are doing well. Could you tell me what is the opposite position of lotus? For example if we sit too long in a lotus position, what would reverse the muscles in neutral? Hope you understand what i mean 🙂 Bye Marko
Good question! Yes lotus pose always came naturally to me. However, I have taught this exact little sequence in several classes and even my less flexible students noticed a great improvement.
@@ThisYogaLife-ak ok.! I can sit also in lotus with ease before started yoga and without warm up. I'm a student for three months. It's dangerous to sit in lotus without warm up?
@@ΓιάννηςΠεχράκης dangerous is a big word! I would say if you can sit in lotus and there is no pain or discomfort in your knees while in the pose and after, then you should be ok.
@@reiki_healer it could be argued that full lotus involves both feet up. Regarding the knee, perhaps my left hip needs a little more opening. However, even if it is slightly above the floor, it is still considered full lotus.

The before / after effect is true ! Padmasana is one of my goal. So I will keep practicing those stretches.
Thank you for sharing.

Very good sequence, specially explaining about the knee protection
Thank you! Yes we do need to protect our knees!
This was so helpful! Have struggled with lotus pose so much for a long time. Will keep practicing these stretches. Thank you!

That's lovely to hear! Welcome to my channel :-)
Great directions on how to do it.
Happy you found it helpful!
I wasn’t sure this was going to work because my double pigeon is tight as well, but I got farther into lotus than ever before 🎉
Thank you I managed to do it for the first time. I have been practicing yoga since Covid-19.
Where is your yoga mat from? It's great😊
Great book recommendation! Can you link your yoga-wear, please?

Hi Marko! Sorry for late reply! The simplest thing to do would be to straighten the legs and help the blood flow again :-)
Thanx
I can do lotus lying down and it is more comfortable than cobblers, should i keep doing that? I am slight knock knee, and toe in
How long can you sit in lotus pose?? Also highly recommend underwater yoga video?
I don’t think I’ve ever tested how long I can stay! Several minutes at least before my feet start to go numb.
could you do the lotus pose before started yoga?

My knee is so high up off the ground when I put the first foot on my thigh ):
Take it easy as you’ll need to be patient when opening up the hips. Just make sure you never experience any pain in your knees!
I can do it, but the skin of my feet hurt and can only hold a minute
That may be a tightness in your hips. Keep up with the hip opening sequence and gradually you’ll see you’ll be able to hold it longer :-)

Chellenge meditation in lotus sit 10 min please
I'm not sure what you mean exactly!
это не полный лотус, ваше левое колено в воздухе, а должно быть на полу
upd: кажется, правое тоже
