What state do you live in? In new york where I live you can only make a citizens arrest if you witness a felony. You can not make a citizens arrest if you do not witness a crime being committed. You're not an officer of the law you have no right to do that. If it's a prank like this and you tackle the guy. You still get arrested for false imprisonment/illegal detention/battery charge. I attend college for criminology.
Arizona Revised Statutes 13-1204:
"...4. If the person commits the assault while the victim is bound or otherwise physically restrained or while the victim's capacity to resist is substantially impaired."

yea i'm not sure where you live but most states (if not all) you need to witness a felony. like B9King937 said. In some cases security guards can arrest for retail fraud (misdemeanor) but they have to be employed as security.
