Hi mate! A question , I am new in photography, at minute 5:30 you put 2 filters together on the lens...So, sorry for the stupid question, if I buy separately ND and a Mist filter, I can always decide to put them together at same time or it depends on the brand? Thanks un advance the reply🤜🏾🤛🏻
@@NatesFilmTutorials BPM=black pro mist. Freewell has the regular VND without mist add-on.. Freewell also has the magnetic filter lineup for fixed ND, mist, CPL, clear night, etc..
interesting, I am seeing several people talking about the mist like filters. I don't even know if I would want that? I shoot 4K to get clear and clean footage why fog it up? if I wanted to do that I would do it in editing. Now I do use variable ND filters when shooting in bright sun, that makes sense.
It’s a preference. In my opinion the mist filters help mimic the look of film when exposed to reflected light of the film gate. You get a natural bloom in highlights and lifted shadows. It’s another tool to get closer to the look you want to achieve. Some like the sharp ultra contrast look, others like a gentle softness to the image, neither are wrong
I have used the mist effect outdoors. it does have a stylistic look that's not for every project so I might sway towards a regular filter if you are primarily shooting outdoors. Hope this helps!
I've just found your channel. Really good stuff going on here 👏🏻👏🏻. For beginner videographer, what non-variables filter do you suggest to start with? I was think about CPL, 3 and 6 stops. Any thoughts? Cheers!
Thanks! I have the 3 and 4 stop from Freewell, which stacking them magnetically allows me to achieve 7 stops total! I find this to cover my bases. I think you’ll you’ll be the best judge of what your needs are.
@@NatesFilmTutorials But you dont want to stack fliters, hence this is why this combined solution is important. Stacking filters makes back-reflections ugly.
What about if your inside and just want the mist , you're stuck with a ND and so higher iso ... That's a bummer that you can't go to a 0 or close level of ND . That's why I'm hesitating at the moment . I love the convenience tho
Yeah if you want only mist then you would be at a minimum of 1 stop of ND. I’d say if you know you’ll be using mist indoors for the majority of your work then I would invest in a separate mist filter
Stacking the Freewell ND mist filter onto my canon 90D & Sigma 18-35mm! Super excited to see how my setup will look 🤙🏽
Ooh It’s going to look so good. Leave a link here so I can take a look when you upload anything shot with it

Oldy but goldy GH5 ;)
Awesome! Such a great camera
Can i apply a black mist on my ldns and then a 6 stops ND+CPP filter without a box?
Just ordered this Nate. Don't let me down!
New setup, what do you think?
Have you compared with Tiffen BPM 1/8 stacked with regular Freewell VND? Or with Freewell magnetic BPM 1/8 stacked with another magnetic fixed ND?
Hey! I don't quite understand what you mean, can you explain

@@frankfeng2701 as you saying i can out on my black pro-mist 1/8 and on top of that add another ND filter?

Glad it was helpful!
how do you feel about the mist filters for primary shooting outdoors and landscape video? should I just go with the regular?

What about "clean" variable ND + mist filter (when i need diffusion) solution? Is it good idea? I don't want always mist effect but really like VND.
Yep! They sell both a variable ND and a mist filter so you can choose when you want the effect

@@NatesFilmTutorials thanks ! well thinking about it 1 stop ND would be alright with modern cameras iso capabilities . Thanks again . Nice one
Did you notice any difference in diffusion strength between the 2-5 and 6-9? One RUclipsr mentioned they noticed a difference in quality. Thanks.
Hmmm... I need to take a look at that!
Thanks so much mate!😊
