      @Turquoise Cheetah These comments might not stop an abuser from being abusive, but somebody who faces abuse might come across this comment might find it in themselves to stop justifying their abuser and finally cut ties with them. Some "creative" might come across this comment and think twice about the abuse-glorifying character that they have written into their story/show.
      If none of the above happens, I still have the right to comment under a public youtube video. Whether its virtue signalling or not is something for the public to decide. I know my intentions behind posting the comment.

    There is something I want to say. When a guy doesn’t want you to hang out with other guys and doesn’t let you hang out with them, it won’t stop there. They will at some point not want you to hangout with your friends, and then it will escalate to your family and who knows what else. I speak from personal experience and this is what happened. This goes for men too. If your girlfriend doesn’t want you hanging out with other girls it will escalate to what I said. When your partner doesn’t want you hanging out with the opposite gender, you need to leave that relationship! It will only get worse from there.

      In 2021, the Pence rule makes all the sense. Hang out with all the women you want, as long as your wife/so is there and there are witnesses to kill any metoo false allegations BS.
      It's why companies aren't even hiring or mentoring women anymore in some cases. Throw in 'anti-racism' and before long this will be a non-coed, segregated nation. At least then no one can accuse anyone of anything and all spaces are safe. We did it!

    • @emmad4308
      @emmad4308 3 года назад +41

      @@RobertMorgan Robert that has absolutely nothing to do with the discussion, it was about tactics abusers use to remove their victim from their support systems, slowly overtime so they don't realise and by the time they do, and want out, they can't ask anyone for help easily.
      Which goes for both men and women, though unfortunately women are far more likely to be the victim of it.
      Also, me too bs? I know who I don't want to be in a room with, it's you. Anyone that calls it bs clearly has 1) never spoken to a woman in their life about what harrassment they have received (hint, it's more than you think, a hell of a lot more) 2) doesn't have any respect for women. Feel free to correct me on this, but considering how you have worded everything, that is the general vibe I'm getting.
      As for anti-racism? Why is that even an issue for you??? That's a GOOD thing. It means people are not being discriminated against for their race and are being treated with respect. Please clarify. Robert racism is a bad thing. People not wanting to be called slurs, have rude remarks aimed at them because of their race, and not being killed by police for existing is extremely reasonable.
      It will not result in segregation of people (it's the last thing anyone wants, why do you think particularly people of colour would want that again??), it is simply people wanting to be treated with respect and not get assaulted/killed and treated like a human being, regardless of their gender, sexuality or race.
      It's that simple. Literally "hey, don't be a wanker and don't assault people".
      Safe spaces are made for particular groups of people, mostly because sometimes people outside of those spaces are hostile and extremely intolerant, and it's good to have support groups. I myself are in an autism support group, because I'm autistic and non-autistic people have different experiences that I cannot share with them. But I can share similar experiences with other autistic people, and we can learn from each other.
      Heck, you could argue churches are a safe space for Christians.
      Here in Australia, we have men's sheds. Mental health for men is particularly important, especially as we have a blokey culture here. Men's mental health in general worldwide is also not very good, it's appalling actually. There needs to be more support for it, but I digress.
      Men's sheds are a safe space where men can share their woodworking, metal working, engineering etc skills and also talk about their experiences and feelings, and it's been extremely helpful for men with mental health issues, and for men in general.
      These examples are not segregation; they are like groups of people gathering and supporting each other for a period of time. They still very much interact with people outside of those groups (bit harder for us autistics because autism affects social skills, but that's why the group is there so we can work on that).
      Tldr; women's experiences are very much real (am woman can sadly confirm), they are not bullshit 99% of the time, racism bad and basically just treat everyone nicely? It's not hard and it's free.

What I hate is that she plays it off as because Christian was abused he has a need to abuse others. Now, that does happen but the percentages are very low. So the whole “Edward’s stalking is less bad” comment. I think that person was referring to KrimsonRogue’s review of 50 Shades. Krimson did not argue that Edward’s stalking wasn’t as bad as or less than Grey’s. Krimson stated that Edward was undoubtedly a creepy stalker, but “his” stalking came easy to him. What I got from that statement was that unfortunately yes people can and do stalk others like how Edward does Bella. But to stalk someone at the rate Edward was doing to Bella ( breaking directly in her bedroom 2 stories high, unnoticed, staying for hours, for several nights, for months) seems almost impossible for a human to do. Meyers celebrates Edward’s stalking, but because of the impracticality of Edward’s stalking and the fact that the story is in a fantasy world, his stalking can be easily overlooked (no excuse, just saying). EL James mimics the stalking in Grey’s character possibly hoping for the same pay off. Unfortunately, for James’s story, that plan backfired because the story is set in reality. With enough funds or skill, Grey’s form of stalking can and does happen handily. Not to mention Edward wants to love Bella. Grey blatantly wants to hurt Anastasia.

    • @spokeforhours
      @spokeforhours 4 года назад +75

      Agreed. I think it's also about the amount of "steps" it takes for each of them. Edward alone can just on a whim decide to very easily break into Bella's room, he's also doing it in secret, only he knows and he'd probably be too ashamed to admit it someone else what he's doing. Christian is very comfortable talking to the guy he pays to do it for him and also goes to more trouble than Edward by driving long distances and interrupting his work schedule to stalk Ana.

    Just a quick PSA about Christian and therapy: Showing up to therapy is not the same and DOING therapy. Therapy shakes you up, because it's not just about what happened to you and how it made you who you are, but also "these are the unhealthy parts of you, how do you want to work on them?". It's understanding where people went wrong in the past and led to you today, but also knowing that you are in control of who you become and how you act. Have an automatic response to triggers like myself? Find a therapist who will teach you to slow down the moment or even stop yourself reacting when you feel the emotions - and then calmly explain that you've been triggered and need some space. Self soothe, and then come back. Theapry is about healing, not abolishing a person's responsibility over their own actions.
    IT IS NO ONE'S JOB TO FIX YOU EXCEPT FOR YOURSELF.

    The thing that gets me about these stories and the way they're written is that they make Dominants seem like all we think about when we see a pretty face is what that person would look like in handcuffs and chains. In my entire life as a Dominant, and we're talking over three decades, I've probably had a thought close to that once, and it was simply the idea that a person I knew looked pretty when they cried. That was it. It's the stereotype that when a man meets a woman, all he's thinking about is how she'd look straddling him. If a Dominant, male or female, only thinks about Dominating every appealing person they meet, then they have a problem.

Obviously both books have problems but I see one as obviously fictional with no relation to our world and one as a piece of fiction that I can not separate from the world we live in.

If this man was looking for a slave specifically, I might think that the way he goes about things are a degree above completely unacceptable, but that's all. He only gets away with the shit he's pulling because he's rich, and seeing as that part is true, that should terrify the shit out of people. If Christian Grey lived in a trailer park and drove a '67 Ford pickup, we'd be watching an episode of Criminally Listed. The sad thing is that to be a good Dominant doesn't require money. It doesn't require a playroom or any of that crap. It doesn't require a single toy. Some of the best Dominants I know are just blue collar humans, and really, I think that would be a more interesting story to tell. Grey's perversions become acceptable because his wealth makes him eccentric. And that taps into the psyche of the bored, middle-aged house spouse who feels unappreciated and wants to remove the burden of responsibility from their lives. That contract he made up should have benefited them both equally. And his relationship with Mrs. Robinson was so disrespectful to any would-be sub, it was disgusting. Applicable for so many characters nowadays, acknowledging your wrongs and yet continuing to do them is not how to flesh out a character. Pointing out your flaws does not make them ok!

    I think someone might have misrepresented what the person said about "it's easier for Edward to stalk Bella and thus makes it better". What they said is "at least in Twilight Edward is a vampire which means he didn't have to go out of his way to stalk Bella, where as what Christian does is very intentional and possible so it makes it more creepy because it's more "realistic". The person didn't mean to condone Edward's stalking vs Christian's.

    This brings some really good memories back. I remembered being forced to watch the twilight when it first came out. When they got to the part where edward is just looking down at the girl while she sleeps, I was like "Uh wtf?" and my girlfriend at the time was like, "Aww isn't that cute?". "Um no, not really. Kinda weird." "Well maybe you just aren't as romantic." I will never forget the look on her face when she woke up later that night and found me looking down at her. That look was far worth the ensuing argument and feeling like a weird stalker. Plus I think I ruined that franchise for her forever so brownie points. Moral of this story is, if any of you think this behavior is OK or cute or adorable or romantic. Try it. Let me know how fast everything burns down around you.

    Concerning 4:51 : I was not the one who made that comment, but I am pretty sure the original one who made the comment the commentator mentioned was Dominic Noble in one of his Fifty Shades of Grey videos. I am also pretty sure he was not in favour of the stalking (Gods, no) but his original comment was something along the likes of that Edward's stalking was too him less creepy than Grey's, because Edward's could be explained away by his vampire powers, making it less real in a way. While Grey's stalking was a lot worse, because it could happen in real life.
    Probably grossly misrepresenting the point he made, will edit comment when I find it.

    • @jaycievictory8461
      @jaycievictory8461 4 года назад +32

      Agreed. What Dom actually said was that Edward's total disrespect for privacy, and his controlling and stalking of Bella, could be explained - not excused - by the fact he's a vampire and has had no close contact with humans for one hundred years and therefore has no concept of acceptable behaviour. Dom's opinion was that this could have been an interesting character arc if the narrative ever acknowledged how wrong his behaviour was and Edward learned and changed his behaviour. But it didn't. Instead Edward's behaviour is held out as romantic and Dom had a big problem with that.
