    This is a really simple watercolour that captures that feeling of emptiness! It reminds me of a trip many years ago (almost 20) up to north Canada and drilling holes in the frozen lake to go fishing with some great guys from Montreal! The music in the time lapse part of this video is made by friend Aaron Stone. Links to his channel on Isight Timer and twitter is below. He is an amazing man with sound!

    The colours used were: (all Winsor and Newton Artist Quality Paints)
    Yellow Ochre
    Mix of Winsor Blue (red shade) and Light Red
    It was painted onto a half sheet of Rives BFK etching paper 280gsm, white, 38cm x 56cm.
    The brushes used were one and two inch hake brushes and a small series 7 round sable for the trees and bird.
    Happy painting everyone!
    Cheers
    Scott

    I tried to recreate this on three times. I re-watched it five times. and now I think, that you have rather thick paint in the cups and it goes uneven onto the brush. that is how the loose stripes come in and why this all in all look more interesting, than what I did. and now... another try :-)

    • @ScottSwinson
      @ScottSwinson  2 года назад +1

      Hi funny girl! The paint is thick at times but isn’t uneven. My brush is uneven. I often use a fan brush that is hacked up with a pair of scissors. Good luck with your 4th try!

      Hi Susan! Good luck returning to watercolour! My advice is to work small, with strong pigment and large(ish) brushes so you keep it simple and get to know the medium again! If I can help just ask. cheers Scott

    what method is used to secure top of paper. to avoid buckling?

    • @ScottSwinson
      @ScottSwinson  2 года назад

      Hi Pistol Woman! Most of the the time I use 3M magic tape on all 4 sides with about 25% on the paper and 75% on the board. I use 300gsm paper and most of the time that stops a huge amount of buckling. If I completely saturate it or I am working large then I really should stretch my paper more often than I do or use 600gsm paper but it's pretty expensive when painting large like I do!

    I do have a question for you about your signature - it didn't look like you were writing an "ss"(?) Does your signature represent something different?

    • @ScottSwinson
      @ScottSwinson  3 года назад +1

      Hi dragonflycat, yes a very simple watercolour with very few strokes. In terms of the signature I have two different signatures, one for more traditional paintings which is my name painted in cursive like writing and the second one is for more minimalist paintings and that is my wife's bank stamp she used when living in Japan for 2 years and a stylised "S" with it. It's a way of saying thanks to her for the year we spent apart while I spent that time with Tony Smibert in Deloraine Tasmania. Thanks for watching. Cheers Scott
