Vancouver 2010 and London 2012 will always be my favorite. I probably have more nostalgia playing those games than any other video game I’ve ever played in general. I recently got Tokyo 2020 and although it’s a fun game it will never compare to the early 2010s. That was when the series peaked. ❤️🔥

This has to be one my favorite concepts for a spin-off series yet. The Olympics being an eventful union of countries around the world and this being an eventful union of two beloved game franchises.
Suk-Mike-Hok Tokyo was pretty good, but Rio looked awful in my opinion animation wise, they could've been polished up a bit more. I'm personally more of a fan of the rendered openings as I always found it makes game openings more special. The first three games openings were exciting through the enhanced personally and action through cgi.

All of them look amazing but the first two in particular are two of the most beautiful openings to a video game, graphics wise. You’d never guess that those graphics were from the Wii, which was largely underpowered compared to the PS3 and Xbox 360. Yet the intros are so stunning that they look like games released in the eighth generation of consoles (Nintendo Switch, PS5 and Xbox Series X)
I don’t understand why they didn’t keep doing them pre-rendered. I’m guessing their animation team was shortened and that’s why a lot of animation is reused in-game.

I'm guessing Sega made the 3D models and cutscenes. Plus, the in-game models are accurately based off of the CGI models seen in the cutscenes, only lower poly. You can edit the in-game models to look like the CG ones using Photoshop (textures) and various 3D modeling techniques found in any 3D modeling program.

Sega has this animation studio called Marza animation planet which animated & edited all these openings. It is a Sega game made entirely by Sega after all.
I hope Mario & Sonic will meet again in the 2024 Olympic Games. If not, I WILL be disappointed at Nintendo and Sega. They have been fighting over which video game company is the best for far too long.

They should just make every game like London 2012. Have an equal amount of dream and normal events, original minigames like in Mario Party and also change what original events are in each game. We don’t need the 100 and 4x100 in all of them. What about 800 or baseball or synchronized swimming?
