The Gallatin Philosophy

The Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University (NYU) is a model for individualized, interdisciplinary, integrated, and engaged study. This video focuses on the Bachelor of Arts (BA) program.
Creativity, flexibility, and rigor characterize the academic program at Gallatin, in both the Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Master of Arts (MA) programs. The Gallatin experience combines the best of a small college experience with the advantages of a large research university.
A Gallatin education is unique. Students work closely with a faculty adviser to design their own programs of study, which focus on an area of concentration defined by the student. Students have the opportunity to select courses from among all of NYU's distinct schools, colleges, and programs.
Gallatin also offers its own courses, including interdisciplinary seminars and small classes, in which students are encouraged to rethink the connections between their different areas of study.
Further, Gallatin supports multiple opportunities for learning outside the traditional classroom, such as global study abroad sites, internships, independent studies, and private lessons in the arts. These allow you to develop practical knowledge in your areas of interest and to link these interests to the wider world. Gallatin students can view all of New York City-a place for limitless discovery-as their extended classroom.
