If anyone says my thumbnail is unoriginal I WILL hunt them down and I WILL kiss them on the mouth.
If you know of any unknown indie games that you wish more people knew about, let me know in this comment chain. I'd love to check them out. And if you're worried about my video format changing, I'll be hopping back and forth between this series and video essays, so long as I can keep thinking of ideas. Thanks for watching.

If you want recommendations then I have a few.
Sheltered, a post-apocalyptic, resource management, base builder. I recently found it while browsing the shop and I like it quite a lot, have put some hours into it and so far very enjoyable.
Goetia, a story based puzzle game with a LOT of reading. I found it charming if a bit difficult at later points and got very invested in the story. If you decide to give it a shot I wouldn’t fault you for looking up a guide for a few specific mid to late game puzzles though.
And one a bit more popular Death’s Door, an isometric souls-like. One of the few games I hundred percented, definitely recommend even if not for a video.

Thanks to your email report of the game's bugs, we were able to address the shortcomings of Ninnin, and now it has become an even better game. I look forward to more fun game reviews from you, and I will continue to support your RUclips channel~!!!😀😀

Normally I don't recommend other RUclipsrs in the comments but since you like underrated youtubers making videos about underrated indie games, I just had to.
I can recommend Graeldon, he has a series that he plays steam games in alphabetical order. Yes, every game (unless it came out at a later date. He recently played the 100 hidden object games) He reviews them and might recommend them. There are some real gems that he has already found in a pile of garbage.
So you get some really underrated gems or some real trash but both can be fun.

The Red Alliance AI issue reminded me of a fun fact about Bioshock: the first shot an enemy fired toward you was designed to miss. This was to keep the AI fair and allow you time to assess the situation and find the opponent, as opposed to just getting shot without knowing what was happening.

some additional games I've played that I recommend:
    1. Lunacid, 14$, I played lunacid and I LOVE it, its got that kingsfield style to it, the weapons are cool and fun and it lets me use a weapons in left or right hand, there's so much to do that's fun and you can get all 3 endings on one save. I 100%d it in 29 hours and still consider going back and just replaying it to replay it (something I rarely do), its a 14$ I dont regret.
    2. Pseudoregalia, 6$, its a very fun metroidvania style platformer, the combat is lackluster and simple but not the focus at all and pretty negligible, where it shines is its movement and platforming, which is really good and makes exploration fun. They also support mods pretty well, most of the mods are outfit stuff but there's some level mods too. I feel its definitely worth the price, and id be willing to pay even 10$ for it.
    3. En Garde!, 20$ (on sale for 10 at time of writing), a nice little game with good combat, the combat is rapier focused where you wanna try and separate the enemies from groups as if you fight in a group you'll have a big disadvantage, its heavily influenced by sat am cartoons and has some humor to it, you can toss pots on enemies heads to stun them for a bit for example. Its a easy to learn game that feels hard to master. It also has accessability features that can make the game REALLY easy for those who just wanna relax and play it. The 20$ feels like a fair price for it.
    4. its not out yet, and I dont know how well known it is but V.A Proxy is a very Promising looking game, I played the demo and had a lot of fun when I got used to the game, the dev has shown that you can parry a nuke in it, need I say more? theres no listed price yet.
Now, a game I haven't played yet but am interested in and plan on playing is Dread Delusion, 20$, it looks a lot like Morrowind in both style and gameplay, and from the reviews it seems thats a good comparison. Note that its currently in an open beta.
Ill also vouch for mortal sin, ive played it and it feels really nice, I orginally thought it would feel too fast paced but its really not, i got combat like that pretty easily without trying hard.
These games are all available on steam.

    • @mattb8075
      @mattb8075 8 месяцев назад +6

Honestly the point of videos like this is to create awareness for small indie games. All the games you listed are high-profile, in one way or another. VA Proxy had multiple clips go viral on Twitter so tons of people know about it. Pseudoregalia is far from a hidden gem, it has had lots of exposure in RUclips and steam. Lunacid and En Garde were both covered by one of the biggest dark souls RUclipsrs, Iron Pineapple. This isn't to be malicious it's just a fact that they don't line up with the obscurity of the games covered.

    • @ladyjuno2456
      @ladyjuno2456 8 месяцев назад +2

@@mattb8075 I admit they definitely aren't as obscure of games as some of these are but I wouldn't call them high profile either, I hadn't seen any of em on RUclips at all myself and yeah, I wasn't sure how viral VA Proxy was bc I only knew of it bc of one clip I saw on twitter once, so I wasn't sure if it was widely known or not but it felt worth mentioning.

    • @mattb8075
      @mattb8075 8 месяцев назад +4

@@ladyjuno2456 I didn't say that to invalidate your list or anything, just that they aren't as obscure as you might think. Which is contrary to the examples in the video. I haven't heard of any of them except Power of Ten and The mushroom game.

6:14 Bro, I so feel you on this. First time I remember it hitting me hard was one Xmas when I was a kid and we were really REALLY poor, like rationing food poor. My mom baught me a Spider-Man game for a system I didn't have but I didn't know, I thought she got me a new system! I was so excited but when I couldn't find it in the presents and asked her about it, the look on her face of, "oh no! I messed up!" KILLED me. I wanted her to succeed so bad, I started trying to lie about it but it was too late. Fortunately, she was able to fix it and all was good, but I'll never forget that crushing feeling of wanting to see her succeed at what she was trying to do. And now, anytime I see someone struggle and try but it falls apart, especially fot reasons out of their control, it eats my feels alive. Empathy is painful sometimes.

    40:31
I stroke her hair, working my way up to her adorable jester cap. My nails glide along her hat, tracing the stitching to the pom-poms that lie just within my reach. I give them a jostle - a gesture that surely foreshadows what's to come.
"Oh, Jompo... Or should I say Jompni?" She giggles, her left eye twitching ever so slightly. Was it simply anxiety? Stress from living in this digital nightmare? Or perhaps, and I dare to dream that it may be true, she was flustered by my dashing appearance.
I take a Jompknee, not only to show my absolute devotion to her, but to emphasize the wit she carried within her. Soon, my child will lay alongside that wit.
"Pomni, we may be trapped in this so-called 'Amazing Digital Circus' with nary a light to guide us, and that brings great fear to us and our associates. However, there was something I found here that genuinely was amazing." I stare deep into her eyes, maybe even beyond them - to her soul.
"And what was it that you found, Jompni?" She knows the answer, but she dares me to take the next step. To take the lead. And to deliver this message, I allow what is natural to roll off my tongue. The most terrifying words I have ever said, but somehow the easiest to speak.
    "You, Pomni. I found you."
For a moment, panic appears to creep into her expression. Her eye twitches more than before. She smiles, but it seems forced. She grabs the sides of her head in apparent anguish. Was it too soon? Had I misread her? My heart was laid bare. It was too late to pull away, so I will push forward instead.
A kiss. A censor bar appears, blocking the view, but there is no need for either of us to look. We could simply feel. Our lips lock together. Her warmth reaches out to me. She blushes beneath her makeup. Her shaking stops. She melts away in my arms. Literally. I forgot this world was a cartoon. A temporary escape. An exit that we were sure wasn't simply delusion.
    We both felt it.
Pomni begins to solidify, returning to her jester form. She gasps for air, heaving in excitement and fear.
"That was no digital hallucination. I thought we were stuck in H%$#, but I just felt like I was in heaven." Pomni looks at me, calmer than she has ever looked before. For the first time, she is at ease. And the fact that it was I, Jompo, that brought this to her...
I don't know if her jester outfit is removable. But now is the time to check.
    In walks Long Johnson.
"Hey, I'm Long Johnson," says Long Johnson. Track 16 of the pilot's soundrack, *Your New Home* begins to play.
"Honestly," says Long Johnson, "I'm more of a Helluva Boss kind of guy."

What an awesome video. Honestly thank you, as an indie dev myself it’s bittersweet seeing my game out without many gameplays. I tried advertising on Reddit and basically got scolded by some dude saying I couldn’t promote my stuff on a sub that allowed me to. Still, I imagine there’s a lot of devs out there that pour their heart into creating their games and eventually to have someone like you that genuinely appreciates and sees the effort and love put into these games. I’m a busy construction worker so I’ve slowed down on my own dev projects and devlogs but I’ve always loved the process of making games and it genuinely makes me happy seeing someone share that love with others on RUclips. Wishing you the best with your channel, definitely got a new subscriber here man!

I love videos like this - both for the actual content (it's engaging, entertaining, and spotlights indie developers that I've never heard of), and also because it's great to hear what your own journey is like.
Good luck producing further content going forwards - if it's even half as good as this video is, I'll be there to watch it.

I don't have to find the very good, but I can admire people putting their heart into something they enjoy! Thanks for being so kind and highlighting this one little indiegame that otherwise would have been forgotten. 💜

Not sure how serious that "women in sports" "joke" was- kind of sends a mixed message overall. Even if you didn't mean it, people might see their views confirmed in it- even though strength can always be impressive & strategy doesn't depend on one's body either. Not to mention that varying body types & other factors blend lines & that there are systemic issues at play as well. So if you didn't mean it, I hope you make that more clear & consider what your content might do more & I'm just leaving this here for people who might actually think that way.

It feels weird regularly finding great content creators that are rather underrated so regularly. On one hand I feel encouraged to comment on the video since I feel that I'm not repeating the words of someone else before me, but on the other hand, it kinda hurts to see how small the creator is and just think that they deserve to have more of an audience. Since their numbers say to me that this is entirely fueled by passion, and that the money they might be making is likely not enough. Still considering the fact me and some friends are trying to make a game out of passion I'll share this with them since it contains some great advice and insights for aspiring indie devs like us.

I just have one suggestion. That comment on watching women's sports was either poorly framed as tongue-in-cheek hyperbole, or was legitimately thoughtless. I'm going to assume the former, judging by the rest of the video. But beware the perniciousness of cancel culture if you don't want an army of keyboard warriors in your comments… Otherwise, a great video!

For Stardrop...That is one of the reasons why i love most indie games, someone got an idea and wasn't afraid of showing it, even when they don't have the money.
This is what other devs need to do to make good games, non of that copy paste stuff or fantastic graphics but crap story kind of things. A game that tells a story, if not a story then a game that isn't frustrating (unless it's something like darksouls then forget that part). Games made with passion shine brighter than games made for a quick buck

Great video! Indie-games are the backbone of the gaming-industry. A lot of people are looking for the next break-through titles among indie-games, the next Minecraft, the next Undertales, but it's the smaller games that should be played more. They are the equivalent of street-food when traveling, you probably won't remember them afterwards but they usually have a bit spices in them that you don't get at home and make it interesting ... and often cost less than the average micro-transaction for your average AAA title.

33:00 The "sound gun" would work better as some sort of attachment that you activate once and it changes the look of your gun, while preventing you from firing it. The only way to fire your gun would be to deactivate it. I'm imagining a disc on top that floats and maybe mildly obscures vision around it with visual waves so you can tell it's functioning and that your gun won't work.
Separating the two concepts so clearly could help players keep them separate in their minds and create that trade-off you mentioned. Plus, a gun you fire to hear sound is the most absurd thing I've ever heard of, but I guess the whole game already kind of does that and it's definitely absurd.

May I reccomend a game? Because A House of many Doors is VERY underrated.
I have only ever met a single other person who knew it, and that was only because they knew the creator personally.
If you know and like Fallen London, same universe as Sunless Sea/Sunless Skies, it was made by one of their writers!
It is an extremely unique world unlike any other, that is very different from place to place and still has a cohesion between all of them that makes it work.
My highest reccomendation, my favourite game of all time.
