A Guide to Killing Authors (for non-nerds)

The Death of the Author by Roland Barthes is a thing many teachers gloss over in class, but it's kind of useful when talking about movies and stuff. I figured I'd summarize it in a way that was easier to digest than a lot of the more academic people do. Kingdom Hearts 3 Is Worse Than You Think…
Просмотров 73 тыс.2 года назад
With Kingdom Hearts 4 being announced, I couldn't help but be inspired to rant about Kingdom Hearts 3. The positivity confused me, and looking through other videos, I noticed that they were all focused heavily on story. I think this overshadows some of the other issues the game has, so here's my take on the game. Socials: Streaming: www.youtube.com/@consumejompo Twitter: FeedJompo I...
Nice video. I can rest knowing that kh3 is like a filler because i coudnt undertand how bad could it has become, not buying kh4!
You know what can we make a trend of if they mess up a game instead of making another one just try again with a new team. Let’s not pass go let’s try again and do it right.
I believe kh 1&2 magic was because of the team, not because of Nomura. Tbh I feel like people worships Nomura and completely overestimate his abilities. Personally, I think he's not that good at directing, just look at his projects like ff versus 13 and KH 3 it took forever to release. I also think he's a sh*tty writer. KH writing felt like some teenager wrote it, imagine if Nomura doing it without a team.
You either die a kingdom hearts fan or you live long enough to finally move on from this franchise
Starsector not mentioned. I sleep.
Just finished the video... Why do I like KH3? I liked the character interactions, especially SDG. They do feel like tight knit friends in this game. Also the gameplay. Critical mode is actually pretty hard and turned this game into one of my favourites because the difficulty made the game much more memorable as the game forces you to use certain tools to deal with certain problems. I just wish this same attention was given to Proud mode because that ad Standard feel the same, and by playing these modes you miss all these meaningful interactions that change how you play, which is such a shame. The storys pretty ok, there were stuff I disliked (LIKE WTF KAIRI DO SOMETHING) but I love how they made the Disney world relevant to the plot. Though i will admit that some of the encounters could be set in different worlds and not much will change except maybe some symbolism between the member and the plot of the world. Also Fuck attractions.
God the attractions are ASS i always turn them off whenever I replay KH3. It ruins the flow so bad cuz they appear way too often. The combats fun but this is legit what I hate the most about the combat Also your editing is really funny lmao.
this was the most disapointing game ever. it was "Beginning! Still beginning, still beginning? ENDING ENDING ENDING!! ENDING!!!" Buy the DLC for a better ending!
Man this was the most pathetic childish rant ever hahaha. You are a clown bud
At least construct a substantial argument lol
Why haven’t you posted since this video?
This guy sounds like the narrator from tales foundry
You told us not to give up? then where are you ? your video freaking worked ! comeback
You people talk nothing but stupid shit, i was expecting a solid reason why you think KH3 is worse then you remember but instead your bitching about small details that impact nothing on the overall experience, it does mechanics and combat better then KH1 and 2 and does level design and movement better as well, sora in KH3 has the most wide range movement then any other kingdom hearts game y’all are stupid as fuck
Am I the only one so pissed we only fought one Disney boss? Every Villain of the world just became a heartless or they were fuckin useless lmao
Sheepo! It was so good
it's annoying that none of the frame counts for the gravity section counted landing lag, since (based on my experience with the games) that's where 3 tends to be a lot faster than 1 and 2. I don't have any numbers to back this claim up, so I won't state it as fact, but it would've been nice to see it addressed because the transition from landing to actually playing has just as much of an effect on game feel as the time it takes to land. also, in the frame counts for 3, you didn't use the max jump height and instead used the move that knocks enemies in the air (the name of which escapes me), which as far as i remember has a lower max jump height than sora's maximum with high jump, which reduces the frames it would take for sora to land. i might be wrong on this too, again I do not have numbers. I can't say I actively LIKE Kingdom Hearts 3, but I also think a lot of the reasons people DO are the same reasons that I simultaneously can't bring myself to actively DISLIKE KH3 either. I like Sora, Riku, Kairi, Aqua, Terra, all these characters and I enjoy watching them interact with each other. I find the story of 3 deeply unsatisfying, but generally speaking outside of the culmination of Sora's accelerating himbofication everyone I like is here and doing the things I like to see them do. Additionally, while I think the combat system has flaws and if you go in looking for the same depth 1 & 2 had you will be disappointed, which is a tragedy, I also don't think it's as bad as you say either. It's floaty as hell and you do take a long time to land, but you are also at your least inhibited compared to the other games. You can block, dodge, and use items in midair now, which were not things you could generally do before (barring air dodges which had been around for a while but were not in 1 or 2). Additionally, things you could do in midair before are enhanced, like magic. In 1 and 2 you could cast 1 spell before you had to land, limiting the use of magic in air combat. In 3, you can blast a full spell combo, or weave magic into you air combos without immediately finishing it. Additionally 3 added airstepping, which can be used to quickly ground yourself or fly towards enemies that you've knocked away. A perfect solution it is not, but it IS a viable option. Kingdom Hearts 3 also massively overhauled the gummi sections, and while I don't think they're as fun as 2's and the long stretches of uninterrupted flight can get boring if you want to avoid encounters and just get on with the story, but I really like how the gummi sections finally feel like they tie back into the normal gameplay at all, since you can find keyblade upgrade materials out there. Keyblade upgrades are another thing I like about 3, being an expansion on Synthesis from 1 & 2. They fix a consistent problem that's been around since 2, where most keyblades can be safely replaced once you get the one with a higher number. Some keyblades have abilities that are worth taking the lower number over, but most are just duplicates from level up abilities so they're kind of moot and it still doesn't make it a decision. Instead, 3 allows you to decide which keyblade has the most useful abilities and form, not which one has the higher number, which I find to be a more engaging choice. Additionally, you can have multiple keyblades equipped, allowing not only access to multiples forms in combat in general, but also the ability to store a form for later use via switching to a keyblade without an active form. I am not going to pretend KH3 is without flaws, and Re:Mind did not fix all of them, not even close, but there are good things too, and if KH4 manages to innovate on and improve the gameplay of KH3 to a decent extent, I think KH4 has the potential to rival KH2 for me. I won't get my hopes too high until I've played the game, but I'd like to believe that KH4 has potential. It would also feel cynical of me to give up on one of my favorite franchises after a mid game that I still enjoyed when I stuck through fucking Dream Drop, travesty that game was. also the edits of the characters being licked were kinda weird. the first one was a little funny but then it kept happening. whole ending sequence, too, though the joke with zeus was funny so i'll allow that one
Yeah, all good points. There are a good number of holes in this video I wish I covered at the time, but it's a bit too late for all that now. I will not stop with the weird edits, however. I'm legally obligated to make them.
fair enough, i guess. solid video, otherwise, cheers
The audio at 11:10 made me completely quit watching your video. Gross and disgusting literal anger inducing crap
junpei
What does that mean
Thanks for censoring Fr*nch
I dont know if this statement will make sense to most people but, I feel like if KH3 was released on the PS2 it would've been WAAY better than the KH3 we got on PS4
I know im late and nobody will probably see this but lemme throw my hat into the ring. To understand why i liked 3 i feel like i have to understand the parts i didn't like about 1 and 2. Kh1 felt super clunky in a way kinda simular to how you thought about kh3. Instead of the floatiness being the issue it Instead was the lack of it that made me not enjoy a lot of kh1s combat. Kh1 felt slow and like nothing was smooth with spells being canceled by touching the ground and the general landing lag on jump. I liked how in kh3 i could reasonably string together a variety of different attacks ranging from spells into melees without dropping the combo or feeling like it wasn't smooth. Overall i do think kh2 is the best game jn the series and part of that is i dont think it has either of the flaws i mentioned. Its got the smooth feeling combat without being overly handholdy like how kh 3 is and it makes kh2 feel a lot more rewarding. Overall i like the entire series with my order being the best is kh2, then kh3, then kh1 but dont get me wrong all 3 games are in my top 20 of all time. Kh2 is a masterpiece, kh3 was similarly good with a few flaws, kh1 had a few more flaws imo.

Hello!! This is Horpan, the developer of Ninnin. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your thoughtful game review. Thanks to your email report of the game's bugs, we were able to address the shortcomings of Ninnin, and now it has become an even better game. I look forward to more fun game reviews from you, and I will continue to support your RUclips channel~!!!😀😀
I bought the game just because it looks like fun!
Your game's great, thanks for looking into the window resolutions and further game options!
THREE EXCLAMATION POINTS?!
So like. I get what you're coming from with gravity and the weight of sora, but you can just airstep in the middle of your finish to dash to another enemy and start comboing again. It, at least to me, is kind of a non-issue? Like the game WANTS you in the air. Air combos are life in this game. Idk just seems a little strange of a complaint to me. I litterally turned off the attraction flows using the encouraged Pro codes feature, allowing me to gain pro points for actively having them turned off, (currently replaying the game on critical) Running is running Every world in the KH games suck to me, but I personally just don't care. I play to hit heartless/nobodies/unversed with big key. Uh. . . I play game to hit heartless/nobodies/unversed with big key. Zipping around with airstep and then comboing again certain enemy to death just to turn around, hit a bunch with a shot lock, airstep again, more combos, panic link when low on health. Idk games been really fun when I'm trying to look cool without dying in like 2 hits. I will agree that I miss reaction commands, they were simply better and more engaging with the enemy. I guess it doesn't take much for me to have fun with just using all the shit I like and actually being encouraged to turn off the stuff I don't. The story. The story. The story... it's a messy story that's been constantly retconned and changed as it was clearly written on the fly with nomura even stating that he's had to watch RUclips videos just to remember parts of it. All I want out of Kingdom Hearts 3 is Neku as a party member again. I'm a twewy Zeptogram, can I say? I wrote this comment out as I was watching this video and I wouldn't even consider myself a fan of kh3, this is legit the first replay I've done for the game and it's all stuff I've noticed while playing. I'm simple man. I wack enemy with key and I'm happy.
obsessed with your speech configuration
I'm very late but the reason why I love 3 is because of the possibilities. I dont like that spamming A can just wreck enemies but i can decide not to do that to make it harder. I tried to just use magic in a playthrough and it significantly changed the game in my opinion. I also have never beaten yozora so it seems unfinished and i need to keep going back 😅
In Narutos defense, it's easier to show actual strategies that exist, and were used, then to make up new ones around supernatural beings. Kingdom has actual history to take inspiration from.
1:32 my stupid ass actually looked it up to see if it was real.
0:07 game?
I'd even say that the visual style of KH3 is kinda.. ugly? Everything's got a bloom to it - everything's glowy and bright, which makes a lot of the attack animations hard to appreciate (let alone stand out/catch your attention). I loved the playdough fidelity of older titles because it allowed for movesets to stand out and look cool; every keyblade trail, hit effect, and swing animation were given colors to stand out and look cool to the eyes. Now, my eyes can't really appreciate that much because they're lookin' all over the screen for how pretty everything's tryna be, in KH3. I get that tech is advancing, and so is time, yadda yadda; but I think older titles' graphical style just fits far better for the kind of setting/atmosphere Kingdom Hearts had going.
the two-bullet joke was really funny, subscribed.
I always really struggled with liking KH3. I think for many of us, it was a game that was SUPPOSE to be a return to everything that was fun about the numbered titled games like KH1 & KH2. Instead, it carried the weight of BBS & DDD just with prettier graphics and a "let's wrap this up" type of conclusion thrown together. I always knew KH2 was my favorite game of all time, but I always HOPED that when KH3 came out, it would overtake that spot. I should've known that after the floatier combat of the handheld titles, as well as the "stupidity" trait that was added to sora in DDD, it would just be a continuation of that. The team made an attempt at rectifying this "floaty gameplay" by adding some additional abilities that existed in previous titles, but the entirety of KH3 was designed with floating in mind. A large majority of enemies are flying and get knocked back so far. Sora's movement has to be linear in order to keep up with them. I always hate saying "Just make it more like KH2", but in all honesty, it's true. KH2, in terms of combat, is still unmatched in the entire series. I genuinely think if they made the enemy juggle closer to sora, with the faster hitting combos and more gravity-induced finishers and added more on top, it would've been far less hated on. I have plenty more to say about KH3, from the phoned in line delivery, to the fact that the frozen Disney world was just the movie with Sora & the gang awkwardly in the background. Nevertheless, I'll continue to get my hopes up for KH4, as much like a toxic relationship, I'll keep hoping it'll somehow give me what I'm looking for.
The daily dose reference caught me off guard. Well done.
I'd say Bloons TD6 can be a pretty complex mobile game (it is also on pc though). Not so much the gameplay itself but the strategy and planning involved.
I would genuinely rather die than upgrade my PC so indie games are kinda my bread and butter happy to see more i might not have heard of
When you described your struggle with one of the bosses I remembered a game "Ronin" that has a terrible last level on a new game plus (it has increased difficulty) The game overall is good, but that one last level is awful
