St Louis has some of the most beautiful architecture in the nation, hurts to see so much getting trashed. Nearly all of North St Louis hood now. starting to move into South St Louis last 10-15 years. But there are still some incredible hoods in the city.
The north side is sooo sad. There used to be such beautiful old houses there. This video doesn’t show the worst of it. Guess you were lucky it was a rainy day and so many people weren’t out on the streets.
IN THE LATE 50S ME AND A COUPLE OF BUDDY'S USED TO SIT NEAR THE CORNER OF BLAIR AND NORTH MARKET AND PLAY OUR GUITARS... THE BOARDED BUILDING ON THE CORNER
Thanks for all of these gems, CharlieBo313. To date this video of North StL might be one of the worst areas along with parts of DET I’ve seen of yours. Of course the NE concentration/narrow streets is different than in StL, DET, CHI, CLE, CINCY midwest but this looks real bad. Looks all bombed out...wow.
Watching this brings tears to my eyes. I lived on the North Side of St. Louis (I lived out in the county with my momma but most of my father's family lived in the hood and a few of my momma's friends) almost all my life until I moved to Jersey. It was like I was driving down the street again in STL while I was watching this
its the formal industrial powerhouses of America that are the worst looking/poorest big cities now, the south was poor before and now getting richer/growing, while the midwestern/eastern rustbelt cities are for the most part losing population and tax bases to their suburbs hence why they look like this
All cities have bad areas... I've lived here all of my 28 years and I've never been shot at, stabbed, or arrested. I just feel you need to be in the correct neighborhood wherever you live

The gray, gloomy, rainy day adds to melancholic feel of what is being seen...
